Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

Oh, DD slept through massive sneezing fits last week. Can't sleep with a bunged up nose though and she's really snotty now with a cold. :-/

hedgehogy · 13/05/2014 07:49

Thanks for that chart, HH - oh dear, it looks a regression is coming up.

DD has had a bunged up nose too but she breathes through her mouth when it's bunged up now so it hasn't been a problem. She just snores loudly. Unlike when she was ill at six months old and was still trying to breathe through her nose - that was a nightmare!

SweetPeaPods · 13/05/2014 10:43

We're still in stage 1 seat. Started researching next stage and hope to keep him rear facing for as long as possible. The new iSize guide sounds good but the rear facing seats are more expensive, and we need 3!! My MiL completely disagrees with keeping him rear facing so don't really trust her at the minute to use the seat we buy her but we'll see. I don't think he'll be rearfacing to 4 but hopefully as long as we can get away with. His little brother or sister will be rear facing next to him so hope that keeps him happy!
It's the first of my nct groups birthdays this week. I can't believe our babies are not really babies any more!!

MaryWestmacott · 13/05/2014 12:51

we're still stage 1 too. I'm hoping DD lasts a little longer in it, because I think DS will need to move up to a high backed booster seat soon and she can have his seat (which will be forward facing).

With all my horror at the return journey from North London at the weekend, I completely forgot to tell you the hilarious bit of other mother judging I was subjected too. We were there for a 4th birthday party, so lots of party food for the little ones. I put DD in their high chair and gave her a cream cheese finger sandwich, which she happily munched on. Another mother very loudly commented that "isn't she a little young to be eating wheat?" in a tone of voice that suggested I'd just handed my baby a can of stella. I smiled and said (also loudly) "gosh, you tend to be a lot less uptight about this sort of things with your second." and gave her my "superior mother" smile. (At this point the party hostess started loudly commenting that the bread was organic in a panicked sort of way...)

sooo glad I don't have to deal with too many "competitive mummies" round here!

SunnyL · 13/05/2014 12:59

Good retort Mary. I'd have found it tough to think of anything smarter than f* off - but then I'm Scottish Wink

Yesterday at swimming I was being asked advice by another mum about development. I fely so chuffed to be asked as if I might know something about babies. Clearly she couldn't see how much of an amateur I am and that I'm making it up as I go along. I tried to make myself sound knowledgeable but she probably saw through that when lily tried to crawl head first into the pool Shock

oh I was thinking "fuck off" !

hedgehogy · 13/05/2014 17:57

I'd be even more annoyed because there's nothing wrong with giving wheat at this age - NHS advice is just to avoid it before six months. Did she even realise how old your baby is?

BeanCalledPickle · 13/05/2014 18:42

I always feel smug when polly knocks through a full meal with no fuss whatsoever in front of babies who still won't feed themselves. I got a lot of grief for being so maverick and baby led weaning that I'm always delighted to demonstrate how well it's paid off when their babies won't eat anything unless it's fed to them. My SIL in particular told me she thought it was neglectful when her own child will only eat a certain type of pasta and only with the correct amount of cheese. Every day Smile

pinkbear82 · 14/05/2014 10:18

Ghost thought feeding babies could cause so much fuss! Was out for lunch the other day, with a male friend who has two girls... Got Violet's food out and popped her bib on, let her get on with it. Catch friend looking in changing bag, asked what was up, and he said he was looking for her spoon... I laughed and said she'll be fine. He looked quite puzzled. Think it sunk in more when dd stole some of his lunch too!!

Mind you, have given up now when people ask where she is at work, have settled on 'at home with the dog, luckily the dog likes baby food and dd has gotten good at lapping water out the bowl...'

SunnyL · 15/05/2014 19:43

Urgh what a day. Thank goodness for wine. Cheers Wink

Well, M's birthday presents are all wrapped up and ready for the morning. Can't believe he's turning one, where has the last year gone?!

HungryHorace · 16/05/2014 07:07

Happy birthday, M! :-)

Scary how quickly a year goes.

MaryWestmacott · 16/05/2014 07:19

Happy birthday M! A year!?! A year has gone? How did that happen?

My little girl is pretty much walking (8 steps at the weekend), we've basically done the baby thing. Sad

So birthday cakes, I'm I going to go crazy if I try to make this ? I would put a "1" candle on the top instead. Not sure if it's going to make me crazy, might just do 1 tier...

SunnyL · 16/05/2014 07:33

Happy birthday M! Goodness me though - 1 years old. DH keeps saying its only 17 years til she leaves home and wonders why I got all teary.

Mary that's a lovely cake that's totally doable. Go for it

Mrs81 · 16/05/2014 18:56

Happy happy birthday M! Hope the day has gone well Grin

SweetPeaPods · 16/05/2014 19:11

Happy Birthday M hope you had a good day celebrating!
F isn't even 11m yet, so scary thought!

AlohaMama · 16/05/2014 19:56

1 year already, wow!! Happy Birthday x

Mary that cake is great. If it seems a bit daunting, how about just doing 1 layer?

Right ladies, ideas please. Anyone got good ideas for birthday presents for dd. Trouble is she has all her older brothers toys and books. I was thinking of something they could play with together. Wanted to get garden toys but cna't really as we'll probably move within a year, so would rather wait till we're settled. The only thing I could think of was a ball pit. Any other suggestions?

RueDeWakening · 16/05/2014 20:16

M has got a little tikes car transporter (it's massive!), a wooden pull along dog, a klik klak track, and some new clothes so far Smile and some bubbles, story books etc from a couple of my friends.

He's had a fab day, will post a pic in a bit when I'm on the computer.

RueDeWakening · 16/05/2014 20:43

Here he is :o

hedgehogy · 16/05/2014 21:16

Happy birthday M! I'm glad he had a good day. He's adorable!

Olimoss · 17/05/2014 08:01

Rue - congrats! He's so cute!! Hope you have an amazing day with your family.

Been reading the thread for first time since I last posted - thank you all for your kind wishes regards the wedding and Joe's most recent op. You're all so lovely....

We moved him to a bigger car seat about two months ago and I can highly recommend the Britax one which spins and swivels. It can also fave backwards or forwards ... We are keeping him backwards as long as we can, he seems very happy in the car.

AlohaMama · 17/05/2014 19:02

What a cute picture Rue. Loving the elf bib (I assume? Or did you actually dress him as an elf for his birthday??!)
