What's the deal with threads being closed? Is there a post limit?

I am soooooo tired today. Archie has been really unsettled the last few nights from about 4am onwards. Sometimes he's hungry, sometimes he wants to play, sometimes he wants his dummy. The last two nights he's ended up in with us as it's easier to replug the dummy, pat etc.
YAWN.

Oh, enormouse, I can only imagine the flood of emotions you must have felt after the assessment. Don't be ashamed of having a wee cry - it sounds like you've got a lot on your plate just now. I find it hard enough with just one child, let alone a baby, toddler, studying and exams....
Your DS1 sounds like the DS of a friend - he was a listener and a doer, and just got on with things. He didn't speak for a long time, and when he did, he came out with a perfect sentence! All children are different and don't all follow the norm.
Good luck with your exams, BTW.

Henry appears to have joined the secret Facebook group for non-sleepers... He started another one months ago too, I think, for Babies who sabotage attempts to leave the house. I'm finding it increasingly difficult to get out and about, let alone to go anywhere on time.

Spged · 09/05/2014 23:17

C is in that group too Fizzy, the one that stops me getting anywhere on time (an either 2 hours early or very late) and also the group that stops their parents having any kind of intimacy or time alone... Must make more of an effort on hols next week.

Felt terrible today as took her to the dr as our once a week dirty nappy has changed to once every 1-2 hours for the last few days. He had a prod around her tummy which she tolerated but then stuck his finger.... I can't even write it! Anyway, she did not appreciate it at all. He doesn't think there's anything wrong though, just her system developing and we have to go back in 10 days if things haven't improved.

Good luck with exams Enormous and well done for managing any studying at all! I haven't even picked up a novel since Christmas

FelixFelix · 09/05/2014 23:23

Pidgy my sex drive was near enough non-existent on the pill but I just put it down to self confidence issues and the whole anxiety thing. From about aged 20 until 22 my sex drive was awful and I didn't realise how abnormal it was for someone my age at the time (I'm 23 now). My poor DH Grin It's a miracle I even got pregnant haha. It's amazing how much of a different person I am without hormonal contraception!

Enormouse you've got a lot going on so you're allowed a little cry! I agree with fizzy, I know a child who was exactly the same. No developmental problems, they were just busy doing other things and didn't seem to 'need' to speak, then when they did it was perfect.

Spoke to the GP this morning and told her about the issues I'm having with the implant. She spoke to the other GP who fits them and called me back. They said they will never usually remove the implant after such a short amount of time, but usually people want it removed for a different reason (usually excessive bleeding) so they recommend leaving it in a few more weeks. But they said due to my reasons, she wants to fit me with an IUD coil thing on Friday then remove the implant straight away. I'm relieved! Sort of wish I hadn't chickened out in the first place with getting the coil but never mind eh!

Pidgy · 10/05/2014 00:21

Thanks enormouse. I think it's her cold and the washing powder. Do you use hydrocortisone to get it undue control? If so, what %. They gave her 2.5% but I'm not sure if it's too strong for a baby's face.
I hope she grows out of it as it looks v itchy and painful. I remember having it whenever I sat on grass when I was young, but I've now grown out of it. Although i had some on my arm once when I was mega stressed at work.

felix don't go for the more a coil as that has hormones too. I also read it can increase chances of ovarian cysts. A subject close to my heart.
Don't beat yourself up about those few years. You are still sooo youngm I'm very jealous!. You have figured out the cause pretty fast. If you'd been saying this in another 10 years time it would be a different story.

Pidgy · 10/05/2014 00:21

*Mirena NOT 'more'.

FelixFelix · 10/05/2014 09:21

Thanks Pidgy. It's the IUD thing not the hormonal one. Ive probably got the name of it wrong Shock I'm going to chat to the doctor about it on Friday anyway and see what she says.

enormouse · 10/05/2014 10:52

pidgy I use eumovate for flare ups along with dermol for moisturizing and oilatum for baths on DS1. I use aveeno for myself with eumovate on flare ups. I used to use hydrocortisone on my skin when younger for a brief period and haven't used it since. I went to a dermatologist a while back for DS1 and she advised using the steroid creams preventatively a few days a week to keep the ezcema at bay following a flare up - I.e. 3 times a week and as the skin improves reduce it to once a week. DS1 would only need the eumovate once a week now.

felix it's great you know what's right for you and won't be fobbed off.

