So our microwave is also a 2nd oven, tonight I needed to use it so pre heated to 200c, went to put the garlic bread in and found that I had left the sterilizer in from earlier. One corner of the lid has melted. FML.

CrispyCrochet · 22/01/2014 21:20

Oh no hotcross! Is it still useable??

Also, Clare that man is daft! I'm sure you look amazing.

Does anyone else find that on days when I stay in all day I seem to BF non stop. But if we go out for the day to the shops or what not, DS sleeps for hours in between BF! I guess the good thing is that it makes me want to get out of the house a bit more!

mumofthreeboysS · 22/01/2014 22:14

Lol crispy your LO obviously knows when you're just sitting at home conveniently available to offer boob constantly! I find mine sleeps tons when we're out- I guess the motion of the buggy/car keeps them happy/sleepy!

So has any of those who are bf braved feeding in public yet? I've only done it in front of a couple of friends/family who have visited but not out and about. Not sure if I should get a feeding scarf- for me to hide behind let alone Joshua! Thing is latching can still be a fiddle ESP as he always gets his arm in the way! I told my mum my worried about doing if I public and instead of saying oh you'll be ok and no-one will pay any attention (or something like that) she said why don't you bring a bottle of formula to feed when out and about? (Don't think she knows about bf and supply ie, my supply would plummet if I did that every time I went out) I think secretly she's not v comfortable with it all- I think she'd be worried someone would be offended if I bf in public.

Oh and hot sorry I hear about your steriliser! Baby brain? I went to get Ds weighed today only to find out I'd got the day wrong!

clare, poor you, I'm sure you look great too. My mum said to me today oh your stomach has gone down a lot already, my auntie who is hard of hearing said don't worry dear itll get smaller eventually Hmm

CrispyCrochet · 22/01/2014 22:30

Mumofthree I've been brave & done it in public. I bought a Bebe Chic nursing cover from amazon which I feel is a good security blanket when in public or when guests are over. I know some people feel you shouldn't have to cover up but it makes me feel better. The good thing about the nursing covers is it has a plastic bit to keep the neck open so I can still look down & see what I'm doing. I'm getting more confident though and at the GP yesterday Thomas was screaming so I didn't want to faff around getting the cover out - I just whipped the boob out! I figured if anywhere is safe it's a doctors office.

I hope everyone else feels comfortable to do it in public if not just yet eventually. I was in a coffee shop the other day & ended up sitting right next to another breast feeding mum with a baby only a couple weeks older than mine. So I think it's pretty common really & tbh I don't think most people do notice as most people are just absorbed in their own world they really aren't paying attention to you.

Alyssa1978 · 22/01/2014 23:20

Oh no clare take no notice.
That happened to an old friend of mine once, we were all on a night out and went into a wmc for some cheap drinks and while we were all paying in he said to her dont worry sweetheart, I won't charge you for 2 people then pointed to her stomach and said the baby
She was mortified and spent the whole night crying in the bathroom.
At the end of the day, we have all just had babies and it takes a while for our bodies to go back to normal and I bet you look lovely.
Xx

Sangelina · 23/01/2014 02:45

Clare, that's awful. What a tool.

I've had a couple of goes feeding in public, it's really ok. I use the top up vest down method as advised by a Freind and it exposes no boob at all, unlike my breast feeding tops! They're a royal pain in the arse.

mumofthreeboysS · 23/01/2014 08:05

sangelina yeah I don't get that, bf tops expose loads of boob- ok for easy access but not modesty! I've also done the top up best down thing which is more descreet tho find the top sometimes gets in the way. I've been living in my h&m bf vests with other tops over, they're great.

crispy will look up that scarf- I wasn't going to get one as I didn't think I'd bf for long but since I'm still going I think I will. Just as a security thing more than anything till I get more confident.

mumofthreeboysS · 23/01/2014 08:06

Vest down not best!

CrispyCrochet · 23/01/2014 10:03

mumofthreeboys Here is the one I ordered from Amazon: Nursing Cover

Also, the only nursing tops I've found that I like and are discreet are like these ones from Mamas & Papas. I got one on sale a while ago - at full price I find them a bit pricey but they are very discreet and don't show too much boob - when you are nursing or otherwise. Mamas & Papas Nursing Top

Alyssa1978 · 23/01/2014 21:02

Well I'm amazed, normally Lleyton is really fussy between 6ish and 10pm and won't go to sleep until around 10pm it whenever that bottle is due around that time and tonight.....he drank 4oz at 7pm and went right to sleep in his Moses basket and he's still there Shock
I've probably just jinxed it, but 2 hours just me having a cuppa with all my kids asleep is unknown.

Lets hope it's things to come Grin he had his fussy period last night and had his bottle at 10pm but slept until 1pm and after that bottle slept until 6am woo hoo 5 hours solid sleep
He's just gone to 5oz bottles but sometimes doesn't drink it all but I'm still wondering if maybe it's that?

mumofthreeboysS · 24/01/2014 04:10

crispy the link for the mamas and papas top doesn't work. Can see the nursing apron tho- looks like its good for covering up and seeing baby so I might invest in one!

Went to bf clinic today- was so busy but managed to get Joshua weighed. He's putting on weight nicely which is really reassuring. Still won't open his mouth really wide to latch (hence sore left boob) but hopefully that'll improve.

He's been giving us a couple of smiles already but don't know if it's developmentally impossible at 4 weeks?? He looks at us and smiles so it's not like he's doing it in his sleep? Oh well, real or not, so cute!

mumofthreeboysS · 24/01/2014 04:11

alyssa that's really good re him sleeping from 7, mine was the usual- fussy and unsettled most of the evening.

