Yet more guilt for everyone! Hmm I hate that there are so many things like this out there. If it's not someone telling you how to care for your baby, it's someone trying to make you feel guilty for whatever it is that you are doing! According to this one, I must be ignoring Calf & Runt's needs... They're simply too underdeveloped to sleep through the night regularly from 6 weeks. Clearly I'm ignoring that special way they... breathe quietly... which is actually them being desperate for food/changing/love... How neglectful of me! Wink

peardrop2 · 01/10/2013 03:51

Agnu ~ interesting article. For what it's worth I don't feel its aimed at making you feel guilty. It's trying to do the complete opposite but I can see why you have zoned into the words 'sleep training'. I think what it's saying is that there is a huge pressure out there in society to have babies that sleep through the night and it's unrealistic and unnecessary for society to put this extra pressure on mums. I know from my own experience that everywhere I go the first time someone meets me at a baby club, supermarket, hairdressers or wherever...I can guarantee that the first question they ask me is 'is he sleeping through the night?' Then followed by 'is he on the bottle?' The sinking feeling I get before I answer is always a sad am I good enough feeling? Because the answer is always No and No! So in my eyes I feel the article is saying embrace motherhood and know that not every child sleeps through the night, some cope better then others, some can be trained and some need more time Smile

AGnu · 01/10/2013 06:44

But pear, I've not done any sleep training! I let them fall asleep when they want to & don't disturb them until they wake up. Their sleeping through is nothing to do with me & yet that article claims it's developmentally impossible for a baby to sleep through properly until they're at least 2! I never expected them to do it, they just have! Obviously my babies are defective... Or just amazingly well developed... Like sleep-Mozarts! Grin

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 07:47

agnu at this moment in time I'd love to feel guilty, ds has finally gone back to sleep after being awake since 5.30 just in time for me to get up.
I know plenty of formula fed babies that don't sleep through pear it really is all down to the baby as an individual.

peardrop2 · 01/10/2013 08:09

Absolutely. I've totally learnt that every baby is different :)

Agnu ~ Ahhh I see. Well you should be rejoicing that you haven't had to implement sleep training or buy any sleeping devices then Smile

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 09:17

Sleeping devices?

Ds is sleeping now. Shame I'm awake.

I just had one of DH friends ask if ds was sleeping well. I just laughted that fake manic laugh that's reserved for stoopid questions.
Although if I've had some sleep I just lie.

"Aw what a sweet baby, is he good"
"He's angelic" compared to dd2
"Sleeping through"
"Yeah, he only wakes up to feed"
"That's good then"

They never quite twig that I've said no.

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 17:05

Eeew eew eeeewww ds' bum just exploded. Saved it up for 3 days. Rank does not come close

How is everyone else? Poo explosion free I hope.

kittykatsforever · 01/10/2013 17:19

Frus kittens stink now, I hate adult poo, we had our first really thick one yesterday and ugh the smell Hmm

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 17:23

the smell lingers. Envy

AGnu · 01/10/2013 17:49

Aha, a very good reason to delay weaning! Milk-poos are much less gross!

Calf tripped over his ball & bumped his head on the patio. It was only a little bump so I went over to stand him up but he wouldn't put his feet down. Then I realised it wasn't that he was refusing to put his feet down, he was unconcious! Gave me the fright of my life! I ran through the house to find the phone forgetting about my mobile in my pocket by which point his eyes had stopped rolling around & he was at least looking at me. Then I was shaking too much to dial & seemed to have forgotten how to redial... Hmm I pressed random buttons until my parents number came up so I could ask what to do, given that he was crying then. Eventually I got through to my mum who had poor signal on her mobile, so I called my dad who managed to calm us both down & reassured me that he probably just fainted from the shock, rather than anything more sinister! It's times like this that I love having medical people as parents! He's been fine since. Seemed a little wobbly at first but was soon tearing round the garden again. See 'helpful' Facebook photo! I still feel sick now. I'm eating lots of toblerone. Sugar is good for shock, right? Wink

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 18:14

Oh agnu (((hugs))) tea, with sugar. I feel sick just thinking about it, I can only imagine how you must have felt. But yes, good that your dad is calm medical person.
And not too much toblerone you don't want a big down.

