Babies are popping out and were turning into a group of mummies not preggos Grin.

I thought I'd start a new thread over here where we can hold hands through sore nips, milky sick, explosive poo and lack of sleep. Along with super cute newborn snuggles of course!

Wow tea - exercises - well done! What kind of things have you been doing? I really need to start doing somehow

Ooops accidental post whilst trying to understand what baby wants!

Lol jazz - the joys of being covered in wee and poo!

Littlepanda - it's crazy how big older kids look in comparison isn't it. I saw a 6 month old at weigh in yesterday and he looked huuuuge! I'm sure our little ones will grow big before we know it though. We're already out if newborn clothes mostly Smile

Ok stupid first time mummy question - when going out and about for the day if taking bottle with you how do you do this? Do I sterilise then put empty sterilised bottle in changing bag? If so, should it go in something to protect the sterilisation?! Then I presumably take power to make up bottle or ready mixed formula to put in bottle. Or do I make up bottle as normal at home and put this in the bag to come out? The formula box says it can only be kept for 2hrs once made?

Who knew there could be such confusion about leaving the house! We are planning to take DD to a friends house in the week to visit and I'm already planning!!

LittlePandaBear · 15/02/2014 15:28

Hi Jazz. The easiest thing is to take a ready mixed bottle of formula off the shelf that doesn't have to be refrigerated. And yes, just sterilise the bottle before you go out and shove in bag. It's more about the inside of the bottle being clean rather than the outside if you see what I mean!
Impressed you're going out anyway, I've been hibernating all week! Weather so horrible! Got my sister and her kids visiting me tomorrow though so looking forward to that.

jazzcat28 · 15/02/2014 20:43

Thanks panda! Felt stupid for asking but actually had no idea what to do. The friend we will be visiting has just had a major operation and is on strict bed rest for a long time so the only way she can meet DD is for us to go to her. This is the only outing planned for all next week and I'm stressed already thinking about logistics but it'll be another learning curve.

Milk has come in today. Boobs feel like bowling balls. Guessing it's far too late to offer them to DD as she's taking 50-80ml of formula now, which I surely cannot produce as haven't bf or expressed a tiny bit?

misskatamari · 16/02/2014 00:13

Try not to stress about your trip jazz I'm sure it will go really well and your friend will be so chuffed to see you both.

If you wanted to give bf a go I'm sure you could do formula top ups until your milk supply increased. Just go with whatever feels best for you x

anyone else with hairy headed babies do i wash her hair? its starting to look greasy. so far ive just put plain water on it.

misskatamari · 16/02/2014 04:48

We have done bare - with some Johnson's baby shampoo. Only done it a few times tho, not every day, whilst she's still so little with sensitive skin

jazzcat28 · 16/02/2014 05:58

I've got 5 day check with mw today so will see what she thinks about trying bf with ff.

Had a blissful night so far with approx 3-4hrs between feeds! In fact so blissful I've got up and premixed a bottle ready for her 6ish feed - can't quite believe how prepared I feel!

We gave her her first "bath" last night with a tiny drop of Johnson's baby wash in it. Wasn't really a bath more a full head to toe naked jaunt with cotton wool and a small bit of water. DH had to take charge as I couldn't bend with my scar. He was sweating buckets by the end if it - poor guy was petrified of dropping/hurting her and to make it an even more intense experience my parents were watching too!

We all survived though and going to contemplate doing a bath every other evening perhaps until she's a bit bigger.

Thisisfreakingmeout · 16/02/2014 06:38

It's been a long night. Full

Thisisfreakingmeout · 16/02/2014 06:40

Gah! Clumsy posting!

Full on feeding from 2.20 - 4.30 then 5.45 and still going.

She keeps falling asleep on boob. This cannot go on!

EeyoreIsh · 16/02/2014 06:47

Morning all, just found this thread, can't believe we're mummies already Grin

Had a long night. Little one woke every three hours for a feed which is great, except it took at least 90 minutes to do each feed as she had lots of wet nappies and wind. She still hasn't done a poo, bless her.

