Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

I heart Daddy is a fab plan, I might try that with M and the big two, too - got time before Sunday, right?!

Although DS1 has already given daddy the Hama bead coaster he made for him - let's hope preschool have pulled out all the stops and he brings something else home on Friday! :o

pinkbear82 · 10/06/2014 21:05

Sunny, I'm only bothering so I can honestly say to dd I tried for her sake. He still takes the biscuit for knob of a life time Grin

SunnyL · 11/06/2014 22:43

This time a year ago I was off my head on codeine praying that my baby would make an appearance soon. Shame she made me wait so long as she's a little smasher Smile

Awww Sunny. Isn't funny how our minds play the "this time last year" thing!

This time last year I was having a short break from contractions (they started on the 11th and kicked off again mid morning on the 12th...DS finally arrived on the 13th). I spent around 5hrs of the 12th sitting in the bath at home while DH looked nervously at me and brought me regular snacks and drinks Grin

SunnyL · 12/06/2014 10:41

Yep right about now I kept being woken up by nurses and doctors as they tried to extract the placenta from me. But as I'd been in labour for 65 hours and hadn't slept I kept falling asleep and snoring through the important medical chat. Wink

Grin Sunny! (though not at the time I expect)

Round about now I was being transfered in an ambulance to hospital B, hospital A suffering from "no room at the inn". The very chatty ambulance man was trying to reassure me that at least it wasn't hospital C (around 35-40miles away) Confused

SweetPeaPods · 12/06/2014 22:41

A year ago today I started my first contractions. They stopped around 2am after a long bath. They then started again the next night to stop again. And the next....
Went into hospital exactly a week after first contraction, to be induced due to high bp but didn't need to as 4 cm ! Ds born day after on actual due date

SunnyL · 17/06/2014 07:07

God I feel rubbish today. Been running a fever all night and have a sore back so think I might have a kidney infection.

its Lily's last set of injections today. It's only a problem if she is sick not me yes?

MaryWestmacott · 17/06/2014 07:10

Sunny, should be ok.

Mrs81 · 17/06/2014 17:12

How are you feeling now Sunny? Hope you both survived the immunisations!

DS has had a total nap fail and.has been awake for 6+hrs. Tonight could go either way couldn't it? Either over tiredness means a sh**e night or he'll sleep like a log. Fingers are crossed...

BeanCalledPickle · 17/06/2014 18:58

We had the chicken pox vaccination at the weekend. She walked it off remarkably quickly! Deffo recommend getting it!

SunnyL · 17/06/2014 19:14

Yeah feeling better. I did go into work but gave up and came home as my clothes were ringing wet from my fever. She coped very well with her jabs though. Course it helps that she got her next book bug installment so I bribed her with a new book.Wink

Bean do you have to pay for the vaccination and does it cover them for life?

AlohaMama · 17/06/2014 19:27

Am interested to know about the pox vaccine too. Its given as standard in the US which means DS is immunised but DD so far not.

Sorry you're sick sunny, hope you're better soon.

Am starting to think that trying to let DD (who is lightest sleeper in the world, screams herself to sleep for a long time and wakes at the crack of dawn) sleep in DS's room tonight may not be best idea. In putting DS to bed, quiet as mice, we woke her up and she's now screaming while he tries to sleep, plus he's in his 'I don't want to go to bed mummy' phase right now. Still if it works, might make life easier with visitors in future. When will this 12 month old get easier/stop screaming when she goes to sleep/wakes up/when I walk away/put her down/stop spitting food out/smearing it in her hair/stop eating shoes/stay still for one minute so i can put on nappy/clothes/letme carry her without her trying to wriggle out of my grasp. Am realising I was incredibly blessed with my easy DS.

Right rant over off to get a Wine

BeanCalledPickle · 17/06/2014 20:09

Aloha I reckon yours is channeling mine. Absolute menace. We are going to majorca on Sunday. Plane is going to be great fun I reckon.

So, chicken pox. Personal choice and all that but I reckon worth saving her the misery. Two jabs. 120 quid each. Perfectly safe. Routine every where else but the NHS won't fund it as chicken pox isn't a major problem, though of course it can be for some children. In theory it's effective for good but the vaccine hasn't been round long enough to know.

There are definiently no downsides to the individual child being vaccinated. Problem is more for society; we all get regular immune boosts because chicken pox is around, preventing us from getting shingles. If all children were vaccinated we wouldn't get the boost and might get shingles. That's what's happening in the states etc where it's routine to vaccinate.

So in summary if you want to spare your children the pox and can afford it then it's a good thing. But if everyone does it as well it's a bad thing!

SweetPeaPods · 17/06/2014 20:11

Mrs81 we are the same. Over tiredness is not good fun. Ds is exhausted, but will not go to sleep. He will happily climb, crawl, roll about. Put him on his back and he screams. DH is up there now as I've had enough. I've just had to go up and tell them to settle down though, far too much giggling for bed time. DH thinks it will tire him out?!

Ds might have had chicken pox , we're not sure. If he did it was very mild. Not got mmr jab booked in yet, I better chase it up. Got our 1 year review next week.

