blue hope you slept well and aren't too shattered!

collie I don't know much about expressing but how often are you tryin? I 5yink the more you do, the more your body increases supply. If you have to mix with ff don't be too harsh on yourself!

ellie really feel for you with 5 dc, hope dp gets all clear and comes home soon, can anyone come and help after appendix op? Sounds like you could do with some support? hugs

auntie sorry about dh- is there anyone you can call to explain how much dh valued it or would that be inappropriate?

Oh my does ds like his dummy! So amazing not to have him scream all night with no way to sooth! Even dh (anti dummy man) was there putting it back in when it fell out! I don't know if it will last but for now is great!

GrouchyKiwi · 14/08/2014 04:47

ellie thinking of you.

Sorry about your DP auntie. People can be so self-centred.

Baby Kiwi is waking up every half hour or so to feed. I've had maybe 2 hours of sleep so far. DH goes back to work today of course. Am shattered and just want some sleep.

ismarah · 14/08/2014 06:18

Collie if you do decide to top up with formula, google 'fearless formula feeder'. It's a blog about and for FF and I found it really helpful. We're using Aptimel 1, both powde and liquid bottles. The bottles we use overnight as they keep better and also if out and about. MAM bottles are apparently very good and selfsterilise in the microwave, although we use Dr Browns. Bean needs a top up of cooled boiled water (about 10-20ml a day) as it helps her digest more happily, similar to feeding infacol etc.

Ellie if your DH needs the appendix out and they do it via keyhole it isn't a very long recovery. Provided he's home soon to help with DS4 you'll be OK, I think, to concentrate on your son and his needs. Can someone run your DH a charger for his phone? Seems silly to worry you over such a thng when it's an easy fix..

Auntie I wonder if it was someone's ego getting in the way or if they thought your DP would appreciate the hand off? They might have thought with his mum and a new baby he might want to be free of added responsibility? Shit way to go about it though. But maybe it's fixable?

I'm having a medicallly involved week. Bone density scan yesterday, 6w checkups today and dentist tomorrow. Woot.

ZingOfSeven · 14/08/2014 09:31

Auntie

sorry about your DH being dismissed liked that. what a shit thing to do anyway, but to someone who has just lost his mum and just had a baby - very nasty.

I'm glad you went to osteopath and I'm glad they found root of problems and that there's a solution.
not used the pillow you mentioned but I think I read about it here. maybe worth it to search MN, see what threads come up?

ellie

I'm sending you a PM.

everyone else - I hope you are coping ok.
try and take things easy is my advice. do things, see people but remember your body needs at least 9 months to recover from giving birth,so for future health and strength (mental and physical) it's best if you don't overdo things now.
It's that good old "walk before you run" philosophy. if you do too much now I guarantee that in a few weeks or months time you will feel like a truck hit you.
I know that from experience.
I hope that makes sense and that it is useful advice. Smile

AuntieMaggie · 14/08/2014 10:31

Thank you ladies. I tell you the politics involved in these social groups is worse than in work! I would love to slap say something but I don't think DP would thank me. It's more the fact that they've just done it rather than offer. The way they've done it means that there's no way dp can do it now and everyone else on the committee was as shocked as dp. I think their nose has been put out of joint as they've done this thing previously but said they didn't want to anymore so dp took over and got lots of good feedback about the way he did it whilst this person criticised everything. Oh and this thong he was doing? It doesn't really need to be started for another 6 months so the fact that they've almost finished it...

I remembered last night the osteopath said to dip a peppermint tea bag into the water ds is supposed to be drinking as he won't drink it and it seems he likes it!

I managed to express about 3 oz last night which ds guzzler in no time! Not sure I'm gushing like the description of let down suggests though!

On the child benefit form where it asks for date you've been employed in the UK since do I put an estimated date that I started work when I was 16?

MrsB2013 · 14/08/2014 16:47

Hey everyone I found you all!

Congratulations everyone, hope you are all ok :) Time goes so fast, my ds is 7 weeks already! Anyone got any tips on dealing with lack of sleep? I feel like a zombie most of the time lol

If anyone wants to join us on Facebook send a pm with your email address to me or FOX82

Howly · 14/08/2014 18:39

Struggling today, good news is DD has put in weight but bad news is she is feeding constantly, I have mastitis and she has only slept for 1 hours since 7am this morning! DH usual very patient is stressing out and I'm close to tears all the time! She will fall asleep in my arms using the boob as a comfort which is causing me pain and as soon as I put her in her crib she dozes for 10 minutes then is awake again! Dunno what to do! DH wants to try her in some formula see if at will go down but this won't help my mastitis! Not happy in our household!

icklekid · 14/08/2014 18:59

Oh dear mrsb I think 5 weeks on am adjusting to broken sleep but probably helps I slept awfully all pregnancy. Be easy on yourself in day by napping or at least resting- makes a big difference

auntie I think I put date of current job which I've done since graduating- not sure if that is right or not as also worked since 16...whoops!

zing so true far too easy to do too much and suffer consequences- I'm sure ds was so unsettled this afternoon from doing too much. Need to learn and limit to 1 thing per day!

elliejjtiny · 14/08/2014 22:54

DH is home thank goodness. It's gallstones though so he has to have his gallbladder out in a few weeks.

Zing that's so true about the nine months to recover thing. I think recovery time is so underestimated these days by us and other people. I know I always feel like I should be firing on all cylinders once I'm discharged by the midwife and completely back to normal by the 6 week check.

NancyinCali · 14/08/2014 23:40

Glad DH is home ellie. Hope he's not in too much pain and when he has the surgery he has a quick recovery.

