I wish I could sew but I cant and don't have the patience lol but if I could I would definitely make a Patchwork Quilt or something similar.

I haven't made any mummy friends either, I have been speaking to someone from mumsnet who is local but we are yet to meet I am hoping we will soon - I am in West Sussex. I am going to a baby sensory class this Thursday so we will see how that goes.
I have been out and about just not at baby clubs yet, I am a little nervous as I am quite a shy person so I struggle with engaging face to face with new people or making the first move - if you see what I mean.
I really hope to make some new friends though with bubbas around the same age!

commsgirl · 28/05/2014 12:11

Good luck to you too Alixion!

I found that really hard :(. C seems absolutely fine though after a little cry. I've got calpol at the ready in case we need it.

I've been spending a lot of time with my non mummy friends but I'm the first one to have a baby so I feel like I should start making the effort to meet some other mummies.

Imeg · 29/05/2014 14:32

I started going to the local Surestart group quite early on as it's only round the corner from me. Totally free and all sorts of activities eg one week there was a singing/signing class, another time they were doing hand/footprints.

OwlinaTree · 29/05/2014 16:52

I love my groups! I go to 2 local toddler groups so I've meet some local people and the breast feeding group inthe local town where there are more mums of babies. It is a bit daunting to start with, but you have to just keep going for a few weeks and it does get easier to chat to people. I'd definately recommend it.

Alixion · 30/05/2014 08:54

We survived our second set of jabs! Yay! DS was quite sleepy and unsettled in the night but could be comforted back to sleep - phew!

I'm definitely going along to my local sure start next week owlinatree it's really nearby and I can't believe I haven't been yet! It's my new resolution to get out there a bit. I did post on the friendship bench in mumsnet local but it is sllllooooooowwww over there, tumbleweed tumbleweed. So I'll have to try a bit harder....

Me and DS are off for our first night away from home tonight - I'm going to stay with my parents just for a change of scene. I'm so excited as although family are about an hours drive away it means that we only really have visits/or go visiting for a few hours and by staying we can properly hang out and catch up.

Hope everyone has fun weekend plans?!

FrankelandFilly · 30/05/2014 09:24

We've got our second set of jabs next Thursday. I've been along to a few groups but they're all mixed age groups and DD gets startled by all the noise the toddlers make! I've found a few local "under 1" groups on the internet so will try those out next week.

I had my hospital check up for my dodgy boob yesterday and I was hoping they'd discharge me but they want to see me again in 2 weeks.

Vikkijayne2507 · 30/05/2014 22:17

had 2 month old jabs earlier this week. It was horrendous. He cried so hard I cried and I didn't think I would. No way I can do the 4 months ones oh will hold him. I've never felt so bad and guilty. He's been difficult for last 3 days very unsettled which im hoping is injection related.
9 weeks + 4 days

Alixion · 31/05/2014 19:29

Vikki The immunisation nurse said to me last time that if they don't cope too well with the first set they are often fine with the second! So fingers crossed it goes that way for you :)

commsgirl · 31/05/2014 22:17

C has her first cold :(. I thought it might be vaccination related at first but we've all come down with it now. Poor little love.

I've decided I'm going to go to the baby group in the village next week and also ring up my nearest baby massage/yoga to see about starting those.

Possibly slightly contraversial but has anyone moved their baby into their own room yet/is anyone thinking about it?

Alixion · 31/05/2014 22:55

Oh no! I'm dreading the first cold! Hope you all feel better soon!

I don't think we're far off moving DS to his own room. I thought we would wait until he was older than 4 months (just for the reduced SIDS risk) and when he sleeps more consistently at night. I thought we were getting progress as he had reduced to only one wake up but he has been more unsettled the last few nights - hopefully just a blip!

I have moved his cot a few steps away from my side of the bed now in the hope that he gets used to being a bit further away. I don't think he really cares! Its me that has become more of a worrier about him and I find myself waking up more often than he is to check if he's OK...

Sometimes I think that we unsettle him when we come to bed. DS is down at 7 then me at 10 then DH at 1ish. I do wonder if he would sleep better without us :(

Jacksarrivedsleepsleftthebuild · 01/06/2014 07:40

Hey comms, Jack has been in his own room since 7 weeks as he outgrew his moses. I was nervous the first few nights and dnt think i slept lol but its easier now. I dnt feel he sleeps any better yet and had to place a rolled up blanket either side of him for comfort altho i cld remove these now i think as it was just an adjustment period for him!
My doctor said just do what feels right, no one knows the cause of sids and they are not miles away from you when in their own rooms and hers were in their own room at two weeks. I was in my own room from ten days as was my brother.

I notice that the moses arent really designed to last six months unless you have a small baby. Jack is 2lbs of a stone and very long so there was no way wr cld keep him in it any longer!

