DS sits In his highchair in the kitchen while I cook (and I throw him scraps every now and then). Is that possible with DS spotty ?

DS only had 1 proper nap today as he had a cat nap while I ran this morning and then a real nap between 11-12.45 but after his lunch etc it was 2pm so he couldn't go down for another nap as we had to get the big kids. So he's really grumpy and tired now. And DH is out so I'm doing bedtime alone (which is fine other than story time with a very grumpy baby while I read 2 chapters of a long book!)

SpottyTeacakes · 23/07/2013 18:34

He wasn't having any of it IsThat! Not sure what was up really... Thankfully our bedroom seems cooler tonight

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/07/2013 18:40

I do similar to Ispy, lunch is finger foods so i do food prep while he eats in his highchair. If I need to cook tea I throw fruit sticks at him after his main course and he entertains himself.

J has just started proper napping this week. He has 1-2h around 10 and 1-2 around 2. I feel like I have loads of spare time. I lay next to him in my bed and he falls asleep within 10 mins as long as I've timed it right for when he's tired.

Jamie is a food demon! He's making up for 6 months of force feeding him milk which he's always hated. Today he's done a full weetabix with whole milk, a boiled egg, broccoli, pepper and hot cross bun, cod and sweet potato, a yoghurt and 1/3 of a mango. He's been unfillable. He's still only little though. I forgot to take him to weigh in so I'll do it on Thursday instead.

IsThatTrue · 23/07/2013 19:55

DS is starting to eat more. Although today he missed breakfast thanks to awfully disturbed night. So had a cereal bar at 10.30. Some pasta with pesto, baby tomatoes, pepper, sweetcorn, ham and mozerella for lunch (he are a 5/6 bits of pasta and chewed a few other bits) and then had some bread (1/2 slice), a finger of cheese and a couple of bites of banana for dinner. He still feeds 8 times a day (not including feeds between 7pm and 5.30am)

WLmum · 23/07/2013 19:57

Mil is generally very sweet and does help us out a lot - big 2 adore her. Fil can be a bit odd and mil tends to run after him quite a bit. That said he has helped us with stuff before but it's always a bit awkward. With mil actually I think it's rather sad - I think she's lost a lot of confidence since retiring and I do worry about how she'd cope if anything happened to fil.

mama I'm trying to be chilled about the fact that T often doesn't eat much and def prefers sweet fruit purée with rice or yoghurt to savoury (except humous which she couldn't get enough of today) as she's still only just 7 months, has no teeth and its a million degrees.
Friends only lasted a year but she's an Aussie. They met in oz but had been living here for about 2.5 years. Went back to oZ but his earning capacity is much greater here and I think it was a case of not realising what you've got til its gone. Sad for them it didn't work out but pleased for us! They've got a ds about 3 weeks younger than T so extra nice.

WLmum · 23/07/2013 19:58

Wow isthat that's a lot of feeding!

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2013 20:12

R had 1 1/2 weetabix with fruit for breakfast, tuna pasta plus a slice of sausage, 2 cucumber chunks and 2 strips of pita for lunch plus an organix animal biscuit, three baby rice cakes for afternoon snack (unusual, he's normally happy with milk) then an Ella's pouch for tea as i made spicy pasta and used too much chilli i had weetabix and wine!

He feeds 4-5 times a day from me, usually 5-10 minutes unless he's tanking up for a big nap. Twice over night for 10-15 minutes.

Am hoping that's normal for 8 months Confused

SpottyTeacakes · 23/07/2013 20:16

Sounds similar to ds pidj minus the night feeds also ds has a bottle after bath since the mastitis caused boob refusal before bed. He has Ella's no 3 pouches now too, when dp serves up dinner he always forgets poor ds Hmm

halestone · 23/07/2013 20:45

Wow H is well behind with her eating then. Breakfast is either 1/3 of a weetabix but she only has 4-5 mouthfuls, or toast and she doesn't eat anywhere close to a 1/4 of that.

Often she refuses dinner but will munch on cucumber or a carrot.

And tea is mostly what we're eating but if it isn't suitable she has a 1/3 of a jar which shes only been finishing for the last couple of days. Then i'll offer her an afters which is hit and miss whether she takes it it not.

She is massive though 25.1lbs but the HV won't believe she barely eats decided i'm not going to stress about her weight as she'll loss it when shes crawling

Hales O is similar. Today was yogurt and porridge (a few handfuls) and two slices of nectarine for breakfast, a potato wedge and some chewing onpepper and mangetout for lunch, and about 2 square inches of tuna omelette for supper. There must be some effect though as he feeds less in the day and night now, but he's almost 7 months so I wonder if he needs more..

PurplePidjin · 23/07/2013 21:39

I keep offering food until he shows me he's finished. I'm often to be seen proffering more rice cakes or frantically mashing a banana because I've underestimated! I also have a big stash of small plastic tubs for storing leftovers in :o

itsMYNutella · 23/07/2013 21:41

prunella how old is your little one? DS is just turning 6.5 months. He moves around a lot (he can roll rather fast and push and pull himself about to get at the DVDs the toys he wants) and people keep saying "once they're moving they'll sleep better" but I'm not much sure how much more he can do to wear himself out!Grin

WL it's FIL who is very odd he runs his family like he ran his business. He might send out a memo today that this is how things go but if you turn up next week expecting that to be right you're in for a shock. Mil runs around after him and does whatever makes him happy. They didn't eat pasta at home for over 30 years because he doesn't like itConfused turned out a year or two ago that he actually didn't like mil's pasta sauce.