Thanks guys, you almost made me cry with your kind words. Had a good(ish) nights sleep and everything feels a bit more in perspective. I just need to focus on DS1's many many positive traits and not on his lack of speech. I'm sure it'll come in time, once DS decides he's ready.

AMillionNameChangesLater · 10/05/2014 19:51

enormouse my little brother didn't talk until he was 4, he just didn't need to. He was very independent and happy to play on his own, once he started having an interested outside of himself (iyswim) he chatted away.

I went to ndn's pampered chef party last night. I bought along a friend of mine and had a blast. I got bladdered on gin and tonic (ndn makes a mean G&T!) and came home at 11.30. The boys were staying at PIL's so it didn't matter I had loads to drink.

Until I got home. Then DH tells me that mil bought back Henry as he wouldn't settle almost three hours earlier and he didn't want to tell me because he knew it would ruin my night out. Which is lovely, but made me feel bad I was drinking loads and he was at home, which was dumb. I had to also explain that if DH had told me I wouldn't have drank as much as I wouldn't be having a lie in as he had to work. As it turns out, I still don't get hangovers so all worked out. I bought a pizza stone (which is what I had already scouted) and booked a PC party for 3 July! I don't suppose anyone wants to make the journey to Bolton for it? Wine will be there :) Next door said she would come and so did a couple of her friends I clicked with, which is lovely.

I've just had the nicest tea, jacket potato, bbq chicken, and salad. It was flipping delicious. I seem to have a thing for salads at the minute, which is good

pumpkinsweetie · 11/05/2014 10:42

Baby pumpkin has eczema too, had been using E45 & aqueous cream but to no avail. Her face, side of cheeks are flaring up pretty bad, so bad she scratched it raw. So went to docs and he prescribed a steroid cream and it has worked almost instantlySmile

Hope you are getting the support you need million must be so tough for you right now. Well done for realising you may have pnd, wished I had admitted it with my dd2 many years ago x

Hello everyone,

I have been reading but not writing as not had much time to myself and was trying to make the flat sort of presentable for viewings. Owner has raised the rent 100 euros so I hope we can find someone before we leave as we gave less than the required notice...oops.

I love having a tidy flat though, it is great!

Here is the essay...

Cloth nappies have also arrived. Need to wash them: I have bright bots white terries, some bumbles and some LL one size pockets plus boosters and bamboo wipes. Decided to stick to cotton for nappies as washing powder in egypt is not to be trusted. Only trouble is, I can't find non bio here in France and soap flakes seem to be out too because they contain glycerin. Who knew this stuff was so tough? I am probably just going to wash the terries anyway because there is no elastic and I hope that one wash won't make a difference. I won't be tumble drying either which may help. Any ideas? Going to the organic supermarket to look for non bio tomorrow but the nappies look so good I don't want to wait! aaargh!

The bumbles look really good and solid, and I like the integrated fleece liner and the poppers for attaching the booster. Seems like it will be a great night time nappy if I can't be bothered folding the terries. I wish I had bought more of the LL pockets and maybe not gone for the terries but even LL pockets are four times as expensive as a terry nappy and I am not sure how they will hold up over time if I use crap washing powder. They look much more solid than I thought they would and the elastic seems fine even though it hasn't got a double gusset.

N is between sizes in the motherease wraps but I don't have much to spend so I just got the M/L and L ones and am hoping for the best. He is now 7kgs and the M/L say from 9kgs, but N is quite short and squat and the popolini L were fine round the legs and just a bit loose round the tummy on a disposable nappy so am hoping for the best. If not, LL pockets it is!

