Cupcakes, did you try upping his food the other day? Just asking because for at least a month and half dexters had double what yours has for breakfast. So a bowl of porridge (same as about one n a bit weetabix) a whole banana or a pot of the fruit purees and a biscuit thing. Same for dinner same quantity as youd get in one of those jars with a yoghurt or fruit thing. He eats loads more than I thought he'd want. They have an off switch though dont they for when they are full... unlike me.

Birdies · 08/09/2013 09:50

Aw cupcakes that's really rubbish for you, I thought you were just being good not feeding him to sleep. Did he fall asleep in front of strictly last night?

Wow lora that's a big appetite! We are nowhere near that, but interestingly X kept crying on and off after her tea last night so i thought she was tired and took her up early. She then fed for absolutely ages so it must have been hunger. So I may try feeding her more. Although I feel like she would just keep going and keep going so I don't know when to stop really.

glorious · 08/09/2013 15:18

Hello, my name's glorious and I have a problem with feeding to sleep. The baby falls asleep in the pram or sling or in the cot if fed until very sleepy. I on the other hand cannot sleep unless I've just fed her Confused. Should I leave myself to cry it out or will I learn to self settle in my own time?

Meringue33 · 08/09/2013 16:42

I have fed LO potato wedges until he looks fit to bust! It does seem to help a little with sleep. When he's really had enough he just makes a face and drops them on the floor.

Glorious I am getting addicted to co sleeping. It doesn't help that DP stays up way after me so I don't get any cuddles to help me fall asleep :(

Pascha · 08/09/2013 17:16

Just been to Bedgebury Pinetum where Dan was making smiley faces towards another little girl in a pushchair, about a year old I would guess. "ooh look xxx that little baby boy is smiling at you!" said mum. I didn't have the heart to tell her that Daniel was grinning gaily at the yoghurt spoon going from pot to her mouth and back again and really not at the little girl herself...

Ivy has just polished off mash with peas and sardines! Dp can't spoon it in fast enough and she is carefully picking up the peas off her tray. Shes been a proper pig today and seems enormous..another growth spurt maybe?!

pascha that made me Grin my ds2 was is like that.

Been sorting out 9-12 month clothes today thankfully i stopped being organised at that point with dd1 and have absolutely tonnes of stuff. Shame as i was quite looking forward to some shopping... ;)

mrsbugsywugsy · 08/09/2013 18:44

Don't know glorious but I can't sleep without Ewan Grin

Lora1982 · 08/09/2013 19:57

Thanks to octane again. Sleepies at half seven! Can I ask though between 3-6 he has a mardy phase like hes tired does yours have a nap then or not? Im scared to let him incase I lose my evenings again.

Well I'll be rocking up to work in maternity jeans tomorrow, I still look awful in my normal stuff :( layers are needed to disguise my poor cake filled figure.

Also taking vapor rub as the internet advised me to rub it on my cheek for this toothache. I was in tears today and it takes a lot to make me cry. Sod dps hours im ringing and begging for an earlier slot I cant wait ten days.

Met a guy from work in asda his baby is one next month and tiny compared to dexter... I thought he was normal size but a few people have said he's big.. not fat just big and long bless him

octanegirl · 08/09/2013 20:15

Lora great! Yes if he is being stroppy in the late afternoon I let him have a 30 min nap MAX. Not after 6 pm though. but he tends go get stroppy around 5 pm so I let him have 30 mins. 15 mins if it's at 5.30.

I've got a long baby too. People keep saying he looks way older which makes me feel sad for some reason...

Never heard that on the Vicks - interesting.

glorious haha!

Birdies · 08/09/2013 21:24

Does anyone give their baby a comforter?

lora poor you, toothache is so awful. Please can you let me know your exact new routine so I can copy? Which bit did you change that's now working?!

Anyway, I've realised I'm a big part of the sleeping problem. X started making noises in her sleep at about 1.30am last night - little cries and she kept going for a few seconds. So I got up, tried to feed her but she wouldn't and stayed asleep. I put her back in her cot, then worried that something was wrong as she always feeds. So I woke her. And the routine is f*cked again. Am a prize wally. How long does everyone leave baby fussing/making noises for before you go to them?

So many questions :)

cupcakes hope you're having a better evening tonight Wine

AppleCrumples · 08/09/2013 21:45

Aww birdies i used to do that with ds1! Every little noise and i would be up waving boobs at him :) When he was 10 months hv suggested he didn't really need feeding at night and maybe i should put him in another room and try not to jump up each time (seriously it hadn't occured to me before that Blush Ivy has to be crying for a while before i will bother to open my eyes!

And to answer your question Ivy was given one of those bunnies with a blanket from tesco which she loves so much we now have 2 just in case we lose one (i have experience of lost favorites ds1 left his fave on a bus and cried for ages :( )

lora hope you get to dentist soon, poor you

cupcakes hope your lo is sleeping and giving you a break

Pascha · 08/09/2013 21:55

Ages. I wait til it's a proper cry before I even put my glasses on and swing my legs out of bed. It never reaches that point, he always settles down after a few half-hearted moans.

Dan has a monkey he quite likes as a comforter in his cot. Also, bizarrely, he gets very excited by one of the dinosaurs on his bedroom wall and we have to say hello or goodnight to it every time we pass it Hmm Grin

Lora1982 · 08/09/2013 21:58

Ok its pretty much exactly what octanes is, all I did was let him nap at 10am and he seemed to fall into the rest of it without me telling him when to sleep. On the fussing front I only go to him when its full on crying means hes stuck on his front or teeth hurt

I still give him his comforter thing its ANY muzzie thats hanging around which iisconvenient!

