Including our friends from late May & early July!

Thought time for a postnatal thread.

So. I'm craving a nightly glass of wine already, week
5 of motherhood. Anyone else?!

Mutley77 · 15/07/2013 15:44

sunny I've got that dark line and black belly button too. I seem to remember having it at this stage with my previous kids and can't remember when it went, but it did - if that reassures you at all!

DD is now 5 weeks - I am really hoping for some improvement at night from 6 weeks!!!!! She feeds about every 2.5-3 hours but is pretty unsettled in between - I am really anxious about co-sleeping so haven't really done it although do sit up for long periods with her asleep on me, which is pretty exhausting.

pinkapples · 15/07/2013 16:30

Theiah doesn't mind her pram either luckily and sleeps in there during the day she's doing ok went to the doctors this morning and her rash is a mix of dry skin aggravated by the heat and doctor says my lady bits may heal on their own but ask to be checked at 6 week check (31st July) and it mAy need a stitch

pinkbear82 · 15/07/2013 17:08

Really unsettled little lady today! She screamed during her 6 wk check...the dr made the 'nothing wrong with her lungs' quip. She'll be sound asleep and then wake up crying and not settle for ages.

Any one else giving cooled boiled water? I was told bf babies don't need it, but wondering if with this heat it might help?

Olimoss · 15/07/2013 17:40

Pink - we are using but Joe is combi fed breast & formula, not sure if that changes things...

OP posts:
pinkapples · 15/07/2013 17:57

We're formula fed and not using boiled water but both my grandparents and my mum has mentioned it numerous times in this heat

DontmindifIdo · 15/07/2013 18:07

Sunny - I was told that line was bruising from your stomach muscles being destroyed forever separating. Actually on that, is anyone else freaking out at being able to press in the middle of their tummy and there being nothing there??? (god I hope they go together again soon!)

I've tried giving DD cooled boiled water as per everyone of the 70's/80's parents generation's obsession, but she's having none of it. I figure I'm breast feeding in the afternoons and letting her feed on demand so she'll be getting lots of extra fluids that way (and trying ot remember to drink even more myself)

I managed a slight return to my old self, got my hair dyed this afternoon, all the ladies in the hairdressers were cooing over her like mad, and one other customer told us that she'd just found out she was going to be a granny. Twas lovely.

Now, we hit 6 weeks tomorrow, has anyone who's had a c section braved waxing yet?

Steffanoid · 15/07/2013 19:16

dontmind, I.never have and never will brave waxing, especially not there

Ethan is good in his pram, falls fast asleep in it.

not a lot to report here, im avoiding going anywhere in this heat, other than my living room which is technically our coolest room, currently at 23c dps brother, girlfriend and 9 month old baby are staying tonight, which should be nice, although I find them so much more than difficult to talk to, I try and ask open, leading questions and get a one word answer, tomorrow could have dragged if I didn't have the fabulous idea of us going to the sea life centre, very impressed of myself for thinking of that one Smile

hope you're all ok ladies

pinkapples · 15/07/2013 19:37

It's a no go on the waxing here have thought about it on numerous occasions but never done it

In other news baby Theiah's christening is all booked for 18th August Grinnamely because we stand a chance of it being sunny and dh's grandparents are very ill and fragile

SunnyL · 15/07/2013 19:45

Pink we've booked the weekend after for Lily's christening! DHs mother found his old christening gown which looks surprisingly modern and i've given a good clean and iron so is looking brand new.

Yes to belly having zero muscles. Surprisingly i'm still losing weight though despite a horrifically bad diet. Im going back on weight watchers when bubs is 6 weeks so hopefully that should continue.

Oh and glad to hear the minging black belly button will go soon!

Sunbeam18 · 15/07/2013 20:46

Good to hear all the baby sleeping experiences - we've been v unsettled and fractious in the heat. What are you all doing with regards to a bedtime/bedtime routine? At the moment (3 weeks old) Keir sleeps loads in the late afternoon/evening - he can sleep 5-6 hours on the trot. We have him downstairs with us either sleeping on me or on his baby beanbag seat. We just take him up to bed when we go (about 11/11.30) and I feed him, change him and after he has fallen asleep on me (he wont go to sleep himself in his basket) I move him into his basket. We are getting woken every 2-3 hours for feeding and I then have to get him to sleep on me before putting him back in the basket. I usually keep him in the bed after the 6amish feed and we co-sleep. We've been staying in bed v late in the morning to try to catch up on some sleep. Is this a hellishly bad routine to have got into, and is anyone enforcing a routine at this early stage?
X

Sunbeam18 · 15/07/2013 20:48

Also, I couldn't cope with bikini wax for a while! Maybe a general tidy up would be ok but nothing extreme or anywhere near the stitches...
Dare I ask if anyone has 'resumed relations' yet??!