Are you thinking about it then comms?
Sorry to hear of the cold i too am dreading that Sad

Alixion · 01/06/2014 09:02

You make a really good point Jacks - you could go crazy worrying about the 'rules' for when to wean, when to move into a separate room, SIDS etc. They're great as a guide but I'm learning that part of being a mother is trusting your instincts - I'll admit I've found that quite hard! :)

DS also outgrew Moses at 8 weeks but we were able to squish his cotbed into our room.

mrsmugoo · 01/06/2014 09:15

We're quite far off own room at the moment!

We ditched the Moses basket at 8 weeks and bought a cot for our room and switched DS from swaddling to grobag. I was so desperate at the time as he was waking up 45 mins to an hour all flipping night and I had to rule out discomfort from a too small MB and dislike of swaddling as he always wriggled out of it.

However he hates the cot and won't stay asleep in it so we now co-sleep which I'm happy with. He usually does anything from 3-5 hours long stretch from 8:30 and then 2 hourly after that.

I'm going to start trying to introduce cot for day time naps as currently he does them all in my arms and as much as I do enjoy the snuggles it would be nice to have this time to shower, tidy up etc...

When we're down to 1 or 2 wakes in the night (currently on 3 or 4) I'll consider cot for night sleeps.

commsgirl · 01/06/2014 09:24

I'm starting to feel like it's time. C will be 10 weeks on Wednesday and is definitely starting to outgrow her Moses basket - she keeps waking herself up hitting the sides. I've noticed she stirs every time either of us makes a noise too. She's no longer waking up for food but still needs resettling a couple of times a night which I think is noise/too much light related (both would be better in her own room). Obviously the SIDS risk worries me but I'm trying to trust my instincts.

Make sure you've got some saline nasal spray ready for when the first cold hits, it's an absolute lifesaver!

commsgirl · 01/06/2014 09:29

Mrs I'm glad to hear DS is starting to sleep longer stretches - hope things keep improving for you! C still has probably about 90% of her daytime naps on me. I'm going to start trying to get her morning one (which is usually the longest) in her cot and see how she goes from there. I don't mind the snuggles too much though!

Imeg · 01/06/2014 11:32

Hmm, interesting about moving to their own rooms. We have a crib rather than a moses basket and the length is still ok but it's starting to seem a little narrow and he does hit the sides with his hands. He seems happy with it still but I'm wondering how long he will stay in it. He slept in his fairly large travel cot last night for the first time and slept for the same stretches as he has been doing at home so I think he'd be ok in the big cot but there's no way it would fit in our bedroom so I'll try to keep him in the crib a bit longer I think.

Imeg · 01/06/2014 18:02

PS We just did our first walk across the fields with the baby carrier - was great not to be confined to pram-friendly paths! Didn't go too far as I didn't want to strain myself and was a bit nervous of tripping up etc but I'm looking forward to doing it again and getting more confident.

commsgirl · 01/06/2014 20:53

It's fab isn't it Imeg. I use it more than the pram for walks now I've built my confidence up with it and C loves it.

FrankelandFilly · 02/06/2014 16:30

Anyone else hit the 12 week growth spurt? DD is sleeping almost constantly (3 hour "nap" this morning and she's been asleep for the last half an hour too!). She's putting away milk like there's no tomorrow as well as being a bit cranky. She should be coming to the end of it though as her increased appetite started on Saturday afternoon!

mrsmugoo · 02/06/2014 16:35

Pretty sure we are - he's doing two boobs at a time which he never does apart from bedtime.

Vikkijayne2507 · 02/06/2014 17:56

hey comms my little is 10 weeks today he's had tla terrible week routine all over the place. I was wondering is there a size guide when they are too long or wide for their carry cots or cribs. James is hitting the sides as he somehow wiggles to one side and there's not much length left. anyone else having a really hard time with gas. he burps plenty during feed but he constantly has gas and needs massaging to help poo with gas. ive read his digestive b system is just immature and it will be better by 4 or 5 months. he really wants to sleep but it keeps him and us awake

commsgirl · 02/06/2014 18:49

C struggles with gas too but I do think it's an immaturity thing.

I don't think there's a size guide as such but I just noticed that she was hitting the sides and waking herself up.

mrsmugoo · 02/06/2014 20:13

Yes DS is 12 weeks on Wednesday and also wakes himself and us up all night struggling to get his farts out.

I give gripe water and do leg bicycles and tummy massage.

Alixion · 03/06/2014 19:39

We've had a grumpy couple of days here :(

DS is not sleeping well, waking up often and crying which we are not used to. I'm struggling to find ways to comfort him without feeding (bf). I don't mind feeding him in the night but just doubting myself that I'm doing the right thing and don't want to overfeed him.

I know its all tied into his development jump - he's learnt how to roll and so is much more active in his cot at night. He also looks at us at bedtime like we're evil parents for stopping him from having fun...

Am going to get a Jumperoo and hopefully it'll ease his frustration at not being able to crawl!

Vikkijayne2507 · 04/06/2014 09:26

glad to hear it's not just us. He's just had a massive poo trying to get him to nap so I can too. He's much more engaging and complains if he can't see me (when I need a wee etc) thank god last week is over the injections messed him up for the whole week just a few days but better now other than continued bad gas I guess until next jabs at 4 months :(
