Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

frouby well I sort of am mixed feeding with DH giving him a bottle at the late feed - well he gives him a bottle if EBM Btwn 8&9 then formula around 10.30. The hardest bit is doing the feed he seems to want around 5-6pm in the middle of dinner/bedtime so maybe I'll see if I can express enough to give him a bottle then tho ATM I'm finding it hard to find any time to express!

Well done alyssa and super! I'm not dieting due to bf but really want to stArt eating healthier. There's a 28 day eating plan im Goodfood magazine but firstly I have no time to prepare special meals and secondly preparing special healthy snacks is even a push when right now I just grab something and can't even seem to finish a cup of tea! Maybe I'll leave it a month..

kchapper5 · 28/01/2014 11:06

hotCross ive got the wonder weeks app, i find it really interesting we are just in the middle of the first storm cloud week :(
Well done everyone on the weight loss very impressive. Im really trying to eat healthier and cant wait to start exercising after my 6 week check.

CrispyCrochet · 28/01/2014 13:03

So I just downloaded the wonder weeks app! At least if your baby is fussing a lot you can look at the app and go "hm, ok maybe this makes sense."

I think I mentioned I ordered a moby wrap - well it arrived yesterday and so far Thomas seems to like it. He was always pretty good in the Ergo but I think really a bit too small for it (as I don't have the newborn insert). So I'm glad I bought the wrap. Does seem a bit pricy for what is just 1 long piece of fabric. Shock Heyho!

Does anyone else have any gadgets/gizmos/products/apps that they swear are making things easier for them?

I bought this tuppenceandcrumble.com/shop/star_wraps/fleece-baby-star-wrap-brights after reading about it on a mumsnet thread somewhere else. I ordered mine from Notonthehighstreet as my work colleagues had given me a gift voucher. I think it works well as it keeps DS's hands warm - it is a bit big at the minute but when he is buckled into his car seat it keeps it all snug and tight around him. He always feels nice and cosy when I take him out of it. I've also had many "awwws" and "thats so cute"s when I take him out of his push chair while wearing it.

Mogz · 28/01/2014 13:39

Ooh my gosh those star wraps are gorgeous! Really want to raid my bank account but I'm so skint this month [sulky]

CrispyCrochet · 28/01/2014 14:03

Mogz if you are crafty & have a sewing machine it would be pretty easy to make yourself. What are your must haves then mogz?? Anything I should know about??

Hotmad · 28/01/2014 15:55

We had our first immunisations today!! She cried louder than I ever heard before whilst the needles went in, loved the rotavirus oral drops then went off to sleep for couple hours had a feed and now asleep again! My heart went completely when she screamed but she's having plenty of mummy cuddles now and it's all for good reason

CrispyCrochet · 28/01/2014 16:38

Hotmad I've heard the injections are just as bad for mum. Bless!

Hotmad · 28/01/2014 17:29

It was not nice but she was so super cute.... And she has slept since!! Checking out the net it seems this is normal, she did wake for a feed and that's it!

mumofthreeboysS · 28/01/2014 20:21

crispy I've got a Bug in a Rug that I use to put LO in - it's a bit like the star one you've got - just wraps round them and you can put it in the car seat or buggy -it's so practical and cosy www.babyrug.co.uk

oh god, this colic is driving me mad- Joshua is inconsolable from about 6pm to 10pm every night- he was screaming so much earlier he was sweating. He just seems frantic to try and sooth himself (chewing on hands) but can't. He's not hungry as DH just gave him 120ml of ebm. sigh...how long is this going to last...

mumofthreeboysS · 28/01/2014 20:22

sorry didn't activate link: www.babyrug.co.uk

Alyssa1978 · 28/01/2014 20:57

My heart goes out to you and Joshua mum my cousins little boy had colic 24/7 and it was awful to watch.

Honestly I'm not dieting, sw is all about eating healthy and how you cook things etc, i eat more now than I ever have lol xx

Alyssa1978 · 28/01/2014 21:42

mum colic tends to peak at around 6 weeks and it is reduced by 3-4 months but it should be completely gone by 5 months.
My cousin says it just felt like 24/7 but it was generally always at the same time few hours at night but his was gone before he was 5 months but he says you need to be able to have a break and hand baby over to someone for a while, just so you can have a slight break.
Gotta be hard when bf though and especially with your other 2 to look after too, I hope he feels better soon Hun xx

CrispyCrochet · 28/01/2014 21:49

Mum that big in a rug thing is cute. I'm keeping all these types of things in mind to get friends as gifts as I'm going to try & avoid buying clothes as gifts to all future friends who have babies. Sorry to hear that Joshua has colic & you are both suffering. I hope he gets better soon for both of you!

I need to start exercising again but feels impossible with such a tiny baby & DH doing his marathon training. Before getting pregnant I was training for a marathon too & was the fittest I've ever been so want to get back into running a bit - although I can't see I'll ever have the time to train for a marathon again. I am doing lots of walking as I don't have my own car so I bet that is helping - if I could just cut back the chocolate intake id probably see some weight come off!

