That sounds gross Stunt GrinEnvy

GTbaby · 19/04/2014 13:57

I'm not a coffee drinker at all.
I'd prob do same thing, as in have a menu calculated then stick to that every fast day.
Keep meaning to look at the MN thread. But it's hard joining things, so much to catch up on.

Wandathewindfairy · 19/04/2014 13:58

Am 5:2ing at the minute to shift my extra 5lbs or so. I have had a quick look at so e of the chat threads on here and I just think you need to be a bit careful about keeping your fast days healthy. Some people were saying to skip breakfast as it means you don't get as hungry and I know someone who had pomme bears for tea Confused if you do a google search on it there are some great ideas for meals. I have been making a load of leek and potato soup so we have that for our dinner on one day and I have it for lunch on my other day.

Wandathewindfairy · 19/04/2014 13:59

The is a Marie Claire article knocking. Around with so e good ideas in it.

Lily311 · 19/04/2014 14:11

I tried 5:2 and did well on fast days. Not well on non fast days so it didn't work. I'm trying exercise and portion control this time, doing c25k, on week 4 already. Today I run for 34 minutes on the treadmill. And did swimming.

I really needed to be baby free today, was lovely going for a swim and not to hear whining. We are off for a walk tomorrow by the river and see a single mummy friend on Sunday. That's what I hate most, friends with families never have the time for you at the weekend, never :(.

ValiumQueen · 19/04/2014 14:17

I would eat veg soup or chilli or curry I think on my fast days. You can have quite a good amount for 500cals. I will give it a go when I am well. I am going to be 45 on Tuesday which is fucking old and I want this year to be the year I get fit again.

StuntNun · 19/04/2014 15:19

The thing about a bulletproof coffee VQ is that it sounds revolting but is actually lovely. I was put off them for ages by the recipe but when it's blended it goes like a lovely creamy coconut latte. A splash (

Jonas has started saying his name today. Well "Bear" at least am v Smile .

ChasingDaisy · 19/04/2014 16:54

I have to admit I am a bit of a diet sceptic. IMHO, healthy eating and exercise is the best way to sustain a healthy weight loss. Some of the diets mentioned here, seem unhealthy and quite frankly, scary! This is of course said as somebody who hasn't been in the position of having weight to lose, but I have always had an interest in nutrition and healthy eating.

don't shoot me

ChasingDaisy · 19/04/2014 16:55

Oh how cute YW Smile We had 'head' yesterday and 'sand' very insistently at the park Smile

YellowWellies · 19/04/2014 17:26

Chasing bulletproof coffee made me raise my eyebrows (sorry Stunt). Fad surely? Why does a good healthy diet need coffee? If you're needing the caffeine hit it suggests you might simply not be getting enough real fuel for your body? I think its easy to get addicted to fad diet after fad diet trying to recreate weight loss / mood highs and getting thinner and thinner and missing track of original weight loss intentions. There are just so many out there its a bit cultish! I think the paleo diet sounds very successful for lots of folks (though massively inaccurate compared to actual evidence of human diet in palaeolithic times!). 5:2 makes sense evolutionarily and fits with modern psychology (i.e. we're shit at denying ourselves for days on end so just having shorter fast periods is more achievable and fasting is actually good for us) but some of the other diets on here based round bizarre rules and core ingredients just make me think hmmmm Hmm surely just eat less, exercise more?

ValiumQueen · 19/04/2014 18:12

There is also the psychology of eating, which is really complicated. For some folk it is not a case of eating less and exercising more, but addressing the underlying issues. With a history of eating disorder I can do the eating less with no trouble at all. That is why I want to try the 5:2.

ChasingDaisy · 19/04/2014 18:18

Having had an eating disorder too, I completely understand the psychological element of it. The diet industry just makes me a bit angry and I don't think there's enough emphasis on health, as opposed to weight loss.

StuntNun · 19/04/2014 18:43

Eat less exercise more doesn't work for a lot of people. It was based on an idea that sounded sensible, as was the low fat diet commonly recommended, but when you delve into the actual research studies then it isn't effective. Eating less makes you more hungry. Exercising more makes you more hungry. So with eat less exercise more you're going to be hungry all the time. In my particular case insulin resistance/pre-diabetes meant my blood sugar was spiking and dipping all over the place so cutting down on carbs has allowed my body to regulate it's intake such that I dropped to a healthy BMI in five months and have stayed at the same weight for another five months without doing any more exercise and without being hungry all the time. Now if you're not insulin resistant then maybe you don't need a low carb diet. But my weight had been slowly increasing year on year and no amount of exercise was helping, even when I was going to the gym five times a week, when I was swimming miles every week, or at the peak of my running mania. I really don't think the 'one size fits all diet' mandated by governments is helpful. What is helpful is information so that people can make an informed choice on what might be the best approach for them. I remember dismissing the Atkins diet a few years ago when it was the 'in' diet. Oh how I wish I had paid attention as I could have lost the excess weight years ago.

I'd be up for a support group too. Starting my new regime on Friday but need to book in with the trainer and nutritionist this week. Think the first 12 weeks are aimed at a jump start but not sustainable long term. Hoping to crack my sugar addiction.

