Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 16:01

DH has all three kids. I am in bed as I am not well. Not been well for ages but he does not notice until I have a meltdown. Even though I told him I could barely breathe.

Just texting friends my new mobile number, so tell my mum, who has the new number anyway, to delete the old one. Mum replies 'who are you?' I say 'Your daughter' she says 'I have never had this number' I say 'you have been texting me on this for weeks' etc etc. she has now put the new number in. Same fucking number. Bloody woman!

TheDetective · 29/06/2013 16:02

VQ The ward staff, and managers might see it that way. However I don't think the hospital management would given the negative way it could be seen if you know what I mean.

I agree with your points on the anaesthetic, and recovery etc. Just wanting to give Izzy another option - but it would need to be arranged ahead of the event, and most likely would need a sideroom.

You know me. It's what I would be likely to do. Grin

O is already up after just 45 minutes for his nap. Unheard of when we are at home! He sleeps for that if we are out, but he was all cosy in his cot. Damn it!

He seems happy enough though. He's listening to Ewan through the baby monitor and actively searching for it Grin. Cruel mummy!

TheDetective · 29/06/2013 16:03

VQ Oh dear... my mum is likely to do similar. She isn't one for technology really Grin.

Glad DH has the children. But not glad that it is because you feel so poorly. :(

Brockle · 29/06/2013 16:14

hope you feel better after some rest vq can DH take control for the weekend?

I second denim dungarees. cute and functional. Y has lots cos I luff them.

clapping is super cute. I think y already knows he gets extra snuzzles when he claps. what about action rhymes: wind the bobbin up, wheels on the bus. waving is nice to do and pat a cake. books are good with first words. I am trying to get Yousef on a signing course but may do that when I am back from hols.

izzy could you try and speak to the ward you will be on to see how they can help. could you mention it to your consultant?

Y just got himself from being on his belly to sitting Grin. very pleased with himself and back in the duplo!

StuntNun · 29/06/2013 16:15

I thought Izzy was planning to mix feed but her family were trying to persuade her to just ff.

Back downstairs. Too many screams and tears so not restful at all.

Stunt that is how I read it. The op adds a little extra interest to the debate though.

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 16:21

I agree with the suggestion to talk it through with consultant. Would it be an option to delay the op further until he is scoffing solids like a little piglet? I know you have delayed it already and want your bits back, plus return to work etc.

Passmethecrisps · 29/06/2013 16:46

Right. Have jumped straight to posting - will go back in a minute to properly read.

Just wanted to put this straight. izzy no, dude! No offence taken. Quite the opposite! I think I also expressed myself badly. What I meant was that I get it. I really do. My point was really that at the end of the day "everyone fed, nobody dead" is a pretty good mantra. But any feeding decisions must be made by you and your DH. Your instincts tell you that you can feed so do. Don't allow anyone - family or HCP push you into anything. Make your decision on what you believe is right. Whether that be formula, BF or mixed.

Does that make sense? Cripes. Absolute last thing I wanted to do was make you feel bad.

TheDetective · 29/06/2013 16:47

Everyone fed, nobody dead. Fucking AWESOME Grin.

You have to market that!!!!!

TheDetective · 29/06/2013 16:48

Video taking FOREVER to upload. 12%... zzzzzzzzzz!

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 17:16

No offence taken here Izzy. None at all. I did however ball my eyes out on reading it, and have done a couple of times since. Nobody puts their baby on prescription formula through choice. Many choose to FF over BF, many have that choice taken away from them for a variety of reasons. I think you feel you still have a choice, and therefore it should be your choice. I can see the POV of your family to some extent, and also the medics. It is important though that the decision is made on what is best for J and I have no doubt that it is this that motivates you x

I am still working through the issues raised by my decision to stop BF. That is why I cried. I wish I was still feeding my beautiful boy. I wish things had been different. I wish the medics had helped at 4 weeks when I said he was a hungry baby when I questioned silent reflux and milk intolerance. I need to work through it so I can move on.

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 17:20

Oh, and my J has learned to clap and will not stop now Smile

Passmethecrisps · 29/06/2013 17:37

Dairy free Wine all round?

