where did you live previously mrsd (i reckon our house could pass as a townhouse!)?

hub2dee · 23/08/2006 21:54

Can you at least gaze at some fabulously straight plastering though, mrsd ?

No worries to those who can't make my picnic thang. Will be fun though to one day attempt a July 05 meet up !

Thank you for the stairs advice everyone. I think I will attempt to resist stairgates for a while... not sure I will have much luck with dw.

I suppose no one's got socket protectors either LOL ?

hoxtonchick · 23/08/2006 21:56

actually we do hub! shocking, i know. and only in 1 or 2, obviously .

mrsdarcy · 23/08/2006 22:55

I have socket protectors but don't know where they are . Not in the plugs, certainly. We have an RCD - doesn't that trip if DD sticks something in a plug socket?

HC, I lived in Kent when DS2 was born, and in central London when DS1 was born. So it's only DD who is the scally, poor mite . I envy people who have stayed in the same house, or even the same area, for all of their childbearing.

merryberry · 24/08/2006 09:08

I've got such an efective socket cover in one place I can't get it out. sigh

Bagpuss30 · 24/08/2006 12:35

Don't envy me mrsd, my house is full to the brim with children . At least if we had moved house there might have been a little more room for dh and I (she says as she looks at the toys strewn around the floor), sorry, school hols just getting to me a bit today.

Had forgotten about socket covers in that I'm not sure what a socket looks like without one these days - I even have taken them on holiday .

Didn't realised there was so many relaxed parents around here!

Hub - your birthday plans sound wonderful and it would be great to fly down - not expensive either with 'Sleazyjet' but we are having our own birthday party on the 2nd. dh and I are having our 'We are 100' party - the date falls between mine and his. Actually we are 102 as our 'significant' birthdays were last summer but were too busy with the new arrival then. Hope you have a great day.

MB - glad to hear you got a new nanny sorted.

I am soooo glad schools are back and I can actually get things DONE. dd starts nursery tomorrow so looking forward to spending time with my baby alone.

Eulalia · 24/08/2006 19:10

Almost forgot here is a pic of ds2 bathing in the bidet! If you look closely there is a wee scrape on his nose. Just after that pic was taken ds1 knocked him against the table and the scab broke and blood everywhere! Didn't really hurt him though.

DiamondsAreForever · 25/08/2006 11:15

how adorable Eulalia! I love seeing your latest pics! I should really get around to doing something like that too but I am just too darn lazy.
Maybe it's my hormones but I am having a total gush-fest at the moment- last night I caught myself staring at dd's eyelashes for ages- they are like fox fur! She fell asleep in my arms last night after her bedtime bottle, she was just so delicious lying there smelling of Burts Bees.

Oh, and great news in our family- dh's cousins have finally got their three adopted children today! after 3 years of waiting they have been given the most gorgeous children- two boys and a girl aged 4,3 and 2! I thought we might get them a family board game or something that they can all play together, but haven't got a clue on what kids love at the moment. Advice from Eulalia, Mrs D and Bagpuss very welcome please! Or we might just go to Woolies tomorrow and test drive some toys- dh is very keen on that idea.
hope you all have a lovely weekend x

thanks Pamina- sorry I missed you off my mums with older children list! dd loves the ELC so I think we'll drop in and see what's about!
I really must do some work today but I just can't be bothered! I just want to go shopping for toys!

DD is toddling all over the place now. I guess she can manage 10 - 20 steps before she plops onto her bottom, so we'll go and get her first shoes over the next few weeks . She's also started doing really raucous laughing - if someone else is laughing about something she joins in v loudly!

DaF - snakes and ladders is always good. The Shopping List game is good too, and other Orchard Toys games. John Lewis does nice traditional games (Ludo, tiddlywinks etc), all wooden and v reasonably priced. The boys like Guess Who too. We all love Pass the Pigs. How lovely for your DH's cousin - a whole family in one go

My goodness mrsd, what were you doing up at 2.30 am? ds2 still not walking but can stand up really well by himself now. I am itching to get him some little ruber soled pre-walker type shoes but until he starts to walk inside I am reluctant. Knowing my luck by the time he walks his feet will have grown so much that he will have to have school shoes .

Congratulations to your dh's cousin daf. I can't really add much to what the others have said already. We have a lot of games like junior scrabble and monopoly as ds1 is a good reader now and prefers those but dd likes the ones from elc and buckaroo etc which are a bit easier for her.

