Apologies for the x-posting that meant there's no thread link in the last thread Blush.
I'll start this one and hope people find it.

People selling their milk, but how samples showed all sorts of bugs, e coli etc in the milk. How do you avoid that without being scrupulous about sterilising etc?

I've pretty much given up on the expressing for now as its just so much hassle thiugh, so perhaps should chill on that one too and get back to it! Would be very handy to know I can go out and leave a bottle for her.

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/12/2013 05:06

Thanks pseudo and i think a few others had MC around this time of year.
Rachel I missed that DD had croup, fx it is clearing now.
6 week check for me today. Hope it is one of the lady doctors. Even so still have embarrassing things to ask about. Expecting lots of Blush

xuntitledx · 02/12/2013 05:35

Anybody else going through (or been through) the 6 week growth spurt and care to share any advice or just to give me a big hug?

:(

As much as I prepare myself for the cluster feeds and the fussiness, it still doesn't make it any easier and I ended up in tears again this evening and snapping at DH which always upsets me.

emmoB13 · 02/12/2013 06:30

Ana - sorry to hear people are not so happy for DP's cousins. I got pregnant at uni although I was in 3 rd year and it was super rough. I had people saying how sorry they were and sad it was but me and DP plus my family were super excited! Took a while for his family to come round. I went from social butterfly to having to write my dissertation in-between sleeping and being sick! There was a girl who got pregnant in her first year and she, with some help and using the nursery, continued her course fine and even managed a few nights out. Hope it works out for her x

Puesdo - so nice to remember your little one and remind us all to be thankful (especially through the tough times!)

Baby H slept 12 til 6 and I went to bed at 10 so good night here!! We've never had a problem with him sleeping in his Moses basket as long as it's elevated and he's on his side but usually after the first night feed he's in with me - currently asleep on my chest.

It seems we have come through the growth spurt. 48 hours of constant feeding, 24 hours of sleeping and back to his normal routine (which isn't really a normal routine but just 3/4 hours between feeds in day and a 6 hour stretch at night). Iv just had to change most of his wardrobe over as we are now in 3 - 6 months at 9 weeks. Bit baggy but much better for length.

Hope those of you struggling wake up feeling a little better today. I was talking to my mum about how overwhelming having a baby is and how nothing can prepare you. You spend your last trimester wanting them out and then when they come you have no idea what to do! I feel like about 6 weeks it clicked for me, I understand what he wanted most of the time, I felt like I knew him and what he liked and that he actually liked me! Ha I agree completely with Flyer and I really hope it gets better for those who are anxious x

MrsAFlowerpot · 02/12/2013 07:19

Terrible night here. DS's cough went up a level and at 2am he had such a bad coughing fit that I thought hr was going to combust, his face was so red and popping eyes. Similar half an hour later with lots of phlegm and a streak of blood from his nose. Called 111 who were fab until I spoke to an actual doctor who told me I was overreacting and wouldn't give me an ooh appt Angry

One more coughing fit then calmed down and has mostly slept since. I've made an appt at the GP for later this morning and am terrified it's whooping cough...based on nothing other than googling symptoms...

Sephy · 02/12/2013 07:28

So sorry to hear that MrsA, hopefully your GP will take things a bit more seriously and reassures you that all is well.

PseudoBadger · 02/12/2013 07:40

Oh no MrsA! Did you have the jab? I hope he's ok and the GP can suggest some ways to help him x

Slippysnow · 02/12/2013 08:10

That sounds awful mrsa. Have you searched for whooping cough on YouTube? It's a very distinctive cough, hoping it's not that. I had whooping cough when I was 6. Hope the gp is more supportive than the 111 one

Slippysnow · 02/12/2013 08:12

Also. How much can you use saline spray a day. C is really suffering with mucus

Thepurplegiraffe · 02/12/2013 08:15

Roxvox I am having the same problem as you with feeding. C Will latch on for a while but then just come off and cry while refusing to latch on for more which is very stressful and making me consider how long I will last with bf. I am going to see someone about it tomorrow but I have noticed that when I use a nipple shield or express a bit first she seems to be a bit better so I am thinking my very fast let down might be the problem. I think you mentioned you have the same thing? Still trying to figure out how best to manage it if it is that.

No routine at all during the day for C but we have tried the bath, story and put down routine for the last 2 evenings and so far so good but early days. It didn't stop her being wide awake with no intention of sleeping at 4am though.

Mrs A hope your appointment goes well and your doctor is more helpful, sounds very stressful.

Untitled think we had the growth spurt a few days ago, certainly had an unhappy baby. It will pass before you know it but Thanks in the meantime

Soupqueen · 02/12/2013 08:23

Hugs for all the poorly babies (and their mummies).

untitled, we're at the other end of the growth spurt which means lots more sleep - hang in there!

I don't know what's going on with my boobs. G is 7 weeks tomorrow, should the supply not have settled down? I woke at 5 with the sorest, hardest, most engorged boob I've ever had. It had leaked too - I didn't leak at all until 6 weeks, is that not when it's meant to stop?!?

