Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Thanks foe the supportive messages on my update. Smile

it doesn't seem as warm here either. Although having not left the house yet I could well just be wrong as our house tends to stay cool when it's warm out.

Little miss has been far less settled in the night than last night. But she's just fed and seems pretty content at the moment. She's doing what DS did tho and guzzling her milk only to end up making herself sick as she's had too much- probably common with formula I suppose. We're trying to sort it by rationing her during the feed so that she's digesting little bits at a time. She's not happy about that tho !

Feel like a bad mummy this morning. I just had to try to cut some of her nails as they are beyond scarily long. I clipped a little too far with one. She's fine and hardly reacted. I'm the one that was in tears.

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 06:36

ami we have to have burping pauses with Ethan else he ends up covering dp with sick Grin

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 07:33

Awww, AmI :-( I need to do Amy's nails too. We're just keeping scratch mitts on for now.

I forgot to respond to your update, sorry. I'm glad you stick to your guns. They can't muck you about like that. It's not fair. At least the consultant saw sense.

And our house stays cool too. It was 20.8 in our room overnight. Not so bad.

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 08:07

Oh, Ella, my eBay chair is much nicer than my other one.

It's a Serenity chair sold by Proqom on eBay. Ordered Weds, came yesterday. It's very comfy.

AlohaMama · 06/07/2013 08:40

Joining you all on the recent mammoth feeding frenzies. Had friends round to dinner and a baby pretty much attached to the boob for about three hours. Ouchie. I'm guessing it might be weather related here too as today was a hot one. 30 ish and only light breeze. Hoping the feeding marathon means a long sleep now? she says hopefully

AmI well done you for sticking to your guns though sounds very frustrating that you were denies a scan before. You must have been all over the place mentally. Hope you're feeling OK and can just concentrate on your little one.

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 08:55

MrsBri are you sure Amy is feeding for the full 90 mins and not just comfort sucking at the end? Anna feeds for about 10 mins on one side, I'll then change her nappy to wake her up and then swap her to the other side for another 10 mins. She only goes 2 hourly in the day though generally. Glad your new chair is good. I know lying down isn't for everyone. Luckily don't need to worry about this duvet in this weather!

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 09:39

She is feeding, yes. Or her jaw is going like she is!

She's a big baby so eats well :-)

I sometimes get comfort sucking, but thankfully not too often.

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 09:54

Oh, and she's glugging too so definitely eating!

And 90 mins is 3 boobs as it's generally 30 mins per boob, then she takes herself off.

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 09:57

I just did a whole night by myself and baby behaved!! Yay. DH was on night shift and after last weekends disaster I was worried it would all go Pete Tong but it went ok apart from the fact she hasn't been back to sleep since 7.30 (she normally sleeps on DHs chest then) so I've not had breakfast but I can afford to miss a few meals in return for a quiet life.

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 09:59

MrsBri what are the minimum feeding requirements you are following? We're just feeding on demand and I gave up on that app after 2 days so no idea how many feeds she is doing. She did put on over 200g in a week so clearly isn't starving.

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 10:12

On demand too really, to an extent, but at least every 3 hours during the day and every 4 at night if we are having to wake her.

We get weighed again today, so will see how we're doing.

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 10:13

Anna does 2 to 3 hourly during day with 20 min feed each time, then cluster feeds from 7 to 9 ish. At night she goes about 3.5 hrs but only feeds for 10/15 mins then straight back to sleep. Suppose she might go longer at night if I made the effort to convince her to have the other boob but I'm too tired and lazy!

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 10:15

Is your midwife still visiting MrsBri? Mine only weighed her once at 6 days and then health visitor weighed yesterday at 10 days. Not getting weighed again til 6 weeks now.

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 10:32

Anna is clearly an efficient feeder! Amy is still glugging away at 10-15 minutes!

And yes, the midwife is still visiting. I think because I had a CS, but I'm not sure! Or maybe because we aren't back up to birth weight yet. Who knows?!

Every area does things differently anyway, so can't compare to anywhere else!

BumbleBee2011 · 06/07/2013 11:07

Just had our first really good night, after feeding non stop yesterday Millie slept from 11pm til 3:30, then woke again at 6:30, then 8:30 - and because of her busy day out yesterday her big sister also slept in til then!