Eulalia, your ds2 looks lovely in that latest pic .

ds2 is supposed to be having his mmr today but I'm not sure I'll go - I'm feeling a bit nervous about it for some reason .

mrsdarcy · 29/08/2006 10:58

Couldn't sleep - it was stormy last night and I got the heebie-jeebies

DD has her MMR today too! I'm trying not to think about it. I'm more likely to get on with it if the boys are with me as they'll turn it into a big event!

OP posts:
mrsdarcy · 29/08/2006 16:01

DD just had her MMR . After the initial scream of shock and outrage, she was ok really but I am ready with the Calpol.
Bagpuss, did you take DS2?

OP posts:
DiamondsAreForever · 29/08/2006 16:09

Hi all.
Is everyone having the MMR then? DD is supposed to be getting hers but she has been under the weather for a few weeks and I am nervous about giving it to her until she's totally better. Mrs D- I was spiritually with you at 2am this morning- I have got the pregnancy insomnia-thing going on so I have now reached a whole new level of tiredness. The only thing that seems to get me off to sleep is a glass of milk and a chunky kitkat I am going to be the size of a house (again!)

Has everyone sent in their child tax credit forms? I actually got a decentish amount when I was part time, but now I have gone back full time they have told me they have overpaid me by £250- so I will get £40 a month for the forseeable future. Well, that's one day at the childminders so thanks a million! Sometimes I wonder whether it's worth all the hard work going to full time as I am constantly tired and only really get to put my dd to bed and get her up in the mornings. Or maybe it's just my hormones and I'm feeling sorry for myself. Or maybe I just need another toasted teacake. Anyway, I have my meeting tomorrow for my request for home working and therefore escaping London for the country so fingers crossed please- I need all the luck I can get!

mrsdarcy · 29/08/2006 16:17

Good luck tomorrow DaF. Have you got a fabulous proposal together, that they can't possibly refuse without being unreasonable?

I sympathise with you having to work FT, especially whilst pregnant and then with 2 little ones so close in age.

Another teacake is in order, I reckon

Eulalia · 29/08/2006 21:57

Good luck DaF!

dd is getting her MMR on Friday (she is a bit late with hers) this is her 2nd preschool one.

Have been late with all my children. ds1 can't remember why but was really late with dd for obvious reasons and swithered for ages and she was nearly 2 by the time I did it and of course she was fine. (I don't think ds1's autism was anything to do with the MMR).

Health visitor mentioned it for ds2 but am leaving it a bit late again mainly because he's still so small I just don't feel he's ready for it. Probably makes no difference though!

hoxtonchick · 29/08/2006 22:06

dd had her mmr a couple of weeks ago. she had a horrid day on sunday, was really miserable & had a temperature, so i think that was the reaction. her face still looks like it had a bit of a rash but she's back to her normal perky self. she had great fun this afternoon putting a sticklebrick bucket on her head....

Bagpuss30 · 30/08/2006 08:17

I cancelled ours . I will wait until we get another appointment through and then take him then I think. dd didn't have hers until she was 16 months and ds1 had his at 13 months and we have never really had any problems with it. Not sure why I am dithering tbh. I also didn't fancy having to take all three of the children to the doctor's, plus I think ds2 is teething again - can't face all the misery of that plus whatever may come from the mmr.

good luck for today daf!

merryberry · 30/08/2006 19:34

oo0, thanks for reminding me, mmr wise.

if a teacake chered me up with all that hard wok, a teacake it would be. a teacake on the hour, every hour.

H2D! Can you link me o your b'day thread pleas? I cant find it. Looking forward to it.

DiamondsAreForever · 01/09/2006 15:59

Hi again,
Well, my proposal is in, however, the MD asked me to write a schedule of everything I do- just to see if I need to be in all the time or not... I am finding it hilarious as I have to document every phone call and email I receive. I am, however, omitting the time spent on mn and emailing my sister... not sure if that would go down well!
meanwhile, back in babyland, dd is having a really hard time sleeping at the moment- it takes her forever to go down and she is waking up to 3 times in the night howling. I don't know what to try- any suggestions? It's not teething- in fact, she howls until we come in to her room, then she sits up and giggles. I can't leave her as she gets worse and worse and we have neighbours! any thoughts?

mrsdarcy · 01/09/2006 16:51

Fantastic news, DaF . So your move to Shrewsbury is on?

I am the last person to offer sleep advice . I thought DD was getting better - she slept through the night recently, and was generally down to just one easy feed a night - but last night I was up 3 or 4 times. Hope someone else has a useful suggestion though.