Little man must be about to produce some teeth... But I wish they would get a bloomin move on. Could see some white spots on his gums the other day, although it wasn't his front teeth Blush and they seem to have calmed down again. I might open a book on which/ how many teeth arrive once they start coming. He chewed his finger till it was all pink at the weekend. And he enjoyed a slightly frozen teething toy today

Maryland2013 · 23/07/2013 21:54

We're similar over here... Breakfast is weetabix or porridge. Today he had fruit purée on it but then had to have banana too as was still hungry. Lunch was cauliflower cheese and a yoghurt, dinner was salmon and tomatoes and apple after.

He also has bits of what I'm eating and rice cakes and biscottis for snacks. If I don't give him snacks when we are eating he goes wild. He was loving rice cakes today and shouting for more!

I think top teeth are due any day, gums feel all funny and the chewing is 24/7.

MaMaPo · 23/07/2013 22:02

Wow, C eats barely anything compared to your babies! She reliably eats porridge with apple/pear puree, then half a banana with plan yoghurt for breakfast. She could happily then go on for the rest of the day with no solids. She will always eat a yoghurt but I don't want to give her just fruit yoghurts all day. She doesn't want to eat savoury food off a spoon, and finger foods get mushed and squashed and never once go near her mouth. If I offer it, by putting it to her mouth, most the time she'll refuse and if she does open up it comes straight back out.

She was doing much better a while ago, so I have to assume it's the heat. She's reduced bfs though - about 4-5 a day, with a really big one before bed.

She's a bouncing baby so she's not going to be suffering from malnutrition! I keep having to repeat to myself 'food is fun until they'e one'...

WLmum · 23/07/2013 22:40

That's where I'm at mama. I figure she'll eat it when she's ready and if its not before then my being back at work will push it a bit. Am planning on having a cup of formula for her mid morning and mid afternoon on days I'm working though. It'll sort itself out.

Not enjoying the wankers somewhere nearby playing covert loud music. Sometimes I really hate people!

2blessed · 23/07/2013 22:46

Today R had porridge and a banana for breakfast, 1 slice of toast for lunch and half a savoury Ella pouch for dinner and then a yogurt. Had chunks of watermelon through the day which he loved. That;s about usual for him. Still likes his bf though. Will probably have 2 through the night for about 10 minutes a time. He's a long baby, people rarely believe that he is 6.5 months.
Good to read what over babies are eating.

He's now crawling and tooth no.3 came through last week.

WLmum · 23/07/2013 22:53

That should say really loud music - covert loud music wouldn't work at all!

ISpyPlumPie · 23/07/2013 23:23

I had a screamy baby while trying to make tea too - chilli took a ridiculous amount of time. Usually, he's happy in his high chair watching me but today it just wouldn't do. In the end, the only way I could stop him crying was to sing a selection of the best anthems from the Kop (language sanitised where appropriate). DF will be very proud, but had best not mention it to SIL. The perils of living between Liverpool and Manchester - think they'll have to support Latics instead Grin.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 23/07/2013 23:40

It'd be a lot cheaper for the season ticket Ispy! DP is a Liverpool fan and his brother a united fan. Whoever loses the derby turns their phone off so they don't have to listen to the other crowing! Grin

halestone · 23/07/2013 23:40

Ahhh Ispy Teaching him to support the right team early GrinGrinGrin i'm a Liverpool Fan DP is a Man United fan. DP doesn't like me teaching H You'll never walk aloneWink

OP posts:
ISpyPlumPie · 23/07/2013 23:54

That's what I was thinking Willyou and seeing as they were both born in Wigan, they should support their local team. Not quite sure how to break it to DF who hasn't missed a home game at Anfield since 1970somthing including the day DM brought me home from hospital, can just see the AIBU.

Hales - you'll be pleased to know that N is now fully versed in "The famous Man United went to Rome to see the Pope" however he currently believes the chorus is "who on earth are Man United?" Grin.

ISpyPlumPie · 23/07/2013 23:58

Thing is, despite growing up in a house dominated by football I've not really followed it at all for years and would struggle to name the current Liverpool team Blush. They were just the songs that randomly popped into my head after I'd exhausted the usual Wheels on the Bus/Old McDonald repertoire. Worrying on one level, but also kind of useful as odds are at least one of my boys will be into sport on some level and I will have to learn to feign a bit of an interest. Unless it's cricket of course, in which case I'm handing all responsibility over to DH.

MaMaPo · 24/07/2013 04:11

Crazy baby playing loudly in her cot - go to sleep!!!

utopian99 · 24/07/2013 05:31

Dh is a united fan, with soft spots for pro cycling and the grand Prix, so a lot of sport gets watched in our house... [hmm[ he's recently got into the ashes though, which I am happier to watch too.

Which is the song about united going to see the pope? Don't know that one..

2blessed · 24/07/2013 06:09

Another sporty (to watch) household here too. Grateful for the football break though.

R has been up for an hour feeding and playing as it suits him in our bed. Trying to stop him waking up dp but its hard as my little man is so affectionate he just can't help kicking his dad in the back Confused

Hope dd tired herself of playing mama.
