And I did horsey

fruitpastilles · 25/07/2013 23:29

Mostly for all the midnight feasts Grin

PetiteRaleuse · 25/07/2013 23:31

I liked the idea of playing tricks on teachers. I didn't like the bullying in the books though.

YellowWellies · 25/07/2013 23:33

OK just googled brambly hedge books and I've realised my entire adult taste in interior design comes from those kids books and my Sylvanian Families dolls house. Grrr that's why we spent £5k on a fecking Rayburn on the island! Grin

Lily311 · 26/07/2013 05:02

Morning,

Where is chasing? Hope you are ok.

O slept through, she is chatting away currently. Love that.

StuntNun · 26/07/2013 05:22

I was halfway into my first glass of wine when I realised that I had bought steak yesterday. So dinner cheered me up a lot. Poor DS1 and DS2 had pizza. Blush J has done another three poos since I last posted, varying from normal to runny. I spent about three or four hours trying to get him to sleep yesterday afternoon. When DH came home the breakfast dishes were still on the table because J wouldn't let me put him down, even in his Jumperoo, wouldn't sleep and wouldn't be entertained by his brothers for a bit. DH managed to get him to sleep at 5.30 whereas I would have been trying to keep him up for his dinner and put him down at 6.30 for the night. So of course J woke up at 9.30 and had to be fed then wasn't back in bed until after midnight. I ended up sleeping with him on the floor of his bedroom to get him over to sleep which was excruciating on my back. Then DS2 was up in the night and J woke again at 4 for his usual feed. It's been three bad days and nights lately. I'm getting a bit desperate as I'm not getting anything done in the house and I have urgent paperwork that I can't get any time to sort until the evening when I'm too exhausted to face it.

On the book front no-one has mentioned Dr Seuss yet. One bit makes me think of James: "I do not like this one so well. All he does is yell yell yell. I will not have him in the house. When he comes in I put him out." I also like the line from The Cat in the Hat: "The mess was so big, and so deep, and so tall. We could not clean it up, there was no way at all." Green Eggs and Ham is brilliant too.

There are lots of Thomas the Tank Engine books that were written later and don't have Awdry's obsession with train details and moralising. DS2 does still like the originals though. Has anyone mentioned We're Going on a Bear Hunt yet? I like The Elephant and the Bad Baby too.

I face palm at my 28 year old self!!Grin

Well, I am all clipped and Mirena removed horahh. Apart from feeling like I have been hit by the proverbial bus and very sore indeed, ok.

My BP was 98 over 69 when I went in yesterday and they were having a bit of a faff about it when I came round after the anaesthetic ( after a massive vim session) trying to see if it would go up. I kept telling them is normally low.

So today I will mainly be in bed. Unfortunately DS1 seems ill, query tonsillitis, so Darling DH will have to get him to the Drs. Though he is generally a little easier when ill, Less active, so could be a blessing.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 26/07/2013 07:17

I too wanted to go to Malory Towers.

One book I have loved that my children have got is called the Snail and the Whale about a snail who hitches I ride on a whale to see the world. I have just ordered it for DNs niece.

My girls liked Dr Seuss but are now onto the Daisy books, Clarice Bean and a little but of secret seven!

fruitpastilles · 26/07/2013 07:34

Glad all went well sophia make sure you rest up now!

stunt BrewBrewBrew and more BrewBrewBrewBrew

wellieboots · 26/07/2013 07:37

I always wanted to go to Mallory Towers, that or St Clares. Go the midnight feasts! This baby sometimes sleeps, current issue is when she wakes once for a bf, which is fine, but then won't go back to sleep until 6am Sad hugs for everyone who needs them but specially Sophia stunt vq and izzy if you're still around and chasing.

detective I loved your video on fb. I have quite a mover -and I haven't got space for a baby jail- MIL has a pushalong walker thingy but we haven't got it from her place yet, I dread to think how far DD will go with it.

YellowWellies · 26/07/2013 07:37

So my old hoodoo charm of having a calpol bottle in his room with a syringe in ready to squirt - worked it's magic again. If it's there we don't need it. 11.30 til 7.30 - have had much worse. Wine Wine Wine to Stunt xxx

YellowWellies · 26/07/2013 07:38

Sorry Brew Brew Brew to Stunt!!!! bit early for Wine

horseylady · 26/07/2013 07:51

Well done j!!!

1am here then co slept. Which means not much sleep. The dh woke me up.

Never read st Claire's. I don't think. Will look and buy them.

Also loved the Phillip Pullman books and Harry potter!!

