Just checking in before bed. Not caught up properly too busy poking but notice:

Poor PRs LO has smashed her mouth. Ouch hope the teeth are ok,

And horrid news Pass. It sure puts worries over milk into perspective.

You must love that rat Kyz!

I am glad I am not alone in having a baby that, once awake, will not go back in its bed. Tonight though, he is welcome in with me as he cut his forehead tonight. Not deep enough for stitches, but a big lump and some blood. He is also coughing much, poor thing.

Night night quiche x

Hello all. Pass sorry to hear about your colleague - her poor son Sad its so sad for those left behind. I found out my A level English teacher died today. He can't have been old? in my head where I'm still 17.

Fruit good luck on operation sleep I think your progress sounds awesome. We're back on a pretty good sleep phase (touch wood!) after two of the worst months of sleep he's ever had. I think the good sleep is just due to him being in good health, his reflux being in control and his latest teeth having cut through - it's nothing we've done as his routine is unchanged. The only time I can guarantee bad sleep is if we chop and change his bedtime / bedtime routine or if he falls asleep one place and then we drive home and try to put him to bed - that really unsettles him - but usually upset seems to be tooth related. It's a tough age. Can you get DH to help? If I can't get J to settle after a night feed DH will walk with him until he snoozes (it usually only takes ten mins but if I'm knackered after a night feed it helps to share the burden and I'm often too tired to put the work in Blush ). Good luckThanks

Isles v exciting on the MIP. I think you're epic managing freelance, a fulltime job and being a Mum. I bet you can't wait for the chance of compressed hours.

I put J to sleep tonight by 8pm then had to join a teleconference to discuss a fecking database which only finished 10 minutes ago. Am so glad tomorrow is 'just' a Mummy day - my brain is fried. Off to bed already in case the bear determines another early start. There's a distinct odour of cat poo coming from somewhere upstairs - will look for it in the morning (classy bird eh?).

Passmethecrisps · 13/01/2014 22:13

I would wait for DH to notice

YellowWellies · 13/01/2014 22:19

DH noticed before me.... it's possibly in a cupboard in the bear's room and I can't be arsed cleaning it in the dark. It'll be dry and easier to pick up in the morning eh?

Glad to hear of good Dad days. DH has had J one day a weekend from July to November so I could freelance he has his own the wrong way of doing things and I do trust him now as J has lots of fun with DH even if he does things differently wrong Wink

BigPigLittlePig · 13/01/2014 22:21

Haha brilliant Pass! Classy indeed.

Interesting chat re: domestic dad skillz. Am trying to teach dh, mainly through him learning by his mistakes, why certain things don't work, eg. Too much sugar, short freqient naps in the car, allowing he kids to get too hungry. He is getting there, veeery slowly. He has requested that I write a list with times on, as he finds heuunderestimates how long things take.

Operatin sleep for f tonight has included double dose omeprazole, double the number of pillows, and calpol. So far so good. But he night is young.

BigPigLittlePig · 13/01/2014 22:24

Spoke too soon. Now sat on bedroom floor settling shrieky baby.

TheDetective · 13/01/2014 22:52

I can report that DP is doing a pretty decent job with O :) Much to my surprise!

There are lots of things I'd do differently, but I am glad if I come home and everyone is alive, and the house hasn't fallen down.

I do get a massive rage if the breakfast dishes are still on the table at 10pm!! though! Dp doens't seem to be able to clear the dining room table of shit!

DP is excellent with O's routine, and needs etc. But then he has had a lot of time at home due to having 3 months paternity leave, and working 2.5 days a week. I see him trying to copy the things I do. It's quite sweet!

I do wish he would take O out a little more though, as there is a shit tonne of groups around here to go to, and he could fill every morning if he wanted to. Then have the afternoon nap time to himself, and do any errands late afternoon. That is how I try to do it. Eg, I'm off on a 6 day stretch Shock at the moment. Tomorrow I plan to go swimming with him in the morning, then home for lunch, nap, and when he wakes I wake him we need to pop out to look at wallpapers, and possible do a test drive of a car.

DP has taken him to the weekly group I try to get to, and has taken him swimming, park, soft play etc, but usually it is my suggestions, which he quickly agrees to. Just wish for him to use his initiative more often. Particularly as O doesn't go to nursery, I feel socialising is important for us!.

Anyway, I can't moan, I don't worry when I'm not here, and that is all I can really ask for!

