Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

MrsBri - I'm using aptamil as I'm combifeeding, could this be a happy medium for you?

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 16:31

Thanks, Steff :-)

Thankfully I bought a steriliser while pregnant, and some bottles. We have cartons of formula I bought for emergencies, which we have started on, so I need to buy some powder now. I think we will both be calmer now.

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 16:33

ladies who have had sections, do you know if there are any rules on having baths and using bubble bath? a friend just have me some new mum bubble bath and I was wondering about using it although not while it's so blooming hot! im in our coolest room and Ethan had just a nappy on it's 22.8 degrees in.here, I usually have it at 16/17 in the winter!

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 16:34

I'd try it, forget.

Can you PM me to tell me the details of how you do it?

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 16:36

I don't know Steff. I was considering a bath, but hadn't thought about that. :-/

Sarah2506 · 06/07/2013 16:51

mrsbri is there someone you can call to speak to about your situation? I seem to remember you saying there was a local support thing that lasted weeks to encourage bfing? Totally respect your decision to do what's best for you both but think it would be a shame to give it up when some local support could help? When they weighed Amy were they worried and what did they suggest?

Sarah2506 · 06/07/2013 16:52

steff no, you are fine to after your stitches are out!

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 16:57

The midwife was baffled really. Couldn't think why she wasn't gaining weight as all the other factors are there. I physically can't do any more than I am as I'm exhausted already.

She wasn't concerned as such, but I can't keep going through the weigh in stress. And Amy needs to grow.

Sarah2506 · 06/07/2013 17:25

The stress of the situation is not going to help at all! And I know if it was polly I would totally be reaching for formula- that's why it exists! As was suggested up thread, get some formula into her and then see how you feel. Combi feeding sounds like an excellent compromise. I think I've already said that when polly was being an absolute nightmare and just not feeding properly we found that expressing and feeding it back to her really helped- she stuck at the bottle in the way she wouldn't at the boob.

Should add I am so not part of the breastfeeding mafia. However it saves you money and helps you lose weight. For those reasons alone I am persevering!

massagegirl · 06/07/2013 17:41

MrsBri I totally understand, I used to dread the weigh in and see no progress, I cried a lot and was absolutely shattered. I found breast feeding clinic really helpful and they diagnosed tongue tie, others had missed it, since then she has put on weight but I am continuing to combi feed and it is a happy medium. I had so many days when I wanted to give it up. Crack open the formula get oh to give her bottle and you get some sleep and then see what you feel like doing be it ff or combi feed, I totally agree that happy mummy equals happy baby. It's bloody hard work this being a mummy.

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 17:59

we're finding the combi feeding is a happy medium for us, I like that he's still getting tge goodness from me but at the same time knowing he's getting fed enough,

Sarah good to know about a bath, had my stitches out at day 5, my oh says the scar looks amazing considering it is only just over 2 weeks ago now Smile

pinkbear82 · 06/07/2013 18:28

hi everyone. haven't had time to catch up as currently in hospital with Violet. (fear hormones may make this habit Tmi for lots- sorry)

I was feeding her yesterday when suddenly she stopped breathing and blood was coming out of her nose, dp got her breathing again and luckily we were very close to hospital. She is currently in hdu, being tube fed. They think milk got into her lungs and basically she suffocated on it Sad

I'm expressing for her feeds at the moment and am really trying nit to freak myself out about trying to breastfed her again when she is well enough.

I thought we had lost her, have never been so scared or relieved when she started crying again.

she has just been taken off of her oxygen to see how she gets on. Thank God she's stubborn!

hope everyone is ok - will try and catch up in the early hours of hand holding/expressing.

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 18:41

goodness pink, I.can't imagine what you were/are going through! glad you got to hospital and are in the best place, hope she picks up soon, sending positive thoughts your way Thanks

forgetmenots · 06/07/2013 18:45

Bloody hell pink Flowers you must have been so scared :(

I really hope Violet is better soon, and I hope you and your dp are doing okay - will be waiting to see your update.

massagegirl · 06/07/2013 18:47

Oh my god pink that is so awful and terrifying. Look after yourself and your lovely baby. Thank goodness she is alright x x

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 19:07

Oh Pink how horribly scary. Well done to your DH for having the presence of mind to do mouth to mouth. Must have been the longest wait for an ambulance in the world. My thoughts are with you.

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 19:13

Shit, pink. How utterly terrifying for you.

I'm so glad all seems to be getting better now. I hope they find out what happened and how to prevent it happening again for you. Xx

arlandria666 · 06/07/2013 19:26

my goodness pink how terrifying glad she is okay xxx

can I just ask if the heat has made anyone else's baby sleep more? Elliott has mostly slept between feeds today still had plenty of wet nappies but not like him (maybe its something to do with mammoth cluster feed 6 til midnight last nite...waking again at 2.30 awake til 5!! and back up at 7!!)

don't want to moan about the summer time but jeeeez its HOT!!

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 19:36

we've had a lot of awake today arlandria, had a good 4 hour stretch while we were out but have had pretty constant feeding/burping all afternoon, think he's uncomfortable, he's been stripped off vs a vest quite a few times

rrreow · 06/07/2013 19:50

Pink how awful and scary. Glad your DP literally saved her life. Hope she is doing better now.

Arlandria, Z has been feeding almost every hour today and not sleeping much. He seems quite uncomfortable with the heat. Probably a case of different babies like different things, I'd already noticed he doesn't like being warm (in the sling).

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 20:02

We've almost not had any sleep today in the heat. Shes clearly hot and using boob to try and cool down. She was on me practically the whole time from 7.30am to 3.30pm. We've just had a cool bath which appears to have helped.

DH's best man finally came to meet bubs this afternoon 3.5weeks after she was born. He only lives 10 mins away and its been a bit of a sore subject. Ive been so pissed off on his behalf as i think hes been a shit friend to DH recently and takes advantage of his good nature.

DontmindifIdo · 06/07/2013 20:13

Pink - gosh that's horrible to hear, I'd glad she's ok now though and well done for your DP.

We've also been feeding all day and sleepy but not getting any length of sleep.

Sunny, my BIL and SIL live a 15 minute drive away and they haven't met DD yet. She's 4.5 weeks. I was invited there for Wednesday afternoon (SIL is on mat leave with DN, who is coming up to a year, so not hard to leave the house with), Wednesday PM is the only time I can't do next week, she's not offering other times or offering to come here...

pinkapples · 06/07/2013 20:29

Oh no pinkbear! Well done to dp I hope baby picks up soon and your back home Thanks

The sun has not had a sleepy effect on Theiah all day she has been awake finally fell asleep at 5.40 woke at 7.30 and went straight back off (we've been out all day and she was very irritable so bath home wash and change into practically no clothes)

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 20:40

Don'tmind - that's pretty shoddy too.

I'm quite chuffed with myself as I have just learned a new skill. How to break eggs into a pan one handed like chefs do. In fact even cooler than that I did it with my right hand which is my wrong hand. Of course this was all necessitated by a cranky baby that won't be put down at all.

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 20:49

Pinkbear how terrifying for you. So glad your OH was with you x

The heat has not made my lo sleepy at all. She's been really irritable all afternoon, screaming as soon as she's put down/ off boob. Hoping she'll be worn out by bedtime!
