How scary fly and at least it wasn't serious humpty ;)

fly I'm going to the lunch next week too so see you there :) I feel like I should wear a red rose or something for easy spotting ha ha

Henry has dry skin, not sure it's eczema and I've been putting coconut oil on it, the solid stuff. It's made such a difference. Wish id ignored the hv who told me not to put anything on it as it got gradually worse

Henry has his jabs this morning and I also have my 6w check (at 8w). I feel like crap, maybe tonsillitis so not looking forward to it

Swannykazoo · 04/04/2014 09:15

Good tip with the oats - trying to balance loving taking little puggle swimming against the fatc it dries his skin to a crisp. Do any of you co-sleepers have a thrasher? He's sometimes not even awake, just thrashing arms (usually against my poor nipples) and thrashing and rubbing head (ditto). Started about a week ago when he was 13 weeks and is somewhat tiresome to say the least
baby that is not DH he just thieves the sodding duvet off my feet then complains the room is too hot

enormouse · 04/04/2014 10:29

pidgy I got a great leaflet from the ezcema society when I took DS1 to the dermatologist advising which treatments to use, differences between them and how different skin types respond. If oilatum isn't agreeing with her (it doesn't for me but is wonderful on DS1) maybe she needs a more creamy formulation like e45 or aveeno body wash. The aveeno wash is fantastic, it's a soap free gel which is none drying. It's works wonders on my skin but you might want to wait till she's older to use it.

I've also tried lushs dream cream and e45 with some success but find aveeno to work best on my dry eczema.

Oh and if her skin is broken at all or inflamed you might need to be prescribed a mild steroid.

becca welcome! I have a 3 yr old DD who is a terror and doesn't sleep and a 3 month old boy who does, so I completely relate about the older one still taking up more time and effort. Also a SAHM which sometimes I like and sometimes I hate but will be going back to work soon hopefully because I get stuck in a rut too easily.

million hugs. Hope you get your appointment through soon and I'm glad you got a lovely hv.

toby you are freaking me out again with the similarities, but then again redheads and eczema go together like white on rice. Grin When I found out the cost of aveeno here I just used oats in N's bath for the first month, until his skin improved. I used to whizz the oats in the blender attachment first for extra milkiness and also used to put them in a clean pop sock or foot of old tights which I found a bit easier than tied muslin.

Well, DH got his doctorate, no one (so far) has died and I haven't even properly lost my temper. BIL leaving tomorrow so will be able to breathe, wear pyjamas all day and bf on the sofa again.

pidgy i was just using normal porridge oats, nothing special.

Puggle we had thrashing at around the 13/14 week mark when she suddenly realised she had arms Grin It was when she was still sleeping in between us in the cocoonababy so we were constantly getting punched in the face through the night, and it was a struggle to get her to go to sleep and feed her as she would just wave her arms around like crazy. She seems to have calmed down now though and has stopped doing it!

alteredimages · 04/04/2014 12:05

Haha felix, same here though thankfully not cosleeping. N has suddenly turned into a crazy windmill. Also enjoyed bashing at toys on his playmat for the first time today, so there is a good side. Not for the neighbours though, because he wouldn't stop squealing. Smile

N had the rotarix vaccine on wednesday and is still pooing a lot. At least three poonamis, which we haven't had before. How long does it usually take for their stomachs to settle?

Also was weighed and measured. Has not grown, head circumference the same but has been putting on weight normally. I know this is a bit pfb of me, but is it something to worry about when his weight goes from 25th to 75th percentile at the same time his height goes from 25th to off the bottom of the charts? He is ebf, sleeping through the night and only feeding every three to four hours during the day so I don't think I can be overfeeding him. He is 5.86kg and 56cm at three months. I don't think DD who was born exactly the same weight and length reached this weight til around five months.

enormouse · 04/04/2014 12:14

altered Cal had his rotarix on Tuesday and is still doing the odd epic poo. The hv (just round now, no idea she was due to visit Blush) said if it's still going on by next week to pop into the gps. But if he's bright, alert and feeding well don't be unduly worried.

