Old thread here.

We seemed to be running out of space (again) so I made us a new thread.

Sometimes I hear weird loud noises on the baby monitor. DD likes to rattle her dummy on the cot bars, like a prisoner with a tin cup.

Can I join the wonder week hell party? If the incessant grumbling wasn't bad enough, now she's forgotten how to nap. And the man's new job starts tomorrow. She may have broken me by the weekend.

Christmas last year I only had two small children to buy for. This year there's four of the buggers. Plus parents, two siblings, their partners, and the man. Can't very well skip anyone either, as we'll all be at my dad's Christmas Day. Not entirely sure how everyone's going to fit either, last year was a squeeze with just six of us.

Well done leni! Let's just now hope that nothing untoward comes back +++

KFFOREVER · 09/09/2013 15:44

So with a new found for keeping fit i decide to walk to the baby clinic to get ds weighed. Little did i know i hard it is to push the pram, carry an umbrella go up and down kerbs whilst trying to avoid big puddles.

Christmas? Already? Ok i confess during my sleepless nights of imsomnia i planned what to get ds, dh, dm, db for christmas. Im sooo excited its a shame ds is too young to really understand the magic of christmas. Actually i should be happy that he would settle for wrapping paper to play with instead of presents. I dont think im getting anyone else. I cant really afford tbh.

KFFOREVER · 09/09/2013 15:46

Ahhh can someone explain wonder week 26? Does the fussy stage start earlier than wk 26? I hope so i was going through hell a couple of weeks back and seems so much more settled now whispers very quietly so ds can't hear.

SoYo · 09/09/2013 17:09

I can't believe we're even thinking about Christmas! I love Christmas but try to never think about it until December, I'm all about the last minute rushing around in a frenzy, maybe I'll change this year!

KFF, I may be wrong so feel free to correct me anyone that knows more, but I think the 26wWW premise is that the grumpiness and agitation starts around 23/24w and is over by the time they have a surge in development at 26w.

WingDefence · 09/09/2013 18:06

SoYo I hope that's the case with DD as that would be great now she's 23wks! She's in a right grump today and has had a runny nose for a couple of days so I think she feels rotten with a cold and gave her calpol (first time since her last jabs, last resort only) and I'm hoping that'll help. I've just put her down for a very late nap. Poor thing.

KF you'll learn the buggy-brolly trick soon, I promise you! I remember those fun days of pushing DS to nursery in all weather, rain, snow, hail, and then onto a sweaty train to work or back home in the dark. The joys Grin

WingDefence · 09/09/2013 18:06

Hmm, nap not happening :(

StormyBrid · 09/09/2013 18:11

Still not sure if it's wonder week or teeth. Teething gel plus calpol made her chill out for half an hour while we had tea though. She had chicken, broccoli and cauliflower. Meat well received as ever, less impressed by the veg, particularly when she was expecting chicken and got a mouthful of broccoli instead.

And the shouting has resumed, so much for my peaceful post prandial smoke. Roll on bedtime!

We're week 23 weeks and Severely grumpy... Although an absolute joy all day yesterday over with friends weirdly.

Question: unless I give him an entire bowl of food, he howls, is it possible to overfeed them at this stage?

Plonky IBS sucks Hmm do you take anything for it?

LaLaLeni · 09/09/2013 18:59

'Week 23 weeks'?! God I'm tired...

StormyBrid · 09/09/2013 19:19

We're past 26 weeks so probably teeth, thinking about it.

Other people are new and exciting, so get smiles and excited legs. Mummy and Daddy are boring, so get Shouty McGrumpypants all day. Argh.

KFFOREVER · 09/09/2013 19:48

leni i would have thought babies are good at telling us when they are full.

soyo phew i cant go through another ww again. The last one felt like it lasted for ages.

wingd i just have to learn to look way ahead to see oncoming puddles. Not looking forward to up and coming autumn winter travels with the pram.