AlohaMama · 17/06/2014 20:30

Interesting on the pox/shingles aspect Bean. Maybe I'll leave as is then. With DS having been vaccinated that will reduce the chances of bringing it home. Also, Bean, if you have any tips for management of aforementioned menace-babies feel free to send them my way! And good luck with the flight...

HungryHorace · 17/06/2014 20:38

We have a sleep-refusing monkey here too. I'm hoping it's just teething unsettling her. She's gone from a 1.5-2 hour morning nap to a screaming refuser who needs rocking to sleep and only sleeps for 40-50 minutes. :-/

She does then have 90 minutes in the afternoon and goes without a murmur. God knows what's going on.

Oh, and since we last discussed nappy changing antics, she's turned into a madam there too. Flipping over and crawling off whilst covered in poo from evil teething nappies. Took both of us to sort her out on Sat night. That can't be right!!

She appears to be self-weaning from formula. Is this normal? She is eating more (and makes cute 'nam nam nam' noises if she likes what she's eating!). :-) It's good timing though as it's meant to be milk from next week.

I have lactose free milk in and am getting a pint of normal milk too, so we can start the challenge we have to do with her to see if she can cope with milk.

She eats (and loves) fromage frais, without a bad response, so I'm hoping milk will be ok too.

Anyone else have to suffer tantrums when you say no / retrieve something from your child? I didn't expect anything like it so early!

SweetPeaPods · 17/06/2014 21:32

Hungry yes we have those tantrums!! It's like the terrible twos already. This evening I took his empty bowl away cue meltdown. He really likes what ever I have or using ATM and it's a battle to get it off him. I'm really torn whether to just let him have it and choose my battles, or stand my ground.

BeanCalledPickle · 17/06/2014 22:03

Nursery has totally messed up her sleep. Bloody nightmare. She sleeps well here in nice quiet room. At nursery not so much. Comes home virtually catatonic!

Polly pretty much weaned herself off milk now. She's been on cows milk for a while due to parental reluctance to faff with formula! You going to start BFing this time HH or has last time put you off?

HungryHorace · 17/06/2014 22:56

I'll try BF again. Just because it didn't work last time (and I'd have had to give up with the lactose thing anyway) doesn't mean it won't work this time.

And hopefully I'll be more relaxed about it, and we will get a better start with skin to skin straight away rather than DD being in a different part of the hospital to me for 4 hours.

Not good re the sleep. Hopefully it's just a case of getting used to it.

SunnyL · 18/06/2014 08:17

Oh yes the tantrums are HILARIOUS! It's particularly my phone, my keys or my iPad that she wants and will scream the place down if I try York retrieve them. Teensy bit embarrassing delivering her to nursery with tears on her cheeks because I had to use the keys to lock the front door.

We give her the remote controls with the batteries removed so she doesn't keep changing the TV channel!

OP posts:
HungryHorace · 18/06/2014 09:01

Yes to phone and iPad. She's allowed my phone as it's old and being replaced soon. She's not allowed the iPad!

We sometimes get into a tug of war as she's so strong. Not great!

She also finds all sorts of interesting menus on the TV with the remotes.

We are having a birthday BBQ on Sunday. Thankfully the weather looks good for it. :-) Can't believe how fast this year has gone.

MaryWestmacott · 18/06/2014 09:08

DD has taken to arranging herself on the floor first, then shouting if she doesn't get her own way. tis rather sweet really.

hedgehogy · 18/06/2014 10:25

Good idea removing the batteries from the remote control - why didn't I think of that?! We also have strange things happening to the TV if DD plays with it. She has the fisher price remote control which she loves but if the sky remote control is nearby then it's no substitute.

Glad you're feeling better, Sunny.

I've been considering giving DD the chickenpox vaccine too. I had it horribly and would like to prevent that if I can. Will need to read up more though as I vaguely remember reading that they could still get it as an adult (when it's worse) if they have it this young? I'm guessing that's not an issue in the US if everyone is immunised as standard?

DD's naps vary wildly from day to day now. She went off without a murmur at 9.30am and will probably sleep for an hour or two with another nap in the afternoon. But some days she fights tiredness till about 11am.

I took DD to be weighed out of interest as there's no development check here (and to add to her baby record book); she's still following the 91st line perfectly!

HH, hope it works for you this time :) . I going to be more laid back next time. It took a lot of time for my milk to come in after the section and DD lost a lot of weight (still under 10%) and it was a stressful time, with regular weigh ins etc. Even though the midwife was supportive I felt a lot of (too much) pressure. But she eventually started to gain and rejoined her line. Losing weight is normal (and she was a big baby!) so I'll be more relaxed about it next time.

I'm still feeding DD four times a day (morning, before bed and before her naps) and I think that both of our families think that's a bit odd. However the HV said that I can carry on with that many feeds for as long as I like which has made me feel better about it.

DD isn't allowed my ipad or phone. If she's feeding and I'm on my ipad, she'll swipe her hands backwards on purpose and has managed to teach me new tricks by doing this (eg switching from an app to safari in one swipe!). She can't have my phone either as its far too easy to call people on it.

Did all the Father's Day photos work out?

SweetPeaPods · 18/06/2014 11:02

Remote control minus batteries doesn't work here. He just throws the remote away as it doesn't work!!