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 01/10/2013 18:16

Ps. Yay for baby-gnu

bringonthetrumpets · 01/10/2013 19:56

Scary situation agnu! Glad he's (and you!!) are okay. Sugar is great for shock Wink

M is working on rolling over here, not quite yet, but she's teetering! 15 weeks already, b'jesus.

I hate the "is s/he being a good baby?" question! What do you want me to say? "No"? "My baby sucks?"

Just found out today from the dentist that I have to get my wisdom teeth out....which means I have to 'pump and dump' the day of the operation Sad Really not looking forward to this.

kittykatsforever · 02/10/2013 06:20

Agnu Shock gosh that must have been horrendous for you. I can't imagine the fear that goes through you when your child has an accident like that, hope you are all feeling better after a nights sleep
Bring Hmm that really sucks, is there no way they can delay removal? Or are they causing you pain?
Lib, I hope you are ok, miss your funny and sweet updates

kittykatsforever · 02/10/2013 06:56

Ha ha Agnu just seen fb and that you used frus he just wakes up to feed and goes straight back down lol
Must say I rarly get asked that, more how hard is it with 2!

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 02/10/2013 07:49

Hmm I do. Thinking about it, it's probably because dds are at school.

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 02/10/2013 08:02

It's really funny kitty people (and it's usually complete strangers old dears) never seem to realise what I've said straight away.
You could try the "oh it's just like have 1 twice."

With 3 you get the "I don't know how you cope" (reply; he's the easiest of the bunch, he just eats sleep cries and poops) and "are you going to stop now" (reply is; oh I'd have 10 if they were just like him) or my favourite "I bet you're glad you have a boy now" (I don't have a smart Alic reply to this one)

kittykatsforever · 02/10/2013 08:40

How about oh I know girls are only good for dressing up prettily Confused
When they ask me if its harder I usually say its not as hard as 2, it's more like 1 and a half lol your allready in baby mode arnt you so your just extending the duties as apposed to doing them all from scratch! Must say though kitten is a much smiler baby but has developed a very bad crying as soon as I leave her sight habit! Not just me, her dad to or anyone she was looking at, it's getting that I can't leave the room for the toilet Hmm just had to take dd1 to potty and she went off as I was cleaning it away dd1 went to her to stop her crying and the screaming intensifies, I go in to find her almost out of her chair ( just her bouncer on the floor not a high chair)with her porridge in big clumps around her face, that's dd1 " helping me"
Oh and Ido get asked quite often if I'm going to try for a "blue" one now!

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 02/10/2013 08:44

Oh and Ido get asked quite often if I'm going to try for a "blue" one now! oh I always wanted a smurf! Wink

It is definately more harder to adjust to one than to 2 or more.

AGnu · 02/10/2013 08:54

"I bet you're glad you have a boy now"

"Not really, I only ever wanted girls..." Enjoy the uncomfortable pause while they try to figure out what to say next! Wink

kittykatsforever · 02/10/2013 09:14

Smurf Grin ill try that
Agnu have you had the " pink" one yet? Maybe you could say what a jelly baby? Confused look

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 02/10/2013 11:15

agnu that's great. Grin
Or
"I bet you're glad you have a boy now"
I know, boys look so cute in pink. It seems such a shame to waste all those clothes.

kitty a jelly baby. Grin Grin Grin

FrussoNeedsMoreSleep · 02/10/2013 11:18

When I was pregnant with dd2 the sonographer asked of we wanted to know, told us. And DH said "darn it I wanted a puppy" the sonographers face was a picture.

bringonthetrumpets · 02/10/2013 13:45

Haha! People and their intruding questions are so daft sometimes. If I'm out with the older boys I am always getting the "aren't you glad you finally got your girl" statements thrown at me. I should just start saying "no, I really wanted another boy, but I'll have to deal with this little girl".

Also the "my your hands must be fun/you must be so busy/it must be crazy at your house" comments. STFU people. Maybe I want to have 10 children, then what? I mean honestly, you have your hands full with just one child! Confused

bringonthetrumpets · 02/10/2013 13:47

fun=full (see, subconsciously optimistic!)

Oh, and no, can't put off the ol'wisdoms. I've put them off for 2 years because of apprenticing and not getting the time off and then pregnant, gotta get them done before I start the on-call schedule again. They've grown in wonky and they're causing a lot of troubles for my other teeth.
