Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

What a nightmare AmI! Glad it all worked out for you Jan the end.

MrsBri have you tried lying down to feed in bed? I wouldn't do it any other way, but them I am very lazy!!

That app is great by the way rrreow, nice to start to see her feeding pattern. She's 10 days old and already put on 6 oz so am v lucky that my milk must be good stuff Smile.

Just getting the paddling pool out here. Enjoy the sunshine everyone x

Steffanoid · 05/07/2013 14:43

well done ami for sticking to your guns, can't believe they decided to scan you after tgey wouldn't last week, silly people!

rrreow · 05/07/2013 14:52

Just went to a mums & baby meet up, now sitting in the station with baby in sling listening to a man play the piano! Feeling quite positive despite ongoing sleep deprivation.

BumbleBee2011 · 05/07/2013 16:27

Wow AmI, well done for sticking to your guns, I would've been raging after they wouldn't scan you before (!!) Sounds like everything is/was under control doing it your way, sometimes that's the best thing you can do by your existing family, so definitely the right call there.

Ella0, DD1 used to do the end of feed chewing thing with me, when she was about 4 weeks old I caved and we got one of those orthodontic dummies - she immediately settled down (as did my nipples). Not my proudest parenting moment but who knows, we might not have carried on BFing without that little bit of respite. Plus she was starting to suck her fingers, which was a red flag for me (my sisters and I all sucked our fingers til quite late, I think at least you can take a dummy off a child for things like school!) I think she even settled into a healthier feeding pattern as opposed to the constant snacking taking place before. Once she'd fallen asleep I'd take the dummy out so she would still wake up to feed.

It's been just me and Millie today, DH has taken DD1 to York Railway Museum with FIL. MW has just been and discharged me, Millie's gaining weight nicely and her jaundice has cleared already so yay!

Hope you're all enjoying the sun, I'm enjoying the tennis on TV...tomorrow we're tackling the jungle that is our garden, so we can make the most of it next week!

curlyclaz13 · 05/07/2013 16:45

What are you dressing your little ones in in this heat ? at home Oscar is pretty much just in a short sleeved vest but I put a sleepsuit on him to go out earlier but I am not sure if this is too much ? I have bought a couple of 'short' sleepsuits today for the weekend and if the weather continues !

learnermummy · 05/07/2013 16:55

At the moment Anna is sleeping in the pram in the garden wearing just a short sleeved vest. I did add a pair of trousers when we went out earlier. It's so hard to know how much they need to be wearing isn't it.

Steffanoid · 05/07/2013 17:19

Ethan protested to being in a short sleeve vest and socks earlier, wouldn't settle till he had his long sleeve suit back on, think he likes being toasty like me!

pinkapples · 05/07/2013 17:19

Curly I was just wondering that Grin

Theiah's been asleep in a vest today sleep suit with no vest for bed and then we dress her in tshirt and trousers for going out so that she's covered up bought her a hat today from tesco to cover her head as all she had is knitted ones but it is so warm I haven't got a clue what's to much or not enough

ella0 · 05/07/2013 17:33

Thanks bumblebee, I'm very tempted to try an orthodontic dummy now as she is a constant snacker at times, and does try to suck her fingers sometimes (very true about being able to take a dummy off them). Anything to get her into a healthier feeding pattern!

Flippin autocorrect tried to change snacker to snicker and then slacker!

curlyclaz13 · 05/07/2013 18:05

I am failing at finding a sun hat for him I have jersey ones but they seem warm. I want a cotton one with a brim particularly if he is in the sling. anyone seen any ?

Steffanoid · 05/07/2013 19:06

I got one from Sainsburys curly, saw some in mothercare too im sure

webminx · 05/07/2013 19:18

Hello, can I join? DS2 was due 23rd June but just arrived today. He won't latch on and has done nothing but sleep since he was born at lunchtime today. I've tried naked tummy time on me, sleeping on me, trying to express the colostrum into his mouth etc. but it's not working! I've even dribbled some drops of formula (from one of those readymade bottles) into his mouth but he's spat it out and gone back to sleep. MW seems pretty relaxed about it, but I can't relax and take a much needed sleep (quite a long labour!) until I've at least got a couple of drops of food into him! What should I do? Any advice? Sleep and try again when he wakes up or try to wake him up and drip some expressed colostrum into him again? I can only get 3-4 drops at a time! He's still bringing up mucous from birth too, which doesn't help...
I FF DS1 so this is all new to me! Any help welcome!

learnermummy · 05/07/2013 19:43

Welcome webminx Smile and congratulations.
I wouldn't worry too much yet. My first was like that and his labour was long. Jaundice made him very sleepy and uninterested too. Have yourself a sleep and try again later.

