Not overly long willyou - I think Calpol is supposed to kick in in 30-40 mins? Anyone else?

Hope he's ok.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2013 18:23

I'd give it an hour. Have you got Neurofen? It's not that high, I know it's worrying but it's not generally a fever until it's over 38.5 just a temperature. Dd has always suffered from viruses and we've had our fair share of readings over 39 so I'm just going by experience of what doctors have said etc

WillYouDoTheFandango · 18/07/2013 18:35

Gave it an hour and he seems much better. Temp's coming down, it was the fact that he was a bit spaced out that worried me. He's just helloing over and over now. Grin

MaMaPo · 18/07/2013 18:39

Hooray for drugs, Willyou!

Just feeding a very sleepy shouty baby to sleep, and then someone is going to deliver 28 nicely ironed shirts to me. There is no way any ironing is getting done in this weather.

Husband's work still insanely busy. Dinner alone again tonight.

Maryland2013 · 18/07/2013 19:15

Willyou when DS had a fever a few weeks back we found the neurofen to be most effective but he had a fever for a fair few days and we alternated nurofen and calpol every 3 hrs.

Mama we do same time between naps too-2-2.5 hours. I like it that he's predictable-helps avoid meltdowns!!

SpottyTeacakes · 18/07/2013 19:41

Ds is being a pickle. Trying to feed him to sleep lying down now. He's had 6oz of formula Hmm just keeps grinning at me though! It's so bloody hot in our room Sad

MaMaPo · 18/07/2013 20:37

Thanks Spotty and Maryland - I tried that this morning, put her down about 9.45 after 7.30 wake up and she cried and cried. Eventually I went out and met fiends for a picnic - she eventually fell asleep in pram for about 1h15 at 1.30pm. That's all she slept today. Pretty tired and cranky today but not too bad. Still, nowhere near enough sleep. Bet she won't sleep well tonight.

Maryland2013 · 18/07/2013 20:44

Mama I think it's the heat... It's so hard for them to sleep. DS normally goes to bed at 7ish but some nights this week it's been 9/9:30 as just too hot to sleep I think..
Took an hour to settle tonight too, aargh!

ISpyPlumPie · 18/07/2013 20:55

Glad J is better Willyou.

Maryland I'd second that about the heat. Mine are both taking far longer than usual to settle - only just managed it!

We have a serious case of separation anxiety over here. The boy will not be put down for a second unless I am in full view at all times. Even then it is hit and miss whether I can actually let go of him. He tried climbing up my leg before - quite tricky when the reason I've put him down is to have a wee! This too shall pass, this too shall pass......

ISpyPlumPie · 18/07/2013 20:57

Gaaa - someone has just driven past N's open window with Sweet Child of Mine blaring out at full volume. It's not 1988 you twat Angry. Amazingly it doesn't seem to have disturbed him.

MaMaPo · 18/07/2013 20:58

Interesting iSpy - one of my friends I saw today said her little boy is the same. He's 2 days older than C. I haven't noticed anything from her but it'll come soon enough I bet.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 18/07/2013 21:14

It will ISpy and for now sometimes they'll just have to cry. J's the same, he doesn't mind as long as someone else is with him but if I'm alone with him and even hide behind a towel on the washing line he screams!

J has just worked out how to get the lid off my sports bottle of water to drink it Smile He then emptied the full bottle over my bedclothes and mattress Angry Blankets are in the tumble drier and DP's flipped the mattress. Unfortunately there's so much water it's gone all the way through Hmm looks like I'm sleeping in a towel tonight.

Maryland2013 · 18/07/2013 21:24

At least you might be cool Willyou?!

WLmum · 18/07/2013 22:47

ispy our garden backs onto a main line to Waterloo and Ts room is at the back. Amazingly with the windows open the trains starting up again at 5.30 aren't waking her.

T doesn't really cry if I leave the room but she is super aware of where I am all the time and has started to lean towards me if someone is holding her.

