We have pretty bad cradle cap at 12 weeks. My current solution is to ignore it. If we still have it in a month I might start the olive oil treatment. I've heard applying aqueous cream can help too.

Thepurplegiraffe · 14/01/2014 17:12

We bought the cradle cap shampoo. It's pretty cheap and seems to be working.

FeministInTraining · 14/01/2014 20:09

Sorry to hear the harness is causing upset Giraffe, fx LO gets used to it soon.

Congratulations Slippy, I know what you mean about reading mode. When I went in to work last week to show off R one of my old tutees asked me to look at her personal statement (cheeky!) and I had to read the same paragraph about 3 times. I need to practice concentrating, my excuse is that I never get a chance to anymore so I've forgotten how to!

We had horrendous cradle cap at about 5/6 weeks. Scaly forehead. Kept using olive oil or coconut oil on it and gently rubbing the loose bits off with an olive oil soaked flannel. Once his forehead was clear we used the shampoo on his (thick and curly) hair and regularly combed flakes out. The worst is gone now, but he still has what looks like bad dandruff. We've gone back to using mum&me mild shampoo as it seems a bit more moisturising and I think the cradle cap shampoo has done as much as it can. Coconut oil smells much better than olive oil IMO so we still use it now. It's not bothering him though so I'm not bothered by it anymore.

Dairy free, soya free cheese... Never again

AnythingNotEverything · 14/01/2014 21:33

Feminist - I like the idea of coconut oil. Can you buy it in Boots? Is it solid at room temp? Sounds much nicer than olive oil. Do you just rub it I and wash it out later?

FeministInTraining · 14/01/2014 21:56

Anything, I bought a jar in a local health shop but you can get it in Holland and Barrett. We got one you can eat, it's solid but melts quickly in your hands, and I use it after his evening bath and in the mornings. You only use a tiny bit, the massive jar I got will probably last until he leaves home!

roxvox · 14/01/2014 23:34

xuntitledx I may have spoken too soon as she's doubled her feeding time again today! She was also screaming whenever I put her down which, being home alone all day, means I got a good workout in my arms! Maybe she will be feeding less but this is some new growth spurt. After a couple of nights of good sleep we were back to waking every 2 hours again (which we had 3 nights of last week too). Very odd.

Is it just my baby or do you all seem to use the phrase "I think it must be a growth spurt" almost daily?!

slippy dreaming of milk stealing made me laugh! A occasionally wakes up crying or cries in her sleep and I often wonder if it's something like that too!

I got my coconut oil from Tesco. Worked wonders on a rash I had when everything the doc gave me failed!

xuntitledx · 15/01/2014 22:20

Cradle cap here too...the dentinox shampoo has worked a treat though!

Thepurplegiraffe · 16/01/2014 04:21

Roxvox I know what you mean about "growth spurt". It has been my explanation for things on many occasions.

Bit of a better day here. Managed to get C to have a decent nap which made so much difference. If only she would do that every day!

Slippysnow · 16/01/2014 16:10

I wasn't sure about the detinox shampoo it seemed to increase the cradle cap for c. Unless it was just making it flakier in the healing process, I'll give it another go i think.

I'm starting to worry about him today because he's slept more than he's been awake, when he woke up he grizzled then fed an went back to sleep. He's only just woke up from his latest sleep, he seems happier now. He's got a cold so I'm wondering if it's related to that. Is this normal behaviour? :s

Thepurplegiraffe · 17/01/2014 23:32

Slippy is he any better?

Slippysnow · 18/01/2014 11:03

giraffe the day he slept most of the day he slept from 10pm to 5pm aswell. I was so shocked. He's been a little less sleepy but still has a runny nose, cough and sneeze etc. His BCg looks infected like how mine reacted but I was 15 and he's 12 weeks so must be far worse for him.

How is everyone else?

Slippysnow · 18/01/2014 13:30

Sorry 10pm - 5am

moonblues · 18/01/2014 15:51

I've missed you guys. Been too busy with real life to MN. However today baby C is having a growth spurt (read feeding frenzy) and have managed to catch up.

slippy hope he's feeling better.

giraffe sorry to hear about the harness.

I've been using olive oil on cradle cap and then rubbing it with a towel after a bath to loosen it off. It's now looking pretty clear.

