Hi all! toby hope you feel better soon.
right now I'm sitting next to ds1 on the stairs. Dunno why, but it seems to make him happy.

we've had a good few nights sleep, just getting Henry to sleep is taking a lot of effort. He's not been sleeping during the day properly which means he hasn't been going to sleep at night easily. It takes about 45 mins to settle him, once he's asleep in his cot he's down for a good few hours.
tonight I've tried swaddling him and put him down with the cot mobile on. He just seems to be laughing. I know from the past few nights that he cant cope being awake too long.
now he's started to make a grumbling cry.

fryingpantoface · 24/03/2014 19:36

I went back in and stroked his nose for 10 more mins and he went to sleep!

Pidgy · 24/03/2014 20:30

The old nose stroking trick! Works on Lara too.

That's good there is a growth spurt around this time - feels like we're going backwards but that makes sense.

Oh no, she's awake. :-(
Already!!

FelixFelix · 24/03/2014 20:55

The nose stroking trick still works on me after 23 years Grin

Sylvie had her second lot of jabs today and she cried for about a minute then was fine. She's having tummy problems again though Hmm poos are soft but she can't seem to push them out resulting in lots of straining and screaming all day. I think I'll have to take her to the GP but last time he asked if she was still going, which I replied yes but only after hours and hours of screaming (and a cotton bud up the bum far too often than id like) and he didn't seem interested as she had actually managed to poo eventually. So annoying Sad

Swannykazoo · 24/03/2014 21:11

Must remember the nappy wrap tonight Blush

fryingpantoface · 24/03/2014 21:12

Henry's first jabs are next Wednesday, he'll be 12 weeks because the tb jab was given when he was 8 weeks.

I'm going to Sheffield in a few weeks (11 April, overnight) anyone know what there is to do? We're meeting up with my brother who we haven't seen in 3 years. He'll meet my sons :)

FelixFelix · 24/03/2014 21:55

Frying I'm from Sheffield. What sort of thing do you want to do? Like a child friendly day out? How old is your other ds?

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 24/03/2014 22:11

puggle yeah, we did that. Just once though Wink It's remarkable how much comes out the other side of a towelling/bamboo nappy eh?

toby feel better soon.

book sorry things are still crap. Hopefully they improve soon.

Alex has had a rubbish few days, I think feeling under the weather after her jabs last tues. Sleeping and eating totally gone to pot; I have sobbed every day. Think prays we are coming out the other side now finally. 4 hours sleep in 35 was not fun.
Off to introduce her to great grandma on DH's side tomorrow.
Meant to be seeing my grandmother on Thursday, but she's in a nursing home and HV said it was a bad idea before 12 weeks, risk of all those resistant viruses etc. What do you all reckon? Yea or nay?

TobyLerone · 25/03/2014 06:48

I visited an elderly neighbour in a residential care home with Meredith last week. I didn't even stop to think about it. I can't imagine many of the residents have diphtheria or polio, so you're probably ok!

fryingpantoface · 25/03/2014 07:14

humpty I'd take her, I'm sure she would be fine.

felix we are going on Friday morning and staying at the premier inn. We're meeting them for dinner at 6.30 at an all you can eat and feeding the squirrels the next day. But we need more for us to do really. Something child friendly ideally but not something which is gonna bore my student brother and his gf. Although i can't see us hanging out the whole day. We're staying at Angel St, and ds1 is 2.5

Naturegirl82 · 25/03/2014 08:05

amazing, had two nights in a row of 7-7.5 hours straight sleep. I don't for a minute think it will continue for long if at all! so I am enjoying it while I can.

Off to booby group this morning, then chilling writing sodding thank you cards for the rest of the day. Need to phone drs as well to see if O needs an appointment to get her antibiotics or if they can just write a prescription.

BandontheFun · 25/03/2014 09:04

Hey hope everyone's doing well.

Thanks for all the calpol advice on Facebook. Pretty scarry stuf yesterday. Wasn't prepared for Jab aftermath, I was a wreck! Who knew tiny babies could make so much noise, pretty restless night, she seems way better today tho!

Is everyone still seeing a health visitor....mine stopped coming about a month ago? Or do you go and visit them?

TobyLerone · 25/03/2014 09:26

My HV has only been once, to introduce herself when the midwives signed us over. I have an appointment for a 3 month check for Meredith in a couple of weeks, but that's it. And she made it clear that we don't ever have to see a HV if we don't want to. She said that they just assume everything is fine if they don't see you. Even if you don't go to the usual check-ups.

Glad Harley is feeling better today. It's horrible, isn't it?

How lovely, to get so much sleep, nature :) Hope it carries on for you.

MrsVDB · 25/03/2014 09:27

fly I missed booking onto the last lunch but have just booked a place on the china tang lunch. If your going will be good to meet you :) if any other London ladies fancy it details are below

Babies Who Lunch London will be enjoying some yummy Cantonese cuisine in one of the private dining rooms at China Tang in the Dorchester. Come and join us on Friday 11th April and enjoy a three course meal with a glass of wine for only £35 (veggie option available).

band my hv only came once and I now go to the weigh in clinic at children's centre every couple of weeks (only need to go once a month but I like to get out the house that's how sad my life is!

I've got Henry's jabs next Friday then he has his first swimming lesson on the Satutday. Not great timing

Cleaner starts today so I really should get up to have a preclean and get us dressed so I can go out when she's here and pretend I'm busy enough to justify a cleaner and not just lazy!

