Thanks for making me Grin I've been tearing my hair out today and forgot to look back on MN. I've been waving Vicks muslins in his face which he thinks is hysterical Sad Glad he's well enough to laugh though! Shame that doesn't apply to sleep!! DH has brought a Calpol vaporiser and olbas for kids to help us get through tonight. I like the idea of tying the muslin to the cot and putting Vicks on his feet covered by Vicks!

Thanks for all your shopping tips. I'm going to take a trip to Sainsburys with my mum soon to stock up on the basics. I need to spend less on the basics so I can splash out on a couple of nice jumpers may have already splashed out this morning ooops

Frus ~ when you say I need to know his next size do you mean go on the website and look at their measurements before going in store?

peardrop2 · 17/09/2013 15:33

Seriously...snot suckers? Don't tell me I have to buy another pointless gadget Shock I can't!

Agnu ~ you what? Put bm in his nose? Seriously? Sounds scary Shock

Lorelei353 · 17/09/2013 15:36

DS was really snuffly at the start but seems to have improved since his tear ducts have opened up. We used saline drops and a snot sucker then and still do if we can see a massive booger lurking.

AGnu · 17/09/2013 16:56

Breastmilk cures all...

FrussoHathor · 17/09/2013 17:03

snot sucker Grin they sell them in boots and asda too. Wink
I don't like them myself because they make me feel icky. But I have long nails and can pick the bogies out and that doesnt make me feel icky Confused

Pear I just tried something on dd so I knew which size they were. It gets easier when the get past 1yr as they do 1-1.5, 1.5-2, 2-3 etc (I never actually thought to look at their measurements online)

bring I love autumn too. But I'm not liking the rain so much.

Ooh agnu I'm going to try it on ds cradle cap

OP posts:
AGnu · 17/09/2013 17:14

Coconut oil is fab for cradle cap Frus. Just rub it in, leave it for 10 mins & use a nit comb to pull it all off! It's gross & incredibly satisfying! Like pulling snot out of tiny noses with your fingers or, in my case, tweezers! Grin

FrussoHathor · 17/09/2013 17:33

I don't have coconut oil agnu but I do have breastmilk. Plus I want to try it to see if it works. I only pick his cradle cap scabs if they're loose

Aaaahhhhh the dds are arguing upstairs and driving me nuts.

Does anyone have a

peardrop2 · 17/09/2013 18:54

Beaba Baby Babycook Steamer? Or planning to get one? My friend recommended it however I do find it rather expensive and wonder whether once baby pear is eating blended up food (past the fruit and veg stage) shouldn't he just be eating what we have? I know I would have to be more careful what we eat but it does seem a bit crazy to be making separate meals (unless he had an allergy).

FrussoHathor · 17/09/2013 18:56

He'd eat what you eat pear just without added salt.
If you want to blitz food down to a purée just use a hand blender.

OP posts:
FrussoHathor · 17/09/2013 19:03

£89 ! (At mothercare) Shock pear you do not need to spend that a mouth of money. And if you blitz fruit you loose all the nutrients.

If you have a £5 hand blender, a £3 sieve, a £15 normal steamer, and a microwave. You're sorted. And can do the same things.

bringonthetrumpets · 17/09/2013 20:11

Yeah, my mum bought one of those for me when ds1 came around. It's nice...but it's kind of hard to clean and it doesn't make very big batches so it's like you're standing around in the kitchen all day trying to make enough that will go in the freezer to keep for a while. I'm more of the baby-led weaning camp, me'self.

I need to try the coconut oil on M...Hmm

Yeah, why is it so satisfying to get out a giant baby booger? something wrong with us on this bus

AGnu · 17/09/2013 20:39

£89?! Shock Hmm For Calf we used to make our own version of Ella's Kitchen pouches. That mostly consisted of bunging a random selection of fruit & veg into the slow cooker with a tiny bit of water, leaving it for a few hours & either blitzing or mashing it. We have some of those 2oz freezer pots so it'd all get portioned up & frozen. That would be his food sorted for the next 2 weeks! When I wanted to give him some variety I started putting the fruit/veg into jam jars in the slow cooker so I could do different combinations. Easy peasy & didn't require anything we didn't already have - we used ice cube trays at the beginning! £89 indeed! It's shocking what they try to convince mothers we need! Angry

AGnu · 17/09/2013 20:44

Ooo... I just remembered... Once he got a bit older I'd make up pots of Bolognese sauce & freeze that in small portions & he'd get either rice or pasta freshly boiled with 1 Bolognese cube & 1 veg pot out of the freezer & that would be his dinner when we wanted something less healthy. I'm sooo doing BLW this time around - it was fun to feel like a mad scientist for Calf but Runt is just going to get random things off my plate to play with. We're not going to have the same weight issues ---- so we can work with food just being for fun until he's one.

peardrop2 · 17/09/2013 21:47

Thanks ladies. I thought £90 for something that had a very short shelf life seemed mad but my friend said I had to have one so I thought I would at least have a look. I have a blender and a sieve like Frus says Grin I don't have a steamer though although I've always wanted one for us so I will have to look into buying one!

peardrop2 · 17/09/2013 21:55

Pheweeee I almost brought another pointless gadget ShockWink

Bring ~ I can see how it would be tricky to clean and do batches! I love autumn too Smile

FrussoHathor · 17/09/2013 22:06

Ds is in a blue sleeping bag tonight. Must refrain from poking him to see of he's still breathing and not overheating tonight.

Now did I imagine it or can you get sleeping bags with arms?

OP posts:
peardrop2 · 17/09/2013 22:35

I've seen sleeping bags with arms somewhere. Why would you want arms though? I can't use a sleeping bag because b pear only sleeps on his tummy. I haven't actually tried it but I assume he would struggle to sleep in his bum up in the air position!

bringonthetrumpets · 18/09/2013 01:57

We can't use sleeping bags for the same reason, too, pear. I just cover her with a blanket (breaking allllll the parenting rules, oops!).

Oiy, growth spurt alert. She woke up twice last night, I feel like a zombie today.

peardrop2 · 18/09/2013 06:26

Bring ~ I use a blanket too. I don't understand why that would be breaking the rule but I assume I don't want to hear the answer Hmm You have to cover them with something though otherwise they would freeze! Lately I've been very worried and panicky that baby pear sleeps on his tummy but with no other choice other then letting him sleep upright on me which presents its own dangers I just have to try and put it to the back of my mind Sad Oh wow is parenting testing on all levels!

kittykatsforever · 18/09/2013 08:02

I use a sleeping bag on kitten and I see her little bum in the air, why wouldn't she be able too, they are designed for use up till 2 and they can roll around everywhere from 6 months, I used one for dd till 1 and a half
Pear yy to blender, weave all dd1 food, always lots and froze, I used anabel karmel book which often has you boiling things aswell so I'd often put the collider over the pan of boiling potato say and steam it that way or we have steam bags I use all the time that go in the microwave, they are brilliant and I re use them!
Yes Agnu totally agree on asda clothes, dd1 still wears a top that's 9-12 months from there and she's 2 lol
Frus, I pick noses too, I love it! Grin

kittykatsforever · 18/09/2013 08:06

I have just posted a pic on fb for your amusement in one as to how I've found her this morning

FrussoHathor · 18/09/2013 08:22

Dd1 and 2 were belly sleepers and had sleeping bags (they can toddle in them too. They looked like maggie of the Simpsonsede. Grin
Arms - because it gets cold in my house in winter.
