This will be the thread where all brooking babies learn to self settle and sleep through the night (the real version, not that 5hr at a time thing).

Bumpiemalumpie · 06/02/2014 18:45

keep, what positions are better??

keepitgoing · 06/02/2014 18:58

they sit upright astride your leg facing you front on. 'the koala'. or you recline and they lie on your front, legs down. but I don't like that one as I feel my boob smothers her Smile

cartoontrickster · 06/02/2014 19:24

thanks bumpie I will have a look when im on a computer.
keep I did wonder if there was a different way I could hold him or something im going to look into it.
the hv suggested I make a diary of his feeds and how he's been after them. so I'm going to do that and take him to clinic on Monday and see what they think.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 06/02/2014 20:08

The straighter you can get their body, the easier the exit route for the wind. Try holding him with your arm across his chest/under his armpit that is furthest away from you, and sort of stretch him upwards so he is bolt upright and pat hard with your other arm, starting at the bottom of his back and working upwards fast and firm

Bumpiemalumpie · 07/02/2014 12:01

Well my little porker is over his birth weight now! after all the worry of him loosing 11% in the first 3 days!! He loves the milk!!!

How is everyone today? x

keepitgoing · 08/02/2014 11:16

well done bumpie and minibump! now you can relax on the feeding front.
I'm going swimming today, leaving s with dh in the cafe... she feeds every 2 hours or so in the day so it's rather restrictive! Smile

Bumpiemalumpie · 08/02/2014 13:25

oh I would love to go swimming or even just out of the house!! We have been cluster feeding every hour or so since 11 last night!!!! aaaarrrgg, the two week spurt you all talked about is bang on time!

keepitgoing · 08/02/2014 17:25

knackering isn't it? enjoy the sofa snuggles Grin

Bumpiemalumpie · 08/02/2014 18:08

How is it I have ended up with a Moses basket, bouncer, baby bean bag and sheep skin but a baby who only sleeps in my bed or on me??!!!!!!!!!

At least we have had a bit of a nap today in between frequent and long feeds!

keepitgoing · 08/02/2014 18:33

Grin Grin
we put the sheepskin in the basket. I think it's much softer to sleep on that the horrid mattresses. and you can move it around so she gets used to sleeping on it

Bumpiemalumpie · 09/02/2014 12:02

Such a great idea! currently testing it out!!

SweetieTime · 09/02/2014 12:18

I bathed both twins on my own this morning. It is usually a 2 man job but I know I have to go it alone sometime. I am going to have to up the bathing frequency as they are only bathed about once a week at the momentBlush Blush
They are now asleep in the cot in the nursery for the first time. I had popped them in there while I went in the shower and they have nodded off so I am leaving them. They usually sleep in a travel cot in the front room or our room at night.

Bumpiemalumpie · 09/02/2014 12:34

Yeay, good morning sweety. Do they like the bath?? Z is getting a little better at it. I don't bath him more than every 4 days though, I don't want to ruin his soft skin. I just use olive oil in the water and no soap/wash at the moment!

SweetieTime · 09/02/2014 13:18

bumpie they both like it in the water but cry scream when I take them out to dry them. F used to really hate it but he isn't so bad now. I think it was getting naked that he didn't like as he was the same when I changed his nappy. I have started to use baby products in the bath water now & a spot of baby shampoo on their hair. I needed to wash F hair after a very dirty nappy & vest ended up with poo in his hair Sad Blush They haven't had any reaction to anything yet. My hv told me to do a spot test on their foot 24 hours before using anything new.

keepitgoing · 09/02/2014 18:16

Grin at poo in hair Grin I think the key after bath is to keep them warm enough

keepitgoing · 09/02/2014 18:18

we do bath every day. use oilatum for dry skin, recommended by the gp. and cradle cap shampoo not that it's working

trix how are things?

bumpie is dh back at work tomorrow? good luck. just getting through the day is task enough.

Bumpiemalumpie · 09/02/2014 21:00

lol, poo in hair! how the hell?!!