Oh, DP has asked me to make a meal planner as he finds lunch ideas difficult. As in the other day I was on a study day. O had smoked sausage at lunch, but as I arrived home, DP was preparing him sausage and mash for tea! He tends to make the same things over and over. So I'm going to put a list of things together for him. Or maybe it would be just easier to do a 7 day planner for him of the things we have in. Dunno!

flouncymcflouncerson · 13/01/2014 22:53

isles don't worry about only seeing her for a short time. When I'm back at work doing my on calls I won't see the kids from 8am one morning until 6pm ish the following night! I'm also the one fucking off to Mexico for a week!

lily I think you asked about Malta??? I stayed in a small residential village called swieqi (pronounced Sweehee!) which was a ten minute walk from st Julian's and paceville which is the busy district. St Julian's and paceville is the happening place to be. Quawra (I think it's spelled like that, pronounced owra) is smaller and it neighbours the even smaller buggiba. Good for families supposedly .

flouncymcflouncerson · 13/01/2014 22:57

Also would like to moan about Js non existent sleep pattern or bedtime etc. It just does not work with him. DH has already been up once and he's only been up there for 90 mins!!

fruitpastilles · 14/01/2014 05:36

Morning! Well, last night went very well. S didn't wake until 1.30! It was just a quick dummy inset and handhold and she went back to sleep, I was out of bed 5 mins max. Then she woke at 5:07 and looked very ready to start the day, I gave her a cuddle until she was dropping back off, then put her back in her cot and held her hand until she'd gone back to sleep, this only took about 5 mins aswell. So I've had a baby free bed all night and actually got some sleep aswell. I feel very refreshed. Dp is up for work so now I have the whole bed to myself and will starfish until S wakes for the day. Smile

Zamboni · 14/01/2014 05:58

FX on the MIP isles

Well done on the sleep fruit

yw did you find the source of the poo smell?

pass sad news about your colleague. Great that it has fallen into place with DH and P though.

My DH is fab with the DC and their routines. Like det's DP, he would feed them the same thing fish fingers and beans all the time for convenience, and has to be nagged to go to a play group, but they are v happy at home with him and he's a wonderful Dad. He is ready to run out to work each night when I get home though! It took a while and there are still good days and bad, but he 's been SAHD 3 days a week for 2.5 years with DD and since May with them both.

Well I have had a shitty night. S managed to stay in his cot until 5am although woke numerous times and I just got I there quickly enough to do a dummy inset. This also constitutes a late wake up. So it was the perfect opportunity to sleep well. But I feel awful. My uvula is so swollen it is hanging down far enough to be triggering my gag reflex every time I move! I feel like I am going to swallow it! Urg. GP apt for me.

Sophiathestormfairy · 14/01/2014 06:58

pass that is v Sad.

isles fx on MIP for you. Don't worry about just seeing M at the end of the day, sometimes when you are frazzled and she is tired. That was my day when I was at work and hopefully if my call on thurs goes to plan I will have three days a week of it. Once she grows and becomes more interactive then you can make more of the time you do have together.

Ok, so some of you have seem my terrible injury! In short I was racing doing frog bounces (at aerobics which now seems to have turned into so e kind of circuity rugby training malarkey since we have a stand in chap teacher) up the room, which is carpeted and lost my balance, at the end so going some speed, and skidded across the carpet. Both knees and both elbows carpet burned and bruised. But the right one is horrendous. I am taking advice and leaving it uncovered as long as poss. I have track suit bottoms on at the mo so is ok but it will have to have a dressing on it when I put jeans on later. I woke up in the night and I had stuck to the sheet with that clear fluid stuff leaking out of it. Just horrible.

Kyz · 14/01/2014 07:08

Morning all! Brew all round (except for fruit who doesn't need one, woohoo!--but can have one anyway). Shitty night here, coughing spluttering high temp baby, lovely. Bless him. He's in bed now and I usually wake him at 7 but will leave him today I think.

I also hope the rat is ok, he is only 8 weeks old, found himself on the receiving end of a bigger set of teeth, poor mite. Usually they heal very well but he was bitten through his foot and he's not holding it right so we suspect a break. If he were old or coping better I'd just try antibiotics and make sure it was kept clean/give pain meds but he's so young and it would be a shame for him to lose the leg if I can act quickly and save it. They don't usually fight btw, and the odd bite is quite normal when you first introduce them, this is just a bit of an extreme case!

Bless you isles try not to feel too bad

pass how lovely to come home to a relaxed scene! :) enjoying the dad chat, dp is very good with e but I have trouble letting him take control. He doesn't feed him often, he does do the bottle at night but I struggle letting people feed e because I always worry he's not getting enough. On the odd occasion he does feed him though e usually eats well as long as I am not there so I perhaps shouldn't worry. I must say I thought my issue with dp always would be his patience or lack thereof but actually he's really surprised me!

