Bops, the "ff babies sleep better" bollocks is a huge reason for bf failure in this country. Your choices are your choices but please don't discourage others by promulgating the myth.

BopsX3 · 01/10/2013 08:32

Oh I wasn't trying to discourage anyone. I think breastfeeding great and I would've done it myself if I could've done. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Like I said, i was told breasted babies are generally more settled and I think the bond you get with your baby when you breastfeeding is amazing. It was just a thought I had, that's all, I didn't know if there was any truth to it Confused

halestone · 01/10/2013 11:32

Sorry guys but i have the most beautiful baby in the whole wide world shes just so squishy and cuteGrin

Spotty wow a year already, its scary how quick its gone.

Mama i'm glad your enjoying your trip. Grin

Bop i BF for 4.1/2 months and have FF for the others i think its down to the baby too.

Pidj i don't personally think that Bop was helping to spread myths, she was expressing a thought, which she admitted was based on her experience. Thats all we can do as mothers express our opinions based on our experience.

Maryland2013 · 01/10/2013 12:54

I just thought that Bop was discussing her own experience. Which, incidentally is the same as mine. DS is FF after switching from BF and as soon as we switched he was more settled and slept better.
That doesn't mean I discourage BF. As mothers we are entitled to feed out babies as we wish.

Mama your trip sounds ace. I'd love to so a USA road trip. Trying to convince DH we could do it next year (!)

PurplePidjin · 01/10/2013 14:25

As a bfing mum - and especially now an extended bfing mum - i have to keep my mouth shut about the benefits of bfing in case i offend a ffing mum. Perhaps that should work two ways?

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2013 14:53

Woo hoo I'm home so busy at work today. Have to leave in half an hour to get dd from nursery though, who called to say she has a low temp but is fine Confused picking her up normal time though...

Ds is teething again and so far today has slept for three hours and 45 minutes! I've got him a teething necklace now so will let you all know what happens (I'm definitely a sceptic!)

itsMYNutella · 01/10/2013 14:58

I can understand what you mean pidj even My Mum's first idea to solve T's sleeping habits was to give him a bottle. But then he was supposed to start sleeping better when he started solids (he eats everything and lots of it most days). When that didn't work he was supposed to sleep better once he got moving... He isn't walking yet but he wiggles and crawls and pulls up like he is the energiser baby! Grin Each baby is different (sob! I'm going to do my best to make a sleepy one next time). There are so many "myths" when it comes to babies I don't think it'll ever be possible to stop. It would be like getting rid of stereotypes - all the Beer drinking sausage eating Germans would have to disappear Grin somewhere with their cycling, garlic & beret wearing French friends.

T has always been chatty. He doesn't have any real words but does "mumumumum" a lot and if you say to him "where's papa?" He does go and look for DP Grin. He also does lots of noises when he is thinking and examining something. Right now a remote control is being bashed and he is saying "tuh tuh duh duh uh" to it... No idea why.
We also get waving, clapping and sometimes he just sticks his arm in the air with his middle finger sort of pointing at you and he loves it if you then tickle his hand.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2013 15:05

Nutella are you bringing him up bilingual?

itsMYNutella · 01/10/2013 15:10

spotty yes, although English will probably be our predominant language at home because I'm lazy. I'm also hoping to send him often to Grandma and Grand-père for a bit of time off French in the holidays one day.

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2013 15:17

Such a good idea. If I spoke a second language I would do it too (I can survive in French but only just!)

halestone · 01/10/2013 15:22

I would love for DD to be bilingual i think its such an advantage in later lifeGrin

I have just been the dentist i have the all clear for 6 months. But she did hurt me when checking my gums. I am such a wimp!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2013 15:26

Hales I HATE the dentist!

halestone · 01/10/2013 15:46

I remember you saying that Spotty. I always take my nan or grandad with me haha.