DontmindifIdo · 05/07/2013 19:50

Ella - DD also does what we have named "the dramatic finish" (ie "lets see how far mummy's nipple will stretch" - ouch"!) so far I've not found a solution. She's also clamping down and hurting quite badly at the start.

Webminx - I had similar problems with DS, skin to skin is great. No better advice (ended up having to express for a few days), can you post on the breast feeding board? Some v good advice on there.

Steffanoid · 05/07/2013 20:13

webminx hi and congrats, if the mw isn't bothered I wouldn't either, he's been through the labour too and is tired like you, get a couple of hours if you can stop staring at him for that long and try again later Smile

pinkapples · 05/07/2013 21:19

Welcome webminx don't panic Theiah was born and slept she didn't eat till midnight and was born at 3.32 Grin I wouldn't panic x

webminx · 05/07/2013 21:30

Thanks all - have sterilized the electric pump and will express some more colostrum and syringe that in later. Have also given a teaspoon of formula and he's gone back to sleep. Phoned labour ward also and they had very similar suggestions so not going to stress out. Going to grab the chance of a nap as suggested! :-)

MrsBri · 05/07/2013 22:10

Evening...bad day here in that Amy has been sleepy and uninterested during feeding and has had loads less today than the last few days. :-/ Dreading her weigh in tomorrow.

And I'm struggling with constantly feeding her too. On a 3 hour feeding schedule I'm only getting 90 minutes to myself due to how long she feeds for. I've just let her go 4 hours as I was asleep which isn't great for getting food into her.

The thought of another night like last night where she didn't sleep til gone 5 just fills me with dread.

But anyway! Ella, our first chair is a Baby Weavers from Kiddicare and the new one is from eBay. Not sure which but came to about 114 quid with postage.

Learner, yes, I've tried lying down feeding and I'm not keen on it. It wouldn't work at home due to our duvet also.

Steffanoid · 05/07/2013 22:23

I take back my pp about Ethan wearing loads, he's spent the past hour in just nappy, he was crying and felt warm in just the vest, took his temp which was 37 under his armpit, cue me spotting imaginary rashes, he's eating loads this evening and being quite an awake little boy

MrsBri · 05/07/2013 22:33

We can't be as hot up here as a lot of you seem to be. Maybe because we're coastal?

It's still only 19 degrees in our house so no overheating.

rrreow · 05/07/2013 22:48

It's 26 degrees in our bedroom currently! Got the fan on.

MrsBri, I think a sleepy day after a hungry day is normal. Z fed like mad on day 10, then slept a lot on day11. I totally hear you about dreading the nights. I'm currently averaging around 5-6 hours a night spread over 4 stretches. Slowly going insane...

curlyclaz13 · 05/07/2013 23:10

24 degrees here, Oscar is in a 0.5 tog sleep bag for the first time tonight so I hope he sleeps in it. I think we will be buying a fan pretty soon. I would agree with sleepy day after hungry day.

MrsBri · 05/07/2013 23:19

That's good to know. Hopefully it's just that then. We've had two very hungry days, so would make sense.

I get about 3.5 hours' sleep in one hit at night then nap for about 1.5 hours late evening to see me through the night. I totally understand your insanity, rrreow.

arlandria666 · 05/07/2013 23:57

Elliott has been feeding so much lately I am hoping its a 6 week growth spurt and not just due to the heat a heatwave is surely going to dry me out!! I have just put him down he has been feeding on and off (more on!!) since 6 o'clock I am hoping he will sleep for at least 3 hours but he is still stirring now so I am not hopeful :(

MrsBri · 06/07/2013 04:19

Hmmm...we have one of those womb noise things now and Amy managed to settle in her bed nest when I put her in it, which she hasn't been doing. So I've just has 3 hours' sleep.

When she's changed I'll do another feed and see what happens. We will have only done 8 feeds in 24 hours though, which is loads less than normal and only just hitting the minimum requirement. :-/

See what she's like today, I suppose. Though if I use figures between midnight - midnight it's different. Maybe I'll do that and hope today is better. :-)