It's interesting to hear all your routines. Daytime naps at the moment are in the car seat or pram and at the school/nursery run, so 9, 12 & 3. He tends to sleep for an hour, though sometimes would sleep longer, but I feel I need to change and feed him before leaving the house again or he'll be starving by the time we get home. The poor thing is just having to fit in and is regularly getting fed on the balcony at the swimming pool whilst the other 2 are having their lessons.

Am inspired by all the earlier chat to try to get him into his cot at nighttime. At the moment we are still co-sleeping, which means I'm getting a decent amount of sleep, but it would be nice to get evenings back. Hmm. Need to set the cot up first. He doesn't seem to like the moses basket...

thethreeblondies · 18/01/2014 21:47

Feminist my Grandma was advised to eat coconut oil to help her memory Wink

Hope you ladies over here are ok, sorry I've been neglecting the thread, same happened when DD's were born, all got hectic!

I've got another one who naps around school run, then wakes up grumpy in Asda! He gets really confused at wkends and naps more little and often, he's gone through a few nights this week, not sure what he'll do tonight after the funny napping though xx

OrangeBlossom2 · 21/01/2014 09:42

Here's a link to uses for coconut oil someone on fb gave me (might have been you blondies?)

AnythingNotEverything · 21/01/2014 14:10

I love our coconut oil. Got a small tub for £1.99 in a local chemists. So far I've used it on DD's cradle cap once (starting to clear) and on her neck and under arm rash. I think it has magical properties Smile

moonblues · 21/01/2014 14:15

I'm going to have to give coconut oil a try. Probably smells nicer than olive oil. :)

shs25 · 22/01/2014 18:23

Hello everyone,

i have just stumbled across your thread following countless 'sleep' related google searches.... I have a 12 week old little girl, who whilst gorgeous, has been a little bit of a handful along the way! Reading the thread it seems she has a similar personality to perhaps a couple of other little ones here, which has been reassuring to discover! Initially she couldn't cope with being put down, at all, including for sleeping! So spent nearly every minute being carried and sleeping in bed with me. We have moved on a bit and she will now spend time in her bouncer or on a play mat. However, sleep remains a real battle, and getting her to nap in the day is near impossible without lots of hysterical screaming..... Anyway, hence the google searches trying to find an answer!

Coming across this thread has already been ever so helpful, and restored a piece of my sanity! Therefore I was wondering if I might join you?

OrangeBlossom2 · 22/01/2014 20:11

Hello shs welcome. Smile no answer on daytime naps but with you on the Velcro baby for the first few weeks who is now happy in hair/play mat/bednest at night. He started taking naps in his bouncy chair a couple of weeks ago (11 weeks) but not at set times/under my control. I hope your little girl does the same soon. No advice but sometimes it helps to know y aren't alone

Shirehobbit · 22/01/2014 20:30

Hello SHS Smile and welcome.
I have a totally sleep averse baby. I think I breezed (relatively speaking) through the first 3 months in a haze of hormones and baby love.
Now at 15-16 weeks, I'm beginning to fray at the edges. He is sleeping a little more in the day, extending his cat naps from 5-10 mins to 20-30, but we are still on a 2hrly schedule through the night. Frazzled!

AnythingNotEverything · 22/01/2014 20:38

Hi SHS and welcome! I have no advice really on the sleeping. DD is a good sleeper. No idea what I did to deserve it so can't advise.

Some people like a sling?

shs25 · 23/01/2014 18:26

Thanks so much for the welcome guys, and the advice. I did buy a sling, but made the mistake of choosing one that only faces inwards, which sods law little one hates, ho hum.... Hoping it's just a phase and things will improve on their own... In the meantime I will continue to scour the internet in the hope of finding the magic wand answer?!

I see that most people are now using Facebook - is that's better place to chat? And if so would it be too forward to ask to join you there?

shs25 · 23/01/2014 18:31

P.s. Shirehobbit; how an earth are you coping? They sound like identical babies! The 20 minutes nap we do get is preceded by 40 minutes of battling! Are you / have you tried to change things, or just hoping it will gradually improve? It's so confusing.... I feel so terrible some days as I just can't enjoy little miss from being so exhausted and frustrated Sad

Flyer747 · 26/01/2014 23:21