Stacks · 29/06/2013 17:42

Can I ask what you guys were advised for allergies? T had a reaction to margarine and mayo - I'm assuming its the dairy and eggs that was the problem.

Do I try giving him some 'pure' egg and milk? Rub it on his skin?

His reaction to the (very little) margarine was red lumps round his mouth with lots of attempts at rubbing/scratching the area. The mayo was the same, though more noticeable including his eye swelling up slightly (where he rubbed it in with his hand), also hiccups. I've noticed before his reflux used to be much worse after I had milk, so I've been on a reduced dairy diet since.

He's on max dose of ranitidine and domperidone and has been for a month or so. Still has reflux though, I can hear him swallowing back down acid often, though he's not often sick. His sleep is terrible, waking every 2 hours usually. Oh, and he has eczema too, though only mild.

I've not seen anyone about the allergies, making an appointment on Monday. However a quick phone chat with his reflux consultant she said for me to keep eating dairy to keep him exposed and maybe build up a tolerance.

Thank you for the welcome, reading all this, and any advice you can maybe give.

Stacks · 29/06/2013 17:49

Izzy - a mum on the Dec thread had her appendix out and antibiotics which were not safe while bf. she managed to pump and dump for a week or so the return to bf. it can be done, even if your supply is effected you can take medication to improve it (domperidone strangely).

Make your decision, and make your wishes known to all. Ask people to respect you and support you or keep quiet. Good luck, you've had a hard time so far, you deserve the support of friends and family.

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 18:13

Hi Stacks. I find it bizarre that you have been told to continue with dairy. We are all being treated so differently. Where is Clinical Governance on this? Surely there is a pathway for managing this.

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 18:14

Or should I say Hey Stacks Grin

TheDetective · 29/06/2013 18:32

Stacks I've been told there is no such thing as intolerance, only allergy, and I should get over it and give my child regular formula. Grin but Angry

Anyway, if you suspect allergy (rather than intolerance) can you push for an allergy test?

I'm about to put some milk on O's back. I just want to see what happens. Blush. I don't think he is allergic though, so there is a difference.

VQ Just :( :( :( My heart goes out to you. I haven't forgotten all the things you said in the antenatal threads. Of all the people for this to happen to. :(

Off to give Mr Mischief his dairy free dinner... :)

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 18:54

Thank you Detective Smile There are much much worse things to happen so I should count my blessings.

I can smell hash outside my front door. Considering I have a heavy cold I am quite alarmed by this.

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 18:56

And I look forward to hearing how your testing goes too. I need to wait for a bit of unbroken skin before I do similar to J though.

His skin is looking better already on the medium strength steroid/aveeno combo though, which is good. He is wheezing dreadfully and was yesterday too.

Stacks the advice you were given to keep having dairy to build up a tolerance is bollocks. If he is intolerant or allergic to dairy then it will be causing him pain as he tries to digest it and you run the risk of causing secondary lactose intolerance if there is any damage to his gut wall. The time when you are supposed to keep giving a problem food is after the intolerance / allergy has resolved. For example where children grow out of a peanut allergy it is recommended to frequently give them peanut butter so that the allergy doesn't recur later in life. Also if you suspect he is allergic to eggs as well then you may need to cut them out of your diet. I have recently found J's skin gets very bad when I eat anything with egg in and I strongly suspect it's a major cause of his sleep issues.

I should add that I am not a medical specialist so the former post is my opinion only. Blush

VQ :o

Hey, Stacks you're not the only Decemberer in here although mine is calendrical Wink they're a very friendly bunch unless you're a HCP watch out for Sweary Wednesday!

R went to a birthday party today, a friend from baby group is one. Glorious weather to play in the garden. Then we went to see my mum so i could sleep and he turned into a right little grotbag! Think i gave her a shock telling her about my friend coming to take him so i can sleep - but the exhaustion should be so obvious to those that profess to know me that she should bloody well offer, i hate asking unless i absolutely have to Angry

ValiumQueen · 29/06/2013 19:12

BP I would not let DH out on his own with all three. He would lose at least one. He was downstairs and I was upstairs for about 20 mins before the screaming was too much.