Only downside is my boobs were full to bursting by 8:30 as she only takes one side per feed, so I've now got the pump/steriliser/bottles out - got 150ml within 20 minutes, so first deposit has now been made into our milk bank Smile Brings back memories of sitting in my friend's office expressing during lunchtime at work.

Hoping today is a sleepy day, then I can help DH out with the gardening.

RueDeWakening · 06/07/2013 12:02

Morning (just!) all :o

M is currently sleeping, has been since just gone 9am, so have spent the morning getting the paddling pool out and filled for the big two, who are now running naked around the garden. Fun times!

And I've managed to do a fair amount in the house, so am feeling pleasantly productive, hurrah. Need M to wake up fairly soon though, else I (or my boobs at least) might explode.

MrsBri - we weren't discharged till M was 3ish weeks old, because he wasn't back to birth weight. He got weighed every 3 or 4 days for the duration Hmm it was a complete pain.

AmI - congrats, and good for you for managing to stick to the original plan and not being sent home!

Re BFing - M is having snacks/drinks rather than full feeds mostly at the mo. Which is a bit of a pain as I never feel he's fed properly, but then I lose my appetite when it's hot too, so maybe it's normal. He fed 15 times yesterday for no longer than 15 minutes max but normally 6-8 mins (according to that app!).

rrreow · 06/07/2013 12:14

Definitely also noticing the snacking/feeding for thirst trend too. Small feeds as often as hourly sometimes!!

I'll be on my own with both DC today from early afternoon onwards. DH is working till midnight. I'm sure I'll survive but am a bit apprehensive!

Was thinking of taking them out as there is a square fair near here. But what do you do when you're out & about and the baby needs feeding? Keeping in mind that DS1 is 26mo and I can't really tell him to stay put somewhere, he'd just wander off. Would love to go though, this weather is too good to stay inside! Any advice?

curlyclaz13 · 06/07/2013 13:03

lots of drinking going on here, not a lot of sleeping though. We are going to the poxy fete in a bit so I am going to try to feed him to sleep and cross my fingers he will sleep in the car on the way there and stay asleep in the pram when we get there. I have no chance do I ? !

AlohaMama · 06/07/2013 13:10

Rrreow I found that taking did in the carrier means she'll usually stay asleep most times we've been out. I've bf her a couple of times at the playground which has worked OK as ds (also 26 no) will at least stay in the vicinity and I can walk around while bf just enough to follow ds around. For longer expeditions my plan is to always take the pushchair so I can strap ds in if necessary and keep him amused with books and snacks. Mainly snacks. Fortunately Evie is a pretty quick feeder, usually less than 12 mins or so, so hopefully ds will stay put.

curlyclaz13 · 06/07/2013 13:13

Didn't quite finish that post as someone wanted boob ! I haven't fed in public yet and OH just said we won't be able to park close so I can't sit in the car to feed.

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 13:27

Yes think Anna is quite efficient feeder. Also she never lost any birth weight so must be why we hardly saw midwives.

Feeding in shade at a carnival currently, luckily OH here too with other kids, although I could trust my 4 year old not to wander. I'm using an apron style feeding cover I bought on eBay for £7 and its fab!

BumbleBee2011 · 06/07/2013 14:27

Haha Aloha I was going to suggest good to keep a 26mo "entertained" whole feeding a baby - our eldest is obsessed with babybels though admittedly she gobbles most things up quite quickly.

Curly I used to practice "public feeding" at home iyswim, using a cover or feeding top in my front room first so that I didn't panic once out and about. I'd say by the time you've used something twice at home you're unlikely to get caught out by straps/things getting stuck etc, even if you're a bit flustered. It does feel like an achievement the first time you feed in public, and before you know it you won't be giving it a second thought. Makes life a lot easier being able to feed literally anywhere.

BumbleBee2011 · 06/07/2013 14:28

That was supposed to be "food" to entertain toddlers...

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 15:50

So...still no weight gain. I think I'll switch to formula now as I can't be doing with the stress of trying to feed Amy enough to gain weight. Amy needs a relaxed mum as well as food.

Just need to work out what we need to buy and how often.
