Hello ladies,

Thought I would start you off. We can just keep this a stats thread until we all deliver and then move across if you like.

I'm another one already in bed, and addicted to chocolate! I'm counting calories on myfitnesspal and Cadburys creme egg is my most eaten item! Oops! I've given it up until Easter as we're going to visit family and I know they will have bought me some eggs, I figure if I don't eat any for 10 days I can stuff my face over Easter, right?

Tarka that's great! How many weeks is Alex?

FelixFelix · 09/04/2014 21:10

Enormouse I've just been reading the advice on here and I'm going to try blw at 6 months. Can't be arsed faffing around with blending stuff! I don't know if I'll freak out with all the mess though Shock

TobyLerone · 09/04/2014 21:26

The hv said to me yesterday, "Have you heard of baby-led weaning? I don't suppose it was a thing when you had your older children?"

I said, "Well, back then we just called it 'giving the child some food'."

Excellent work, Tarkaling :o

FelixFelix · 09/04/2014 21:30

Ha!!!

TarkaTheOtter · 09/04/2014 21:35

Alex is 15 weeks today. I think he must really hate tummy time. He did it once and I thought it must be a fluke so I put him back on his tummy and he did it again.
We did BlW with DD and it was definitely the easy option for me. I do wonder though if it has contributed to dds fussiness about wet foods (eg casserole or things in sauces) and will try to do a more mixed approach this time I think.planning to just mash rather than purée though. I found that BLW was tough at first because other babies seemed to be eating loads of purée and dd barely picked up anything, but after a couple of months it came into its own because we didn't have to worry about her refusing different textures.

TarkaTheOtter · 09/04/2014 21:37

Toby Grin

I met Gill Rapley at a charity event. She takes weaning VERY seriously.

enormouse · 09/04/2014 21:57

felix blending stuff is a pain the arse. I was still finding unidentifiable ice cubes of odd coloured goo in the freezer months after I gave up.

tarka I think DS was 8 or 9 months old when he really got into eating stuff.

I do have Gill Rapleys book. I found it useful if slightly over reliant on anecdotal evidence. I preferred it to the Annabel Karmel one I bought first.

enormouse · 09/04/2014 21:58

Toby Grin I love the saga of you and your hv.

pumpkinsweetie · 09/04/2014 22:08

I say feed them when they are ready, whether that be 4 months or 5,6,7+. Worked for my girls, I don't get all this wait until 6m faff, if baby wants food, let them have it. If they don't wait until ready.
Us mums know best!
Out of my 4, dd1 started weaning at 4m and other 2 around 5 months. Dd4 on the other hand cba with eating until 7m and she still doesn't really like proper food nowGrin

My night has consisted of eating a whole bag of mini eggs and copius amounts of teaGrin and I now feel slightly sick!. Slaps own wristBlush
Now baby pumpkin is settled in her crib a nice bubbly bath is to be had by me.
Gosh I'm getting old

FelixFelix · 09/04/2014 22:38

Pumpkin what signs should I look out for so I know she's ready? I'm really worried about reading her wrong an starting too early! I know you have a lot of experience with this Grin

TobyLerone · 09/04/2014 22:44

I weaned DS at 4 months on medical advice, but I'm definitely waiting until at least 6 months with Meredith. So much more research has been done since DS was born (he'll be 15 this year!) and I'm in no hurry.

TobyLerone · 09/04/2014 22:46

Gill Rapley. That's the one. She told me to get a book. I nodded and smiled. I'm pretty sure I know how to steam a carrot stick :o

pumpkinsweetie · 09/04/2014 22:55

I normally look out for them being hungry continually after feeds and still not being satisfied when bottles are upped, from around 4 months-7m this happens. Obviously baby rice first and see how that goes.

I don't understand how all baby's conform to the ideals of hvs and gov these days. Not all babys can wait until 6m, neither do all babys sit unaided at 6m or walk at 12m etc. The same goes for these charts of weight, yes sometimes there may be a problem but 9 times out of 10 baby's are just unique in size!

