Hi all - the old thread was about to run out so I started a new one.

Little Miss was up to mischief last night. Thankfully it's DHs day off today so he took her into bed with him while I slept in the spare room. She is just so excitable when she wakes up at night. It can can 90 minutes to scrape her off the ceiling.

I always fancied a pop up trailer tent, saw one while we were camping in the us that had a shower. We were in our two man tunnel tent and washing in a river so were very jealous! First camping holiday of this year is in 3 weeks. Hurrah.

HungryHorace · 06/05/2014 08:16

Sounds fantastic, Sunny :-)

Camping isn't my idea of fun, it has to be said. DH likes it though, so as long as we choose a good site I shall suffer it once the kids are older. I'm certainly not going while pregnant! I'd need winching to upright in the morning!

Glad it's a short week this week it has to be said. I can't wait to finish work again. :-)

Mrs81 · 06/05/2014 13:14

Hungry - have you come across the Cool Camping books? They're guides to quirky/nice/often family friendly campsites around the UK. There's an English one, a Scottish one, etc.

We used to go camping - and enjoyed it - but I think it will be a while before we go again. As it is, we don't seem to be able to go out for half a day without packing the kitchen sink.

curlyclaz13 · 06/05/2014 14:17

We have parents evening tonight! No idea what happens at parents evening at this age, not too much I imagine. Any one got a biter and any tips to stop it? Oscar has started biting us, I have a bruise on my arm from yesterday, not sure if it is teeth related?

HungryHorace · 06/05/2014 17:37

I haven't, Mrs, I'll look out for them.

And I agree re the packing. We will need a truck when number 2 comes along!

SunnyL · 06/05/2014 18:36

We've got a biter too. Actually make that I've got a biter. The little ratbag only seems to find me tasty.

No idea what you're meant to do. It's always taken me by surprise and been flipping sore so I've screamed and she's started crying.

When she starts biting other kids I'll worry about it.Wink

I have that camping book! My heart is set on the site on the scilly isles but would be impossible if you can't ge the car/trailer/roofbox there.

Ouch curly. E went through a thankfully very short phase of biting my nipple when feeding, usually when she was loosing interest. She seemed to find me screaming out NO very funny. Haven't got any particular tips, maybe just make sure he's always got something to chew? They do start understanding no at this age (sometimes) but sometimes ignoring it might be better. Depends if it's teething related versus enjoying the reaction of mummy screaming.

curlyclaz13 · 06/05/2014 20:38

Parents evening was quite sweet, his key worker explained his progress book and that he has settled really well and is a happy little boy who is becoming independent. She thinks biting is probably teething and fairly common.

curlyclaz13 · 06/05/2014 20:40

Posted too soon.biting when feeding was easier to deal with, unlatch him, say no and put boon away for a little bit. Can't do that with my arm! Will try putting him down when he does it next with a firm no.

HungryHorace · 06/05/2014 21:49

Aloha, the Isles of Scilly are awesome. I camped there with the school many (many, many) moons ago!

I'm sure we had our minibus with us. Maybe I'm forgetting.

RueDeWakening · 07/05/2014 21:45

OMG OMG OMG. M took his first steps all by his very own self this afternoon :o OK so it was only 2, then 3 a bit later for Daddy (who wasn't watching Hmm) but still :o

Re biting, M does this too, but only when he's a bit ratty from teething so I've put it down to that. Bloody kills though!

Mrs81 · 07/05/2014 22:00

That's so exciting Rue! Grin Grin There must be something in the air...DS crawled forward for the first time today. I'm so chuffed but now need to do some serious baby proofing. Yikes.

AlohaMama · 08/05/2014 11:01

Congrats Rue that's really exciting. Though isn't that like the official end of babydom/start of toddlerhood?? Sad

Sunbeam18 · 08/05/2014 11:45

Woohoo, well done Michael! What age is he now, Rue (so I can work out how long I've got left!!)

RueDeWakening · 08/05/2014 19:19

He's going to be 1 a week tomorrow ShockShockShockShockShock

And I'm quite sad at his impending toddlerhood actually. Hey ho.