Thepurplegiraffe · 02/12/2013 08:36

Soup same here. 6 1/2 weeks and it feels like I am leaking more than ever and feeding time is getting messier. Keep waiting for it to settle down

roofio87 · 02/12/2013 09:35

sorry about those with poorly babies!! hope everyone starts feeling better soon.

we've got His first immunisations at 11. fx the rest of today/tonight won't be too bad!

Flyer747 · 02/12/2013 10:19

Hugs to all those poorly babies. MrsA I hope the doctor can give you reassurance today, it must be awfully worrying if you think it could be whooping cough. A still has quite a bit of mucus too.

When does wind get better in babies? A gets lots and gripe water made her throw up. I can hear her gulping down the air and the bubbles in her tummy, then she screams for ages afterwards, just hoping it improves at 3-4 months like when colic subsides also.

I've also just managed to paint my toe nails for the first time since having A, it's a mega achievement.

My nails are terrible post pregnancy they keep breaking and are so dry and brittle. Hair ok though it hasn't gone thinner. What about everyone else?

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/12/2013 10:22

Saline drops - no maximum number written in the instructions and it's just salty water so I am using whenever he is sounding like a little piggy. Just used now and he sneezed out some nice big bogies straight away.

Soupqueen · 02/12/2013 11:50

flyer, I don't know but I really hope so. G suffers terribly from wind and it's horrid to see her in such pain and not be able to do anything about it.

Slippysnow · 02/12/2013 12:19

flyer I'm presuming your right, as there comes an age where babies no longer need to be burped because they can deal with wind themselves. I think most will get this by 6 months some before but generally 3 months +

MrsAFlowerpot · 02/12/2013 12:28

Back from the GP and he said, based on a bout of coughing/choking DS had whilst there, he thinks it is whooping cough Sad . He's given the antibiotics that treat it and we'll receive a swab pack to send off to confirm. DS has no temperature and seems clear of any chest/throat/ear etc infection. GP was v nice, but other than antibiotics wasnt able to offer much practical advice re what to do re choking.

I had the vaccine at 35 weeks, DS born at 39+1 and has had his first jabs already...the GP said vaccines are not an exact science! They were his exact words!!

MrsAFlowerpot · 02/12/2013 12:29

Flyer DD had terrible wind until about 11 weeks, it seemed to settle overnight.

Flyer747 · 02/12/2013 12:37

Oh goodness MrsA that's terrible Hmm poor baby do the antibiotics kick in quickly? Thanks For you x

roofio87 · 02/12/2013 12:37

mrsa I'm sorry its whooping cough. he'll be alright though, just needs some TLC and medicine!! he's got that now so will be on the mend soon.

H was fine with his jabs, screamed for 30 seconds then calmed down. he's a bit grumpy now but also sleepy so not too bad. gave him some calpol so hopefully he'll be alright.

flyer have you tried gripe water again? first time H threw up, now just give him half the dose and he's fine. I think He's wind is improving already so hopefully by 4months ish things will really be improving!!

Slippysnow · 02/12/2013 12:42

Oh no the poor thing mrsA I bet you're glad you trusted your instincts. Shame he couldn't give you practical advice. Was wondering whether a humidifier would give some relief or taking lo into the bathroom while you have steamy showers.

I hope the next few weeks aren't too tough on you all and lo makes a speedy recovery

Flyer747 · 02/12/2013 12:45

MrsA I just re read my comment about the whooping cough and it sounded awful, I meant I'm terribly sorry it turned out to be whooping cough. I hope he is on the road to recovery asap.

Thanks Roofio I will try her on a smaller dose later. I gave it to her post feed should I give it beforehand?

OrangeBlossom2 · 02/12/2013 12:53

MrsA sorry to hear its WC. At least you know you did everything you could with the vaccinations. Is it a jab that can give you the symptoms? Hope he gets better quickly.

My 6 week check was very rushed and seemed to be mainly a form filling exercise. It was with a nurse who had to tick boxes on her screen about whether I smoke/breastfeed/still bleeding/had sex.
I tried to ask most of my questions but was very rushed. Booked a drs appointment for later in the week as she wasn't sure about the passing wind coming out through the front. I know a few of you have that too. I asked her to have a look, she couldn't see the anal fissures but What I am doing - water, fibre and anusol, is the right thing anyway. I also have stretch marks in my anus (lovely!) which might be the cause of itching. She said it was normal for my episiotomy to still be sore for several months Sad. Took a swab because since my lochia stopped the discharge has been a bit green which is not normal apparently. And everything bulging inside is also ok, takes several months for pelvic floor to tighten up and will never be back to how it was.

I forgot to ask about the gap between my tummy muscles and whether exercise including sit ups is ok. I know some exercise can make it worse. Anyone asked about this?

Soupqueen · 02/12/2013 13:03

Goodness MrsA, that's a shock after having the vaccinations! Hoe the medicine kicks in quickly, poor wee toot.