SSoabout 8ish its boob
9 its breakfast... loads of. With water
10ish its a nap for 30-45 mins he decides
12.30 dins
1.30ish hes showing signs of sleepyness... grabbing a muzzie i sure sign he wants sleep
3.30ish bottle
5ish gets a bit mardy so on octanes say so I wwillallow him 30 mins from now on
6ish dinz
7.30issh boob and hes started falling sleep on me which im gonna need to address.

Soz for all the spellings, my phone goes funny when the threads about half way full and it takes an age to go back and sort them all!

Lora1982 · 08/09/2013 22:04

Sniggers at the waving at the dinosaur. We have to wave at all windows we pass he's used to waving at dp when he's outside smoking also if hes having a hissy fit for no reason I point out my cat and he shuts up straight away bless him the cat doesnt like him back though :(

lollipoppi · 08/09/2013 22:12

Hope you manage to get an appt soon Lora and yayyyy on the new routine working!!

if DD wakes in the night it's an instant scream, I get up straight away or she wakes herself up or gets into a reet little state bless her, If she is just grumbling she just settles herself back to sleep

She does have a comforter, it's a little square with tags all the way round, from slumber sac as soon as I give it to her she sticks her thumb in and goes to sleep!

Anyone else have a thumb sucker?
DD sucks to get to sleep but not at any other time, MIL said I should stop her!!!?? Not a chance!

Lostbobbles · 08/09/2013 22:13

Hello All

Lora hope you get an earlier dentist appoint. Poor you Hmm

Pascha - lol at the yogurt

Been re adjusting to the school run here still shit DD2 not as happy to be stuck in the car now they she is older but she is going to have to get used to it. Going to be worse this week as activities start. (Apples I gave no idea how you get four kids out the house)

Still waiting on the 'sleep through' to happen, every night I go to bed wondering if it will be the night but never happens Hmm think she will be about 6 at this rate She now has a cold just to add to the misery.

Birdies I leave her a good while before I go in and try to only feed her once a night now. She also has a sleepytot comforter with a dummy attached to help her find it in the night . along with about ten other spread around her cot

Hope everyone has a good week

AppleCrumples · 08/09/2013 22:28

lost' we get out through sheer will power and threatening to make dcs go barefoot if they don't get their bloody shoes on Grin Sometimes i just refuse to let there be a problem. I am still having to push dd1 through the door as i have no intention of dealing with a repeat of last years messing about!

Birdies · 09/09/2013 09:04

Hmm that must be where I've been going wrong then. A few seconds and I'm up feeding her!

Right, going to I give her a comforter now!

Aw the waving is cute. We had waving for a bit but she's stopped again.

lora thanks for that, although I have a dilemma now as at the mo I can get both girls to sleep at the same time over lunch so I get an hour off. If I change the routine that will disappear. I'd almost take the night feeding over losing my hour off Confused

When are those stil bf thinking of stopping? I'm thinking of introducing some formula but is it too late to use a bottle now? Should I just use her sippy cup if I do?

octanegirl · 09/09/2013 09:26

Birdies I'm going to keep BFing till at least a year. Beyond that we shall see...
I like the calorie burning effect (on me) the fact that it's free/no hassle etc...

Lostbobbles · 09/09/2013 09:44

Great DD1 off sick already long day ahead

Apples we have a drop off zone now, so I just kick her out the car and a teacher/ assistant takes them in. Fabbo Grin

Birdies I would just try to devise a routine that suits you all best. I find it hard to follow a rigid routine as she has to fit in with DD1 and the daily chores coffee, lunches, shopping Wink. The only really set time is bed 7ish but again if we are out then all goes to pot. Annoyingly she is crap at sleeping in pushchair, DD1 was fab to take out.

Lostbobbles · 09/09/2013 09:45

PS who's got the heating on brrrrrrr

AppleCrumples · 09/09/2013 10:05

lost that sounds a better idea re drop zone. The problem is that they started letting parents into reception last year to settle dcs but it seems to have had the oppisite effect and quite a few are still struggling with drop off in year 1! Tbh am quite annoyed as i feel they have created the problem and now i have to be the tough one propelling her through the door :(

Lora1982 · 09/09/2013 10:23

Birdies couldnt you get them to both have their kip about 1ish after dinz? That sleeps usually an hour so you wont miss out then.

Off to work... after shitty sleep with my gob :(

Pascha · 09/09/2013 10:30

Dan will bf til he wants to stop. DS1 still has 1 feed in the morning before we get up and he's 3 on wednesday. I'm going to try to tail that off by christmas I think though.

I don't see any point in starting formula now unless you really really want to stop bfing, in 4 months time you can swap to cows milk anyway so it seems a bit pointless to do it just for the sake of it, IYSWIM. Dan's already down to 4/5 feeds a day and I expect by a year that will be 2 or 3 at most.

I'm really annoyed at myself this morning. Day 2 of nursery run and I've already lost ds1's bloody coat! I had it getting out of the car, arms tied round my sling and by the time we'd got to the preschool gate it had gone. I've searched the bit of road we walk along - about 600 yards worth, and its not anywhere to be seen. Bah! Angry

Lost I really wish I did have the heating on, its freezing here. Unfortunately we don't have any oil because we drained and moved the tank at the weekend and haven't had it refilled yet. We're relying on the immersion for the hot water and didn't think we'd need heating before the chimney's swept for the log burner on 25th sept. We could use the stove before then I suppose but its a faff.

Dan is having a great deal of fun scrambing in and out of his inflatable ring, over and over and over Grin
