pinkbuttons and untitled feeding to sleep here too, and not looking to change it any time soon as it's the way it works for us!

pinkbuttons on the second attempt she kept looking over and smiling at me, but I left her in there until she cried. Third attempt was the shortest of the lot as she actually stayed asleep when I put her in (yay!) but woke after 2 minutes (boo) and although I was hopeful she might fall back asleep again with her eyes all drowsy looking she actually just started to cry so she was back in bed with me again. I feel some slight progress, but it is tiring! Got jabs on Friday and family staying over weekend so that will no doubt screw it all up!

chickienio easier said than done - but don't feel down about it! Maybe have a couple of nights off trying and then start again on Monday?

I've just remembered a Christmas present we received from a friend - a 'My First Christmas' onesie in size 18-24 months! A very thoughtful gift, but I am surprised that the manufacturers even make a 'FIRST Christmas' outfit in that size!

Ahh guys, if feeding to sleep is what works for now then just go with it, it won't last forever. They change so quickly, even if you get a good routine going they suddenly decide that doesn't work for them anymore and you start all over again anyway not bitter that dd was sleeping through and now isn't!

BowlFullofJelly · 08/01/2014 14:52

Regarding things I have bought that I regret, not much this time around, although bumbo, nappy bin and bath support were the biggest waste of money first time around. I also have a tonne of clothes in newborn and 0-3 months which have never been worn - all gifts, and I am about to hand onto a friend for her baby not to wear haha. I've started to dress DD in 'proper' clothes now occasionally but such a faff.

Slippysnow · 08/01/2014 16:52

How funny bowlfull I love my Tt sangenic nappy bin- it's a life saver for me in a flat but can see it being an unnecessary expense if I didn't.

As for feeding to sleep I kind of presumed everyone did it be it bottle or breast. I suppose because it works so well for us haven't thought to question. He can wake up on transfer which is frustrating when I just want to sleep.

I always think I should mention c is my only child so what may work for me may not work for a mum from a larger family who needs their energy!!

Mnippy · 08/01/2014 19:04

Checking in!

It's been chaos here over Xmas, we haven't been home for three weeks. While we've been away, MnipJnr (13 weeks) has grown humongous. Moses basket needs to be given away somehow, and we've transferred from the bednest to the cot, and started to put him to bed earlier (7-10 usually) with the monitor. Amazing to get a few hours in the evening back, although moving him away from my bedside is a mixed blessing. I'm not so bothered by every squeak and snort, but I do miss turning over to look at his little peaceful face.

Apparently we're supposed to be doing some sort of bedtime routine - any ideas? Do you feed boob/bottle before/after bath? What if they aren't hungry then? And when do you read them the book? And what about dream feeding? AGHHH!

Re clothes, baby wears vest and little outfit (comfy trousers and jumper) during day, and vest and sleepsuit at night. We're using a normal one layer Aden Anais swaddle, plus a cotton blanket up to the waist if it's towards 16-17 degrees.

I regret

  • polarn o pyret matching bodysuit and trouser combos. The trousers have very tight waistbands and MnipJnr had mild reflux. Much vomming ensued.
  • not buying a my Brest friend earlier. It looks ridiculous but has saved my back/shoulders.
  • buying too much 3-6 month clothes
  • having far too many bibs and scratch mitts and hats. Those ugly cotton hats that come with babygros as a set - he has loads but since we're not supposed to put a hat on indoors he hover really wears them.
OrangeBlossom2 · 08/01/2014 19:30

Mnippy we do bath/face wash, very rarely a massage, lights dimmed, night outfit/gro bag on, feed in bed, cuddly story with daddy or me if he did bath, into bed nest or if still seems very awake or hungry another feed first.

We are a bit rubbish about the washing and massaging tbh but the rest is the same every day.

roxvox · 08/01/2014 23:50

mnippy I read that routine isn't important (if you want one) until 5-8 months as this is when babies start to grasp the idea of a routine. By 8 months bad habits can have been set etc supposedly! I have started a bit of a routine, but there's no specific time that I do things. It's bath (night time wash lotion), boob in bed with lights out, into bednest, boob in bed, into bednest, boob in bed, into bednest, boob in bed, give up and co-sleep. It's going exactly to that routine every night so far Wink

chickieno1 · 09/01/2014 03:10

Ha rox we have the same routine then :)
Bf then cot then huge poo so start again. Then cot for three minutes now back bf in bed again!

Thanks for the all the kind words ladies. Will keep trying to put her in cot but might go for the feed to sleep and then transfer and just aim for a bit longer in cot until we crack it. Hopefully before she's one :). I do know that things change all the time but with ds we had our evenings by now! I can't give out too much as she's a good little baby :)

Ds is being difficult now though which is a pain and hard on my husband as he has to deal with it most when I'm feeding or putting lo to bed etc.

chickieno1 · 09/01/2014 06:41

Hi Mnippy hope you had a good Xmas? How was Paris?