YellowWellies · 19/04/2014 19:53

Fair enough on the eat less / exercise more generalisation I always eat like a horse after exercise. I do think a special coffee diet is sounding like that Beyonce maple syrup / cayenne pepper 'special' diet though Confused . I also know folks get vair protective of their diet plans. Blush

PetiteRaleuse · 19/04/2014 19:59

I eat what I want but have quite small portions. Have to admit though that in England I let that go. The food on the ferry all youcan eat buffet yum. Blush

BigPigLittlePig · 19/04/2014 20:09

Nice bit of sea sickness puts paid to that sort if thing on my cross channel adventures, PR. Are you having lots of fun? I hope so.

As you know, am in camp chasing wrt weight, or lack of (have you porked up yet and abandoned me, girl?) so can't comment on weight loss realky. All I know was that one of my colleagues who was on the 5.2 diet, was fucking miserable by the end of the not-eating-much days.

I "wore" F today hate that phrase when we went out walking. She enjoyed herself, and we went all through the woods and streams before having a go on the rope swing. Came home to bbq tea - she was asleep in bed for 6.20 Shock

Nice work J on learning his name and O with his words. Clever babies.

PurplePidjin · 19/04/2014 20:18

Only thing that's worked for me is ditching the junk. When I moved here (with pizza, indian, chinese, chippy and late-opening supermarket all within eyesight of my front room) I resolved to ignore them and only buy treats if I wanted them at that time. I don't generally have alcohol, chocolate, crisps etc in the house - if I want them I have to walk to the shop downstairs in the same building to get them. I'm still a stone heavier than I'd like to be but I suspect the implant is hindering weight loss - I've toned up and slimmed down since stopping bf despite no real change in diet or exercise.

I also hate the term baby-wearing BP - he's not a handbag!

ChasingDaisy · 19/04/2014 20:27

Don't worry pig - still skeletal over here Grin I went for a run today which made me feel properly hungry for the first time in a very long time, so I've eaten a shed load tonight. Hopefully I can keep it up!

ChasingDaisy · 19/04/2014 20:31

YW I must admit I worried about posting what I did - I didn't want to offend - but it is something I feel strongly about. Any diet that restricts eating between certain times/on certain days just doesn't sit right with me. I'm also aware that a skinny offering diet advice may well piss people off

Wandathewindfairy · 19/04/2014 20:41

I think you are right chasing and that is what I do generally as I think is the only way really to loose and maintain weight. However I have a tendency to get Into bad habits Once In a while, snacking on rubbish etc, a good way to break bad habits, for me, it to be v strict with myself, which the 5:2 helps me be. And having done it a couple of weeks the 2 days àre actually not that bad, I have a medium egg on nimble , 1/4 can b beans or mushrooms on NImble for breakfast, cup a soup or veg soup at lunch and veg soup or a medium egg on nimble for tea ( obv if I haven't had the egg in the morning) I try to snack on raw veg as they are filling. I do it on busy days anyway, and drink lots of water.

I love food and cooking too much to do general fad diets.

The other thing which is good about the 5:2 is that it gives all your food processing organs a couple of days a week to recover from all the hard work they have to do the rest of the time.

I won't tell you I have just had my share of a lovely box of Thorntons!

Passmethecrisps · 19/04/2014 20:48

Halllllooooooooo!

Another beautiful day! I heard we are set for a six week heat wave - looks like it might the true. Lovely.

Diet, exercise and weight are deeply personal issues where our own approach can seem bizarre to others. I prefer methods which can be maintained long term and actually change your approach to food so are more lifestyle choices. However, this is easier said than done and I appreciate that a more concentrated method can be motivational.

My sister has had issues with her weight for her whole life. I can never understand why she keeps packets of kitkats and the like in the house but she is not me. She has eaten this stuff in high amounts her whole life so to suggest she just stop is patronising and misses the emotional and psychological issues. So I have learned to shut my mouth even when the 'answers' seem to obvious for her.

Anyway!

Mil sent a lovely book yesterday - Princess Penelope and the Runaway Kitten. It's by no means a literary classic but it made me smile and has lovely glitter all through it.

We have just finished day 2 of no dummy in the daytime and it has gone really well. I wasn't going to start until she had finished her ABs and this damned molar has come through but the other night at bedtime I was just blethering and she asked for meemee so I chatted away about how meemee was for little babies and bedtimes. The next morning she handed it over and hasn't asked for it during the day apart from immediately after her nap this afternoon. We went for lunch earlier which would usually have been a big challenge as I would have ended up giving it to her to stop her being so loud but she was fine. I am also absolutely convinced that she is using more words. Fingers crossed that she keeps moving on like this.

PurplePidjin · 19/04/2014 20:55

Random Q, but does anyone have Ewan and not use the music setting? Ours is getting a bit dodgy on that leg and we don't use the others so they're all fine. Swapsies?

Passmethecrisps · 19/04/2014 20:56

Fraid not pp. Ewan plinks away here. Love Ewan!
