Apologies for the x-posting that meant there's no thread link in the last thread Blush.
I'll start this one and hope people find it.

Emmo glad your sister has that to help her feel more like herself.

HV yesterday said gp will prescribe gaviscon first probably because it's cheaper but doesn't work as well and is a pain to give if bf so she suggested going straight back and asking for ranatadine or another one I can't remember, think it began with d.

roofio87 · 05/12/2013 07:59

bronze there is nothing more wrong with jean claude communicating in english but with a terribly bad french accent if he would like to join in more!!Grin

I do talk to H a lot, but then I used to talk to myself so it comes quite naturally to me. I too talk to him as if he was older and is going to answer back. I read to him a lot also. but then I'm very lucky as now get quite a lot of awake happy time. he recognises my voice now which is nice. at his 8 weeks check on tues the gp was impressed by him because he paid no attention when she, the hv or nurse spoke in the room, but would turn his head and start looking around when I did!!Smile

Aww roofio that must be so lovely getting a response like that to you as mummy! Dd is still pretty much in her own little world but she's only 5 weeks so just starting to respond a little to things.

Emmo glad u

Emmo glad your sister is getting sorted with a wig - it'll make such a big impact on her self esteem. Sounds like a fantastic charity. I too give dd a running commentary and ask her opinion on things like 'what shall we have for lunch? Oh really? Well ok if you insist...'!

Bronze love the little characters idea! We have soft toys everywhere now, couldn't believe how many we got as gifts so might create some key characters as she gets a bit bigger.

We live away from a lot of family so skype and FaceTime a lot and have found she loves staring at the faces on the screens so often call them up and prop the tablet screen next to her, is fun for everyone Smile

Excited85 · 05/12/2013 08:18

Sorry not sure what happened with post there!

Sephy · 05/12/2013 08:29

Orange and slippy (and anyone else who's having or had a tongue tie corrected when the LO's not very newborn) how did youdecide who to go to?

I'm starting to think my DD has one but now not sure what to do about it. I'll ask my Hv tomorrow but everyone online seems to say you need to speak to an expert, so won't be put off if she says no.

I'm in Hertfordshire so can travel to a good person in London if they come recommended by someone.

Excited, I've got a book of games to play with babies - here are some it recommends for 0-3 months:
Talking in high pitched voices and low pitched voices to get her interested in pitch
Pretending your finger is a bee and buzzing, encouraging her to follow your moving finger and buzzing when you land on her.
Saying 'boop!' when you touch her, and naming each part of her as you touch (I combine this with the pitch and
High pitch beep! When I touch her nose, then low pitch boop! When I touch mine)
Moving her legs in a kicking motion in time with a nursery rhyme to teach her rhythm.

All the games are categorised by what they're meant to teach the baby - if theres anything in particular you're interested in I can look them up and post any suggestions here.

OrangeBlossom2 · 05/12/2013 08:40

What's the title of the book sephy? Sounds good.

I am going to a consultant privately at kingston hospital because it's close to me and seems affordable - £60 appointment plus £30 if he does do a snip. kingston website says Thursday but actually it's Wednesday evenings.

Here is the website of how to find people who do the snip over the country
tongue tie

a lot seemed more expensive or didn't give prices.

Flyer747 · 05/12/2013 08:57

When I pick Alexandra out of her cot either through the night or in the morning her hands are freezing. Is this normal? I felt the back of her neck and she's warm but these cold hands must be uncomfy for her?

Sephy A had TT snipped but it was done on the NHS at alder hey here in Liverpool. We had a 2 week wait between referral and the procedure being performed. I would have paid to go private to avoid that 2 week wait as with her weight gain or lack of it I was at the end of my tether due to constant visits from hv and trips to see the infant feeding team at my local maternity hospital. However there was no one who performs the procedure where I live anymore so waited we did. I was referred via the infant feeding team as they thought she may have tt but weren't 100% sure as they aren't experts to diagnose the same with the hv's. Funnily enough I asked 3 midwives and 1 hv if she was possibly tt and all said NO! IMO if you can see an expert then do so, the expert at Alder Hey took one quick look in her mouth and said "yes def quite a tt there" then snipped it.

I'm sorry I can't help with places in London but maybe ask to see the lactation consultants at your local maternity hospital (infant feeding team) as although they can't diagnose tt they do see it often and pretty much know if it's a possibility or not, and then they will refer you on the NHS or can advise you where to go privately.

