Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

maybe he was just exhausted from yesterday we've not been out since half 8 this morning it's really cool in my lounge so maybe that's helped he has still woke for feeds and has been feeding on and off since 6.30 but we have had first non windy smiles tonight :)

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 21:29

anyone else's lo's thrown up? Ethan has now had 2 baths as he threw up all over dp and then Moses basket a few hours later, not sure if he's over eating because he's hot, he's not running a temperature. he's not very giving with his burps either so think he may be over eating there too, just hope this one doesn't end up coming back up

Olimoss · 06/07/2013 21:49

Pink - so sorry to hear that but glad she's in HDU and you were quick to get her there. Doesn't stop it being terrifying though, does it? I really empathise....good luck. X

Joe has just been in an aussie-style vest & nappy on these warm days, not even covering him up at night, bar a single muslin over the Moses basket after the 3am feed. He's been a bit of a nightmare (to be fair, prob not that much of a nightmare, but def diffcult compared to his usual self) with his schedule last couple of days. Am hoping he's just figuring out how to eat more/sleep longer!

Can I ask a tmi question? Prob most relevant to those of you combi-feeding, especially if expressing breastmilk. How long did you bleed with lochia for, and if you got your period, how quickly dd it come?

pink, what a scary thing to happen. Well done to your OH for saving her. I hope she is home soon with no ill effects.
Oscar was grizzly all morning but fell asleep in time for the fete so we had to go Sad . We didn't even look round as we ended up in the pub ! then at family friends house. OHs mum kept saying 'I WANT a cuddle, I haven't had one this week'. I was thinking I wants don't get. Then I kept being told leave him here while you go to the fete, err no if he wakes he needs feeding !
back home now after buying a fan on the way and he is asleep on me.

learnermummy · 06/07/2013 22:05

Steffanoid Anna threw up entire feed this morning all over me and we both had to get into the shower together! Think just overeating due to heat.

pinkbear82 · 06/07/2013 22:05

thank you everyone. She's settled nicely for now and stats are looking better than they have done.

bloody scary and I just had a massive wobble when dp sent me to rest, the stopping let me think about it all far too much. Although I know I should rest, I don't think I will be able too while in here and Violet isn't 100%.

Can't help but now have a massive question over feeding her again. I know there was probably nothing I could have done differently but I can't help feeling it all happened while I was doing something for her and that's to blame. Hmm

As for this weather it has a lot to answer for in messing up routines for you all - keeping little people hydrated and cool is not an easy task! hope everyone has a good
night xx

pinkapples · 06/07/2013 22:07

Oli I was combi feedin until 2 days ago but now Theiah's just having formula but I'm still expressing to help sore boobs I was bleeding until about 8/10 days after birth then it stopped but I had another bleed on day 16 which has now stopped (now I get a pink tinge when I wipe but am now wearing my old knickers and no pads)

SunnyL · 06/07/2013 22:21

Ach ive lost count of how many times ive been puked on today. In fact had to break off from writing this to catch some projectile vomit. Shes been feeding all day as hot, doing a tactical chunder and then demanding more. Looooooong day!

AmIGoingMad · 06/07/2013 22:23

Pinkbear that's awful! So glad that things are picking up now! Poor you and Violet and thank goodness your oh was so amazing. Sending huge hugs to you all.

Mrsbri don't worry whichever way you decide to go on the feeding. You've done amazingly well already and Amy will thrive if you decide to ff, bf or combination. I know I've said this before but I truly believe that a happy mummy is the best thing for any little one. I know children who are amazing in every way who were breast fed. I know equally as many who were formula fed- including our DS. Have a think and just go with what's right for your family.

Steffanoid · 06/07/2013 23:08

so glad it's not just us on the vomit/restless issue, have finally got Ethan settled strangely in a long sleeve/legged suit and nappy, he was sleeping on us but waking when put down in just a vest he woke up, think he didn't feel safe enough in just the vest, hopefully we'll get a few hours now,

Anyone not getting any sleep watch the film wanted on ITV, it's got James mcavoy in it and Angelina jolie I luffs it

pinkapples · 06/07/2013 23:51

Well after a 6-10pm sleep stint I am now suffering for it as baby has just had a feed and is now raving in the Moses basket not looking like I'm getting any sleep is it! Grin

curlyclaz13 · 06/07/2013 23:57

25.5 c in here and rising the fan is on so it feels a bit cooler. have got him in a nappy and 0.5 tog bag not sure if that is 'right' or not. just fed but he is still wriggling so might need to do other boob then cross fingers for sleep.
fair bit of vom here today as well. Poor little ones don't know what to do with themselves.

AlohaMama · 07/07/2013 00:58

pinkbear that sounds absolutely horrendous. I'm so glad she's doing better, hope you're home soon. I can appreciate your worry about breastfeeding. I'm now slightly freaked out as Evie fairly regularly chokes when I feed her as I think my milk flow is a bit forceful. Even waiting the few seconds for her to breathe again is scary so I can't even imagine how you felt.

Sorry for everyone struggling with the heat. It's pretty much like that here every day at the moment but I figure babies here are probably more acclimatized to it, so I try not to worry. Evie sleeps at night in short sleeve babygro and swaddling blanket under her arms (made out of thin jersey) but we have the ceiling fan on. Day time, just in nappy or short sleeve babygro.