Hi becca sorry I didn't say hi before. I am shattered. I have a nearly 2.5 yr old DS and a 2 month old DS (Cal).

Had such a bad night and DS1 is being a terror.

Pidgy · 04/04/2014 12:37

Been prescribed Aveeno cream and bath oil for her. Fingers crossed it works. I already had the steroid cream from our last trip to the dr. That works wonders for reducing the redness but I'm loathed to keep using it as I've heard it can thin the skin. I'll just use it to get flare ups under control. Plus, it didn't moisturise all that much as I used it 'sparingly' as they said to.

altered I wouldn't worry about the height. My hv told me it's not an exact science and difficult to do accurately. DS jumped around A LOT on the height percentiles. One time I could see that one leg looked much longer than the other as he was lying in a funny way. Low and behold, he was up to the 91st %. DH got all excited that he'd be tall but the next time he was at the 50th!
Glad you're getting your space back too!!

Lara does have a red tinge to her hair so maybe that explains the eczema! I did have it as a child but grew out of it. It returned once when I was really stressed at work.

Lara is quite thrashy too! She batted some toys today for the first time and I caught her staring at her hands yesterday.

Right, time to clear up and then go for a walk in this nice weather.

alteredimages · 04/04/2014 12:43

Thanks enormouse. I'm not so much worried as unable to keep up with the laundry. This morning he leaked all over our bed and he has run out of vests. Just took them out of the machine and they are all now poo stained! Luckily they are getting too small anyway.

toby I remember you are using LL bamboo nappies. I have bought some size 2 popolini wraps, so now I am trying to decide how many nappies I need. I will be using them as a night time nappy, and using the LL OSFA pocket nappy during the day. How many do you usually go through in a 24 hour period? Trying to save as much as possible, but also don't want to be caught short!

beccajoh · 04/04/2014 13:16

Pidgy my oldest had a bit of eczema when she was young and I found the bath oil made her skin worse. She was always bright red when she came out of the bath when we used it. We didn't bother with it after the first couple of baths.

I can't believe we're almost done with the newborn bit! Archie will be 3 months on 16th April . He's outgrowing his Moses basket quite rapidly, queue major panic because we have to change all the bedrooms around so he can go in DD's cot. Unfortunately she's still sleeping in it! We've arranged for PIL to have both children all day Sunday so we can get everything sorted. We've got a toddler bed for DD but there's not really room for it in her current bedroom (box room) so she's going in the second bedroom, which is currently home to a desk, computer, two book shelves, double bed, all DH's office equipment a filing, a chest of drawers and HUGE amounts of junk. We have a day to declutter, dismantle and remove all the furniture, assemble DD's new bed and make the room ready for her, and then move DH's desk/computer/office stuff into the box room. But we can do that right? Two parents with a whole day child-free = super efficiency! (I hope!)

TobyLerone · 04/04/2014 14:03

I started with 20 LL bamboo. I now have closer to 30 because of an issue with the elastic meaning they had to replace some (but let me keep the knackered ones).

They take ages to dry, so I couldn't really get away with fewer than 20 at this point. We maybe use 8 (and 3 wraps) in 24 hrs.

