I only manged to get milk. I'm just ignoring his tantrums but it that the right thing to do?
Evil

PetiteRaleuse · 03/01/2014 20:07

I find ignoring for 2 minutes interspersed with reassuring for 1 helps when distraction doesn't work. In a supermarket if you find something they can hold and be helpful with it can do the job.

Passmethecrisps · 03/01/2014 20:07

Evening all.

pr I think you have extraordinary self-control for the way you have managed yourself this week. I was engine lay appalled by the things that MiL said in front of DD1. She sounds like a total viper. I am glad she is gone for all of you and I am glad you got a reasonable sleep.

I was sorry to read of your fall out with your brother lily. I had thought from previous posts that you were quite close. However, I suppose that parenthood brings out the differences in people.

Glad your day at work was good vq. Are you still in the office up the road from me. Every time I see that building I think of you.

Massive congrats to you isles! I am extremely impressed that you managed to do so well under the circumstances. Wee M clearly gets her brains from you. Grin

We have also had the epic rush then crash yw! P was fed so much sugar by mil that she was literally bouncing walls then wept and wailed for a long time. I think the CMPI babies can have after 8 mints. P is a fan.

P had her first dentist app this morning. She has both her lower molars on the way. Fab!! She was clawing at her ears again this evening so I suspect that this is the cause.

She has very much been enjoying having my parents around. We ended up bumping into them in town as we went for coffee after dentist and they were shopping. P shrieked with excitement! She thinks my dad is utterly hilarious. I think he is second only to aging pussy in her list of favourite things.

You chaps have all reminded me again that DH and I must, must, must write a will. It never seemed important before but we need to do it.

BigPigLittlePig · 03/01/2014 20:11

Bloody hell pr - what a cowbag. Hopefully dd1 will soon forget all about it. Poor fil though Sad.

Evil sounds like you're doing the right thing about the tantrums. F has her fair share but sso far has limited them to home turf.

Well done to isles for passing your exam. I presume the sickness bug has gone now? Hope everyone else who spent the new yr puking is also feeling better.

Glad you had a good day at work vq, here's hopin to more of the same. How's the interview prep going?

F is another spice loving baby, she loves thai green curry - the first time she had it, she grabbed the spoon off of dh and tried to eat his too Grin.

All I can hear is F talking to herself in her sleep. I love her.

YellowWellies · 03/01/2014 20:12

Pass after eight mints? You're shitting me? I'm gonna eat a dozen boxes!!!!!! . Would you believe Kellogg's coco pops are safe! ? Smile Inappropriate breakfasts will soon be had at the wellies gaff! Smile Smile

BigPigLittlePig · 03/01/2014 20:13

Yes, must write a will. I did sort life insurance out for dh and me a year ago, so that's something.

BigPigLittlePig · 03/01/2014 20:15

Cadburys cocoa powder is ok. Oatley choc milk made into fake yoghurt was a massive hit.

Passmethecrisps · 03/01/2014 20:15

evil p is just starting the tantrums as well. It would appear that the 'terrible twos' starts a fair bit earlier.

Typically I ignore or offer comforting words depending on what is happening. Recently we were in the supermarket and she was looking at the toys but we had to go. Cue lots of shrieking and flailing. I could pick her up so I did and walked away while chatting to her in a sort of "come on now, we need to get on and you have seen the toys. Oh look! Shiny thing on my keyring" kind of way.

It has only happened once properly in public and while people did look I definitely noticed lots of looks of sympathy and glances being passed between couples with rueful smiles. It genuinely made me feel much better to think that the majority were just thinking they were glad it wasn't them rather than judging.

In the house I do much the same actually. Kind chatter and distraction. Currently they are extremely short and easy to manage. Check in with me again when little miss properly gets a hang of it!

Passmethecrisps · 03/01/2014 20:19

Fo shizzle yw! No dairy proteins. Do double check obvs but when I checked they were a goer.

P likes a wee curry and a chilli. There are lots of countries where babies eat very spicy foods so it is always worth trying.

We have a favourite Indian place in town where p nibbles on various bits then the waiter sneaks her an extra after 8

Passmethecrisps · 03/01/2014 20:21

Oh holy moly. DH has just made a film trailer of my folks being here for fish and chips. I nearly peed myself. Wonder if he'll let me upload it?

ReindeerIsles · 03/01/2014 20:21

Thanks all Smile I am soooo glad it is out the way. 2 more to go stupidly booked for the same day, fuck and I am a fully qualified financial advisor Grin

Tomorrow I am going to see yet another house. I'm wibbling a bit that I have fallen in love with it read driven past it a thousand times, chosen a sofa, etc..... and won't be able to afford it. Bollocks. Looking can't hurt too much, can it?

PR she is an evil witch. I too have a shred of sympathy left for FIL, but I also find it hard to pity him when there is nothing stopping him picking up the phone. Angry

Tantrum central here. I mostly ignore or distract. Never happened in public though - yet.

I really really need to write a will. lily I also though you and bro sounded so close Sad

Have we found GT yet?

I had so much to say but my mind has gone blank Blush

ReindeerIsles · 03/01/2014 20:23

And bugger the saleswoman who has helped us fall in love with the promise of free carpets, garden landscaping and appliances for first time buyers. Envy

PurplePidjin · 03/01/2014 20:32

I reassure him - mummy's just getting her shoes and sling on then we can have cuddles kind of stuff - or give it a few seconds then ask if he's done and would he like a cuddle yet. If he's tantrumming because I've said no, i ask if he's ready to say sorry yet too.