Baby carriers I have also tried the ergo ventus again. More confortable now than the baby bjorn original and N isn't completely swamped but he still drops down in it after a few minutes so I think without insert or a towel the baby should be 65cm plus. He is 62cm now and just about ok without anything to raise him up. I think the 5.8kg lower limit is a bit low and 7 to 7.5kg more reasonable if your baby isn't very tall.

The baby bjorn is becoming a bit more uncomfortable but I can still do a day trip ok so long as N isn't forward facing which I tried for the first and probably last time on Sunday. He liked it, I felt like I was being pulled over and as soon as he started getting a bit tired he was overstimulated and freaked. Slept as soon as he was switched round. Despite this, I do think I was too critical of the baby bjorn when N was small (turns out very small babies are just quite hard to carry!) and having tried the ergo see how much easier the Baby bjorn is for quick trips. A stretchy wrap probably would have been best but N would have grown out of it before he was ready for the ergo, so all in all if bought second hand (they are dirt cheap) a baby bjorn original is great. Would be careful though if you have back problems or pelvic floor issues, it does pull you forward. I am taking the baby bjorn with us on the plane trip because it is so much easier to take on and off and I don't want any extra stress during the move!

Eczema I have eczema and have a masive flare up at the moment which I am not taking seriously enough. Oats in the bath are amazing, really try it. With regards to laundry detergent, I have always found that the detergent I use matters a lot less than making sure clothes are really well rinsed in the machine. Modern machines tend not to rinse as well in order to save on water so doing an extra rinse cycle is really important, and if you can still feel the detergent on the clothes when you take them out the machine use less detergent too.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 11/05/2014 16:39

spged I use cloth, but bumgenius and Little Lamb OSFA. Sadly, Alex cries for every wet nappy (awaiting results of UTI test), so can't say we ever get soaked ones, she does a teaspoonful and screams the place down!

We are now doing put down awake and ignore whinging (not crying) until asleep, courtesy of my DM, who showed me/talked me through it. It's a revelation, after months of insane bouncing/rocking/singing. She does sometimes cry properly, for food or a change, which I don't ignore, but mostly she's stopped the whinging by the time I get downstairs!

Pidgy · 11/05/2014 18:01

Thanks for the extra rinse tip altered. Will try that too.
Also I'm on antibiotics which she must get through the milk so that might be responsible. I'm stopping taking them now so should hopefully see an improvement if that was causing it to worsen. Poor mite has it in every crease. She's so chunky that's a lot of creases!! He back looks really sore too.

We've had a nice day today. Had my brother and his wife and son up for a BBQ. Weather wasn't great but DH has a new BBQ he wanted to try!

Also just won a parasol I wanted on eBay so when it eventually is hot we can sit out at our table and not get so frazzled. We're all pretty pale in this family, especially Irish DH!!

TarkaTheOtter · 11/05/2014 19:32

Back at home today from holiday absolutely exhausted. DH was sat behind us (I think this is because bassinet positions tend to come in pairs and dd had the other seat). So in the end it wasn't that much better than when I did it on my own. This one was a night flight though and Alex slept through most of it, dd on the other hand...

Now just hoping my jet lag is in sync with the dc's because dh is back off to Ireland at 5am tomorrow.

pidgy I think dermatologists are less concerned about steroid creams than the used to be. Current advice seems to be that a short course of something stronger is better than continuous use of weaker ones., theta my experience anyway.

Right, both children miraculously asleep. Need to get on with some jobs if i am going to stay awake until 10pm.

FizzypopFireball · 11/05/2014 20:26

Humpty please can you post a demonstration video of this technique?? I've just spent an hour trying to get H to sleep! He feeds to sleep, but wakes when I put him in the cot. I then spend ages shushing and holding his flappy arms down.
Do you find it's a fine line between whinging and crying? Henry is like your DD - very very loud, and his crying is often more like yelling. I pity the neighbours!

FizzypopFireball · 11/05/2014 20:28

Welcome home, Tarka! Glad the flight wasn't too horrific!