I dont want to boast but we have had fantastic naps today. Ds must be going through the 6month growth spurt. 3 naps in all. 45min, 2hrs and 2.5hrs with a 6.45am wake up. That felt like a lay in for me. Hes also been draining his 6oz bottles which hasnt happened in a long time. Hes winging as he is tired but finding it hard to settle so glad dh is doing bedtime. Maybe i should go and save dh or maybe not Hmm.

StormyBrid · 09/09/2013 20:29

Let him get on with it, KF, it's a valuable learning experience. Grin. And I see your six ounce bottle and raise you an eight. Yes, eight, into the baby who famously hates milk. All hail the awesome power of the microwave!

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 09/09/2013 21:13

Ooh must learn how to hold a brolly while pushing a buggy up a muddy hill, or well be housebound all winter. Fingers crossed this'll be our last winter in this place, it's not at all conducive to being warm. DS hands were absolutely freezing when I got him up this morning.

Stormy you officially get Word of the Day for your use of prandial. Had to look it up, but it's a perfect description of the after dinner fag.

KF DS had a LOT of sleep on holiday. I can pinpoint his last day of the dreaded pre-wonder week hell to the day we flew to Madeira. 12 flozzes and half a small Ella's pouch all day. The next few days he was incredibly hungry and very tired. My mum saw him today and reckons he's an inch longer than a fortnight ago! Hopefully you're out the other side now.

Leni Your holiday sounds like an excuse for him to see his parents while you try to get by Hmm. Why not a break in the lakes? Or a jolly to Wales? Everywhere will be cold but a few family days with no other distractions might be a good opportunity to actually enjoy each other. I just want to give you a big hug. As for IBS medication...I've controlled it through diet and paracetamol for a long time. I used to get anti spasmodically and some gloopy orrible sugar drink but I hated relying on them. I blame my week away with certifiable nutjobs, poor diet and general travelling stress for the recent bout.

Ok I have a PIL AIBU. AIBU to bring home open boxes of cereal in my suitcase? The sugary imported rubbish brands are our favourite, abd very expensive on the island. anyway, we've opened seven boxes and don't plan to return until November, so I've a case full of half eaten Cinnamon Grahamas. Net worth roughly six euros.

SoYo · 09/09/2013 21:53

Plonko....YANBU. They're bonkers!

I cannot do the buggy/brolly trick. It's impossible. I will spend winter clad in North Face jacket with decent hood and bad hair.

Madam won't bloody go to sleep. We've tried every single trick in the book. Even feeding is failing. I'm shattered. Grrr.

StormyBrid · 09/09/2013 22:17

Brandy in the bottle, SoYo?

OP posts:
worsestershiresauce · 09/09/2013 23:12

Just checking in to say 'arghhhhhhhh......' before checking out again. I have no idea when wonder week fussiness is officially supposed to begin and end, but in worselet world we are right bang in the middle

All will be fine tomorrow prays

Night all. Sending you sleep vibes SoYo. Catch up with everyone else tomorrow

KFFOREVER · 10/09/2013 05:14

stormy 8 is impressive. I saved dh in the end. I think teething was a problem last night. I gave ds calpol and he finally slept. Up at 12 and 3ish for a feed. Drained both 6oz bottles and back to sleep. Dummy return at 5am. I think hes ready to wake for the day but im not.

We started blw yesterday evening with carrots and chicken. The food just comes out of his mouth again. I cant imagine him on 3 meals a day.

leni the only good thing about going back home for a holiday is that both parents can look after ds while you have couple time and work on things. But make this clear to your dp before you go away.

soyo worse good luck with the ww. This time next week this will be over.

plonky YANBU to bring home the boxes but YAB for not sharing with me us. Cinnamon grahams are the best but without milk.

Ive been up since 3. Bloody insomnia. Anyone else starting to reach breaking point on rl people giving you advice about everything baby related. One says one thing another says something else. If only we had a mute button for those people.