BandontheFun · 25/03/2014 11:03

Yeah Toby it really was.

Cool just checking. The baby clinics on Fridays. Haven't been to one yet, may go this week.

MrsV the nurse yesterday told me not to take H swimming for a week after the jabs. But think that was because of the mouth drop so urs may be different. Was going to look into swimming classes here they are £150 for the block so not sure, my niece went to some and is so confident in water now so I'm thinking it may be worth the cost.

FelixFelix · 25/03/2014 11:32

Frying will you be driving or getting the train? There's not really that much to do in the city centre with small kids unless you fancied going swimming at Ponds Forge. There's the winter gardens in the city centre which are lovely but not very exciting for a toddler! Weston Park museum is in the centre too which is small but good. I have fond memories of seeing a huge ant farm there when I was small! We took my nieces when they were tiny and they loved it as there's a lot to explore. If you're driving you could go to Graves Park (weather dependant!) which is just slightly south of the city centre. It's a big park with an animal farm and cafe. The best place you could go if you are driving and don't mind driving about 35 mins is Yorkshire Wildlife Park. It's brilliant, they have lions, tigers, zebras etc. Smile Hopefully it won't be raining as usual and you get some nice weather!

FelixFelix · 25/03/2014 11:40

Nature totally jealous of the sleep! Enjoy it Smile

I've seen a HV 4 times since Sylvie arrived! And once when I was pregnant. First one I saw post birth was shite and I really didn't like her, but the lady who came the other two times afterwards is lovely. She's a student one and is a midwife so she's really knowledgable. I don't see her again until the end of August now.

The weather is awful here today. Was going to go out for a walk as we had a long walk down to the doctors yesterday which was nice. Instead we are having a pyjama day... Got my NCT reunion on Saturday after my driving theory test and I'm not looking forward to it! I bet the rest of the ladies all look slim and fabulous Confused Must make an effort to not look like a beached whale!!!

Naturegirl82 · 25/03/2014 12:02

Argh bloody GP's! Just phoned child health services to chase up O's immunisation appointment and they hadn't been notified I cancelled the first one! So there is a 3 week lead time on the appointments (so she would have been 12 weeks old and having her 8 week jabs), but they advised to book directly with practice nurse which stupid receptionist said I couldn't do so now they have managed to squeeze her in before baby clinic on Thursday as it was their mistake. Annoying that you do everything right and still it ends up messed up!

MrsVDB · 25/03/2014 12:06

band oh that would be such a shame as it's the first lesson. What's mouth drop?

It's £120 for 10 sessions here through turtle tots which is a franchise so may have one close to you? It is pricey but hopefully worth it

pumpkinsweetie · 25/03/2014 12:21

I know what you mean nature! Gp surgeries definitely take the biscuit nowadays, my baby pumpkin is 11 weeks and she doesn't get her first jabs & 8 week check until tomorrowShock
The receptionists are like road blocks I swear it!!
And then she won't get her second lot of imms until much later as there has to be a 4 week gap between imms.

MrsVDB · 25/03/2014 13:21

Cleaner is here so I had to get out the house so walked up to children's centre to take back a breast pump I was lent and Henry cried the whole way so I asked of I could edit inside to feed him and they've put me in the sensory room. It's bloody amazing. But unfortunately Henry thinks so too so won't eat.

Also he's been called a girl twice today. He's wearing a cream and coral sleepsuit which I thought was pretty unisex but considering his face is very boyish the sleepsuit must be very girly!

pumpkinsweetie · 25/03/2014 14:05

That's a pain isn't it mrsvdb I'm lucky that baby pumpkins pram is pink!, although I have had one old lady ask whether she's a girl or boyShock and a day at the surestart centre many weeks ago, baby pumpkin wearing a blue top with a dress resulted in some thinking she was a boy!
Some peeps are nuttersWink

enormouse · 25/03/2014 14:16

MrsV people assume my boys are girls as they are quite feminine looking (long eyelashes, curly dark hair in DS1s case, quite pouty iykwim) . Once I took ds1 out wearing purple jeans and an elderly man kept calling him a her even when I kept emphasizing HE in a ridiculously over the top way.

So sorry for not being around Cals having a growth spurt and feeding 24/7. I feel like I've been run over. Yesterday he slept all day and fed all night. And I've mislaid his vaccination card and have no idea where it is. Between that and the last few days of 'beans and…' freezer special dinners I feel like a terrible mum and Jan2014er all round.

enormouse · 25/03/2014 14:26

Oh and the hv flagged up that she was concerned about DS1s height and is referring us to a paediatrician to get it checked. I feel awful as I think I should have noticed he was short, just assumed that as he has a very good diet and is very healthy and happy that he was fine. He's on 25th centile for weight though and a few centiles below for height. Sad crap mum ness all round really.

BandontheFun · 25/03/2014 14:30

MrsV I think it's for like tummy bugs, rotovirus I think! It was in a syringe and put directly into her mouth. Think it's a live vaccine so that's why they say no pools. They told me to be careful washing my hands and stuff after changing her nappy as well.

Nature I had that as well when they made H's checks for the wrong practice. It ended up being the HV that sorted it for me, everyone I called kept passing the buck.

Also get people thinking H is a boy all the time dispite the purple hat! Think it's cos I have captain calamari attched to the pram and its not an overly girly or boy toy. Suppose they have a 50/50 chance of being right.