JellyCurls · 09/01/2014 07:04

To ladies struggling to get little ones in cot, do you put them there during the day at all? Before we transferred baby J to cot I used to put him in there to kick while I was upstairs. He gradually learned to like his cot.

No proper bedtime routine yet but it is kind of, bath if he's awake when DD is in bath if not wash & Jammies on. Bottle - winded he then falls asleep while being burped. Then wake him to swaddle and he is almost asleep by time we put him in cot. He doesn't go down till about 9 though but that lets him get some cuddles after other two are asleep

pinkbuttons · 09/01/2014 07:28

a 18-24month first christmas baby grow??? thats ridiculous. even big babys wouldn't fit if their birthday was dec 24th... someone really hasnt thought that through Grin

weve just started bedtime routine this week. she has a bath with DS at 7 then swaddle and feed in dark room in bed and transfer to crib. first night she fed on and off for 2 hrs last night was down by half 7 (but think that nay have been due to jabs)

12 week jabs yesterday she screamed and screamed and terrified everyone in the waiting room. think ive got a drama queen on my hands.

feel like whenever I go to baby clinic I come away more worried than before. this time it was about isla having a flat head (and a lecture about tummy time) and a tiny bit of cradle cap that she offered to make a dermatologist appt. for. its a tiny patch and not bothering her so I hadnt even been doing anything about it. that was after hv had asked if she was baby Neil. No shes not a boy and shes wearing pink tights and a floral dress! sorry for rant still feeling cross incase you hadnt noticed.

really lovely that the threads a bit busier.

BowlFullofJelly · 09/01/2014 12:24

Our bedtime routine is bath, clean clothes and sleeping bag, then feed and into cot. So she is being fed to sleep, but I always rouse her slightly with a kiss and cuddle so she goes into cot with eyes open.

slippy I also loved the nappy bin for the first few months, then I couldn't get any cartridges for a while so used nappy bags. I kind of twigged that the nappy bin just kept them all in a nappy sausage in one place, and actually 50p for 100 nappy bags and a plastic bin in the bathroom did the same job. But then we were able to get rid of our rubbish very reguarly so maybe less of and issue.

Sat at softplay at the moment, ds has disappeared into the massive playframe, and DD is fast asleep, but in her pramsuit. Really don't want to wake her to take it off, so just have to keep prodding her to make sure she stirs.

Thepurplegiraffe · 09/01/2014 13:31

Thanks for the thread Roxvox. Calming down a bit here after finding out yesterday that C is going to have to wear a harness to sort out her hips that I thought were absolutely fine. Bit of a shock, especially as she is a right wriggler, doesn't even like to be held to much, so will hate it but better to get it fixed now. Dreading tomorrow though when she gets it fitted. Assuming sleep will be even worse than it is now...

Mnippy · 09/01/2014 14:48

giraffe - sorry to hear that - I suppose at least something is being done about it early, which is good.

MnipJnr has been incredibly vommy today - been through three sleepsuits, two jumpers, one pair of trousers already (and that doesn't include MY clothes changes!).

Thanks chick, Paris was great! Eurostar was fast, we were central so walked everywhere (the metro has loads of stairs, no lifts...) and best of all pushchairs get to skip the ticket queue at the Musee D'Orsay and the Louvre. Obviously we spent a lot of time in cafes feeding and also in the numerous rubbishy lifts in museums, but still, I'm counting our blessings. MnipJnr decided not to poo the whole time we were there...then let it all out in one poo-a-thon the day we got back.

Jelly - I'm also trying very hard to get baby to sleep in the cot in daytime. It's not working. He screams his little face off.

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 09/01/2014 18:04

pinkbuttons N has had cradle cap for ages, all over the top of his head, I didn't realise it was even worth treating, did she say why she wanted to refer you?

roxvox · 09/01/2014 21:17

jellycurls I don't tend to put Ailla in her crib during the day. Mainly because we live in a townhouse style house which is spread out over 4 floors and our bedroom is right on the top floor, whereas the floor I spend most of my time on is the 1st.

pinkbuttons sounds like your HV might be a bit of a drama queen. How come you are still getting visits from her? Ours stopped coming round ages ago now. When I took A in for her first jabs the nurse made a comment on the fact that my red book is different (because I was given it in a different county) and I said that the HV liked it because it had tips for tummy time in it. To which the 2 nurses started going off on one saying "Tummy time? Oh that's why my 18 year old can't lift his head himself!" And "So that's why my 24 year old daughter has a square head" etc etc. They make a good point, tummy time wasn't a thing back then and yet we've all turned out alright Smile

giraffe sorry about your LO needing a harness. A is one who likes to kick and move about a lot so I'm not sure how she would cope with it either. Any idea how long it will need to stay on for?

mnippy we've been through the same number of items of clothing today! Mostly due to vom, although once due to wee escaping from the nappy!