MrsBri · 15/07/2013 21:09

Hello people!

Hope you're all well.

Amy has been a bit constipated this week, but we are adding a tiny bit more water to her formula now and today she's been a poo machine! Good it's worked as she's clearly been uncomfortable.

She tends to have her longest sleep after the feed closest to 7/8pm of 4-5 hours. At night we get 2.5-4.5 hours with no pattern as to why!

We need to book Amy's christening soon. It's difficult as DH is Catholic, I'm Baptist and my family is 170 miles away and my mum's anxiety issues mean she can't travel to us.

If we did it here I'd go C of E as a middle ground. But if we go to my home it'd be Baptist and the minister who married us would do it. Hmmm. Difficult one.

As for waxing? No, ta!

Relations? We will get to it again after my 6 week check. There's risk of infection before then, apparently. We need to get yucky condoms too before then as I don't want to go on hormonal contraception in between babies and I want to try again from next June.

And my lack of stomach muscle is grim. And why I still look sodding pregnant. Need to start the post natal exercises to assist.

Sorry if I missed anything.

Sarah2506 · 15/07/2013 21:13

sunbeam that sounds a bit like he has confused night and day? I'm no expert though! I would probably wake him up from his daytime nap after a couple of hours max? Might help?

I realised today that I don't think polly has ever actually had a daytime nap, other than in her carrycot when being pushed around. We are rarely in to allow for a nap I guess but it's a bit odd that she never daytime sleeps.

Anyway, 'relations' or DTD as mumsnet would say. No. And I had a section so don't really have an excuse! I was thinking about it but then I thought that actually I cannot think of any point in the week that I would be happy to give up sleep in favour of sex. And it's too weird with her sleeping there next to us!

Anyone else at it?

Sarah2506 · 15/07/2013 21:21

Btw anyone in the non religious camp thinking of having a naming day? Seems like a nice thing to do. Unfortunately it will end up being a massive drama as DHs immediate family totals about 20 people, so add in my lot plus friends and its our wedding all over again...

curlyclaz13 · 15/07/2013 21:21

Oscar's sleep is all over the shop at the moment, today he only slept for about an hour from 6am until 4.30 then slept for 1 1/2 hours. usually he sleeps from about 11 until 2 or from lunchtime for a few hours then awake and feeding until about 9 sleep again then feed when we go to bed. wakes a couple of times over night usually for an hour or so.

pinkbear82 · 15/07/2013 21:30

How are you keeping cool while bf?! I get so hot while feeding I can't keep cool and I must over heat dd too. Confused

MrsBri · 15/07/2013 21:32

Sarah, we have to avoid sex after a section to allow healing to take place. I'm being very careful what I do still. I can feel it pulling inside on the left sometimes. Yuck :-/

And forgot to say that Amy loves her pram and just goes sleep as I push her round. It's almost magic!

Hoping to get discharged by the midwives tomorrow as I'm sure we are now above birth weight :-) The health visitor was happy with her progress last week and was happy not to weigh her. We have a very sensible health visitor. She's very realistic. I'm glad as you hear some horror stories!

curlyclaz13 · 15/07/2013 21:38

we have a tall fan on in the living room to keep cool when feeding best thing I have bought yet. I think I would have gone mad otherwise ! o have made OH bring it upstairs on really hot and humid nighs.

Sarah2506 · 15/07/2013 21:46

mrs bri I've had the six week check - early- and been told I'm good to go. I haven't mentioned this to DH. I don't have any reminders of the section at all now. A minor niggle last week when juggling polly in her carry cot, changing bag an three bags of shopping up three flights of stairs, but that was just a bit crazy.