Swannykazoo · 11/05/2014 20:29

Can you tell us more about this dark art Humpty? I don't think little puggle has ever fallen asleep without either a nipple in his mouth or being on the move (and very occasionally both!)

Pidgy · 11/05/2014 21:04

Yes, do share humpty. I've been trying to get her down now for 2 hours. She shout cries, smiles (so I can't help smile back as she's so cute), gets hiccups, etc. etc.
Just fed her again and hoping she's now out.
Maybe tonight is the night she'll sleep through!! Fx crossed.

Pidgy · 11/05/2014 21:05

puggle I have some very strange images in my head!

FelixFelix · 11/05/2014 23:04

Sorry this may be tmi but I need some advice. Getting my implant removed and coil fitted on Friday. Been advised I need to collect a swab thing for down below from the doctors tomorrow to be sent off to the hospital to check for infection before I have the coil fitted. Got to be handed in to the doctors surgery no later than 4pm on Tuesday so results are back in time for Friday. The GP said its a bit like a tampon and takes a sample to be tested. Only thing is I've just come on my period yesterday so I don't know what to do! Should I call and speak to the receptionist to explain and cancel the coil fitting? They only do them on Fridays and I'm away the Friday after next so would have to wait another 2 weeks to have one put in. Please help!

flyawayblue · 12/05/2014 07:49

humpty I also want to know the secret of your dark arts Smile A just fusses till she screams.

felix they can fit it even if you are bleeding but no idea about the swab. I'd give them a ring. Sure the receptionist is used to all kinds of things.

I've somehow signed up for buggy fit! Not sure I'll survive it but it's probably needed... Poor A won't know what's going on never run with her before.

Going to try and visit A's nursery on Wednesday with dh as feeling really worried about her starting in July. She feels so young, she'll be just 5 months when she starts. Any success stories out there?

Spged · 12/05/2014 08:05

Humpty please tell us more about your latest tactic! We've been up every 90 mins for the last few nights abd it's killing me! Last night, I did jump up at every sound though as we are staying with BIL and his DS has GCSEs this morning. I was terrified of disturbing him during the night but think we managed not too.

This is the start of our week away and it's been a bit of a disaster so far. Apart from the sleeping / probable growth spurt, the dog appeared back from playing with the children last night with all four of her large paw pads severely damaged. She's manged to wear down large chunks on each of them from running on hard ground. Vet friend says no walking and we have to try and keep them dry. Not ideal for the next 5 days when we'd planned lake and sea side walks. I'm really disappointed and got quite upset last night, but probably the tiredness hasn't helped.

Sorry for the woe is me post

AMillionNameChangesLater · 12/05/2014 08:06

Henry woke up at 5 today, but i brought him into my bed and he has just woken up! Ds1 is still asleep too. I don't want to check on him in case he wakes, so I'm trusting he's still alive.

Today is Henry's blood tests at the hospital, i dunno how long i will be waiting for the results.

felix i think you're ok to do the swab while on your period, it wont change the results, its just to see if you have an infection. Deffo call and ask though if you're worried

Spged · 12/05/2014 08:19

Sorry Felix I'm no help either. I would give them a call

Fly I'm terrified about the whole nursery thing too, but everyone I meet tells me that their children love it and is so much better for attending nursery etc so I feel that I'll just have to try and be strong. 5 months is young, but just make sure you ask about absolutely everything, no matter how small you think it is and maybe that will make you feel a bit better. Also I wonder if nursery routine helps with nighttime sleeping? Might be a possible plus?

Spged · 12/05/2014 08:21

Million hope today goes ok and the blood taking isn't too distressing for you all

Gettingthroughthis · 12/05/2014 09:06

felix no advice I'm afraid but I'd suggest calling to check

fly visiting the nursery and seeing how happy h seemed there really made me feel better about it all and apparently under 8 months to start is best as that's when they get clingy ignoring the fact that h is already clingy!

humpty yes please send some magic this way too!

Good luck million
