Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

We have a womb noise thingy that mum sent me. I think she likes that as she's taken to hitting it herself to keep it going or start it once it stops!

And yes she has a dummy but won't take it today.

She's so bloody grumpy! And now asleep in my arms. Hoping I can transfer her to the basket soon though, without starting the crying again. I'm not very good with a crying baby :-/

I think she may be a bit constipated. Thankfully I got her to drink some water a while ago so fingers crossed that moved things along!

If anyone has any more suggestions I'm open to all!

pinkbear82 · 30/07/2013 11:06

Sounds like you are doing fab mrsbri! It's frustrating that what works one day seems alien another.
Hope she settles in her basket when you put her down. Fingers crossed for you

arlandria666 · 30/07/2013 11:08

I also cover Elliott's carry cot over if he is too over tired...figure he has nothing to look at he will get bored and fall asleep lol it does eork tho
good luck grumpy over tired babies are not much fun are they?
what about putting something in there that smells of you? Elliott likes a muslin in there usually one we've just used...I figure it must smell of me or sick which means I smell of sick (which is possibly true!!)

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 11:20

I've established it's a cling to mummy day! Basket = screaming, holding = sleep. I didn't want to do anything today!

The blood curdling screams are awful, aren't they? :-(

Ooh, think she may have filled her nappy. Hopefully once she's had a good poo she will be happier! :-)

Eau de Vom, arlandria?! Nice ;-p

arlandria666 · 30/07/2013 11:32

never mind taking a change of clothes for the little one when we go out I have to take a top for me too!! sicky baby when being winded!!

how old is Amy now? I remember Elliott had a terrible week about 5/6 weeks nothing would soothe him apart from being on me it was like his moses basket mattress was made of pins!! I didn't think it would ever end thankfully it did!!

My sister told me a babies cry triggers a mum's hormones...It triggers something...tears of my own at some points

not easy being a mummy think I thought it would akk come naturally...I was wrong lol

curlyclaz13 · 30/07/2013 11:45

MrsBri it's the same here a grumpy, clingy baby today. I want to bake ! from about 6 every time I put him down he crys then screams so sat on the sofa with him on me watching bad tv.

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 11:59

5 weeks, 2 days, Arlandria. Seems to coincide with your problems.

At the moment her cry triggers boob leakage! You'd think I'd have dried up by now, wouldn't you?

I think she has trapped wind. The Infacol isn't helping today either :-/ Poor little thing.

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 12:00

Is there something in the air, curly?!

AmIGoingMad · 30/07/2013 12:23

Oh dear! I hope they settle soon!

Elodie's been thrown a bit as HV came when she would usual have a nice long nap. That also means that I haven't been able to give DS undivided attention at all today so I'm feeling rubbish about thatHmm
He's about to head over to gps now and is probably looking forward to escaping from us both!

Can't believe it tho- Elodie certainly does have a crazy big appetite. She's now 10lb 14 at 4 wks tomrw and was 8lb 15 born! I think I'd better take those up to a month clothes back for exchange.

rrreow · 30/07/2013 12:26

I put on about 12kg and am currently about 3kg above pre-preg weight (I'm sure 2kg of that is boobs.. Hmm). Definitely more fat around my belly though Sad I'm hoping to do some roller skating soon. Had my 6w (8w) checkup yesterday and the GP just said to let my body tell me how much I can do in terms of sport.

Z has days where he's very easy, and then other days where he's just the most fussy/cry-y/difficult baby ever. It's frustrating as you never know what you're going to get!! He's done a 4-5 hour stretch overnight twice now, so that bodes well. Hope he starts doing that more consistently. The difference between 1 night feed or 3 is the difference between feeling human and a zombie.

I have to say I am super glad to have childcare for DS1. I don't think I could look after both of them full time. I guess the tradeoff is working, doing about 2-4 hours a day at the moment depending on what Z allows, but I usually don't mind too much. Much admiration for you gals looking after 2 (or more?!).

Ooh curious we've just booked a holiday to Florida next year too! DS1 will be nearly 3yo at that point, so I think he'll really be able to enjoy going to Disney (and so will I Grin). Do you need to book tickets for Disney in advance? We're going to be travelling (actually travelling from NY to Florida in a motorhome!) so probably won't know until much closer to the time when we'll be in specific places.

