Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'm impressed with all these predictable babies. Mine is only predictable at night - the daytime is anyones guess. We were getting into a bit of a routine in the daytime when the heatwave struck and unfortunately it really hit her. We clearly have a scottish cold blooded baby. Yesterday was much cooler for us with a refreshing breeze which meant she slept in the daytime for the first time in a week.

Our newest problem is she hasnt poo'd in over 48hours. Lots of sneaky farts making us think its about to happen and shes clearly uncomfortable so hopefully it will fix itself soon.

pinkbear82 · 16/07/2013 08:03

I didn't have any checks done at my 6 wk appt - dr just asked if I was feeling ok. Violet has put weight on nicely despite being so poorly so pleased with that.

After having violet I was bleeding for about a week and then it stopped. Late last night I started bleeding again. I'm inclined to think its my periods returning as the last few days all I've wanted is sweet things and I wasn't the most rational person over the weekend. Does that sound right?

I'm just sat here expressing some milk for DP to give, I'm popping out for an hour this morning and with the heat dd has been a boob monster so figure he'll certainly need something!

We have a night time routine more than a day time one too. I've been getting up about 6.30 as I can have a shower while DP is here and not have to worry if dd cries. And then we have a slow start and see where the day takes us.

Feeling much cooler today, which will be nice, don't want the sun to go but a little more breeze would be nice.

learnermummy · 16/07/2013 12:14

Anna still hating the pram here. It's ok if she's asleep before I put her in but if she's awake it will end in screams Hmm. I suppose I should be thankful that she's no problem at all at night - just wakes to feed and then put her straight back down without even winding. I'll just have to put up with having her sleep on me in the day time!

Definitely no DTD here. Far too tired and boobs too full! Any libido disappeared a good while ago! We have an 8 week check here, with GP and then he gives first jabs at same time.

rrreow · 16/07/2013 12:54

8 week check here as well, so a little while to wait yet.

Definitely no DTD here either. After giving birth the first time I had some scar tissue from the stitches that made DTD painful. It had only just started to get more comfortable again, but this time I tore in exactly the same place Sad so am rather worried about it being painful again. It's a bit of an emotional barrier.

Z doesn't seem to have much of a pattern yet. The only thing I've noticed (through that feeding app) is that he tends to have a very long feed (30-45mins) sometime between 8-11pm. He's fairly happy to sleep anywhere (as long as we're in the same room), but only sleeps in stretches of 2 hours maximum. He also spends a lot of time awake!! And a lot of time pooping.

My bleeding looks to be stopping now. Down to watery and only really when I wipe, barely anything on the pad. I hate the pads, they're grim. :-(

Amy now weighs 10lb 1oz, and increase of almost 1lb in a week! She'll be huge soon! We're now discharged from the midwife. Phew!

Does anyone know if shops swap nappies without proof of purchase as we need to swap some size 1s for probably 3 or 4 as we have loads of 2s too?

Off to the GP for Amy's gunky eyes later on as the midwife thinks she may need antibiotics.

Hope everyone is surviving the heat.

curlyclaz13 · 16/07/2013 16:16

Bit of an expressing fail here, got 2oz earlier just got another oz went to put the teat / lid on and random dirt drifted into the milk. Not sure if 2oz will do much but will get OH to try it tonight and see what happens.

pinkapples · 16/07/2013 17:00

It's to hot!!!!

Baby is very sweaty (4 baths) and rash looks awful in the heat but she doesn't seem bothered lay in pram while I washed up hoovered and dusted do that was good

What's everyone doing about evening meals? Are your babies asleep or are you eating one handed? I always said I wasn't being a one handed mummy so if we're lucky (we never are) she sleeps or the alternative (and what happens nearly every day) is a screaming baby while we both eat at lightening speed Sad this is not wat I want for mmeatimes for 6 months

curlyclaz13 · 16/07/2013 17:12

pinkapples I swear he knows when we eat ! I can feed him right before dinner and he will still scream for a feed when I eat so I end up with him on the boob and me trying to eat. rice salad is not easy to eat one handed poor Oscar ended up wearing a lot of it.Grin cooking is an issue too as he wants feeding then too hence expressing.

rrreow · 16/07/2013 17:29

Indeed, it is too hot! I came over all faint about three times while feeding Z earlier. Despite drinking lots of water.

We have an indoor cat and box sash windows, so can't open the windows very far. Besides there is no breeze so probably wouldn't make much of a difference even if we could.

Z is on the boob for very short feeds a lot because he's sweating so much, but unfortunately he keeps throwing it up, so then he gets thirsty again etc etc He doesn't seem too bothered by the heat. He hasn't smiled at us yet, but was doing lots of smiling when I was standing with him in front of the fan earlier!