Hawkmoth · 07/07/2013 03:06

Pinkbear, hope Violet is back to full fitness soon. Really can't imagine what you went through, I don't know what I would do.

Re combi feeding, finding it v difficult to get baby to take bottles, but need to get her weight up quickly. She's having 3oz after each feed, but really only taking between one and two. I'm starting to really stress about the weight gain, and just want to start enjoying her. Seems my chest infection is getting better at last though. I'm coughing much less but still quite breathless and sore when I do anything. Ear and throat still bad, but no longer full of mucous, which is a relief!

I've not been out with baby yet as I don't have the energy. Last night I moved the washing to the dryer and reloaded the machine... I was exhausted and weak as a kitten. Difficult not to feel just a bit useless.

MrsBri · 07/07/2013 08:21

Hawkmoth, I'm sorry you're stressed about weight gain. It's a horrible feeling, isn't it, positively dreading the next weigh in?

I hope baby starts eating more soon and you can start to relax.

And other places outside of the house will be there when you feel better. Just concentrate on getting well and you can do more afterwards. :-)

SunnyL · 07/07/2013 08:41

I reckon Lily's true calling is to go work for the CIA. Just when you think she is going to break you she backs off and turns into perfect baby again. Yesterday was rubbish. She was far too hot and used me as an ice lolly all day, didnt think she was ever going to settle last night and stop screaming and then whammo. Lovely sleepy little girl slept in her basket perfectly.

Really need to read the signs of when she is getting overheated and strip her off earlier. She slept in just a nappy last night until 5.30am when i put her nightshirt on.

As a result DH and i were planning on booking a cheapy holiday to theCanary islands in sept/oct but we're going to wait and see if she copes any better with the heat by then. Otherwise it might need to be a city break somewhere cold!

Hawkmoth · 07/07/2013 11:03

Just wondering... Any babies got tiny boobies? It's very odd and didn't happen with my other two.

MrsBri · 07/07/2013 11:52

Yes, Amy has. It's the hormones in your breast milk. :-)

ella0 · 07/07/2013 11:59

I love that term, DontMind Grin

Thanks for the chair info MrsBri.

I was shown the lying down position first and like it, but I'm scared of falling asleep.

The midwife visited us more often, I think partly because I'd had a c-section and she had to administer the injections, remove the stitches and check the wound, but also because our baby lost quite a bit of weight (she was a very big baby at birth!) and she wanted to check that she was gaining it back (and more) before she discharged us. It was a stressful time but the midwife was really supportive and made me promise I wouldn't get stressed over it. She said it was just because she was such a big baby.

MrsBri, you've had a big baby too so it will be harder work to get her to gain weight. I feel for you as I was in the same situation a few weeks back. With breastfeeding, it's hard to know how much they're taking in. My husband now gives baby one bottle a night (expressed if I've had time, or if not, formula), which gives me a break and we can also see how much she's having for one feed at least. Starting this was the turning point for us, and baby started to gain weight with just this one bottle (I breastfeed the rest of the time). As Sarah has found, she sticks at the bottle. You have to do whatever is best for you, I agree that happy mummy equals happy baby.

My baby is a snacker too. At the moment, in the day she usually feeds for 5-10 minutes at most. Later on in the day it's constant snacking and I don't get 10 minutes to myself between feeds (I wish she'd have one big feed then give me a half hour break!).

I haven't fed in public yet either (unless you count a special feeding room) and I'm worrying about it. I bought a cover but I feel self conscious wearing it. I'm tempted to take expressed milk in a bottle when we go out.

Steff, I've been told to use nothing on my c-section wound for 6 weeks (I was told this when they took the stitches out!), so no bubble baths. Though I've been adding a couple of drops of lavender oil (in milk) to my baths anyway.

I'm so sorry to hear about what happened pinkbear. Thank goodness she's alright.

My baby has been awake more and more irritable in this warm weather.

MrsBri · 07/07/2013 12:39

That's interesting to know, ella. And it provides me with hope too. :-)

At least you had a midwife visit to do the clexane injections. My DH did mine! And my stitches were dissolvable.

Apparently my wound looks great and may not leave much of a scar either. Which is great.

I think we will just FF now to be honest. I'm mentally drained from breast feeding, which isn't good for either of us. I do feel a bit bad for her. But ultimately she needs to grow and we both need to be happy.

curlyclaz13 · 07/07/2013 13:19

Those of you expressing what pump are you using , I want to express so OH can do maybe one feed a day and a few on hungry horace days ! Don't want to (and can't afford ) spend a fortune.

Sarah2506 · 07/07/2013 13:29

Ella I have a cover and I love it but I really wouldn't recommend you take it on its first outing in this weather. This is because it gets pretty hot under there as it is and also the first time you use it the baby is a bit 'why is there a sheet on my head'. I would defo practice at home before cracking it open in public as it were!

learnermummy · 07/07/2013 13:38

Actually found my apron cover invaluable today Sarah as we were out at car show and there was no shade so at least she was covered when feeding. Stupidly hot to be out today though, home now to cool off and watch the tennis! Have sent OH off to Argos for a tower fan!

massagegirl · 07/07/2013 13:47

Learner I'm just back from argos with a fan! Has really helped cool her down.

Steffanoid · 07/07/2013 13:54

curly we've got the tommee tippee one we've got the bottles too so it all fits together, I wasn't too keen on the one we had in hospital, medela I think? hurt my nipples, the tt one has got a silicone cone so is a bit more malleable