She's currently snoring on the boob and DH is snoring on the other side Hmm

barebranches · 16/02/2014 10:39

used johnsons misskat... dh wanted to use haead and shoulders because she has greasy hair like him. erm..
no dh! Grin

EeyoreIsh · 16/02/2014 22:50

gah, I'm struggling already this evening :( dd has been feeding since 5.30, she won't settle and she keeps fussing when feeding which means I've got really sore nipples. She's currently swaddled and in the cot, but she's not happy and I know in going to end up feeding her again.

If we had formula in the house I would be giving her that. It's so difficult sometimes. I don't know why she's so unsettled, it could be because she's still not done a poo, but she has done lots of farts so I don't think it's wind.

In other news, I have the debrief about my birth tomorrow. Not sure how I feel about it, it'll be good to get some clarity but it will bring everything up again.

misskatamari · 16/02/2014 23:12

Lol bare the head and shoulders made me chuckle! I need to do a bath and hair wash tomorrow as not washed it for a few days. I read in my baby book before that at this age you only need to wash hair weekly and not to use many bath products as skin is so sensitive etc.

Eeyore you must be shattered already, I hope she let's you get some rest tonight. My little lady has been less of a gannet this evening however it's now time for bed so I'm anticipating a wake up and mega feed. I've put a microwave heat thingy in the cosleeper to warm it up and try and trick her into thinking she's still on me but we shall see how that goes. I hope your debrief goes well tomorrow. I know it might be hard to go through it all again but it will be for the best to help put anything traumatic to bed hopefully x

Morning all, just found you amd checking in. After two nights of non stop panic feeding from Elyssa she's been super sleepy and managed two hours in the crib. Now I'm worried she is too sleepy. Argh there is no pleasing worried mummies!

Hope the debrief goes well eeyorish sounds like it will be a good idea to process it as you are so out of things in labour...

misskatamari · 17/02/2014 10:56

I know the feeling winter - I seem to worry about everything now!Smile Just remember the mantra - if they're doing plenty of wet and dirty nappies they're fine. Seems to be the advice everyone gives as a baby being okay bench mark x

OP posts:
barebranches · 17/02/2014 22:55

definatly with u with the worry. even walking down the stairs with her makes me worried.

baby bare is so not sleepy tonight and has been awake a lot all day.. sleep little bare!!! :)

misskatamari · 17/02/2014 22:59

Baby Katamari Is also awake. She's having a feed with occasional poo dance interruptions. We're trying her in her sleeping bag tonight as she keeps kicking off blankets altho if previous evenings are anything to go by she'll end up cosleeping for a bit so that we can get some kip! I hope yours nods off soon x

OP posts:
barebranches · 18/02/2014 01:05

she did nod off but back up again.
i slowly starting to realise that a full night sleep is something i may never have again...i love sleep Sad
love my tiny one more though!Grin

Thisisfreakingmeout · 18/02/2014 18:12

bare I am trying to retrain myself about sleep. It isn't about night and day, just cumulative hours so if you get an hour at 2 pm that is just as valid as the missed hour at 2am. It is so hard to remember that in the depths of the night.

I am not sure I have realised I really can stay on bed all day if I want!

winterflowers · 18/02/2014 19:47

So true thisis it's all about what you can get in 24 hrs. amazing how quickly you can get used to new 'routines' 5am never used to exist for me and now we are best friends. Her feeding face makes it all ok I can't help laughing at it. Then crying a little as she is so wonderful and I am so hormonal lol

CubanoHabana · 18/02/2014 22:59

Quick random question, when dies the cord usually fall off? I'm paranoid about catching it when I change baby cubano's nappies and hurting him!

jazzcat28 · 18/02/2014 23:39

cubano I think each baby is different re cord - DD celebrated her 1 wk birthday today by shedding her cord but I think some hang onto it longer and my mw said she has known others to lose it on day 4.

winter im also hormonal and teary - cried at the words inside a card we received from a neighbour this morning! Also feeling so much love and admiration for DH... He melts my heart the way he is with her and how concerned he gets when he can't settle her.

EeyoreIsh · 19/02/2014 00:10

cubano we lost it on the morning of day 4. But I think that's quite early. I hope you have a better night's feeding.