MrsBri · 15/07/2013 21:56

Ha ha, Sarah, you'll just have to bite the bullet then :-)

DH has said he's going to pounce on me around the house so we don't do it with Amy looking on from the bed nest. That'd be very wrong indeed.

pinkapples · 15/07/2013 22:10

Dh and I planned to wait till the 6 week check as well but it is killing us both! And now that I may need another stitch might just put a dampener on things Hmm

SunnyL · 15/07/2013 22:10

Ahem we have resumed relations. Finding that window of opportunity was the biggest challenge. I only had 1 stitch so don't have the same kind of worries as some of you. My thinking was pretty much get it over with so it doesn't become a big thing mentally. Not exactly the most romantic proposition!

AmIGoingMad · 15/07/2013 22:46

Interesting to read from so many so close to/already had 6 wk check when we're still only at 12 days! For the 6 wk check up for you, do they send for you or do you make an appt with your gp? Last time I was told to make one with gp, he said to make it with practice nurse and she said ' oo we don't really do that'.

Needless to say- no relations being had here!

HV came today and said that Elodie looks like a 3 month old! It's true!

I'm on antibiotics after visit to out of hours docs last night. Delightful infected bites and cellulitis. Just what I need when my body should be focussing on recovery from section!Hmm

On the pram front. It seems to be a hit here so far as she has slept the whole time she's been in it on the 4 occasions she has. Otherwise she much prefers sleeping on us to settling in Moses basket- especially in the nights!

People have bought us such lovely outfits but the heat means that little miss is living in a nappy only, and maybe a sleeveless vest when we leave the house. The fan we bought for our bedroom has been a best buy here too!

We haven't given boiled water as yet but are ff more frequently last few days.

AlohaMama · 16/07/2013 02:01

Sorry to hear about the cellulitis AmI, I was wondering how you'd got on. Hope it clears up soon.

As for DTD, I had my checkup (4 wk here) and was told I was fine. But I forgot to get prescription for contraception. And I don't want to take any risks as don't fancy a 10 month age gap (or necessarily a 3rd dc for that matter). At least that is my excuse. DH will have to wait till I get round to ordering the pill. And as Sarah said, at the moment sleep wins every time!

Sunbeam, I don't have any routine here, I'm not worrying about establishing one till a good few weeks time, in fact probably wait till we get to the UK as time zone will muck things up anyway. But I've been logging feeds and sleep and she seems to have a kind of pattern - feed fairly frequently for a few hours in the morning, long morning nap, feed around lunchtime, long (~4 hr) afternoon nap, feed around dinner time, takes a little bit longer to get her to sleep then, so sometimes another feed 7 or 8pm, then she'll have her longest sleep 5-6 hours, then feed at 1/2am, then after that probably 2 hrs later, ready for morning again. Rather than doing a strict 3h4/4hr schedule I'll probably try to develop a routine based around this pattern, and push feeds a little earlier or later to have them fit in better with our ds' routine. I suspect her pattern is affected by ds - she has her long sleep in the afternoon when he has his nap so the house is quiet and we are home. She sleeps usually all morning, but we are normally out doing stuff with ds and she is in the carrier. When we come home for lunch, the activity wakes her up. etc.

No waxing for me - I was having laser hair removal and had to stop due to being pregnant, hopefully will start doing that again at some point.

No christenings here - we in fact are religious and were both baptised as children but now believe more strongly in adult baptism, so we might get baptised ourselves, but not our kids! Might have considered a dedication service or something like that if we'd been living near family. I guess we could still do that when we get home.

pinkapples · 16/07/2013 03:11

Oh no aml hope it doesn't stick around to long and you can focus on recovery

Well done for dtd I think your right bout getting it over with so it doesn't get blown into something to stress about

We have a sort of routine going at the moment although I'm not delusioned and know she's still tiny (5 weeks on Thursday) when she wakes from evening sleep (6/7pm) we get her up give her a bath and change of baby grow then give her a feed then she sleeps until 9.30/10 ish (although sometimes this is later if she wakes earlier and is alert as hubby works and likes to play with her while shes in a happy mood) she sleeps in the carrycot downstairs untill she wakes up from that sleep then I take her into our room upstairs and change her nappy feed her and then put her in the Moses basket where she stays until 3pm Grin then up feed and she wakes up anywhere between 6-8am

Days are still unsettled and mainly based on what we have planned and at the moment the heat
