Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Hi everyone sorry its taken me so long to join the postnatal group. I had my 8lb ds on his due date but have absolutely no idea where the past 5 weeks have gone.
He is perfect but unfortunately i have been in and out of hospital as I developed pre eclampsia.
Currently ebf on demand and I think it's going well but not very good at discreet feeding yet.
Still no exact pattern to feeding and sleeping but don't think this hot weather has helped.
I'll try to read back on the posts but ds is a very cuddly baby and doesn't like to be put down. He's to yet sleeping on his own, prefers to sleep on me so we are working on it.
Hope everyone is well

pinkapples · 22/07/2013 07:37

Nice to hear from you littlemiss glad things are good with your ds and hope you start to feel better soon Grin

No sleep for me last night after a week of 10-3 then 3-8am last night was awful so cue falling asleep in cereal and strong coffee... Royally p**d off with hubby as he slept through all of it although he could see I was tired and upset he's normally great but yesterday and today he's been a complete wanker!

AmIGoingMad · 22/07/2013 07:54

Pinkbear I hope you feel better soon!

Aloha great that the camping trip was a success. Very impressive!

Sparkle thanks- maybe that's what it was. Will monitor situation!

Littlemiss- good to hear from you!

Pinkapples that sounds very much like my Friday night. I hope that today is a bit easier and that she sleeps better for you tonight.

DS didn't settle til gone 11 last night so couldn't sleep even tho DS had actually settled in her Moses basket for a change! Not too bad a night but this whole adjusting bk to little sleep is not as easy as I expected it to be!

arlandria666 · 22/07/2013 08:06

oh dear pink....nothing worse than being sleeo deprived and mad DH....stay away from the knife drawer Grin

Elliott has his 8 week jabs today is he going to scream? he is my first not sure what to expect

ella0 · 22/07/2013 09:36

Definitely see your GP, pinkbear. I had mastitis a few weeks ago and the doctor told me to use self management techniques to clear it instead of giving me antibiotics; it has now developed into an abscess which is horrendous and I wouldn't wish that on anyone Sad. Hope you feel better soon.

AmI, I had a c-section and I had hardly any bleeding afterwards - I think the surgeon had a good clear out while she was in there! I had a tiny bit for a couple of days and more or less nothing after that (I didnt need the maternity pads I'd stocked up on!). I didn't have any clots or signs of a plug at all.

curlyclaz13 · 22/07/2013 10:16

pink I haven't had it but have been warned to get checked at any signs so probably worth seeing the gp.
I think I am going to have to see the doctor myself as things are not right down below. I think I have a prolapse as there is a lump and it's just not right.Blush

in less tmi news we went to bbq yesterday which was nice but Oscar fed nearly the whole time so I was sat pretty much on my own apart from friends mil who came to chat to me while feeding him which felt odd but was actually nice thing for her to do and she recommend a nursery.

RueDeWakening · 22/07/2013 10:54

Hello all Smile I'm still here, mostly just reading though I've got lots to catch up on! Turns out life with 3 is hectic, thankfully it's the school holidays now so don't have to be out of the house at all so early!

Pink I've had mastitis and had a phone consult with the doctor who prescribed anti-bs for me to collect, they worked like a charm. I was getting hour long attacks of the shivers and felt really rough and flu-ey.

M had his 8 week vaccinations on Thursday, 2 injections and an oral syringe, poor lamb. He did scream a bit but settled pretty quickly thank goodness! Back in 4 weeks for the next lot.

pinkapples · 22/07/2013 11:42

Oh no to those feeling crap although I'm joining that camp as I'm also not right down below Sad stitches have all gone but 1 and it is so painful if I sit funny or do to much it is sore have my six week check next week so they will hopefully recommend something

Babybeann · 22/07/2013 12:28

Im also very late in joining this thread and have alot of catching up to do.

DD is now 3 weeks and 1 day :) and everything goimg okay-ish willow pretty much sleeps most of the day in her swing (the best money ive ever spent!!) Anyone else have one? Nights are hit and miss in this house hold a good night is afeesd at 11 then one at 3.30 and then 7 so cant really moan at that.

Hope everyone is doing well and getting some rest.

and on the subject of down below I also dont feel quite right must get it checked at 6 week check up.

