Hello everyone,
I have been reading but not writing as not had much time to myself and was trying to make the flat sort of presentable for viewings. Owner has raised the rent 100 euros so I hope we can find someone before we leave as we gave less than the required notice...oops.
I love having a tidy flat though, it is great!
Here is the essay...
Cloth nappies have also arrived. Need to wash them: I have bright bots white terries, some bumbles and some LL one size pockets plus boosters and bamboo wipes. Decided to stick to cotton for nappies as washing powder in egypt is not to be trusted. Only trouble is, I can't find non bio here in France and soap flakes seem to be out too because they contain glycerin. Who knew this stuff was so tough? I am probably just going to wash the terries anyway because there is no elastic and I hope that one wash won't make a difference. I won't be tumble drying either which may help. Any ideas? Going to the organic supermarket to look for non bio tomorrow but the nappies look so good I don't want to wait! aaargh!
The bumbles look really good and solid, and I like the integrated fleece liner and the poppers for attaching the booster. Seems like it will be a great night time nappy if I can't be bothered folding the terries. I wish I had bought more of the LL pockets and maybe not gone for the terries but even LL pockets are four times as expensive as a terry nappy and I am not sure how they will hold up over time if I use crap washing powder. They look much more solid than I thought they would and the elastic seems fine even though it hasn't got a double gusset.
N is between sizes in the motherease wraps but I don't have much to spend so I just got the M/L and L ones and am hoping for the best. He is now 7kgs and the M/L say from 9kgs, but N is quite short and squat and the popolini L were fine round the legs and just a bit loose round the tummy on a disposable nappy so am hoping for the best. If not, LL pockets it is!
Baby carriers I have also tried the ergo ventus again. More confortable now than the baby bjorn original and N isn't completely swamped but he still drops down in it after a few minutes so I think without insert or a towel the baby should be 65cm plus. He is 62cm now and just about ok without anything to raise him up. I think the 5.8kg lower limit is a bit low and 7 to 7.5kg more reasonable if your baby isn't very tall.
The baby bjorn is becoming a bit more uncomfortable but I can still do a day trip ok so long as N isn't forward facing which I tried for the first and probably last time on Sunday. He liked it, I felt like I was being pulled over and as soon as he started getting a bit tired he was overstimulated and freaked. Slept as soon as he was switched round. Despite this, I do think I was too critical of the baby bjorn when N was small (turns out very small babies are just quite hard to carry!) and having tried the ergo see how much easier the Baby bjorn is for quick trips. A stretchy wrap probably would have been best but N would have grown out of it before he was ready for the ergo, so all in all if bought second hand (they are dirt cheap) a baby bjorn original is great. Would be careful though if you have back problems or pelvic floor issues, it does pull you forward. I am taking the baby bjorn with us on the plane trip because it is so much easier to take on and off and I don't want any extra stress during the move!
Eczema I have eczema and have a masive flare up at the moment which I am not taking seriously enough. Oats in the bath are amazing, really try it. With regards to laundry detergent, I have always found that the detergent I use matters a lot less than making sure clothes are really well rinsed in the machine. Modern machines tend not to rinse as well in order to save on water so doing an extra rinse cycle is really important, and if you can still feel the detergent on the clothes when you take them out the machine use less detergent too.