MrsBri Z cries before he settles. Not full blown sad crying, but general fussing / low-level crying noises. Usually for about 5 minutes and then he passes out. It's a real education because DS1 used to need to be picked up a lot more, comforted or fed to sleep. I really need to sit on my hands to let Z do his own thing.

pinkapples · 30/07/2013 12:39

Theiah doesn't really cry just a bit of whining and general tired noises a bit of grunting too Grin quite funny when you listen to it Grin

SunnyL · 30/07/2013 12:48

MrsBri and Curly just to give you hope after yesterday's horrid day we appear to be having a good day today. DH has managed to get Lil asleep in her Moses basket (she NEVER sleeps during the daytime in it) and I've done the dishes, hoovering, dusting, bathrooms, changed the beds, done my hair, makeup, done 2 loads of washing and I'm now sat down eating a proper lunch.

Of course DH has just gone to work so I could be in for fireworks later but if you get a horrid day followed by a good day it is totally re-invigorating.

I'm now about 1lb heavier than I was before pregnancy. However before I was cycling 1.5hrs a day, going to gym twice a week and walking my dog every day so there was a lot more muscle than I have now. I'm doing weight watchers though and have about 2 stone to loose by Christmas. I want to do it while BF'ing as you get so many more points. It will be much harder to loose the weight I think when I'm back at work near the amazing biscuit tin (our office manager is c. 25 stone and buys the most fabulous biscuits).

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 14:07

That's good to know, Sunny. Would you believe she was good as gold for daddy at lunch time? :-/

I just tried to have a walk but chose a time too near good time, so pushed a squawking baby at speed for half a mile. Fail!

May try again after food. :-)

And also good to know that others' babies can be awkward little buggers too!

I had the full on blood curdling cry trying the basket earlier. If it had been a little cry I'd have left her in there. Poor thing!

curiousgeorgie · 30/07/2013 14:14

rreow - my DD1 will turn 3 while we're there Smile everyone's telling me that DD2 won't get anything out of it but we took DD1 to Disney Paris when she was 6 months old and she still seemed to like it Wink

We're buying our park tickets early just because we can find a good deal that way as there are quite a lot of us going, but when I went pre DC there were booths for selling discounted tickets absolutely everywhere so you shouldn't need to worry. I can't wait! The baby is actually sleeping in her basket for a change so DD and I are looking at Disney parade videos on YouTube while we have Toy Story on in the background Grin

arlandria666 · 30/07/2013 15:31

mrsbri I foolishly paid for an app wonder years on someone's advice and it plots babies behaviour...week 5 has a massive thunder cloud over it but says week 6 you start to see the sunnier side to your baby lol it has been true so far ish...I will see if I can upload it to the Facebook page

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 16:11

I've just seen that and told DH! It all becomes clear now.

She's thankfully calmed down a bit now, but we've just achieved the holy trinity of pooed / clean nappy, fed and winded for the first time today. Phew!

rrreow · 30/07/2013 17:07

Thanks for uploading that pic arlandria, it definitely makes sense!

curlyclaz13 · 30/07/2013 18:11

Do we have our owb fb page ?

Sunbeam18 · 30/07/2013 18:14

Another unsettled baby here at 5 weeks, MrsBri! Crying constantly, nothing making him happy ... We had very little sleep last night , and he wants to feed all the time. Would be good to think its a phase that others are going through, and I'm not alone!

learnermummy · 30/07/2013 18:27

Still hugely fat here with zero libido Hmm. Can't even find any summery clothes in stock in bigger sizes. Wasn't planning third child so got rid of all 'fat' clothes a while back. No time to exercise with all the kids either. Moan over. At least Anna is sucking quite a few calories out of me!!

learnermummy · 30/07/2013 18:31

By the way in terms of contraception I can recommend the book take control of your fertility - good for avoiding and achieving pregnancy. You really get to know your own cycle. We were using to avoid til I got a bit lazy with it but knew immediately after DTD that I would get pregnant!

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 19:02

We do, curly.

I can add you if you PM me your name / email address.

MrsBri · 30/07/2013 19:03

Ah, Sunbeam, it's a relief that we are suffering together!

Steffanoid · 30/07/2013 20:05

my 6 week appt was as useful as a chocolate teapot! if was a questionnaire to make sure I've not got pnd she didn't weigh or measure Ethan grr, really threw me off for the day, oh well at least it was a 3.5k walk