Mogz · 24/01/2014 08:06

mum I'm convinced Genevieve has been smiling since about week 3, as they're smiles with her whole face iykwim instead of just windy grimaces. She is now grinning like a good'un when she sees us after a nap, when presented with her fave butterfly toy and, strangly, whenever anyone whistles. It's magic and totally melts my heart. Our HV said there's been some research recently to say that babies smile for real a lot earlier than 6 weeks, so Joshua could well be smiling at you properly.
Alyssa how was he last night? Get another good chunk of sleep to make the rest of us jealous?

Alyssa1978 · 24/01/2014 09:55

mogz he was really good, he had a bottle every 4 hours and after he'd finished he went right to sleep after being put in his bed Grin I can cope with every 4 hours its brill and the fact he's now slept in his own bed for 2 nights in a row is a real breakthrough.
Hopefully he will continue with this but dp is on his 4 days off now so it's making sure he doesn't just put him into our bed after his turn to feed him Hmm
He's been at work this past 4 days/nights so its been my routine and hoping it continues.
mum Lleyton was smiling before 6 weeks Hun and it was when I talked to him so it can't have been wind Smile

froubylou · 24/01/2014 10:15

Morning all

Just back from sebs hip scan and all fine! First day back driving and feel 100% better now I know I can get out and about. Can't see my big pram lasting long though. It's very heavy and bulky to fold and store etc. Lovely to push and he looks comfy and warm it's just too big to have in and out of the boot.

We have had smiles since about 3 weeks. Really getting big cheesy grins now though at 6 weeks which are in response to us talking to him!

I have ordered a bfing cover too. We still have cluster feeding in an evening so have been avoiding going anywhere at that time. But not staying in forever lol.

Mogz · 24/01/2014 12:05

Frouby must be great to be back behind the wheel. I really must get some driving lessons booked as I miss being able to get out of the village, someone needs to come up with a baby safe motorbike! Glad to hear all is well with Seb.

13loki · 24/01/2014 12:13

I couldn't get on with any mammas and papas nursing tops - they and Mothercare ones wanted my nipples to be on the side of my boob! I have a really good Mama Licous feeding top and will buy some more soon.

Älfi finally has citizenship of Australia, so is no longer stateless. The migration board are confused as to how she entered the country without a passport or ID card.

Mogz · 24/01/2014 14:51

Loki did you have to explain how you smuggled her in? Grin

Genevieve has now been awake (bar a couple of 5 minute naps) for almost 4 hours, she doesn't seem to have got to the screaming over tired stage though and is babbling away to her reflection in the play gym mirror. I really wanted to jump in to the shower while she slept but somehow I can't make myself whilst she is awake, even though she is perfectly happy and safe in her Moses basket with all her toys attached. This must be the trade off for last night's epic sleeping, 2300-0400, 0400-0800! Hopefully DH will get his early finish today and be home in an hour or so and then I can have a wash and go through some paperwork that work has sent me.

Alyssa1978 · 24/01/2014 16:25

mogz Lleyton is now staying awake a lot more during the day and I think that's why he's sleeping better during the night too.
I used to bring a bouncy chair into the bathroom with me when I took a shower, that way I felt more comfortable.

Mogz · 24/01/2014 16:44

That sounds like a good idea, thanks. I think there would just about be enough room to pop her in the bathroom so I can keep an eye on her.

Pistachiotruffle · 24/01/2014 17:18

Ds is definitely staying awake and being more alert during the day, he doesn't seem interested in toys though, he just cries when left on his play mat or bouncy chair! Any suggestions? I don't really want to spend too much money, but I feel bad that he isn't getting stimulation from toys.

CrispyCrochet · 24/01/2014 17:28

Sorry the link didn't work - in case anyone is interested, I'll try again. www.mamasandpapas.com/product-nursing-grey-striped-2-layer-nursing-top/s0011888/type-s/

mogz and alyssa I also take a bouncy chair in the bathroom with me while I shower. It usually works out okay but I do have to pick my moments carefully.

I'm on day 7 of no poop... Getting very worried about the explosion that is inevitable. I've put T in one of my favourite sleep suits to try & tempt fate (it is white with light grey elephants so would definitely be ruined by a big ol' poop!) GP & HV both didn't seemed too worried but I can't help but worried.

CrispyCrochet · 24/01/2014 18:34

Well I'm not sure what brought it on - time, tummy massage or putting him in white - but we have had poop explosion.

Now soaking the sleep suit & vest. But I do have one happy baby! Must feel like a relief!

lisbapalea · 24/01/2014 19:40

pistachio I know where you're coming from when it comes to 'playing'. With DD1 I am sure I was constantly showing toys to her but I just haven't had the time with Hannah, but she also doesn't seem that bothered.
This afternoon she just wouldn't settle after about 4pm and wanted to just be carried and even that didn't guarantee no crying. I randomly popped her on her changing mat while I did something and she totally calmed down - so bouncy chairs and playmats are pointless but a changing mat is a hit?!

We've had some really good nights recently (feeds at 7pm, midnight, 4am and 7am) which I have totally got used to, but it went haywire last night and I was more or less awake from 2am and felt absolutely dreadful today. Fingers crossed she gets back on track tonight!!

CrispyCrochet · 24/01/2014 20:17

Pistacio & lisab I got given LOADS of toys - some new & some second hand. DS LOVES the Lamaze firefly. Like seriously any other toy I dangle in front of him - nothing. But Freddie the firefly can even stop mild crying!

Also DS loves looking in the mirror that is above his baby gym! So if you don't want to buy loads of toys maybe try just showing your LO a little mirror??