We are bottle feeding and poor willow has thrush in her mouth so has to have drops 4 times a day.
anyone eles having problems with thrush in the mouth?

learnermummy · 22/07/2013 14:43

What swing do you have babybeann ? Sounds amazing!

curlyclaz13 · 22/07/2013 15:58

oscar has been asleep for 30 minutes, he hardly slept last night and has not slept yet today. might attempt to express but that usually makes him wake up and want a feed, this motherhood malarkey is bloody hard sometimes.

rrreow · 22/07/2013 16:04

Sarah We have a massive pram (iCandy Peach), we haven't even used it yet really (apart from with the car seat), because it's so heavy! It is a dream to push though, but even just navigating the pavement puts me off.

I've been using my sling a lot, although I do feel like the Kari-me is a bit too stretchy now that Z is getting heavier. Going to a sling library next week to try out some others! Really excited about this.

I also agree about the lie-flat carrycot thing. With DS1 he was out of it at about 4 months because he just got frustrated lying flat all the time. He really wanted to look around.

Z has been sleeping really close to me during these warm days. Could it be that it still applies that your body regulates its temperature to warm them up/cool them down according to their needs when you're doing skin-to-skin, even a few weeks after the birth? I've not been too uncomfortable actually. I sleep in pants and a sleep bra and have Z right up against me. We do have a fan going all night, I don't think I could bear it without.

Breastfeeding is exhausting, especially in this weather. In the evening I can feel fine, not too tired, but then Z will have a long feed and when he's done I'm completely exhausted. I do love it though and don't particularly want to bottle feed (for me breastfeeding is the ultimate lazy option!), but sometimes I just need to have a moan about it.

Anyone who is still breastfeeding when their DC has their jabs: breastfeed either during or just after they get the injection. It really helps calm them and works as a natural painkiller/comforter. I fed Z while he was getting his BCG jab and he hardly cried at all.

learner we have a Mamas & Papas Starlite Swing I think. It's a bit hit & miss. Sometimes it works wonders and sometimes he prefers to just be on the floor. We got ours second hand though so I'd still say it was worth it. You can also get those vibrating seats. I think it depends on the baby which they prefer!

Babybeann · 22/07/2013 16:25

Its a graco one. I got it from babies r us. Its amazing. Both my ds an dd have loved it. Its has music settings. Its the best thing for naps as I never have to do the whole rocking/ swaying thing as it does it for you. 2 mins of being in the swing a I have a sleeping baby.

Sunbeam18 · 22/07/2013 17:45

AmI, i had a few small clots early on, and was advised that some of the placenta may not have been fully delivered and so to keep an eye on it. If you get clots larger than a 50p piece then you should get checked quickly. I had vaginal birth though so not sure what situation is with c-section. I just had a little bit of blood today after about a week of nothing; not sure if thats anything to worry about?
How many poos are your little ones doing per day at around one month? We're getting at least six a day, and were surprised at our nct reunion when the other parents said their babies only did one or maybe two. Have we broken him??!

Sarah2506 · 22/07/2013 17:47

rrreow is that the sling library in somerstown? I'm heading there as well:-)

ella0 · 22/07/2013 18:41

We've had a lot of use out of our pram so far. Babies are only supposed to be in the car seat for a limited amount of time so we need the carrycot for longer trips out. We've got the icandy strawberry and I love it. It's easy to steer and compact, so it's easy to get around (and I love how it looks!). We will use the carrycot as a cot when visiting family as it is suitable for overnight sleeping, and as it is longer than the moses basket we have we'll also use it for overnight sleeping when she's outgrown that. Apparently the pushchair seat is only suitable from 6 months.

AmIGoingMad · 22/07/2013 19:50

This heat is braking me!!! Actually hoping for the storms and rain they've forecast for tomrw to get rid of the sticky humid weather!!!!

One or two poos per day here at the moment but that's at nearly 3 weeks so it might be different.

In the daytime I've succumbed to dd sleeping in bouncing chair today. She settles so much better in there than in Moses basket.

We have the icandy apple and do use the carrycot for longer walks and for more shade in this weather. We haven't used it that much yet though as I'm still recovering from c section and can't get it down our steps without DH yet.
I'm pretty sure DS was in the seat before 6 months though as he was very long and big for age generally so wasn't comfy in it.

No more clots here today thank goodness- will monitor though!

I hope that those feeling I'll feel better soon!

Looking forward to some royal news too!

Olimoss · 22/07/2013 19:56

Hello all - been catching up on your news after too many days away from the thread...Christ knows where the time goes! Glad to hear am not alone on most things - all been covered here. Brilliant!

Can't believe Joe is 8 weeks on Wednesday, has his first round of immunisations tomorrow. Also managed to book flights home to Australia the day he will have his 16-week jabs so for goodness sake do not get on an Emirates flight on 24-09 - we may well be nightmare passengers!

