I was reading yesterday about the things breastmilk could be used for and can be used instead of saline nose drops. Also healing acne, scratches, dry lips, gunky eyes etc.

Flyer747 · 20/11/2013 11:19

Baby flyer now refuses a bottle after her taking a little yesterday it's like I'm trying to kill her when I attempt to put it in her mouth!

Flyer747 · 20/11/2013 11:20

She's happily guzzling away on the tit! She's a stubborn little mule

OrangeBlossom2 · 20/11/2013 11:33

What did you decide on the supplementer thing flyer?

Flyer747 · 20/11/2013 11:41

I really don't want to go down that route orange it means I will be a prisoner in my

Flyer747 · 20/11/2013 11:43

Sorry baby flyers foot posted that message prematurely

Prisoner In my own home unable to leave as I have to have that contraption stuck to my chest and boob.

OrangeBlossom2 · 20/11/2013 11:51

Hehe hello baby flyer. Mumsnetting already!
I am glad you are strong enough to make your own decisions about what is best for you flyer. It did seem like quite an extreme route to go down at this stage when things have turned a corner and are going so well.

thatsnotmypineapple · 20/11/2013 15:15

This thread has moved so fast over the last few days, I can't keep up Grin. MIL is visiting and has taken both DDs off to the park, so I am just enjoying some peace and quiet.

Thanks for all the advice on baby acne. M still looks like she has some infectious disease, but it is comforting to know she will get better. She had a scan yesterday at the hospital, as she had a clicky hip when she was born. Don't know the results yet but hopefully all ok.

My period started this morning Angry. I thought one of the advantages of ebf was no periods for ages, but not to be. Lochia only stopped 10 days ago.

whistlingdixie · 20/11/2013 15:44

Argh! A is 5 weeks and going through a growth spurt (I think). Feeding every hour for 10mins and crying between feeds. Boobs are incredibly sore as A tends to suck strongly and around 8 - 10 mins starts chomping and pulling off before I can unlatch him. Hope this ends soon!

Sorry for me me me post. Just needed to get things off my chest, so to speak.

Tulip2013 · 20/11/2013 16:02

whistling I was about to post the same thing. LO has fed every hour since noon for between 30 and 40 mins a time and is mega grouchy in between like she just can't get enough. I can literally get nothing done. I went to Sainsburys this morning and haven't had a chance to unpack it yet.

Has anyone had the first smile yet? LO is 4.5 weeks and I'm not sure when to expect it

whistlingdixie · 20/11/2013 16:06

Sympathies Tulip!!!
We've just shifted to feeding every 40mins. Fx crossed that's as short as the cycle will get :-/
I'm going to try an expressed top up to see if he's really finished feeding.

We've had first smiles at between 4-5 weeks. Get that camera ready Tulip!!

ananikifo · 20/11/2013 16:15

Sympathies to the frequent feeders. Thanks

Yesterday I was obviously so flustered trying to shop quickly that I got all the wrong things: wrong colour mascara, bras not fit for the event I'm going to, and short sleeved bodysuits instead of long. Blush So today we had to go back into town and exchange it all. I don't think baby brain is going away any time soon.

Readyasilleverbe · 20/11/2013 16:20

Hello! Has anyone else's baby been on ranitidine? Doc think C has reflux and I requested to go straight for ranitidine as I'm a reflux sufferer and have no faith in gaviscon and also can't be doing with the hassle of bottles which he has never had. Did it work quickly if you have been using it on your baby? He has had 1 dose and I really think he's happier already. But it may be my imagination/ wishful thinking. Had a horrible night last night where he gagged and choked his way through the night. I had thought he had just turned into a cranky difficult baby. But when I thought about it carefully all the signs were there....crying after feeding, hating lying down, inconsolable sometimes, gagging and coughing when winded. He had been so lovely up to 2 wks. Decided to go to docs today and glad i did. Poor baby. Bad mother.

ImpOfDarkness · 20/11/2013 16:35

F is having a hip scan next week too pineapple. Poor little mites. Fingers crossed it's nothing to worry about.

ananikifo · 20/11/2013 16:47

I hope your babies hip scans go ok, pineapple and imp.

Ready I'm glad the ranitidine is helping. Don't beat yourself up about it. Yesterday my colleagues were talking about their experiences with reflux and how it took them months to recognise. One of these ladies is an experienced paediatric dietitian who I'm sure has advised hundreds of families whose babies have reflux. "Classic" symptoms are not classic to a new parent.

Flyer747 · 20/11/2013 16:50

Ready baby flyer takes ranitidine it took about 4 days for us to notice a difference. Good luck it does work.

Soupqueen · 20/11/2013 17:15

We've got a hip scan tomorrow, fingers crossed for fellow scanners!

Has anyone tried the Lansinoh breast pump? I've just ordered one from amazon, money off just now. I haven't tried expressing yet and stupidly am a bit nervous and imagining it will hurt.