SupermansGirl · 29/01/2014 06:57

Lilah has changed her night times and its truely killing me!! She now sleeps between her 6-9, 9-12, 12-3 feeds and then wide awake until 9am but to top it off she will not just chill its full on moaning if i leave her anywhere.

mumofthreeboysS · 29/01/2014 07:07

crispy I've also got a moby wrap and it's a lifesaver- ESP in the evenings when J is fractious. I agree a bit pricey but I've used mine loads already and FYI they sell well on eBay used.

alyssa it's good to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel re colic. My other two had it in the evenings too tho ds1 was worse as he had reflux too all day! Am I just unlucky?? At least he's good at night- slept from 10.30-3 then 4-6.45 so can't complain there.

supermans have you tried trying to keep her awake a bit during the day to try and get her to sleep more at night? I don't know if you're a fan of routines but we've been roughly following a Gina Ford routine and it just helps you to know roughly how much sleep during the day a baby of that age needs to gently coax them to sleep better at night.

hotcrossbun83 · 29/01/2014 11:59

Well done everyone on weight loss! I lost almost all baby weight straight away but have happily been stuffing my face and saying I need to eat so I can pump more, and now I'm putting weight on. Need to stop the cake :(

super can you go to sleep at 6 for a couple if nights to catch up? Then maybe try and keep her awake a bit later, though over tired can cause as many problems as under tired I think. Last night ds was great at settling after bath like the night before but kept waking up over and over, must have been over tired I think. I can never get the balance right!

Ds has added another feed and is up to 8 a day, waking exactly every 3 hours even at night. Just been to baby clinic and they think it's a growth spurt so hopefully won't last. Annoying that he used to go 4-5 hours but I spent 2 of this settling him, now I can get him down in an hour but no extra sleep as he just wakes more.

Alyssa1978 · 29/01/2014 20:52

It's official I now have 3 sick children and a other half who starts night shift tomorrow Sad
I could keep the calpol business going all on my own at the minute, only poor baby can't have anything

mumofthreeboysS · 29/01/2014 21:31

Oh no alyssa like a coldy thing or a stomach bug? Hope they're all better soon :-( times of illness I always think are the worst part of being a parent - hang in there!

Alyssa1978 · 29/01/2014 21:52

They have a cold mum but its more like flu, they are really ill bless them and ds1 been off nursery but he says he wants to go tomorrow so he can paint.

Mogz · 30/01/2014 11:34

How're the DC doing today Alyssa?
We're back from the clinic and Genevieve is now 11lbs 8oz, pretty much following the growth chart spot on. Didn't get to stay and play with the other babies as DH had to go pick his mum up for a visit (wonder what she'll make of my pink hair hehe!). In other good news I think we've cracked sleeping at night, so long as she has a bottle at 11 she (mostly!) sleeps until 5, which is amazing. Now I've just got to convince my brain to stop waking me up every two hours to check on her!

mumofthreeboysS · 30/01/2014 13:30

That's great mogz how many weeks is she now?

I'm so frustrated - both kids at school/preschool and was going to blitz the house ready for ds1's party on sat and Joshua won't settle at all- so far today spent feeding or trying to settle him. I know I shouldn't expect to have loads of time but it's doing my head in- house has never been so dirty and untidy.

froubylou · 30/01/2014 13:37

Hope they are a bit better alyssa. Nothing worse than poorly kids.

Had seb weighed today too and he is gaining as he should. Following the 9th centile line perfectly. Less than impressed with hv though. She was very abrupt and sharp and didn't seem to want to discuss bfing at all. I only asked about offering a bottle and asked about how you hand express and she chucked a leaflet at me.

Seb seems to have changed so much the last week. Very smiley now and interacting more with thjnga around him. Likes his baby gym now and his toys. And going longer between feeds. Bizarrely I feel more tired now than before lol. Tempted to go back to bed for an hour at this time of day. Every day lol.

Is anyone using grobags at all? Seb is always kicking his blankets off so going to try them I think.

Alyssa1978 · 30/01/2014 15:53

We have them as ds2 loves his frouby but Lleyton won't settle in them and prefers being swaddled up and sleeps better.

Ds2 a lot better but other 2 are still ill Sad

Mogz · 30/01/2014 16:33

mum she's 7weeks 2 days today so I am amazed that she has to the hang of sleeping through so quickly.
Frouby I don't think HV's are the best to ask about bf stuff, have you got any specialist consultants or groups near you? Hand expressing can be tricky but a bit of practice should help you get good at it. Or have you thought about getting a manual pump? I have a Tommee Tippee one that I get on with quite well.

CrispyCrochet · 30/01/2014 20:52

Am I the only BFing mum on this thread that hasn't expressed any milk? I have all the gear to do so (pump, steriliser, bottles) I just haven't done it. I feel totally clueless on what to do... I'm thinking I might make it my chore next week to try and express some. Any advice?

Are any of you ladies full time SAHM? I'd love to not have to go back to work but my DH is pretty keen for me to do it. I was only on a salary of 20k so can't imagine I'd have much left after child care plus I'd really need to invest in a car. I'm also looking to possibly retrain & do something different. Any advice??