Hugs howly. That sounds so hard. I don't have any useful advice expect have you read the info about mastitis on kellymom.com? Might be something there that could help.

DD2 has put on 9oz in 6 days and is now 8lb15 at 13 days (5oz above birth weight). Very pleased. We also had our first solo outing and met friends for frozen yogurt and shopping. I'm not ready to go out with the toddler and baby on my own yet though Grin (dd1 is in nursery today).

icklekid · 15/08/2014 00:12

Good work on frozen yoghurt nancy mmm so yummy! And great weight gain!

ellie hope dh is fully recovered soon

Ds was screaming mid feed in cafe this afternoon, was horrible am sure everyone else thought I was rubbish at breastfeeding, walked home (dummy in to calm/limit screaming) got home fed for 5 mins then more screaming took an hour for dh to come home calm him for him to finally calm down enough to have a proper feed and sleep!

Plateofcrumbs · 15/08/2014 00:54

Feeling your pain howly - We're now majority BFing (managed to get away with only one FF today, least ever) but he's now not gaining weight well and never seems to be satisfied. Constantly tempting to give more formula but know we will never crack BFing if we don't persevere. Have got mastitis as well - Dr has given me antibiotics and am taking loads of ibuprofen which helps.

howly and plate and anyone else suffering with mastitis- REST! As much as possible, basically if you can sit instead of standing, or better lie down. drink LOTS and take ibuprofen. Keep on feeding your little one as this is the best way to clear it though I know it's v v painful! Try different feeding positions to help clear different bits of your breast. I had it three times with DS so I feel your pain- it can take 3-5 days to clear but rest is crucial! Not easy but a must. Also check out kellymom website for more tips

Howly · 15/08/2014 06:39

I'm taking anti biotics, ibuprofen and paracetamol! Never been so dosed up! Trying to rest as much as I can and going to try and different position for each feed off that breast today! Been waking up with night sweats too which is horrible!

DD finally went down at 7pm and has had a good night, just feeding again now and hopefully she will go back off for another hour or 2.... (Or 4!!)

ellie glad it's not an emergency procedure for DH and now you can plan a bit more but gallstones!!! Ouch!!!

nancy I need DD to put some weight on like that this weekend, she's being weighed again on Monday and hopefully discharged from the midwife!

And yay got chocolate hobnobs... I've been told I need to eat more so it's porridge for brekkie and extra biscuits a all round!!

BlueC2 · 15/08/2014 07:27

Ugh howly I'd forgotten about the sweats with mastitis :( what always shocked me was how quickly the whole thing would start- I'd go from feeling fine to absolutely horrific in just an hour or so! Guess that's why it's also called milk fever! Now at any hint of a symptom I'm downing glasses of water and ibuprofen! Can't face getting it this time when I've got a toddler to deal with as well- though he could be my secret super milk guzzling weapon to clear any blocked ducts :)

Just managed to feed little DD- she's so so congested with this cold I hate listening to her trying to breathe through all the snot (sorry TMI). She's slept v well considering but been awake since 5am and DS woken at least 4 times overnight as teething or feeling cold. DH wasted as doesn't cope with broken sleep. I'm exhausted! Got HV coming to do my maternal mood assessment today too which could be fun!

icklekid · 15/08/2014 08:13

Ohh feel for all you ladies on antibiotics remember it gets passed onto baby if bf- ds pooed constantly when I was!

Random question- at a petrol station do you take ds/dd out when going to pay? (If can't pay at pump) does it make a difference if they are asleep?

Plateofcrumbs · 15/08/2014 08:51

I think I'll join the chocolate hobnob party - I'm struggling to eat enough too.

Well after being smug about virtually formula-free day yesterday, ended up having to give him a top-up to settle him last night. Bonus though that he slept for 4.5hrs solid, and wasn't frantically hungry when he woke. Feel rested for once!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 15/08/2014 08:55

By a spooky coincidence I bought chocolate hobnobs yesterday :) must have been my subconscious asking for oats!

Glad you got some rest Plate. Sorry about the mastitis Howly and the cold Blue!

DS is sleeping now after a very restless night but I want to try to go out to a baby friendly film showing at 10... Hmmm...

Plateofcrumbs · 15/08/2014 09:12

Report back if you make it to the cinema its - our local cinema does these and wondering whether it's worth the effort (vs sofa + Netflix).

Going to try to go shopping today - although DS seems to be rejecting pram now as well as every other non-mummy resting place. As much as people keep saying you can't spoil a baby, I can't help but feel that by acquiescing to his limpet tendencies we've created this situation ourselves.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 15/08/2014 09:39

We're both dressed and now on a feed so hopefully we'll be out the door by 10... If not, suspect sofa and Netflix will be a much easier (possibly superior) substitute :)

Moresnow I have horrible eczema too, so I can sympathise - if it's infected I'd go and see your gp as when I've had this I've needed antibiotics to clear it. It also made me feel pretty ill, so might explain why you're not feeling well. I also didn't manage to get ds to latch properly until he was around 4 weeks old, so I was glad I'd kept my supply up by expressing. I found that nipple shields have helped loads - maybe that's worth a try?

Sorry to hear of those with mastitis - I hope you're all feeling better soon.

icklekid · 15/08/2014 14:07

moresnow the thought of feeding in that position in a cafe did make me smile!

Ds sleeping in a sling at the moment and am enjoying being able to do things whilst he sleeps.

its enjoy the cinema- our cinema does it but for but random arty films. Currently catching up on bake off without ds screaming!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 15/08/2014 15:55

We made it - film wasn't great but it was v relaxing as he slept for most of it! Although then had a massive poo 10 minutes before the end of the film, so I have no idea what happened!