None of my dc as babies reached miletones at the same rate. It's unfortunate some Hvs don't see this and like to make us worry. I'm lucky my new hv is rather nice, the one I had with pfb was a whole different kettle of fishGrin. She had me and my pfb have a doctors report and check as she wasn't walking by 13m. Being a first time mum under that woman made me worry like a trooper. She even made personal digs about not liking my dog or the colour of my xmas treeShock
Even one time telling me that i should make more of an effort to get her father involved even though he didn't want to know! Amazingly enough she is now a social workerShock

FelixFelix · 09/04/2014 23:24

Ah yes it seems like a lot of us have experienced worries from not following the doctors charts! I will have a good read up on weaning. I'd like to think we can leave it as close to 6 months as possible, but if not I'd probably check with a HV or GP first. I'll be so scared the first time she eats real food Blush

Pidgy · 10/04/2014 00:09

Glad I wasn't the only one in bed early. Starting watching some shit on tv which I'm now regretting as Lara has been up twice already and it's only 12. Oh, and now there are some foxes shagging outside. Great!

pumkin ooh, mini eggs are my weakness. Never last long in this house!

I did mainly purees but some steamed veg and 'food'. Not sure I did it right as DS is a fussy bugger and wasn't great with lumps for ages. He wasn't this fussy at the start though so I think it's a bit of a power thing as he realises how much it bugs me despite me trying to remain calm when he's lobbing food he doesn't want around the room.
Weaned him at about 5 months as the doctor advised it as he was so sicky. It didn't help and then I just had actual sick which is a whole lot worse.

Aww, Lara just laughed in her sleep! So cute!!

I have another sore throat!
Sad Pribably means another cold. DS is a germ factory.

Pidgy · 10/04/2014 00:16

I'm lucky with my new hv. She's really nice.

I seemed to have a few where we previously lived. They weren't offensive but gave conflicting advice at the clinics.

pumkin, 13 months isn't that late for walking!! DS was over this and he's fine!
Lara still doesn't hold her head up that well at all which is lateish according to some milestones I've read but she'll get there. She hates tummy time so I don't really bother. You don't often see a 2 year old will a wobbly head (unless with some other developmental problems), so I'm not stressing. Just have to warn people when they hold her so she doesn't bag her head on anything!

FizzypopFireball · 10/04/2014 05:06

Hello everyone, just wondered if I could join in the chat? I followed you all during the pregnancy threads where you saved my sanity so many times, and this postnatal thread seems to be helping too!

My first DS was born 6/1 and was just a shade under 10 pounds. He's continued to grow steadily with me ebf, which is great but he's constantly hungry! I've just become fb friends with my NCT group, and all their posts are about babies sleeping through the night and rolling over from back to front... Argh! You can probably tell from the time of my post that a full night's sleep is still a dream. I felt I needed a slightly more realistic perspective, so have finally registered.

Oh yes, and I definitely don't do sparkles! Wink

TobyLerone · 10/04/2014 06:50

Welcome, fizzy :)

Well done for keeping up with the BFing. It's hard when they feed a lot, but I still don't reckon it's anywhere near as hard as FFing!

Rolling from back to front at 3 months old would seem a little unusual, to say the least. And you won't find much sleeping through the night here!

MrsVDB · 10/04/2014 07:29

Welcome fizzy

Yes after our amazing 11-6 last night was back to normal (up at 4 had 6). Still not awful so shouldn't complain but was hoping we'd cracked it through doing nothing different!

TobyLerone · 10/04/2014 07:50

How are things with you, MrsV?

FelixFelix · 10/04/2014 08:07

Welcome fizzy! Smile

pumpkinsweetie · 10/04/2014 08:11

Welcome fizzy, rolling over from back to front Grin sounds like bragging to me lol. My baby pumpkin hasn't even learnt to roll on to her side yet!

It's a shame some people like to compete with their babies and turn it into a race. They all get there in their own time.

Naturegirl82 · 10/04/2014 08:18

We had a random 2am feed this morning which has made my sore throat worse. Still aiming to go into work tpday to see people as it's on my way to my friends. Bit nervous about it for some reason.

Does anyone know how much damage using softener does to reusables? One of my inserts got left in the washing machine and washed with the next load yesterday. I've rewashed it without softener but wonder if it was ruined now?

Naturegirl82 · 10/04/2014 08:18

Welcome fizzy

TobyLerone · 10/04/2014 08:22

It won't be ruined at all, nature. Fabric softener just coats the fibres and makes things less absorbent, but if you've rewashed it it'll be fine :)