StormyBrid · 10/09/2013 06:26

We'll, I went to bed at 10, had just dozed off when the baby shouted in her sleep at ten to one and woke me. Then she woke at twenty to five, resisted going back to sleep for a bit, woke again at five to six. Have fed her - six ounces down with no fuss - and am now praying she goes back to sleep. Of all the night's to play silly buggers, she has to pick the one before the man's new job. He had to get up in half an hour, and I'll feel horrible if I'm still in bed when he leaves.

SoYo · 10/09/2013 12:24

Oh Stormy, afternoon nap today?

Madam went down at 10 Shock woke up at 11, then 3.15 & 6.30. Not bad!!!

Do you think you can over feed a baby? For breakfast madam had half a scotch pancake, half an orange and a full Ella's kitchen breakfast pouch. This seems a lot! I'm also starting to feel guilty about the vast volume of ready made pouches I'm using and think I should get off my arse and start making some purees. She had a lot of solid food too which I obviously cut up make. Is this just another pointless mummy guilt that I should ignore?

We're off to a petting farm this afternoon with my gorgeous nearly 3yo godson & his 10mo brother. It's always a danger when the kids outnumber the adults & there's animals in the equation too!

Plonky I hope the IBS settles quickly.

Rainbowbabyhope · 10/09/2013 15:03

soyo don't think you can over feed a baby especially if you are doing blw. DD is very clear when she is done - she throws the leftovers off the tray. She is equally clear when she has had enough breastmilk and turned her little head away very clearly! DD has a huge appetite for real food too and loves and munches absolutely everything. Today we had toast, mango and raspberries for breakfast and goats cheese on sourdough bread, fresh figs and greek yoghurt for lunch - so yummy - I am loving this weaning business and also rediscovering loads of really good food which is so fun to share with DD. Also great having family meals together right from the start!

DD is pretty slow on physical development stuff like rolling and no signs at all of crawling. But she has discovered consonants! She jabbers non-stop - lots of ba ba ba, mer mer mer, na na na, vvn, vvv, th th th (accompanied by a lot of drool) and ya ya ya. Think we have a chatterbox in the making!

Is anyone else struggling with stranger anxiety? DD screams whenever me or DH leave the room and also screams whenever she is handed to anyone else for a cuddle. Obviously lovely to know she is well attached and is leaning object permanence concept but it is really awkward now when family visit as previously this was just not an issue.

SoYo · 10/09/2013 15:31

Yep Rainbow me too, my parents are especially upset about it! It's much worst when she's tired, then she'll only go to me. I'm hoping its a short phase as before she would go to anyone which made life much easier.

StormyBrid · 10/09/2013 15:50

No anxiety with strangers here yet, although new people get a suspicious frown. She never really gets picked up by strangers though. She's seen my parents at least once a week since she was born though.

Still no crawling here, probably because she spends a lot less time on her tummy now she can sit up. When she does finally start I suspect it will be in the direction of a cat though.

Afternoon nap, for me? No chance. At least we've had a much less shouty day today so far. Just been out for lunch with my mum for her birthday. Cucumber and lettuce were met with a look of disdain. Tomato was thrown on the floor in disgust. The chips I didn't eat were thoroughly dribbled on before they joined the tomato. And baby led cole slaw, I can safely if stickily report, is excellent.

OP posts:
Plonkysaurus · 10/09/2013 15:58

Rainbow our babies sound quite similar. Though he's a big lad he's. more into looking and talking than moving about. Mer mer mer and gerherher are favourite sounds.

I don't think you can over feed a baby with purées or blw (we do both). If ds eats a lot of a sponge just has less milk later on in the day. SoYo I can thoroughly recommend making a few different purées and doing the ice cube trick. After his chicken and squash risotto lunch ds downed raspberry purée and custard like it was nectar from the gods. I'm so pleased he's into his food.

Well I've just blown two weeks shopping budget on a dirty night away for DPs birthday in a couple of weeks. Hope he appreciates it!

Plonkysaurus · 10/09/2013 15:59

Sponge? I promise I don't only feed him sponge.

He also gets a choice of towels to chew on.