Pikz · 26/07/2013 07:54

Well done J and glad it's a little better horsey.

Huge hugs to Sophia, stunt and izzyBrew

I was lucky here and got a much needed rest as he didn't wake til 7

I loved Malory towers, st Clare's, the white boots, enchanted wood but my absolute faves were roald Dahl and dr Seuss. I already read L dr Seuss

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2013 07:58

Morning.

Glad your op went well sophia

More Brew for stunt.

I've been having a wee bout of insomnia recently. Last night I got about 2 hours kip. I feel sick now. I do have the. Chance to nap when p goes down though

DH asked me the other day if I fancied some time alone as a colleague had asked if he wanted to take p to a play date with his wee one. Brilliant thinks I! Then DH says that the man wants to come round our house so I will need to go out for my me time. It is still nice of course but I would like to have a wee snooze. Or read. Probably it is better as I think I might be inclined to tidy up. So I am getting my hair done.

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2013 08:06

Is Malory towers the series with daryl? I did read those. I was a bit confuddled by a lot of it though. I couldn't imagine the senior girls at my rural secondary school picking junior girls for 'crushes'.

I loved James Herriott books.

FatimaLovesBread · 26/07/2013 08:15

Once again, haven't had time to post.

M went to my mums yesterday morning to get her use to it before going back to work. Also getting to get her to go a bit longer without milk during the day when she's elsewhere in prep for no daytime feeds. Yesterday she went 6:30am-4pm with just solids and water!

Horrendous night last night, she was shattered at 6:30, she actually fell asleep feeding at 7:30 and DH took her to bed but she woke as soon as she hit the cot. Multiple failed transfers and even me and her in bed couldn't get her to sleep. She would more or less fall asleep and then shake herself away. She eventually fell asleep at 10:30pm but it took some doing. Then woke at 1:30, 4 but self-settled and then 6:15.

Going to my sisters today so should get a chance to catch up

Sophiathesnowfairy · 26/07/2013 08:27

Oh Dear.

DH just bought DS1 to see me (mummy's broke) he has on a pair of shorts and a tee shirt which is actually from a set of pyjamas. Confused. Query tonsillitis has gone away he seems much better, must just be a sore throat and cold.

fatima what happened with the poo seat?

ChasingDaisy · 26/07/2013 09:09

I'm here thanks Lily Smile Had a rough few days but I knew others on the thread were having a tough time of it and I couldn't add anything other than self pity.

Good night from O last night, 6.40-3.20 and 3.30-6.55 after a quick feed and a self settle at the 3.20 wake up.

I love children's books. Mallory Towers was a big favourite of mine - yep pass that was the series with Daryl in it. I read a lot of Enid Blyton. Also loved the Naughtiest Girl in the School. I was never a fan of fantasy books so never liked Narnia etc. I used to think Roald Dahl was evil - I made my mum hide The Witches at the bottom of her wardrobe as it scared me so much. I am slowly growing to like him now though. Must get BFG for O. My favourite author was Jane Hissey though. I had all of her books but have only managed to save one from childhood. Need to scour the internet to find the rest for O.

I have the Julia Donaldson books for O - some of them anyway, will aim to collect them all.

ValiumQueen · 26/07/2013 09:59

Binkle and Flip? Brer Rabbit? Milly Mollie Mandy? (Old)

J slept until 8am! As did I! He is so much happier when he has slept.

I am glad everything went well Sophia. Be careful not to over-do it. I think I had the cut rather than clip, and had more pain from that for longer than the section so do not under-estimate the recovery.

Passmethecrisps · 26/07/2013 10:00

We are on poo 3 of the day.

And I just fell out of the shower. In a kind of OMG I am going to knock myself out on the tile floor way.

I didn't. I hurt my foot but I am fine.

Nice to see you chasing

ValiumQueen · 26/07/2013 10:03

Last night I had feelings in my tum that were so like kicks. Of course I got all panicky thinking 'what if' and 'how will I cope' Silly me Grin

ValiumQueen · 26/07/2013 10:04

Glad you are ok Pass. Hope your foot is not too bad x

YellowWellies · 26/07/2013 10:05

Jack and Nancy by Quentin Blake was read to us nearly every night I've managed to find a tattered copy for J as it's sadly out of print. The mousehole cat has the most wonderful illustrations and makes me sob (but fear not Pass it ends well).

I too couldn't get my head around Mallory Towers but then I went to the sort of school were girls set each others' hair alight with Bunsen burners Confused Grin Shock .