He'll be 6 weeks on Friday and I swear he's as big as a 3 month old! Definitely grown out of his 0-3 vests. When he lies in his carrycot or swing chair he pretty much fills them up. DH is a big guy but I'm rather petite (half Asian) so I guess he could've gone either way!

rrreow · 16/07/2013 17:30

Oh yes, he has 'dinner radar' as well. Hmm

MrsBri · 16/07/2013 18:25

Amy has the same dinner radar. I think I've eaten fewer than 5 dinners at the table with both hands since I got home!

learnermummy · 16/07/2013 18:26

We've been quite lucky this time as Anna usually likes to sleep between about 7:30 and 11 in the evening so haven't had too many one handed dinners. Of course she'll be difficult tonight now I've said that!

curlyclaz13 · 16/07/2013 22:15

Well Oscar had his first bottle of ebm earlier and has gone back on the boob since. I was quite worried he wouldn't so am very relieved. I think OH was really pleased to be able to feed him.

AmIGoingMad · 17/07/2013 03:29

Elodie is also the size of a 3 month old- despite actually being a fortnight old today! She was nearly 9lb born though.

She's so warm bless her. Doesn't help that, particularly in the evenings, she prefers to sleep on us so gets our body heat too!

How did Amy get on at the docs mrsbri? Think we'll have to go today as right eye is still very gunky.

With food it depends when we manage to get ourselves organised. If we eat early with DS it works well as little miss is usually still in her sleepy day phase. If we have to wait til later then we end up eating in shifts. Haven't done much cooking yet thanks to the masses of batch cooking a few weeks ago- mostly just been reheating thank goodness. DH birthday this wkend though and am hoping to cook nice meal- fingers crossed! Maybe we're best off having it at lunchtime!

Well 2 weeks post section here today. I've been doing really well and have hardly felt any pain. But today I've really felt it. Is this normal? I'm still being really sensible so don't think I've overdone things.

pinkapples · 17/07/2013 03:30

Is very proud from her 8.30 bottle little baby Theiah is just starting to stir! Woohoo! Feed and back to bed me thinks Grin

MrsBri · 17/07/2013 06:37

AmI, we were given eye drops for her. She's had two applications so far and it's already working, which is great :-)

And I sometimes feel a twinge from the CS too, seemingly without reason. I think it's probably normal.

Mutley77 · 17/07/2013 07:40

DD is generally asleep when we eat dinner and is more and more sleepy in the 7-11 period before bed. Possibly not long until she goes up into her cot at 7 now - seems to have gone so fast :(

She is now in her proper cot and although she looks tiny seems to be more comfortable than in her moses basket - last night she was definitely less unsettled. Fingers crossed it wasn't just a one off.... Still waking for feeds 2.5 - 3 hourly during night though.

AmI - re C/S that sounds totally normal to me. I still feel pain intermittently from my wound and DD is now just over 5 weeks. Gp said it was normal.

pinkapples - it is really likely your DD will be more settled in the evening long before 6 months - I think that's the most apparent thing with DC3 that although some of the "phases" seem dreadful I can remember from my older 2 that they generally are very short lived.

massagegirl · 17/07/2013 07:56

Baby T is really unsettled between 6 and 9 ish just wants constant boob so dinner time is always a tag team or one handed! Last night she slept 11-4 normally she wouldn't go back in her bed nest and would sleep on me but last night she managed 5-7.30 back on her own, hooray!! I am aware this probably won't happen again but makes up for evening grumpiness!

pinkbear82 · 17/07/2013 10:01

Violet can be very good at meal times, she will happily be in her Moses basket bouncy chair and have a play if she isn't asleep. There are a few occasions where she's feeding so one handed skills come into play, but generally she is very good.

Ami hope you are feeling better today.

Mrsbri don't envy you having to give eye drops.... May she continue to be so relaxed over it!

On a rather random note, DP was going thru music the other day and it seems v is a phil Collins fan.... Any grizzling, pop him on and she settles right away..... I don't know if I should be over the moon or worried over taste in music.

Steffanoid · 17/07/2013 12:17

quick question, what are you guys doing wrt suncream? the bottle of nivea baby we've bought says dont put it on under 3 months but with Sun this strong I dont want to risk even the possibility of sunburn

curlyclaz13 · 17/07/2013 12:28

I haven't got any suncream I just make sure the hood of the pram and parasol cover him. Not sure this is the best thing though.

rrreow · 17/07/2013 12:56

I hadn't thought to look at the label on the suncream. I use either Nivea SPF30 or Boots/Superdrug SPF30 own brand for sensitive skin (the ones that don't have any perfume added). When Z is in the sling his face, head, hands & feet will be intermittently in the sun when walking, so I always make sure those bits have suntan lotion on them.

I need to buy him a sunhat but not sure where to get one. I'm going to a shopping centre on Friday, anyone know whether places like John Lewis/M&S/Primark do them?

rrreow · 17/07/2013 12:58

Curly, you can burn in the shade, but you'd have to be outside for quite a long time for that to happen. For just short trips in the pram I'm sure what you're doing is fine.

pinkbear82 · 17/07/2013 13:54

We got v's sun hat in bots, so sure you'll be fine with any of those shops.

Can't say I looked at the label on the sunscreen I brought either, it's a kids factor 50 and haven't had any adverse affects. Still use the hood of pram and sun umbrella when out too.

So hard in this heat to know what's best