Loving the heat, loving having J in nothing but a nappy, not loving heat rash or J's refusal to blow out his sleeping/feeding times beyond 3.5hrs at best. Was hoping he'd log some longer sleep times by now but no way chum.

Sarah a we have the iCandy Strawberry buggy. I love it, is aces, but fining we use the bassinet mostly for J's daytime naps and when we go out he's pretty much alleys in the Maxicosi. V v tempted to get out the seat from the loft and try him out in it early.

Speaking of similar early things, anyone yet having bebe in the cot? We will be starting J in there imminently with daytime naps, he's just not settling well enough in bassinet/v-pillow/Moses basket in daytime anymore, though still behaves pretty well in Moses basket at night.

OP posts:
pinkapples · 22/07/2013 20:13

Theiah has one a day and is now 5 weeks 4 days Grin

Also had more bleeding fresh red today after a week and a half of nothing (when I say nothing I mean the littlest pink watery discharge) so hoping that's nothing to worry about but I have my 6 week check next Wednesday so will wait for that as I went to the doctor with bleeding before and said if I was soaking a pad an hour or large clots then it was serious if I wasn't its not and should pass but will mention it next week... Stitches are really sore today too think ill be having a lazy week as I may be overdoing it

Hawkmoth · 22/07/2013 20:17

At least half a dozen dirty nappies a day here. It's all part of the fun.

pinkbear82 · 22/07/2013 20:19

Sunbeam I think we might have a broken baby too, she can poo for England! I don't think there's many times I change a nappy and there isn't poo.

Pleased to say I'm feeling much better, guess it might have been a 24 hour thing, last night I was ready to give up I felt so bad, so pleased much better.

We have a cosatto pram, its lovely and light and although I'm pretty sure dd will out grow the carry cot part of it soon, she settles well in it and we get good use out of it. Didn't get the car seat to use with it tho, I'm a bit funny with car seats - ours is just for the car. But I have at times been tempted by having been able to use it on the buggy frame.

MrsBri · 22/07/2013 20:54

Hi all :-)

I hope you're all ok. I'm glad you're feeling better pink and that you've had no further clots, AmI.

Hopefully everyone else is feeling ok now too...not long til this unbearable heat buggers off now.

With regards to poo, when I was BF it was every nappy, give or take. Now I'm FF it's one or two EPIC poos per day.

I've stopped bleeding now, I just have watery brown now and not much of that. Though hearing that yours came back (pinkapples, was it, I'm on my phone and can't check?) doesn't fill me with hope.

Oli, you'll be fantastic passengers, I'm sure! Hopefully Joe will take the jabs in his stride. :-)

We have a Silver Cross Linear Freeway and Amy tends to go straight to sleep in it, so no boredom there! I'm not sure when it is meant to be converted to the buggy, but I'm not sure it will be long enough to last for 6 months as she is tall.

Our next stage car seat arrived today. We got John Lewis to price match Mothercare on a Britax one which will last til she no longer needs a seat, so that's sorted!

And it's very exciting that Kate has now given birth. I've been looking forward to this for ages!

Sarah2506 · 22/07/2013 21:24

I think that very few babies last until six months in the carry cot. Polly certainly won't. I think it's mainly about avoiding them slumping so once they can properly sit up they are ok out the carrycot. I try and avoid putting her in the car seat too much as when she gets out she is mega hot. I guess because she can't move around.

I bet Kate isn't on an overheated postnatal ward sitting on a sheet covered in blood right now. But then wouldn't you have hated to have to pull your shit together and be photographed the next day in full hair and make up? When actually you just want to scrape your hair back and kick back in a maxi dress? I don't envy her that. But then she's not sat there with a calculator working out quite how they will pay for nursery....

Mutley77 · 22/07/2013 21:50

We have the mountain buggy swift and Carry cot def won't last six months. However the seat does lie flat so will probably swap over about 3-4 months. Love the pram though, is light and compact and v easy to push.

Dd is now in her cot at night in our room as didn't settle well in m basket. Settling still variable but not going to switch back as moving furniture around is a pita!

Just finished a night feed. She is waking for food every 3 hours but thank god tonight seems to be settled in between which hasn't been the case for a few nights. I can cope with night feeds if not up all night in between.

Six week check for Dd tomorrow and have had mine already.

Pleased to hear about Kates baby, wonder if I should suggest a street party (we are in Australia!)