We've had a few in public, but they've been when he's tired at nap time and we're at a group. He calms as soon as he's on his way over my shoulder, often as soon as he sees the sling going on.

I have coconut milk tapioca (couldn't find the right rice in Asda) pudding in the slow cooker. My recipe is meant to be milk but i substituted coconut milk and ditched the sugar, but coconut is a generally accepted alternative. It's ok to freeze so I'm going to portion it out in tiny tubs. R is on a low-fibre diet to sort his night time poo issues out. Banana at breakfast, pear or satsuma at lunch, and not too much veg. So i need fruit-free puddings as he rarely leaves any dinner!

PurplePidjin · 03/01/2014 20:37

PS updated flapjack recipe:

7/8 fill a mug with oats. Pour in apple juice to the same level. Soak for a few minutes however long it takes to get all the other things you need to do done

Drain off excess liquid. Mix with 42g of any combination of ground rice, ground nuts, desecrated coconut, dried fruit plus 2 tbsp honey. Spoon into silicon cupcake moulds/whatever suitable receptacle you have to hand. Bake at 180ish for 20ish minutes.

BigPigLittlePig · 03/01/2014 20:37

Could you make plain sponges with some custard pidj? Big hit here.

YellowWellies · 03/01/2014 20:45

Isles I'd wait until your Feb deadline at least to be honest.

If P has had a house before would you count as first time buyers? I know when there was that stamp duty sweetener a couple of years ago we weren't eligible as DH had owned two properties before we bought - even though I was an FTB Sad.

When are you eligible for your staff mortgage? Will you have your deposit and legal fees saved by then? If so then I'd start looking a month before then. Otherwise it can be torture watching your dream home disappear when you're not able to buy. Especially in Scotland when there's much less tooing and froing before completion.

As it's a new house they have loads of offers like that as there is a stack of unsold units up at Duloch. We got offered a similar sounding deal and a free garage up at Fordell Lea when we looked last year so don't be led up the garden path by their deals and sales spiel - ask them to best that! In an old house you'd get carpets and appliances too! Also new year is the time these new estates get inundated with folks contemplating a move so they don't tend to offer their best deals - these are saved for the end of Q4 as they want to maximise their completions by year end (from when I worked at a new development).

ReindeerIsles · 03/01/2014 21:07

I hear you yw but the situation with landlord means we need to move ASAP. I can utilise my staff mortgage from now and the loose plan is I will buy a house and he will take out a loan to fund my deposit. legally the house will be entirely mine bar his proportion that will be included in our legal contract that in the event we separate I keep the house and his proportion is put in trust for M. In theory.

Evilwater · 03/01/2014 21:13

I'm trying to fill in the council housing form. Oh boy, what a huge form. The website said it would take about 11 years for everyone to get a place Sad
Thinking, I don't think I'll be able to get a mortgage let alone afford a place where I live. Unless I go to the places where drugs and stabbings are common place. Sad

Evil

PetiteRaleuse · 03/01/2014 21:26

evil stabbings may be commonplace, but not random stabbings. I have lived in some very supposedly nasty areas of Paris and never had a problem. The murders and stabbings were gang related. Same with London. I wouldn't necessarily worry too much about an area's supposed issues. Please fill out the form and see what comes up. You never know.

Mine and DH's first home together was in fact a flat I had rented on my own. Rough, very rough area of Paris. Maybe the roughest of the inner city. Stepped over junkies in the hallway when we came home late. But never had a problem. I loved it there.

ValiumQueen · 03/01/2014 21:30

Pass we are based up at the community hospital now. That porta-cabin is now unsafe as we had no heating or running water. I was up at your supermarket for lunch today and kept my eyes peeled for you.

Was it BP that asked about my interview prep? I have arranged a few meetings with some big names to pick their brains, and am thinking on it a lot. Nothing down on paper yet. I am quite looking forward to it Smile

Isles, please rent, at least until things are a bit clearer with DP. I am concerned that he is trying to make it harder for you to leave him.

PurplePidjin · 03/01/2014 21:42

BP only if i can freeze it in portions. He loves custard but I'm not making half a pint fresh every day (i do it from powder with minimal sugar) because then I'll eat it. And I'm on a diet.

Evi baby steps. You've done so, so well thus far Thanks

BigPigLittlePig · 03/01/2014 21:49

Hmm not sure how custard would freeze. Sponge would be ok though.

How's the ring staring going? Wink

PetiteRaleuse · 03/01/2014 21:57

No pidj custard doesn't freeze. I'm on a diet too but everything in moderation. I'm following the French diet, but with far far fewer cigarettes. A little bit of everything...

Elizadoesdolittle · 03/01/2014 22:02

isles congrats on your exam pass. I'm a qualified financial adviser too. left the retail industry to be an ifa, qualified and then decided I didn't want to do that so moved over to HR. I should have just stuck with one thing rather than fluttered about with a few! I'm with the cautious ones about buying a house with p just yet.

I've no idea why its called the terrible twos. IME its the terrible 13 months-3 years and counting! Distraction seems to work well with E at the moment. Pretty much all of her tantrums at the moment are due to her inability to talk.

Had a lovely day out with DD1 and DH. I really enjoyed the snowman and so did DD1 and she was so good during it which was a relief although she did talk pretty much constantly through it DH hated it though and fell asleep twice but at least he was quiet I guess!

PurplePidjin · 03/01/2014 22:07

Rice tapioca, bloody chavsda* pudding will have to do then :)

*Sainsburys didn't have it at all Shock

Diet consists of drinking skimmed milk instead of the boys' full fat, and eating smaller portions Hmm
