Babies are popping out and were turning into a group of mummies not preggos Grin.

I thought I'd start a new thread over here where we can hold hands through sore nips, milky sick, explosive poo and lack of sleep. Along with super cute newborn snuggles of course!

Elyssa's cord fell off the night of day 4 but I tjink it's quite early. Was during a midnight change and didn't notice till morning- ggave me a bit of a shock this wizened thing lying on the changing mat!

laura0007 · 19/02/2014 06:25

Yes we lost ours on day 4 too!

HopeS01 · 19/02/2014 07:39

Hi! Please can I join? I've been over on the antenatal thread waiting for all the babies to come but I think it's time I moved over Grin

camwombat · 19/02/2014 11:24

Ours also came off on day 4 (well overnight), I think it was same for ds too. However it is still bleeding a little bit on and off but mw was unconcerned as she is with seemingly everything I have doctors tomorrow (as I think stitches may be infected) so will get them to check it then.

Sorry for the delay misskat, i've been doing tummy crunches, hip & leg exercises, anything to get my body back!!! ANYTHING (sooo vain)

CubanoHabana · 20/02/2014 03:05

Thanks guys!

Discovered the amazingness that are nipple shields today! Baby cubano been hysterically crying but would latch on then come straight back off and would only stop with finger in mouth... Thought I would try nipple shield due to pain and straight away he was on and stayed on and fed really well!

Didn't help that boobs hugely engorged, seriously look page 3 implants! Got nursing bras in an e cup and they are miles to small!

HopeS01 · 20/02/2014 07:10

Cubano, I was really struggling with engoregement too, so I started using the little collection cups, I just put one on the opposite boob from the one he's feeding and it's such a relief. I'm collecting and freezing about 12-16 oz a day, this will be a treat for him in a few weeks Grin
I was so tempted so start expressing some milk off because I was in so much pain but just the cups (and frozen breast pads) seem to be doing the trick for now.

CubanoHabana · 20/02/2014 07:54

Ooh frozen breast pads! hope you are a star! Off to try this now!

laura0007 · 20/02/2014 18:13

Does anyone else who is formula feeding have any sort of routine yet? I sometimes think he's having a bottle every three hours but then he will start having one every two hours instead! Wish I knew when to make up bottles in advance and I'd save a fortune in ready made milk and screaming baby waiting for powdered milk to cool!

EeyoreIsh · 20/02/2014 18:22

hope what are collection cups? DD has been feeding less the last few days as she's been constipated, so my boobs are getting really quite engorged and sore. I did some expressing on the really sore breast which helped a bit.

lazyfrog · 20/02/2014 18:24

laura - I'm in the same boat awaitin the promised 4 hour feeds! I am cheating though and making 3 bottles at a time ssssh...

laura0007 · 20/02/2014 18:41

Glad it's not just me! I can't wait to get a decent couple of hours sleep altogether in one stretch!! Are you making them up then putting them in the fridge until you need them? What do you do at night?

HopeS01 · 20/02/2014 23:15

Eeyore
The ones I use are Medela (sp?) and they're absolutely wonderful!!!
You just put one over your nipple (under your bra) while you're feeding from the other side and the milk just drips in!

I just decant it from there into bottles/storage pots and freeze it. It's helped soooooo much with soreness and it doesn't stimulate the supply in the same way pumping does!

Please try it! X

CubanoHabana · 21/02/2014 02:13

hope are they called collection cups? Will try and get some tomorrow...

Thingymajigs · 21/02/2014 04:04

I use these Medela shells too cubano. I've found them really useful for all three of my babies. I'm trying to use them less now that my supply is calming down a bit but they are great for collecting milk to store.

jazzcat28 · 21/02/2014 06:14

laura we are bottle feeding and finding DD fluctuates between 2-4hrs between feeds. So I make the next bottle after about 2.5hrs (unless she cries before) as once made you can use the milk for 2 hrs. Luckily she's not fussy on temperature - will drink warm or cold. If making one up urgently I stand hot bottle in sink of cold water, it's usually ready in 5-6mins (or whip out the ready made stuff if it's a total meltdown!)

lazyfrog · 21/02/2014 13:13

Laura I'm making 3 or 4 bottles up at a time and keeping them in the back of the fridge. One of the midwives said its not the way we're supposed to tell you to make up bottles but its practical.