Swannykazoo · 04/04/2014 14:32

Hi altered I'm another cloth user. It slightly depends if you can be bothered to wash every day (I can't!) and how you plan to dry nappies. I use bumgenius during the day - on average 5 per day, (little puggle is 14 weeks) use totsbots bamaboozles and wrap at night - rarely anything other than 1. I wash every 2nd day but the bumgenius are slow drying inside - though I do get them done in a few hours on a good highland windy day outside. I could "get away" with 15 day nappies and prob 4 night nappies but I don't like worrying about there being enough dry so I have 20 (I think) daytime and 6 night time (came in packs of 3) - means I can alsways keep one in the change bag etc etc

I've just had a yuck moment similar to book. DH was passing little puggle from his shoulder to my shoulder. An unexpected and well timed vom meant he actually vommed breastmilk into my mouth. Yuck!

alteredimages · 04/04/2014 14:43

Thanks toby. I think ten will be plenty then for night time/round the house. I will be using them more in a couple of months time because I will go straight for size 2s which won't fit yet. I think the Egyptian sun should dry them quite quickly. I want to buy lots of different colours for the pocket nappies but I think it will be safer to choose boring white. Or perhaps yellow, for the poonamis. Grin

alteredimages · 04/04/2014 14:49

Oh no puggle! DD vommed in DH's mouth when she was little and he still hasn't forgotten about it three years later! I am going to get 12 daytime nappies and 10 nighttime ones. We had bedbugs last year, so I tend to do at least one wash a day anyway. I am being very sad and getting all excited about changing to cloth. Will see if I still like it when I am scraping poo into the toilet!

I am jealous of your windy Highland days. I was born and brought up in Scotland but haven't been back in five years. Sad

TobyLerone · 04/04/2014 15:11

10 ought to be plenty. And they're great at night, btw.
The sun is great for bleaching out stains, too.

FelixFelix · 04/04/2014 15:20

Vom in mouth ShockShockShock

After not being remotely interested in any toys at all, suddenly today Sylvie has been trying to grab them and put them in her mouth! She hasn't quite mastered grasping and holding on to them though so just ends up with her hands in her mouth looking confused Grin

AMillionNameChangesLater · 04/04/2014 15:40

altered (think it was you) Henry has his rotavirus on wed and had a poonami and then threw up all over me this morning. He's spent the day sleeping or being sick. So i think this is jabs related. He isn't dehydrated, just frustrating that he isn't keeping milk down.

today he's out in 0-3 month clothes for the very first time! Leggings and t shirt from Asda. Still a little big, but it's progress. I feel comfortable saying he's straddling the up to 1 month/newborn clothes and 0-3 months. I'm crazily excited about it, it feels like progress

FelixFelix · 04/04/2014 15:44

Million it's definitely progress! I bet he looks cute in his next size clothes Smile

enormouse · 04/04/2014 15:59

That's wonderful million. Cals done about 3 enormous poos today which I thinks down to the rotarix.

Go sylvie. Maybe the wrist and ankle finder rattles would be fun for her.

puggle I vommed on my sister's face as a baby and she still remembers it 25 years later

FelixFelix · 04/04/2014 16:07

Enormouse I was thinking about buying some of those. Where would I get them from?

FelixFelix · 04/04/2014 16:09

Ignore me I found some on amazon!

Angelesque · 04/04/2014 16:21

Does anyone have any tips for expressing? I've been trying to express with an electric pump this afternoon but only managed about 10ml. The first time I tried it I got 120ml out no probs. I know the afternoon isn't the best time to do it as your breasts aren't as full but 3.30pm was the first time today I got DS to leave my arms but am I fighting a losing battle to get anything out?

Am going to the dinner bit of a hen do (ie the sedate part!) tomorrow evening and I really want to relax and not worry about DS feeding - trying to leave DH with at least 200ml even though I'n only going to be away for about 2 1/2 hours...

TarkaTheOtter · 04/04/2014 16:38

Can you express from the other side whilst ds is feeding, if not try just after. Best time to do it will be tomorrow morning first thing.

beccajoh · 04/04/2014 17:06

First thing in the morning if you can, whilst you're feeding or straight after. I used to feed DD, and DH would do nappy changing and dressing whilst held the pump to the boob with one hand and ate my porridge with the other.

Angelesque · 04/04/2014 18:54

Thanks - DH is back from work trip tonight so will enlist his help tomorrow morning - he can be in charge of sterilising, I'll bring the nipples