OrangeBlossom2 · 05/12/2013 09:08

Yes Thomas' hands freezing in the night. Meant to be normal. But cold on my boobs! And can't be nice for him. I sometimes put on scratch mittens or fold over the ends of his baby gro if they have that feature.

PseudoBadger · 05/12/2013 09:20

Sephy I think there's a doctor at the Royal Free who is well recommended?

PseudoBadger · 05/12/2013 09:21

Think this is her www.uclh.org/OurServices/Consultants/Pages/MrsHelenCaulfield.aspx

roofio87 · 05/12/2013 09:45

yes H has freezing hands!! I always put him to bed in a sleepsuit that has fold over hands!! again I just think it might wake him up I'd they get too cold!!

whistlingdixie · 05/12/2013 09:57

Sephy I 'm in Hertfordshire too and went private. Was more expensive than the one mentioned in Kingston but I paid for her petrol too.

Will PM you her name & number.
I was impressed with her because she spent a lot of time with us, she was clear about it not being a quick fix and she has regularly followed up with us (even letting me know which local BF support groups she'll be at so I can see her for free and she can assess how we're doing).

littleducks · 05/12/2013 10:23

Its really chilly here (outer N London) today. It felt cold in the night and I was glad of my co-sleeping hot water baby and the cars all had a thick frost on this morning.

Does anyone have the maxi cosi OPAL car seat? I'm currently using a baby carrier style one which was dd's and then ds's but ds2 hates it and screams, thinking of buying a combination seat in the hope the more upright position will help with reflux etc.

Excited85 · 05/12/2013 10:44

Sephy thanks for those ideas they are great! What's the name of the book, quite fancy that. Hope everyone had good nights.

Sephy · 05/12/2013 11:05

Thanks very much all - I have whistling's lady a call and she recommended a local support group first as its free. Fingers crossed they'll be able to help there, and that it won't look really rude for me to leave early from the lunch my friend has invited me to so I can get to the group.

One of those situations where children need to come first...

whistlingdixie · 05/12/2013 11:21

Glad she could help Sephy - good luck with the group.
I use this site to find local groups

The book is games to play with babies by jackie silberg. A friend gave me her copy as her kids are grown up, and I really like it. Inspiration when needed!

ananikifo · 05/12/2013 11:45

moonblues sorry C is so poorly. Thanks I hope he gets better soon.

Sephy what is the book called? That sounds interesting.

We've spent the morning in bed. J has either slept on me or had pretty much free access to milk. If DH was here singing nursery rhymes, then all of J's wildest dreams would have come true at once. I need to get up to eat and do a million things I need to do but I dread his reaction.

ananikifo · 05/12/2013 11:48

Sorry cross posted with Sephy

Slippysnow · 05/12/2013 11:50

sephy c's Tt was spotted by midwife at st Thomas's London during his initial exam. She said it was moderate, if it was worse they would have carried it out then and there. She said if I had any problems feeding get in touch with a midwife. He started to have a loose seal and had lots of wind. So I made an appointment with my gp and she made a referral to lewisham hospital with dr siad. Was seen within 2 weeks very quick and efficient. I didn't have to pay beaver it was nhs - they seem to be pretty hot on it. They have a clinic in lewisham and kings. Hope this helps.

I'd go to the gp for a quicker referral, it appears that they have much more influence.

Slippysnow · 05/12/2013 11:51

Haha, I didn't have to pay a beaver - pay either!

moonblues · 05/12/2013 11:56

Thanks ana he seems a bit more settled just now.

PseudoBadger · 05/12/2013 12:56

Flowers to moonblues, mrs AF, legally hope your babies get well soon. Sorry if I've forgotten anyone else with poorly babies :(

sephy hope the TT gets sorted quickly. Also your games sound really good. I'll be using some of those, thanks. I talk to dd when I'm doing stuff and tell her what we ll be doing etc. I try and sing to her even just la la and made up stuff as I'm not a natural. Feel bad cos I definitely sang more to ds even looked up words of nursery rhymes on internet etc Blush! I guess my ds sings to her so that's added interaction :)

emmo I'm glad your sister is getting sorted with a good quality wig. It's very important to how she sees herself. Thinking of your family x

I think M has reflux. I know all babies will have it due to the physiology of their lower oesophageal sphincter or what I like to call design flaw! We are very pukey after feeds the last few days. I'm trying to keep her upright as much as possible after. We already use the sling a lot........

Sorry I've forgotten a lot

Flowers and Brew to everyone with refluxy, non sleeping, lack of routine, Velcro babies!!

Thinking of you ready well done on getting help from gp xx