I make them up with hot (not boiling water), cool quickly then refrigerate. Then we take the chill off (if he'll wait) by standing in hot water for a few minutes. He'll take warm or cold just like jazzcat's girl.

He is generally going 3 hours between feeds, but does like to throw in a random day of 2 hourly feeding to mix things up a bit. Looking at the pack recommendations it means he's eating way more than suggested but we just haven't managed to get him down to 5 or 6 feeds a day yet.

Have you tried a dummy? I was dead against them, but I was wrong! What we thought was Eli being hungry after 1.5 - 2hours is usually him just wanting to suckle. Introducing the dummy has definitely bought us some more time between feeds.

laura0007 · 21/02/2014 17:50

Ive tried a dummy and he just won't take it. He has a suck then screws his face up and looks like an angry old man!

EeyoreIsh · 22/02/2014 01:20

Laura dd has been the same with dummies but we've tried different ones until we found one she'll use. She won't always take it but it can help settle her sometimes.

dd feeding hourly tonight, lucky me Hmm

doobeedee · 22/02/2014 08:25

Hello,

I'm just having a read of the latest post natal thread and reminiscing about having my DS in October! Just though I'd share how I do bottles to see if it would make it easier for some of you. I get all my bottles ready with cooled boiled water but don't fill them quite to the required level. I then keep a flask of boiled water with them and top up with that to the correct amount and temperature before adding the formula. This means your water is instantly at the correct temp instead if having to wait for water to warm/cool. It also works really well when out too. Hope this helps someone!

HopeS01 · 22/02/2014 09:06

Eeyore, is she having a good feed or just a little snack?

Hugo would feed every 10 minutes if he could!
He has a little 5 minute drink and then falls asleep. Now, I blow on him to wake him up and he has another little suck, falls asleep again, then I unbutton his babygrow so his legs get some air (to wake him up again!) and he has a bit more .... Sometimes I have to resort to a wet sponge on his face!
After 20/30 minutes of this I change his bum and go again.

He has a really good feed and a wind and then sleeps for 3 to 4 hours!!! I only do this at night. During the day I don't insist on filling him up so much Blush and he goes 1 1/2 to 2 hours between feeds

lazyfrog · 22/02/2014 13:22

Laura I don't know if it makes any difference but the dummies I have are the same make as his bottles so maybe they feel similar? They have really saved my sanity. I just plan on ditching them by around 3 months as he should be able to suck his fingers if he needs the comfort then.

I got a budget Avent pack which also included a breast pump which makes me sad as I've ended up on meds which aren't nursing friendly since delivery. Sad

pettyprudence · 22/02/2014 21:06

Well here we are, graduating to the post-natal club! I forgot just how deliciously snuggly newborns are, but also just how much breastfeeding fecking hurts!

My parents are coming to visit tomorrow because a) they have a new grand daughter and b) its my birthday Grin. My inlaws also wanted to come but I said to dh that's too much! I feel bad that they will have to wait another week but I think it would be too much for ds too - his little world has totally changed in the last 48 hours too and to suddenly have EVERYONE descend on us will just throw him in to turmoil I think.

bugsyburge · 23/02/2014 05:16

yay I can now officially join you ladies over here now!!!!

Wowsers, becoming a mum is truly amazing.... I think I'm still in the post birth bubble of euphoria from very little sleep but I could never understand when people would talk about this unconditional love that washes over you but as I type this with Poppy snoozing in my arms after having no more that 5 hours sleep since labour started on Wednesday morning, I just feel such overwhelming emotion and love for her...it's indescribable.

hope everyone is doing well tonight x