DH settled T for about the second time ever tonight! Woo-hoo!

utopian99 · 19/07/2013 00:15

Woohoo WL!

I've just woken O up by coughing my lungs up (was trying to dash from the room but too late.) Sad

WillYouDoTheFandango · 19/07/2013 02:53

Yay WL! Here's to more DH settlings and more sleep for you.

No such luck Maryland as the sheets were roasting from the tumbler!

I'm currently going cross-eyed trying not to cough utopian. Hope O settles quickly for you.

J is asleep as long as he's on my chest. The second I try to transfer him he starts crawling round his cot wailing Hmm

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2013 07:39

Dd's got headlice Sad first time. She's got really thick hair too and cries if I so much as look at her with a hairbrush in my hand

ISpyPlumPie · 19/07/2013 09:16

Oh no Spotty. DS1 had his first lot last month. You can get Headrin for free on the minor ailments scheme, and that got rid of the little blighters quickly. I did have the advantage of dealing with short, fine hair though. Hope they're gone soon.

WLmum · 19/07/2013 10:13

spotty have you tried a tangle teaser hairbrush? They are truly amazing - we used to have tears everyday when brushing dd2s long hair - not anymore! Got our from boots.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2013 10:30

She doesn't even have many knots WL she's just a wuss Wink I've got the hedrin once and a nitty gritty cost me over £30! But I need to treat us before sports day at 1:30. Must look into the minor ailments scheme. We've both got long hair and lots of it Hmm

WillYouDoTheFandango · 19/07/2013 13:09

Hope you get rid of the little buggers Spotty.

My boy is miserable today, his teeth I think. He has sobbed in the paddling pool, on his playmat, while trying to drink a bottle, in his high chair eating his dinner and now on my bed in the dark with a fan on us. He had started to spit out calpol too. Today is not a good day!

ddas · 19/07/2013 14:50

Keeping up with thread but never manage to post!

willyou hope he gets better soon & temp been better today. Feel for them when they get a fever in this heat. Must make them feel so much more grotty.

spotty sorry about the job. Hopefully was good practice for the next one that comes along. Hope you all de-liced now! Dreading it happening to ds but with nursery it's only a matter of time!

utopian I keep waking dd with my cough too. So frustrating when she's fallen asleep on me but I can't hold the cough in!

hales congrats on the job. Must be a relief not to have to think about childcare.

Recently someone made a comment that bugged me when I read it- about bf being more than just about food but that for bottle feeders it was different. Couldn't disagree more. We mixed feed & when I see dh give dd a bottle all cuddled up to him, them looking at each other & her playing with his chin, nose etc they are def bonding & him feeding her is more than just about food. After I bf her I have to give her a formula top up & when she's all snuggled up to me I see she gets comfort from it in the same way as when she's feeding from me. Hope I haven't offended anyone by saying that.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2013 15:39

Poor ds WillYou Sad

Just got back from dd's first sports day Smile had pimms and dd did really well (for a just turned three year old with mobility issues)

Ddas I get what you're saying I think some breastfeeders think they have a better bond because of it Hmm

ISpyPlumPie · 19/07/2013 18:05

Ah Spotty, it was the standard leave in overnight stuff we got for free so you wouldn't have had time for that before Sports Day anyway. Congrats to your DD, sounds like she's done really well.

Poor little thing Willyou. Not fun at any time, but especially not in this heat.

I know what you mean Ddas. In a way, I think DH has missed out a bit with mine being bottle refusers - your description of your DD being fed by her dad is lovely.

Took N to the review clinic this afternoon to check his arm. The doctor thinks it was just a sprain and as he now has a full range of movement back, there would be no benefits in exposing him to an X-ray. He said that as their ligaments are so bendy, it sometimes really doesn't take much for something to get knocked out of place or even for a small fracture to occur (but unlikely this happened to N as he's better so quickly). He probably just did it by putting his arm back at the wrong moment and leaning a bit awkwardly. Scary stuff.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2013 18:08

Well the 15 minute stuff didn't work and we're both still itching Sad ffs
