I expect it will be quiet in here for a while with only four Martians born so far and it not even being March yet Smile

Those who have popped so far:
Coolhand
Dabarai

Wuxiapian

Hi Dita on here too Wink xxx.

Vikkijayne2507 · 05/04/2014 22:37

Hi Dita I had a James almost exactly 24 hours after you did I just read your birth story glad all is well now after a tricky birth

puggywug81 · 06/04/2014 04:02

Hello ladies, I'm finally joining you on the other side, hope you will still take me as Finlay held out till 2nd April so he's not technically a martian! It is our last night in the birth Centre, we are going home tomorrow - Sunday. I'm excited but scared as I've had so much support here at the Centre, everyone has been amazing!

EmFlat · 06/04/2014 07:59

Yay, hi Puggy! Smile Well, there are February babies here too Wink

Fender1 · 06/04/2014 08:42

Hi Dita (what a birth story!) I'm so pleased you and James made it to the post natal thread Smile glad you're settling into your new life, and second what other posters say about bf / ff, it's one aspect of being a mum and we all do what we need to do to survive !!
And hi Puggy and Finlay, good luck on your release into the real world later today Grin

puggywug81 · 06/04/2014 09:12

Thanks Fender and Em and congratulations Dita you should be so proud of yourself.

Fender1 · 06/04/2014 09:41

EmFlat, how is Ben getting on with Aptimal / colic now? Did you change his bottles in the end?

EmFlat · 06/04/2014 11:47

DH has just taken him out to give me an hour's p&q... gone to Kiddicare to buy them! A friend's just given us some Avent bottles, which I've got in the steriliser, so we're getting teats and formula. Bad night last night, no more than 2 hours sleep at a time and Ben was fidgeting against something even then! I feel bad for being selfish and just wishing he'd sleep quietly/at all, but worried at the same time as the poor bugger's obviously uncomfortable! Hope this works.

Hope everyone else is doing okay today...

Fender1 · 06/04/2014 12:01

I think everything feels worse in middle of night.
fingers crossed the other bottles make a difference...

puggywug81 · 06/04/2014 13:47

Good luck with the new bottles Em.

At home with Fin now, we have had our first feed and nappy change since getting discharged, now we are having a snuggle on the sofa, it's lovely

mrsmugoo · 06/04/2014 14:15

Afternoon all - anyone else had blocked ducts? Confused

If it's not one thing it's another with breastfeeding!

Fender1 · 06/04/2014 14:58

That sounds delicious Puggy, enjoy itSmile
I had blocked ducts MrsM with my previous DC, gentle hand expressing / massage all around the area helps. I found the warmth of a bath/shower helped too. How are you& Edward getting on? Is he settling better in his Moses basket?
Our latest thing Luke loves here is the fisher price rocking swing, he's currently dead to the world in it whereas yesterday he would only sleep on me!

commsgirl · 06/04/2014 18:10

Em I hope the new bottles work and give you both a break. Poor little love and poor you with such little sleep! Fender's right though, everything does feel worse in the middle of the night.

Puggy welcome home to both of you. Enjoy your snuggles!

We're snuggled up here too. Had a couple of settling in problems with switching to ff but today's been a good day. I can't believe Clara will be two weeks old on Wednesday!

Imeg · 06/04/2014 20:54

We had issues with sickiness/wind when using bottles (for expressed milk/occasional top ups with formula). Got some doctor brown's bottles on recommendation of health visitor and early days but do seem to be better so far. Have actually been able to leave baby with husband and have nap without him getting v frustrated at it all coming back up :) (husband that is - baby didn't seem bothered by copious puking although would then be hungry again).
Baby was v angelic at pub lunch with friends today so suspect may be awake all night!

mrsmugoo · 06/04/2014 21:09

Hi Fender - we're doing great thank, still experiencing trials and tribulations with his breastfeeding but am going to the support group tomorrow to try to get some advice on getting him to latch easier and it just be such a battle as it really stops me from being confident to be able to do it in public. I can see he's gaining weight though as he feeds well once he's on and I think he's having a growth spurt as he's been feeding like a demon this weekend!

We've just retreated to bed for the night, hopefully we can break through the 2 at a time hour sleep barrier tonight - wishful thinking?!

puggywug81 · 06/04/2014 21:25

Hello ladies, glad everyone is well.

Are blocked ducts when your breast is really hard lumpy and painful? If so I can empathise mrsmugoo

Vikkijayne2507 · 06/04/2014 22:32

I get painful boob expressing in the shower helps I produce a lot of milk so it's an ongoing issue

EmFlat · 07/04/2014 08:36

Thanks for the best wishes, Comms, Puggy and Fender Smile

We've switched to C&G Comfort formula and Tommee Tippee med.flow teats (for 3 months+, but sod it), and it seems to be working! He feeds in a more normal time again, still struggles to wind quickly but 'oh well', and has slept for a proper 3-3.5hr stretch since 8pm last night! Taking 3-4oz each time. Onwards and upwards, I hope Wink

Miserable, rainy day here so think shall drag self to 'Bumps & Babies' coffee meet to see the other mums, but stay cozy otherwise. Anyone got more exciting plans?

mrsmugoo · 07/04/2014 12:47

Managed to sort the blocked duct with copious amounts of ibuprofen, hot flannels, massage and hand expressing plus a couple of monster 30 min feeds from him. So relieved!

puggywug81 · 07/04/2014 14:10

Aww Emflat & Mrsmugoo, glad things are on the up!

We've just had our 1st home visit from midwife, heel prick done and Finlay has been weighed, he is now up to 11lbs and I have got some blocked ducts so flannels and massage for me too. Overall though very happy.

mrsmugoo · 07/04/2014 14:37

Ooh 11lb that is awesome - good boob skills!

commsgirl · 07/04/2014 15:09

puggy well done to you and Finlay. Hope the boobs get better soon.

mrs glad things have cleared up for you!

I'm feeling really down today. I'm not really sure why as we're doing really well and we've got no real issues. I'm guessing it's just hormones! Currently snuggled up on the sofa with a very sleepy Clara. Might send DP out for chocolate.

EmFlat · 07/04/2014 18:58

Glad it's cleared, Mrs - and well done Puggy! How old is Finlay now? That's a great weight Smile

Sorry you're feeling down, Comms Hmm Is everything okay?

FrankelandFilly · 07/04/2014 19:01

I find myself having up and down days too Comms. I've finally come to the conclusion that the old Mumsnet phrase applies to life with a newborn - this too shall pass!

One day at a time, or if need be one hour at a time.

puggywug81 · 07/04/2014 19:48

Aww Comms hope the chocolate helps, hormones are erratic aren't they!

Glad everything has cleared up Mrs.

Finlay is now 5 days old, he went down to 10lb 10 at the 72he weigh in, now he's upto 11lbs. He's having a bit of grizzly afternoon, he doesn't
want to settle.

I like the advice Franken