AlohaMama · 08/05/2014 21:17

Has anyone else had their 8-12 month review yet? We had ours today. Was fine but a bit pointless. They're so keen for you to be able to do the specific tasks on the questionnaire. E doesn't do pat-a-cake or peekabo so apparently I have play those games with her Hmm. Or not. I'm sure she'll communicate when she's good and ready, whether she can clap her hands on command or not.

curlyclaz13 · 08/05/2014 22:26

We had our check just before Easter, our Hv is lovely and was very cynical about the form!I have never played pat-a-cake either, he does clap on demand though. She had a chat with me and measured Oscar and said everything was fine then we discussed breast milk as a cure for conjunctivitis and the importance of children having eye tests, as a lot of people don't bother but do go to the dentist.

RueDeWakening · 08/05/2014 22:29

We have waving on demand (well, it's a bit hit and miss but mostly...). But he didn't smack two bricks together when the HV gave them to him - in fact he tried to stuff both of them in his mouth instead :o - he didn't clap (and still hasn't) either.

I can't remember what else happened, I wasn't paying that much attention tbh Blush

hedgehogy · 08/05/2014 23:13

Wow, Rue!

No checks here at all unless you have a problem and request one.

Oops we've never done pat a cake. DD will wave but not clap properly (she keeps one hand still and claps the other one with it) or bang things together.

Still no teeth!

HungryHorace · 09/05/2014 08:20

We had our check. DH didn't tell me whether they'd asked about pat-a-cake and peekaboo. I know she asked about blowing raspberries, clapping, picking things up with pincer fingers and a few other bits which DD demonstrated to her, as if she knew what was being asked!

We only have 2 bloody teeth and constant, wearing, teething symptoms. Plus a cold.

I don't think we are far off walking. She considers it sometimes, but then chooses to hold on to something or crawl instead.

We were referred to the GP for uneven leg creases and she referred us to a consultant, so we are now under 3 different people for a baby I wouldn't say was sickly! At least everything is getting looked at though.

MaryWestmacott · 09/05/2014 09:04

No checks here either, but then I've not been to the HV for about 4 months. I probably should go... although most mums I know who went back to work went back around 8months, probably why they don't bother with them.

DD has decided that she doesn't do sleeping in her cot.

Am trying to geer myself up for tomorrow, I have to drive up to north london to a friend's DD's birthday party, and DH is away. Last time I did the drive alone, DD screamed during the whole 2 hours we were crawling around the M25, she doesn't do long car journeys, really not looking forward to it... anyone else got a rubbish traveller?

Mrs81 · 09/05/2014 10:09

Good luck tomorrow Mary... We have a fairly crap traveller too. The best way I've got round it is to time it with naps. Not always practical though. I'm hoping that when he upgrades to the next car seat and can see out of the window then things may improve. It's not helped that he hardly ever goes in the car and so it's not that familiar to him.

This crawling business is exhausting (for us both). He loves to play with doors, which plays with my nerves. And he's already got his fingers stuck in the catflap. Twice.

Right, best dash, he's shouting!

hedgehogy · 09/05/2014 10:35

DD isn't a great traveller either, we also have to try and time journeys with naps.

We have two three hour journeys (longer with stops) tomorrow which I'm not looking forward to. We'll get up, I'll feed her, then we'll give her breakfast. She'll then be ready for a nap so will hopefully sleep for a chunk of the journey.

It doesn't always work though - last time she screamed for nearly an hour before she fell asleep. I could do nothing to calm her down (without boob!) and there was nowhere to stop as we were in a traffic jam. Nightmare.

Hope your journey goes ok.

MaryWestmacott · 09/05/2014 11:19

I'm going to leave after lunch (it's a 2pm - 4pm party), so might be there early or late, but hopefully she'll be sleepy. Then on the way back, I've asked if we can hang around and leave more like 6:30pm ish so she might sleep in the car...

Sunbeam18 · 09/05/2014 16:16

We had 8 steps today!!!! That's walking, isn't it??!!!
