dusty we still have the odd flare up but it's definitely better, I've tried a few things so not sure exactly what has done it. Been using infacol for over a week so might be helping, also we're very militant sbout winding a lot during feeds now. Switched to dr brown bottles and hipp organic formula. Also bought 'colic calm', google it - a friend recommended it and def think it helps when he has it, gave it to him a couple of nights ago and he was asleep soon after

Alyssa1978 · 20/01/2014 20:42

Woo hoo -5lbs at slimming world tonight Grin

MrsShrubs · 20/01/2014 22:05

alyssa that is fantastic welldone you!!

mogz you are a star thank you so much!

Blondie276 · 21/01/2014 04:49

Hi all- not posted much but been following. Had a crap couple of weeks with little one being diagnosed with silent reflux. A few trips to the dr and hospital later and in hoping we are finally on the right track to get some sleep!
Someone mentioned clamping while BF- my lo foes that hence I can only feed with nipple shields otherwise she chomps my poor nips so much she indents them like she's trying to bite them off! Don't know if that helps?
My DH is on a 15 hr night shift tonight and tnrw. Sat here praying lo behaves as isn't it so much harder dealing with them alone! Can't complain so far but the night is still young and she's still feeding every 3 hrs grrr..........

lisbapalea · 21/01/2014 07:47

Morning all!

Has anyone else's period returned? Mine has, with a vengeance... Forgot how lovely pregnancy is for giving 9mths off this delight. Early periods are a definite downside to formula feeding....

Speaking of formula, how much do people give at each feed? We're still giving 120ml at each feed but I wonder if we should offer more now that Hannah is 5wks?

lisbapalea · 21/01/2014 08:51

Hi Blondie - hope you're doing OK after the reflux diagnosis; hope things settle down for you all very soon.

Good luck with your DH being on the nightshift - my DH is away overnight with work next week and again in a few weeks' time and I am slightly nervous about it! Mainly because I will need to be super organised getting DD1 to preschool in the mornings, which may be a struggle while simultaneously feeding DD2, being bleary eyed from night feeding, and having to get myself up and about - yikes!

CrispyCrochet · 21/01/2014 09:42

Hi fellow mummies. I'm new to the thread. My DS1 was born on the 10th of December. We have our 6 week check up today. Any advice on what to expect? I know I've been warned contraception will be discussed. I was always historically on the pill but am thinking I would like something a bit more Iong term. Any suggestions? What choices have you made? Are you even thinking about sex yet?

PS sorry if this topic has already been covered but I don't see how I can read all 256 replies so far!

hotcrossbun83 · 21/01/2014 10:35

Hi crispy, my ds1 was born on 11/12! Our check up is thurs so wondering the same thing. My dr is away so I have a male one, so hoping for no exam? I didn't have stitches so surely no need? A bit upset as like my dr and she has held my hand through feeding problems, would have liked to see her as still v tearful at times

CrispyCrochet · 21/01/2014 12:21

Hi hot cross! Lucky you did having an 11/12/13 baby! We were hoping for that date but no such luck.

Just leaving the apt. No internal exam. Mostly just wanted to talk about contraception. I'm thinking either the implant or the coil but not sure which. She just poked baby about a bit. She didn't seem concerned that DS hadn't done a poo since Friday! I'm prepared at all times for the explosion that will likely occur when he finally does go!

Sorry you won't get to see your normal GP. Do you know about the breast feeding hotline you can call with questions if you need? I know it's not the same as face to face interaction.

Mogz · 21/01/2014 12:42

Hi Crispy my Genevieve was born on the 10th too Smile and we have our 6 week check too, no idea what to expect but I must remember to go pee in the tube soon, the glamour never ends!
lis I'm mix feeding and no sign of an actual period yet but yesterday and today I've been getting some cramps so i'm not sure if its that far off. As for feeding we offer 120ml formula or ebm each feed which tends to be every two or three hours during the day and once at night. She's 6 weeks and just over 10lbs and this seems to fill her up.

CrispyCrochet · 21/01/2014 16:06

Mogs Genevieve is such a beautiful name. My LO is called Thomas Rex. Is it cheeky I called my child King Thomas? Grin

Lis no period yet for me - thank goodness! I'm tempted by the contraceptives that say little or no period!! I'm thinking the coil but one of the potential side effects was weight gain. Anyone know how likely that is to happen?

Oooo I've also just downloaded my newborn photos from a photoshoot I had done when he was 10 days old!! He is already so much bigger. Did anyone else have newborn photos done? I'm already thinking of having another session at maybe 6 months. I just want as many lovely photos of my boy as possible!

itsliz · 21/01/2014 16:27

Hi everyone! Just dropping in to say hello and to catch up on posts as I've been out of the loop for a while.

Finley is 3 weeks old today but we've been really struggling for the last few days. He just refuses to settle after a night feed (kept us up from 1.30am-5.30am today - I didn't even know newborns could stay awake that long!) and seems really fidgety and uncomfortable afterwards.
All the signs point to reflux but the health visitor popped round this afternoon and she doesn't seem too concerned... Going to try some Infacol or Dentinox tonight and maybe a change of routine, so fingers crossed!

Blondie276 · 21/01/2014 16:59

Itsliz we had the same issue with our HV. She was useless so I made a Dr app as I was sure despite her saying there was nothing wrong there was and low and behold silent reflux diagnosed. All the symptoms were my dad to a t! 3 trips later and we are on rsnitidine and domperidone as gaviscon did nothing so hoping for an improvement soon which we have seen slightly. If you suspectbten see your gp as I personally found the hvnto be a waste of space who appeared to know nothing. Good luck as my dd was also the same- refusing to sleep or settle at night and refused to be put down and I know how tough it is . I hope you get some rest soon!
My mother has come up today to stay to 'help' but quite frankly I find her more of a hinderance than help. My house is a mess already and she has only been here an hour! Wish me luck................
I might be needing wine soon!

