Seriously Pidj, we are only trying to help.

PurplePidjin · 14/06/2014 21:15

I started using metanium, which is safe for cloth, when he was teething and getting a bit red. Didn't even open the tube I bought when pregnant till he was about 11 months old! Creams are fine with cloth as long as you use a liner - the cream clogs the fibres of the nappies, but I put fleece in between him and the actual absorbent part. I started the sudocrem when this patch wasn't healing, didn't really bother during the day before then as was changing every 3 hours anyway. Have been trying everything as you can imagine!

My sposie-using friends seem to be a mix. Some use shitloads at every change, some never bother. I use a very thin layer that you can see the skin through when there's a problem like now, and only on that particular area.

Anyhow, current strategy is working and it's only 3 days till GP check up. We've had one small accident - a dribble he didn't even notice - in 3 days so I'm counting it as a success for now. Will see what the Dr says on Tuesday, fingers crossed. From what I've read elsewhere 3ish year olds tend to get the hang of it in 3-7 days, younger dc take a bit longer. And that's at the child's instigation, I'm pretty much ignoring anything about making the child train to the parents' schedule. If I say "do you need the toilet?" and he says No then he doesn't sit on the toilet. If I'm not sure if he's asking for that or something else, I give him two choices which he's used to now. He's quite capable of telling me when he's had enough of trying, and he gets lots of praise for it whether the visit has been productive or not. Yesterday we popped into town and therefore the park on the way home. He asked to go as we went past the public lavs. A bit ick but I took him and got him to sit on our loo as soon as we got home then scrubbed his hands even more thoroughly than usual afterwards

QQ are boys meant to wipe after weeing? I've been dabbing (it's a good indicator of whether he's done a little one I might have missed otherwise) but not entirely sure; it's not something I've ever had cause to find out before!

PetiteRaleuse · 14/06/2014 21:20

From what I can see boys think a good shake of the willy is enough Hmm :o

Dunno about small boys though.

ValiumQueen · 14/06/2014 21:25

Males shake. There is no toilet paper in a urinal, only in the cubicles. I will chose not to say how I know this as I may embarrass myself.

BigPigLittlePig · 14/06/2014 21:28

Oooh go on VQ!

ValiumQueen · 14/06/2014 21:34

Grin You can just try to guess that one Grin

PurplePidjin · 14/06/2014 21:38

Cleaning toilets, VQ? i've done that but don't recall taking much notice of the location of paper, 'twas a fair few years back now! Hmm, think I'll keep on with the loo roll till he's big enough to stand then - am planning on making him sit in the house anyway to save mess although I have the ping pong ball trick up my sleeve just in case Wink

PetiteRaleuse · 14/06/2014 21:49

Gents bogs in pubs stink [vom]

YellowWellies · 14/06/2014 22:04

I was going to say J's skin is always dry to the touch too, even his bits - I'd just assumed it needed to be to avoid thrush? We have the same tube of bepanthen since birth, we've been v lucky. I guess its a case of picking your daily chemical exposure risk of choice - nappy or creams.

We had a fab day out at Crail food festival, lobster cooked on the quayside (Jonas turned his nose up - more for us nom!), fresh picked Fife strawberries and some craft beer tasting! Then to a pal's amazing new house in the country. We were best pals on the island and it is so lovely to have her back in the same county. Jonas loved her massive garden, hammock, and having three dogs to play with. Lovely day. We're going to have a sleep over weekend in a few weeks when her chickens arrive. She has two wood burners. I have wood burner envy! I need to learn to drive so we can live out in a village too.

Pikz · 14/06/2014 22:18

L is always dry too. Every now and then when teething we have a little bepathem. Sudocream makes him sore for some reason.

Made pizza tonight and then cooked it on the new BBQ pizza stone. Sooo yum.

Zamboni · 14/06/2014 22:25

S always dry too, we use Aldi nappies. Only a v occasional smear of sudocrem, we too have had the same pot since birth. But S gets a LOT of naked time, probably several hours most days. I'm sure that helps Grin

VQ I have a vision of you peeing in one like in the scene from the Full Monty!

YellowWellies · 14/06/2014 22:27

VQ I'm hoping peeing was all you did in one!!!! Wink

BigPigLittlePig · 14/06/2014 22:31

I have never bought sudocrem - we got 3 or 4 small freebie pots, have barely made dents in any of them. Apart from the literal dent in one from when dsd stuffed her finger in as far as she could get it!

Night quiche.

itsnotyouitsMeals · 14/06/2014 22:35

Turning up again to correct re cloth. Both DDs bums were/are wet when we change(d) them. Doesn't seem to be an issue. And we use weleda cream so not necess a choice between chemical yw. We use a liner as well, either fleece or paper which is flushable. Sorry, but I don't want people put off cloth.
DD1 potty trained in 5 days at 2.5. We'll see about DD2. Sure it'll be harder due to karma!

Hope everyone ok.

PurplePidjin · 14/06/2014 22:36

r was even damp in the nb pampers i had for the first few days Shock but then i see others post on fb about their nappy combinations and think that wouldn't last 5 minutes on him. i'm also still on the sample sudocrem but have supplemented with a big pot as it does wonders for my dry skin when that flares up.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 14/06/2014 22:57

vq I figure you've peed in one or had sex near one!!

itsnotyouitsMeals · 14/06/2014 23:21

this vq?

izzybizzybuzzybees · 14/06/2014 23:32

OMG! meals!

PetiteRaleuse · 14/06/2014 23:40

:o

itsnotyouitsMeals · 15/06/2014 00:07

Grin DH is always nagging me to learn how to do this when I complain about women's loos.

GTbaby · 15/06/2014 02:09

I must admit h is a lil wet with pampers. A deff has damp areas. And I use sudocream if they are looking a little red.
H has had burn/ulcer like sores twice now. A has had it one, but a very tiny patch.
I try to give them a min or two of nappy free time a day. But often it's as long as it taken me to put nappy in a bag then bin.

Glad the fresh air is helping PP.

Ok to tiered to continue posting.

ValiumQueen · 15/06/2014 07:28

Excellent Meals Grin I have a she wee which makes it all a lot easier.

fruitpastilles · 15/06/2014 08:08

Sounds like a lovely day yesterday yw

Well, last nights trial of no dummy was a success. S stirred a few times but didn't actually wake though so maybe it wouldn't have gone so well if she had woken up, who knows. Anyway, hopefully today's nap and tonight will go just as well and I can throw them away.

Up for the day at 5:15 hoping for an early nap so I can have one too Grin

Zamboni · 15/06/2014 08:38

So for breakfast, which is more or less a constant meal between waking and 9am, has so far consisted of:
Whole Weetabix
Handful Cheerios
Banana ("nar-ner")
2 sausages
Beans
Bowl of porridge
2 cups of Oatly.

He's now eyeing up my bagel and scrambled egg.

He's going to cost me a fortune as a teenager isnt he?

PetiteRaleuse · 15/06/2014 08:42

I think so zamboni :o