Also good for you to get home to happy people isles :)

det I'm not sure my dp could manage taking e out somewhere like swimming on his own lol! Well I don't think he could but then if I ask him to he would probably go and see how he was. He takes him out for walks/general errands/to see family so does manage in general out of the house with him. Swimming would boggle him though, like how is he supposed to get himself and a baby ready/changed?! Especially afterwards, when wet! He would be sorely confused I think

Oh vq poor j! Hope his head is alright

zamboni my morning brain totally did not read vulva instead of uvula. Nope. Idiot! Me that is not you. Made for an interesting read though! Hope you feel better soon :(

Eek sophia sounds really painful! Hope you're fixed soon

Sophiathestormfairy · 14/01/2014 07:15

Not as painful as your rat injury kyz and the damage to your bank account. I hope he is ok .xx

YellowWellies · 14/01/2014 08:03

I've been on a poo hunt... I didn't find a big one.... God knows!!! Confused

flouncymcflouncerson · 14/01/2014 08:05

yw I'm now hearing the bear hunt song but with poo hunt in place.

Evilwater · 14/01/2014 08:13

Well sorry to hear of all the saddness of not getting LO to sleep. It does take a while and of the vet bills.

To all those with poorly babies [cuppa]

N is teething here too, but is always affects him when they are moving underneath the surface. I gave him calpol at half six, so he was pain free when he went to sleep.

He is something funny Grin N was at baby group yesterday, wondering around as usual, and he turned to look at me, and smiled. He then faced the way he was walking and bang. Walked straight into the table. Yep, he even seen it 2 minutes earlier. Grin

How I kept a straight face I'll never know. Grin

Evil

PetiteRaleuse · 14/01/2014 08:14

Morning quiche. LO and me having a duvet day. She's coughing a lot and has a temperature. She was under the limit for nursery but I am at home, it's better for her to be ill with me. I have the cold too. It's not a particularly bad one, so far. I am a tad worried about her cough though. I hope it doesn't develop into the B word. She's breathing and eating ok for now though so no point in taking her in. Just put her down for an early nap with the humidifier doing its job. She is teething too :( DD1 was so easy for teeth.

PetiteRaleuse · 14/01/2014 08:16

sophia there are some really good antisceptic sprays for children that don't sting.

Sophiathestormfairy · 14/01/2014 08:44

Thanks pr I am off to a big Sainbos today so I will ask at the pharmacy. Thing of you and hoping you both recover soon. Xx

PetiteRaleuse · 14/01/2014 08:48

Meant to add if you spray it, let it dey naturally and try not to cover it up it should heal quite quickly. V painful though you have my sympathy.

On Sunday I sliced a finger open on the jagged bit of a clingfilm box. Not a big cut but bloody painful on the day.

Jims · 14/01/2014 08:50

Pass - that's really sad news about your colleague. I have a friend on facebook (friend of a friend in Rl) who has a son who has recently been diagnosed with a brain tumour. He's a tiny bit younger than my ds1. It just makes you appreciate how lucky you are when things like that happen.

Bedtimes here are ok. I don't know whether it would help but F can take ages and ages to go to sleep with one of us there. However he screams the place down when we leave. But usually only for a few mins. So we kind of leave him to it now (bad mummy). When he wakes we try sticking the tunes from his monitor on and sshhing him overvthat which now works most of the time. Sadly he seems to have inherited his brother's tendancy to run around like a loon when he's tired. We had a split lip as a result two nights ago. Milk still in a bottle as he won't drink it from a cup.

Isles - good luck with the MIP. Are you still on probation period with the new job? You may find you need to work through that. No judgment at all intended re your DP but you may wish to check with your solicitor when buying about how to make sure you only have a claim to your house. In england if contributions to the mortgage are paid by a non-owner, there can be a legal claim although it gets messy.

Can also report that mothercare customer service was v good in tge long running buggy saga. Now have brand new mclaren xt as an exchange for a no longer needed broken travel system buggy. The question is whether we use the new stroller or sell it. We have an ancient xt already from ds1 that i got from ebay. The brakes are def starting to fail though...

Zamboni · 14/01/2014 09:07

GP diagnosed viral throat infection Hmm. But stated it was not possible to swallow my uvula. Grin

Still on annual leave today. Can't see a miraculous recovery in 24 hours. Hate calling in sick; hate being sick at work and everyone thinking "just fuck off and be unwell at home".

Before I had DC I had had one instance of being off sick in my career. Now it's several days each year.

Hopefully by school age we will all have bulletproof immune systems.

BrewThanks All round

PetiteRaleuse · 14/01/2014 09:24

I hope so (immune systems) I am sick of illness it is fucking dull.