We had a horrendous night last night. A woke every 2-2.5 hours for much longer feeds than she normally has at night. Somehow I still managed to get out of bed (ok, so it was 12.30 by the time I got up, but I was wide awake from 8am) and did a bit of shopping which was nice. And A was the best she's ever been whilst I was there too (proud mummy). She's shattered tonight though and was really upset downstairs, so I've brought her upstairs early with some white noise and she's fallen asleep already. I daren't try the crib tonight, partially because I can't be arsed tonight as am tired myself, but also because she's tired and teasy and she has her second lot of jabs tomorrow so I am trying to make up for it in advance by being super nice to her Smile

Thanks Roxvox. They say 4 or 5 weeks, if it works as they hope. Really hope it does!

Hope everybody had an ok night. Not her best here but not her worst either. Expecting some bad nights now. Sad

Lovelybitofsquirrel · 10/01/2014 10:58

Giraffe good luck with harness, thinking of you
Rox N has had 2 unsettled nights since jabs, although fine in the day, fingers crossed for you

chickieno1 · 10/01/2014 12:52

Good luck today giraffe xx

FeministInTraining · 10/01/2014 13:52

Checking in, this is like the cosy corner now Smile

Good luck with the harness Giraffe, hope it all goes to plan.

R also has cradle cap, HV said use the shampoo as it was all over his forehead (he looked like a reptile) but there was no suggestion of a dermatologist! We still have visits, the third one is in a couple of weeks. I like her though so it's ok!

We have a bedtime routine that works for us (so far) as of this week. Awake from nap around 7pm, bath at 8, smother with epaderm, into night clothes and gro bag then feed to sleep and in cot around 9pm. We all go to the bedroom at this point and DP and I watch random stuff on the iPad and actually talk to each other before going to sleep. Then about 3 night feeds before waking for the day around 8/9am. Sleeping through/not feeding to sleep isn't a priority for me atm, just a regular routine so that I don't dread the evenings. I pray it continues!

We have too many 3-6m proper clothes. He's been in this size for a few weeks already but I don't want him wearing proper clothes all the time yet. Loads won't be worn much, DP says we better have another boy so they won't go to waste! Moses basket lasted about 3 weeks, cot is next to my bed so could have just used the pram carrycot in the living room.

So R has eczema, the worst of it is on his back and arms but he is quite dry all over. Using epaderm prescribed by doctor but I'm bf and considering cutting out dairy/cows milk as a trial for 2/3 weeks. Does anyone already do this? Advice/experience please!

Wispa123 · 10/01/2014 14:29

Hi, I haven't been on here for ages! Hi again! F has just turned 3 months (12 + 3) and is proving to be a feisty little thing! i see you've been chatting about sleep! i can't complain about night time - between 7 - 10 hours and one night feed. day napping is another story! I cannot for my life get her to do longer than 20-30mins at any one time! Wouldn't mind if se didn't enter meltdown in the afternoon! Any tips? Kiwii - we had our 12 week jabs this week too and she didn't sleep - turned into demon child for 2 days! Hope your side effects didn't get worse!

We have a dummy taker here but I think its a necessary evil! Def needs it to settle but pain in the bum at night when it keeps coming out!

How's tummy time going for everyone?

p.s. is anyone in or around leeds? Would love to meet more mums!

BowlFullofJelly · 10/01/2014 14:56

Afternoon all. giraffe sorry to hear about the harness, hope it goes ok today and baby isn't too upset about it.

Dds naps have gone to pot today, typical as have the in laws arriving at 4pm and she is liable to be a screaming harpie! Just trying to get her down now. I am also struggling to get more than 20 mins out of dd at nap time. She wakes up gurgling and happy, but means we have about 4 or 5 naps a day rather than 3 decent ones. Its very frustrating as I normally spend longer trying to get her to sleep than she spends asleep, and you can't get much done in 20mins. But on the plus side they are in her cot, so just hoping they lengthen as she gets older.

Sorry no advice feminist as I have no experience with skin conditions, but I suppose its worth a shot?

Any nice plans for the weekend?

xuntitledx · 10/01/2014 15:03

LO has cradle cap too - we've just been using the shampoo which is helping and DH gives it a good brush with a soft baby brush.

Daytime naps are a pipe dream here...

Think we might need to start bringing bedtime forward from 10/11pm as he turns into a proper whinge bag come 8pm - will give it a try this weekend when DH is around to help Grin

Really looking forward to the weekend, we have a friend coming who is starting his own business creating baby mementos. We're having a cast made of his hand and footprints done. Will post a pic on Facebook when done!

Wispa123 · 10/01/2014 15:04

I feel your pain jelly! F just slept 20mins on our bed after i stroked her bare legs which i've never tried before but worked! Probably coincidence! We also have about 4 naps on a good day and i do sometimes dread people coming round as she goes from happy to grumpy in seconds! like you say, hopefully it'll improve with age! amazing how many jobs you can do in 20-30mins isn't it!? We have a moby sling / harness and she loves it! guaranteed to sleep

emmoB13 · 10/01/2014 20:47

wispa i'm in bradford! Are you on the fb group?