Still battling painful thrush here. The cream just isn't getting a chance to work as it needs washed off before feeding and G is feeding constantly.

OrangeBlossom2 · 20/11/2013 17:22

Doesn't hurt to pump soup, more comfortable than breastfeeding for me.
Actually it did hurt at first but probably because I was doing it wrongly. do a few little pumps, don't rush in with full ones. Little fluttery ones are like what a baby does to get the milk flowing, then you can push the handle all the way down each time and go faster.

Slippysnow · 20/11/2013 17:22

imp and pineapple ds will also have a scan for clicky hips, 'just incase' because my brother had issues with mobility. Ds's hips were fine in the original examination, I don't know whether it's over cautious but I suppose it's a good thing.

Thanks for all the pump advice, fingers cross I get my refund in time to snatch the amazon deal on the swing.

Im grateful for all the positive reviews of gripe water and infacol, my best friend made me up a hamper and put them in, and ds has been suffering with trapped wind recently- horrible to see him wriggling and moaning, never wanted to see him poo so much!

I keep having nappy leaks, go through so many clothes. We've used pampers new born, aldi and tesco. I read that moving up a size might help but I thought the issue was he was too little and it was creeping out his legs or waist line.

Has anyone had the same thing? His willy is always pointing down.

whistlingdixie · 20/11/2013 17:40

Good luck to all those having hip scans!!

Pumping doesn't hurt, just make sure the nipple suction cap is properly positioned around your nipple and that you have proper suction (no gaps).

Ready - another bad mom over here. I think A has reflux but only seems to be at night (8pm - 1am) with occasional symptoms during the day. I keep second guessing myself and just when I'm ready to go to Doc, all his symptoms go and he seems fine for 24hrs Hmm Using gripe water for now to see if it makes a difference.

chickieno1 · 20/11/2013 17:56

Good luck to all the babies having hip scans xx

Ready you got your little one checked and insisted on going straight to ranitidine so well done xx

I bought a dummy today........will see if I use it. Used one with ds but I personally feel we let him have it for too long. I think he was 18 months when we got rid of it. That's why I'm reluctant to use it this time. I havr noticed M sucking her hands though if she's trying to fall asleep. I think last night/early morning she was using me as a soother and then ended up windy and couldn't settle. Any thoughts....

Not sure about the nappies slippy. Is it leaking around the legs or the top? Make sure you pull out the frilly bits if not already doing this??

apperleydapperley · 20/11/2013 18:17

Don't know if this applies slippy but we have leaks in the back if the top of nappy is folded over and trapped rather than flat against his back.

whistling i'm the same re reflux - baby T only seems to have it sometimes and when i think about going to docs he seems to be fine, although he does have 2 or 3 vomits a day on average. I am also going to keep using gripe water for now and see how we go.

hope all the hip scans are fine.

had a very sleepy baby today so am concerned he's going to wake up soon for the night! Need to cook some dinner before that happens.

claphammama · 20/11/2013 19:24

chickie I prefer to give them dummy rather than have them suck their thumb. You can take away the dummy at some stage but you can't take their thumb away! A dentist friend told me once that sucking thumbs is much worse for their teeth than sucking dummies. And you cant control it. DS1 was dummy obsessed and needed it to fall asleep until the age of almost three... I never allowed it during the day though (once he was 6 months or so), only for sleeping and would take it away once if fell out. So he probably sucked on it 15min at a time. I also used it if he hurt himself or was really distressed about something. I don't think I would have survived without it...

hope all scanned babies are OK.

and flyer hope you don't worry too much about A's feeding... have you managed to make an appointment with that lactation consultant? you can't end up stuck at home getting depressed...

sorry haven't caught up on the rest of he thread... too exhausted today. ready my baby also "turned" after 2 weeks and they are almost the same age. I don't think he has reflux but probably colic. He is very very windy (also uses me a lot as a dummy) and very unsettled (but not during or after feeds). I can't put him down and sometimes he cries out in his sleep... it makes me feel terrible and guilty and I don't even understand why... I'm beginning to get paranoid thinking that perhaps he is an anxious and stressed baby because I was very stressed during pregnancy and all similar rubbish... I hate my mind sometimes..

claphammama · 20/11/2013 19:27

and we have random nappy leaks here too. Not often but from time to time. I've examined all the guilty nappies and sometimes have no idea why.

Natalieand · 20/11/2013 19:40

Good luck to all the babies needing hip scans, what exactly do they scan for?

slippy ds nappy kept leaking we went up a size even tho his current size seemed to fit and its fixed the problem x

I don't think ds has reflux but in the day he is only sick small amounts like normal babies but at night after I feed (bottle feed) wind and put him back down he's sick loads and ends up with wet clothes and crusty hair and sleeping in a damp bed as sometimes I don't hear it or I must be asleep when it happens any ideas/suggestion?