Blondie276 · 21/01/2014 17:00

Were my dd to a t- not my dad! Damn predictive text!!

Mogz · 21/01/2014 17:24

itsliz If its not reflux he could be having his first growth spurt, so he'll be hungry, fussy and generally out of sorts. We had 3 days of baby throwing any sort of routine and content-ness out f the window, it was exhausting but it passed.

Alyssa1978 · 21/01/2014 20:04

Got our 6 week checks tomorrow even though he's 8 weeks on Saturday lol.
Think I'm gonna ask her about injection and stick to that and at least if it doesn't agree with the then the hormones will be out my system in weeks rather than years.
Although I should really get a longer term thing, 3 under 4 kids are very hard I don't think I could ever cope with another Hmm

Mogz · 21/01/2014 21:59

If any of you are in Cambridgeshire head over to the local boards as there's a meet up being organised and it'd be a great excuse to get out of the house.

mumofthreeboysS · 21/01/2014 22:22

mogz yeah growth spurt is what mine is having I think- he was so fussy this avo so I put him on the boob despite him only having fed shortly before and he fussed and pulled off like there was no milk and I had a momentary panic thinking my milk had dried up! (Expressed 4oz later so think I'm ok!)

alyssa I'm so done with having any more- can you imagine 4 under 6?? Yikes! I didn't get on with the injection tho and thinking of the coil despite not wanting to go through the discomfort of having it fitted... Shock

violetbean · 22/01/2014 09:47

Hey all, haven't posted for a while although have been posting on the FB group (newbies, let us know if you want to join!).

DS1 is 6 weeks now and we are getting some cute smiles which just about make up for the hours he spends on the boob. I'm still in loads of pain - my CS scar isn't healing properly and my nips hurt after feeding (suspect Reynauds but we are trying to improve latch to see if it's that).

Hope you all have a lovely day!

CrispyCrochet · 22/01/2014 10:23

Hi mumofthreeboys I'm trying to decide which contraception to go for as well. I'm trying to decide between the coil & the implant. The injection you have to go every 3 months & I'm not sure I can be arsed with that. I was basically trying to decide which would be less uncomfortable out of the two. A friend of mine had her implant changed (taken out of one arm and a new one put in the other arm) a few months ago and her arms looked awful. Shock Although I'm sure the coil is uncomfortable too I just sort of imagine it isn't as bad.

Violetbean I'm getting some smiles today too although I'm not sure if they are "real" smiles or not. But they are still cute so I don't mind. Hey, isn't 6 weeks when babies are magically meant to start sleeping through the night! unlikely

MrsShrubs · 22/01/2014 12:17

Went to my first mother & baby group yesterday and was so happy, everyone was so friendly & welcoming to us. James was a lot younger than those there but then another girl came with her daughter who is a day younger than him so that was fab. Been suggested a session at the local library which is only half hour long & is nursery rhymes but I may wait till he's slightly older for that one. How's everyone else's experiences?

I think I'm going to just go back to the pill. Funny how all we wanted to do was get pregnant for months and right now it's the last thing I want to do!

froubylou · 22/01/2014 14:01

Hello all.

Well after a tough day yesterday have had a lovely night and day so far. Seb was in his sling from 9.30am until 1pm. Had a boob, a nappy change then a big poo and on his second boob. So glad. Felt really frazzled yesterday.

Finally spent an hour going through my wardrobe and got all my non maternity clothes out. Hopefully some will fit. Need to do something about this extra weight. Am 2 stone heavier and was a stone overweight before I got pg so got 3 to lose. Usually I can drop weight off by starving myself and switching lager to vodka but can't do that bfing obviously. Not drinking should help but stopping smoking wont have.

I don't know whether to do the mun and baby groups. Didn't with dd but I could do with getting out and about a bit more. Would like to do mum and baby swimming but don't think costume will fit over boobs! Am currently a 36l. Mahosive big knockers lol.

And I have a boil at the top of my inner thigh. Feckin hurts but don't want to take anti bios unless I really have to so keep doing hot compress' s on it. Ouch.

Alyssa1978 · 22/01/2014 14:45

Lol crispy my last 2 slept all night from 10/11 weeks but don't think number 3 is gonna do that.

mum think I'd cry a river if I found out I was having number 4 Shock

Well Lleytons 6 week check was great but mine was cancelled, she said they'd sent a letter but I never received one, so mines not until Monday now. All age kept saying to me was "use protection* as I don't want the blame for delaying your check for a few days for you becoming pregnant again lol

Lleyton is starting to drain 4oz now so I think we will go up to 5 tomorrow. Although every night at 6 or 7 he always drinks about 6oz, I think he's topping up for the night but just forgetting to sleep through lol Grin

CrispyCrochet · 22/01/2014 17:46

Mrs I'm thinking of going to some mum & baby groups from next week. At this stage I feel it's mostly for me to get out of the house. I'm sure Thomas would likely sleep for the majority of the class.

froub I'm at such an awkward place clothing wise. Mat clothes are way too big so I've put them all away but my pre-pregnancy clothes are too small or just don't really suit my shape. Plus finding tops that work for nursing are a pain. I've bought a few nursing tops but they are all so low cut! Just because my boobs are bigger doesn't mean I want to show them off!!

My mum is here visiting from America but leaves on Sunday. With having a December baby & then mum coming for 2 weeks I've had very little time by myself with baby. I'm looking forward to trying to get into our own schedule & routine.

clare8allthepies · 22/01/2014 18:18

Going to have to start doing something about my weight, had a guy come round to give me a removals quote who enquired about the baby and then congratulated me on being pregnant again so soon Sad