I think T may be dropping to one nap a day :(

avoids bf/ff discussion, it's like talking politics or religion at a dinner party

lazzaroo · 01/10/2013 15:53

Bloody he'll. We've been waiting since seeing a consultant in June for an appointment for a sleep study for dd1. Phoned today as figured 3 months was more than enough tine to have waited without hassling.....they don't know where the referral has gone. It hasn't arrived so have to put a new urgent one in Angry

lazzaroo · 01/10/2013 15:55

Oh, and baby lazza was up from 1-2.30am last night! I just think I don't make very sleepy babies!

My god stacks, 1 nap already! Hope it's a long one Wink

Maryland2013 · 01/10/2013 15:55

Pidj no one has t

Maryland2013 · 01/10/2013 15:56

Pidj no one has t

Maryland2013 · 01/10/2013 15:57

Aargh bloody phone. (Fat fingers)

Pidj no one has to keep their mouths shut!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions because everyone does things differently and as they choose to. I get a lot

Maryland2013 · 01/10/2013 16:03

Aargh bloody phone. (Fat fingers)

Pidj no one has to keep their mouths shut!
Everyone is entitled to their opinions because everyone does things differently and as they choose to. I get a lot of people looking down their noses at me for FF and I hate it! My DS is happy and healthy and that's all that matters for me really. I don't think anyone should feel pressured to do one thing or the other- whether it's someone telling you to put rusks in bottles or give bottles to help sleep or BF because that's what you're advised to. We can all make our own decisions! We're all intelligent enough to do so..

I agree with Nutella there's so many myths! So we're all doing something "wrong" if we listened to them all!

I have the dentist too next week- we're all getting I. There while it's still free?!! I'm dreading it I've not been for about 4/5 years, eek!

DS says hiya dadda and dad da da da and squeals at the cat trying to miaow at him. Cat legs it...

Lazza I bet you're furious?!

itsMYNutella · 01/10/2013 16:15

Maryland you made a good point there (eventually Wink) about whatever we do, according to some bod somewhere it is bound to be "wrong"!

Spotty I did pretty well in Spanish and French at school useless when you then learn German but what's really annoying now is I can follow the gist of something simple in French but when I try to answer my brain looks in the "foreign language box" in my head and I try to answer them in German Confusedmy poor frazzled brain!

DS just bit my arm. I of course said "Owww" and he squealed back "EEEeee" great - he thinks its hilarious when I say ow Hmm
I better go and stop him playing with the plant pots...

lazzaroo · 01/10/2013 16:48

Yes Maryland, I am. I remember asking the consultant how long it might take & she wouldn't say so I wasn't expecting it to be quick but didn't know how long to wait before chasing. Glad I phoned now! She has enlarged tonsils & instead of whipping them out, like they would have done 10 years ago, she's seen the ENT consultant & now has to have this sleep study.

BopsX3 · 01/10/2013 17:59

Pidj - I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to offend anyone or for it to sound like I was spreading myths or anything like that. I was trying to ask a question more than make a statement but I obviously worded it totally wrong Confused I think there's pros and cons to both ff and bf and people do what's best for them.

Lazza that's terrible about them losing your referral. Have they said how long it'll take for the new urgent one?

I have the dentist tomorrow Confused I hate it too!

Oliver's hospital appointment went really well Smile we don't have to go back for another 6 months now. They're keeping an eye on the turn in his eye (no pun intended Grin) as it runs through his fathers side of the family so he's at risk of it getting worse. But apart from that he's doing well and making progress. They had to put drops in his eyes though which stung :( my poor little man screamed the place down and refused to open his eyes for the next 10 mins

SpottyTeacakes · 01/10/2013 18:12

Oh bops poor ds. I have to have drops to enlarge my iris when they do the diabetic retinopathy test and they really do sting Sad

Lazza that's so annoying, at least an urgent one should be two weeks or so?

Ds gives the best cuddles Grin he nuzzles right into your neck with one arm right around it Grin

BopsX3 · 01/10/2013 18:23

That's what it was I think spotty. They were to enlarge his pupils so they could see right to the back of his eyes
