We have quite a range of ages and they each develop at their own rates... so what can your toddler do?

I'm not switching the news on today :(

ChasingDaisy · 08/03/2014 18:36

There's DV stuff in the news today too. I never usually get affected by the news. Sodding PMT...

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/03/2014 18:43

chasing I thought of you today when I saw, in Tesco, some lovely Cath kidson style pj bottoms! pale blue with pink roses on, and they only bloody well had size 8-10!! Gorgeous, honestly, I may just order some and pick up.

I am finding the news interesting today 3 or so news worthy stories all in one day. Not often that happens. But I do know what you mean.

ChasingDaisy · 08/03/2014 18:48

I think that's why I've ended up watching the news today Sophia. There's been more to take my interest than usual. Well, this week actually. I've been watching the Pistorius coverage quite a bit.

I'll have a look in my Tesco Grin

PetiteRaleuse · 08/03/2014 20:23

I'm feeling awful. My freelancing cliens phoned me in a panic yesterday evening asking me to do some copywriting for Tuesday. I of course said yes but have just given it a go and I can't get my head round the brief. I just can't do it. Have done a couple of examples and emailed them back, pointing out how crap they are and asking them to get someone else to do it. They're going to hate me aren't they? I feel much more comfortable with the translating but I am worried they will stop giving me work as I have pissed them off. I just reckon it was best to be honest and say I don't think I am up for the job than to hand in shoddy work. I am a perfectionist and hate reading badly written crap, and would hate it even more if it was badly written by me iyswim.

Anyway, badly written rant over, I think I am going to go to bed and try and forget about it for the evening. I havn't been feeling brilliantly well this evening and have snapped at everyone, particularly DD1 and am feeling very bad about it. Can't even blame pmt.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/03/2014 20:26

Ooh we had pizza tonight. We very rarely get take out as the nearest one is 5 miles away and shite, and the nearest good ones are too far away (though I don't mind sending DH on a 40 mile round trip to get curry occasionally). Anyway a mobile pizza selling person has set up in the village on Saturday nights, just down my street, so this is very exciting news. I think Saturday nights will become pizza night every couple of weeks - they are cheap and really good.

StuntNun · 08/03/2014 20:28

Sophia I think you're supposed to have a shred-free day or two per week. Level 2 had me properly sweating today and I didn't need to take my inhaler this time - go me!

Evening wimmins.

I think you were right to be honest pr

It was me yw. I used to love a wee T with ice and slice. Good for leg cramps as well as long as it has quinine in. I think a glass a day is thought to be ok.

I have some sale boden stuff but almost all of P's clothes are either supermarket it fourth hand vair posh stuff.

We actually managed to get p's feet measured today and walk out without buying shoes! Success. We are going to buy online.

Has anyone ever used a babysitter in a hotel? We need to book one for PIL's golden wedding anniversary and I am not quite sure how it all works.

YellowWellies · 08/03/2014 21:08

Yeah my sister was all "OMG you can't drink quinine when pregnant it causes birth defects" so I panicked and then calmly decided to ask Professor Google and found out that actually you'd have to drink enough to cause fatal kidney damage to yourself before it would have an effect on the foetus. So I think my few glasses a week are no biggy. I'm also (shhhhhh) eating soft boiled eggs this time. Eggs with a solid yolk - f*ck that my diet's restricted enough...

PR that's the joy of freelance if you don't think you can do a piece justice you don't have to do it - just say no and be honest about your reasons. You've tried and you've turned it down - no worries, they will still appreciate you for the work you are comfortable doing I am sure. They won't expect you to be all things to all men.

I'm very envious of the pizzas. I am craving pizza. And cheese and pickle sarnies. These are things I remind myself of when I think about weaning. 19 days til I wean him. Was kissing his wee head and cuddling him tonight as I nursed him to sleep and he was sleepily stroking my cheek, and feeling very sad that it's going to end soon as its a part of the day that we both really love. From my sister and cousin who have done the extended dairy free diet they both said that actually once you can have all of the banned foods again you realise they really aren't all that. I know I'm going to miss nursing him more than I'll love chocolate. Not sure about stilton. That might win out Grin

BigPigLittlePig · 08/03/2014 21:42

YW I still miss feeding F, and I only fed her half the length of time you have fed J. But there will be other, new ways to bond. New routines to make, with sneaky cuddles. And although chocolate doesn't replace it, not even close, it does help Wink

PetiteRaleuse · 08/03/2014 21:42

I thought runny eggs were ok as long as fresh and kitemarked? I have to admit I didn't follow many of the guidelines for food when pg. I just washed fruit and veg more carefully and with things like pâtés checked they were fresh (asked butcher etc) and only ate them when I knew who had made it - ie at a favourite restaurant I'd eat pate but not at a place I wasn't familiar with. I never heard anything about quinine either.