Yes, DH is back tomorrow, I am trying not to cry already! It will be fine, it will be fine...

SweetieTime · 09/02/2014 22:03

bumpie it will be fine. we have all been there and survived. just take everything that happens as a victory.

poo in hair was on dh watch. f had a bit of a poonami going on so poo up his back was all over his vest. dh tried to take the vest over his head rather than down his body. so poo from the vest ended up in poor f hair, he didn't seem to mind bless him Grin

SweetieTime · 10/02/2014 18:42

bumpie how have you got on?

we made mobiles at the children centre today. f was very taken with the signing with actions at the end of the group. I was a bit rubbish as I didn't know the actions. so much to learn as a new parent.

Bumpiemalumpie · 10/02/2014 19:13

Hello,

We survived!! I even managed to have a showered because the HV was coming ate lunch, did two loads of washing, strip the beds and make a chilli!! Lo fed a lot but also slept a lot!! oh and I napped!!

I feel empowered but wonder if today was a honeymoon!

cartoontrickster · 10/02/2014 20:38

bumpie I knew you'd be fine? how the feck did you get that lot done?!
for some reason this weekend (still feels like wkend to me as dh was off today) I have been exhausted! have no idea why as dh has done a lot of the feeds so I could rest.
we took N to be weighed he's now 7lb 9! he's been demanding larger feeds more often the last day or so but the health visitor seemed to think it was ok, I didn't think he should be able to manage 6oz yet but he usually does!
sometimes I wish id persisted with the bfing but at the same time its nice to share the feeding duties.
I've got a time table from the children's center, I may give the baby sensory class ago next week. I've made some plans this week so hopefully we will actually make it out when we are supposed to and see other people (and babies) for once. I get nervous around even my friends though with him incase I'm doing something wrong, im sure I'm doing lots of things a bit 'wrong' but I worry that others will see I've still got a bit of confidence building to do.

keepitgoing · 11/02/2014 09:02

sweetie did you mean singing or signing? your baby group sounds fab

well done for yesterday bumpie

trix I found it harder once she was out of the newborn sleep all day phase, but where it still all feels v new, like where you are. I'm glad you have some things lined up. please don't worry about other people. we all parent in different ways. if he's crying most people would just be sympathetic I'd think. well done on the brilliant weight gain. and stop worrying about bf. he's healthy that's all that matters. and at 3 months she's stopped taking expressed milk as refusing the bottle, so I can't ever be away more than about 2hrs in the day, and noone can do the nights, so there are definite benefits to ff!! Smile

second set of jabs today Sad sweetie have you had yours yet? also getting weighed for the first time in a month

GreenOlives · 12/02/2014 14:27

Just had a read to catch up with you all - sounds like you are all doing great! Smile And that includes you too trix! You are being far too hard on yourself, just take one day at a time and before you know it things will start to get easier. It's bloody hard work looking after a baby all day - going out to work is far easier in my opinion! Smile

keepitgoing · 12/02/2014 14:47

I agree with olives - lower your standard!! gosh these babies turn your life upside down...

in other news we have exchanged and move house next week

SweetieTime · 12/02/2014 18:56

Keep I meant singing not signing - doh!! They did a few songs all with actions, such as row, row, row your boat and the grand old duke of york.

Well done on the house completion, the hard work will start when you get in.

Trix as the others say don't be so hard on yourself. You are obviously doing a great job, N is gaining loads of weight and on increased feeds. That is excellent progress. Don't worry what others think, you just do what you do and bugger everyone else.

Bumpie hope the last few days have been as good as Monday. Sounds like Monday went really well.

We have been for our 8 weeks jabs today. DTs screamed at the second jab and have been really sleepy all day. I have just given them some Calpol as they both had a bit of a temperature. E is also off her milk she has only had 40mls at each feed. I am going to try to give her a bit more soon. I am a bit concerned about dehydration. I might even try her with some cooled boiled water. I know I am being a precious first time Mum.