YellowWellies · 08/03/2014 21:51

PR apparently in Germany women are told to avoid it completely. My sister errs on the side of caution after her daughter turned up so early she is still looking for something that she did that 'caused it' IYSWIM? So any warnings and she would avoid something and urges me to do the same. I'm much more chilled out than she is - I guess because I didn't go through what she did, and much more chilled out this time than with J, though actually I fancy very different things. With J it was all about cramming whole pies and cakes into my face. Now it's about eating little and often and I'm craving quite light things like apples, sushi (fine if its been frozen) and orange juice. If I'd have craved apples with J I wouldn't have put on 3-4 stone!!! I do feel more queasy this time but still not actually sick nor feeling like I'm going to be sick, I just feel a bit off. I do think this is team pink with a lot more certainty this time (70% sure) with J I was 50/50 and decided he was a girl because everyone reckoned I was carrying like a girl and I figured they must be right. I certainly didn't think of him as a he or a she in my head whereas this time I am tending to think of it as a she? We're not going to find out though so I'll be playing the pink or blue guessing game for the next seven months! Again.

Passmethecrisps · 08/03/2014 21:52

I specifically looked the quinine thing up because I was in France on holiday at 8 weeks pregnant with leg cramps and nausea. I think it is recommended that you don't exceed 250ml per day. You can get tonic without quinine - schweppes has it added whereas many cheaper brands don't. I used to feel naughty if I had a second glass!

Oh! Speaking of eggs. Little miss egg allergy had some frittata and was reaction free! It would appear she has outgrown all freaky eating. Huzzah! No more worrying that she is going to get fed a boiled egg when my back is turned.

I don't remember finding the NHS advice that onerous but I don't like much of the stuff they advise you to avoid anyway. I do like pate a lot but I wasn't in a position to eat it for the 9 months anyway.

I do remember being massively hacked off at a pal at work telling me off for eating peanut butter saying "oh! You're not supposed to eat that!" I was Hmm and could barely conceal my irritation. I just responded with "guidelines have changed."

YellowWellies · 08/03/2014 21:55

I think I curtly corrected some stranger at Edinburgh airport who saw my piggy form troughing sushi last time and did the Shock face at me. "Whatevs love - think you care more about this wee baby than me? Nom nom nom now hand me that nigiri or I'll sit on you....."

Elizadoesdolittle · 08/03/2014 21:55

lily Fabulous! I'm a bit late to do the clinking but cheers to you. So happy for you.

pass I used one. The hotel put us in touch with a website they recommended with babysitting services. I can't remember what website it was. But ask the hotel, they may do the same. It's expensive as you need to pay a fee for the agency then an hourly rate to the sitter which you pay them in cash. But well worth it for special occasions.

Lovely day today mooching about in the garden. More of the same tomorrow. Going to go to a garden centre and get some bits for DD1 to plant and E to probably then pull up! It's so lovely having proper outdoor space for the girls. Makes this move worthwhile.

Passmethecrisps · 08/03/2014 22:00

Thanks eliza. Did you put the wee one to sleep then swap with the sitter? Do they just sit in the dark in the room? The hotel has given us the names of a couple of agencies they have worked with before so it is just a case of speaking to them. FIL seems to think we can just hand p over and go for drinks. I would rather give more thought to it

Elizadoesdolittle · 08/03/2014 22:06

pass The intention was for us to put DD1 to sleep and then for the sitter to sneak in whilst we headed out. However, we did then think if she wakes up and there's a stranger in the room she might definetley freak out. So we had the sitter with us for a while whilst I did bath, pj's etc and then left when the sitter read to her. The sitter just pretty much just sat in a dark corner till DD1 was asleep and then read a book with a table lamp on. I was quite apprehensive about it but it actually worked really well and I'd have no hesitation about doing it again.

YellowWellies · 08/03/2014 22:08

Eliza that sounds a really good way of doing it. J would go batshit if a stranger tried to comfort him in the night!

Passmethecrisps · 08/03/2014 22:16

That sounds ideal. We reckoned as long as p was sleepy enough she would be ok but I do worry about the stranger in the room. P rarely ever fully wakes usually just needing rearranged or her dummy. However, in a strange environment it might be different.

Elizadoesdolittle · 08/03/2014 22:45

I did wonder how on earth she'd fall asleep with a stranger sitting there but she did it no problems. I also thought she'd wake when we cam back to the room but she didn't stir at all. Don't forget if P was to wake and couldn't be comforted by the sitter you wouldn't be far away so very easy to run back for a cuddle.

GTbaby · 09/03/2014 01:39

Lovely evening out. Celebrating FHs nieces 1st bday. Exhausted tho. And wired Shock cant sleep.

Will put a few pics up on FB later. I like seeing lots of pics recently. Next pix challenge can be babies having fun out doors. That's a fun/easy one.

Lily311 · 09/03/2014 06:20

Thank you everyone, I had an early night after all those alcohol. Getting my baby back today, can't wait to kiss and cuddle her. I did zero studying and was dead bored but now back on track. It's a sunny day here so the washing is drying on the balcony.

gt FREEDOM!!!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/03/2014 07:08

Ahhh yes. D day for gt Grin

Sounds lovely lily I haven't even opened the curtains here yet, DH has got the boys up and they are scarily quiet!

fruitpastilles · 09/03/2014 07:34

Lovely morning here aswell, I have a wash on and can't wait to get it out on the line.
Taking S for a nice long walk today, can't beat it when the weather is like this. I love sunny crisp fresh mornings, they just put me in such a good mood Smile

PetiteRaleuse · 09/03/2014 07:59

Morning. I'm still in an awful mood despite a good night's sleep. Think I will just try to get through the day without snapping at everyone.
