How's M nom?

Thanks for the fab puzzle ss xx

GlaikitInAPearTree · 26/12/2013 20:40

I need advice please. I'm at my wits end with teeth brushing. I'm terrified B is going to end up under a GA having all his teeth removed.

Tonight, he was screaming and crying. Mum practically accused us of child abuse because he was so upset. That did not help the situation.

He used to be good, now he is just a nightmare.

What can I do? Any advice grateful lye eceived, because I don't know where to start.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 26/12/2013 20:49

No idea, I'm afraid. We're pretty slack with it. I try to make sure it gets done at least once a day. Twice is a bonus. I'm sure DH never does it.

I let him have a chew and then brush them myself. Holding him down occasionally.

It's hit & miss at best.

Good luck, I'm not sure it counts as child abuse!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/12/2013 21:58

How is M Nom? I hope you all got to enjoy Christmas x

I was going to say the same as RU. Ds3 gets to chew/brush his teeth himself then it's our turn to do them. He kicks off about it from time to time, but how I see it is it's better for me to get him in a headlock and brush them (slight exaggaation, but yswim), rather than having them removed by a dentist. It's a mantra I use while he's having a kicking off episode about it. It's not child abuse so don't feel bad, what would be neglect would be to not insist and ensure his teeth are being cared for.

Have his last lot of teeth (for now) come through? If not could they be causing him any discomfort.

Gawd I am knackered. We've hosted two days on the trot. I m not a natural host because I love my own space, so dh has been doing sterling work.

How can it be Friday tomorrow already? It was only Monday the other day surely?!

Right I must go, I need an early night and I need to get stuck into our next book group book (Philomena).

Re toothbrush...take him shopping for a 'special' toothbrush he can choose himself? Maybe even an electric one?

SarniaCherie · 28/12/2013 14:18

We get through toothbrushes at a rate of knots as P chews them to death. I could count on one hand the amount of times I have actually been allowed to brush them. The flashing ones with lights are very popular in our house, DS was the same and grew out of it, no problems with his teeth if that's any consolation Smile

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 28/12/2013 18:51

I'm afraid I'm strict with teeth brushing - it gets done twice a day regardless of how much fuss is created. She's pretty good about it to be honest but I insist on doing it for her before she's allowed to have a go. I've got pretty weak teeth and have had a lot of work done and would like to do as much as possible to avoid the same for DD.

How is M? Hope all is well with the family Nom.

Can't believe Christmas is over. I'm a big Christmas fan at the best of times but have loved having the magic of it all this year with DD. Children definitely make Christmas!

GreenFirefly · 28/12/2013 19:01

We just let M do her own teeth cleaning which mainly involves chewing but she does try to copy us so it's not too bad (and our teeth get cleaned extra times). From what I can see her teeth look ok, but she's terribe at the dentist and won't open her mouth, or at the doctors for that matter. Speaking of which I think we have a dentist appointment for her in January - what fun!

We finally finished opening presents yesterday, after she initially said she didn't like presents she did eventually get into ripping paper off. More Happyland seems to have gone down best.

SarniaCherie · 29/12/2013 20:45

One of P's favourite presents was a musical hairbrush. Not that she brushes her hair with it. She just puts it on continuous play and Boogies around the Living Room. She also likes wearing her batgirl dress with cape big brothers tshirt and running around saving the world with Superboy.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 30/12/2013 23:11

Love the image of Superboy & Batgirl!

Small win of the day: F ate a whole meal with us this evening! With no tantrums and just a bit of persuasion!

(And I cooked it!)

GlaikitInAPearTree · 31/12/2013 06:57

Spider-man toothbrush purchased and appears to be a hit. I am calm about it all now, just the situation at mums made it all worse.

She knows she overstepped the mark with the "child abuse" comment. Although she thinks my head is full of junk "off that MUMSNET" when I s aid that there would be a higher chance of us being done with neglect. Of we didn't brush his teeth. Then she goes and give him another biscuit/chocolate/sweet.

We left earlier than planned

Kittycatcat · 31/12/2013 18:57

Yay to toothbrush but not mum

Wishing you all a fabulous 2014. Here's to 3 / 4 years of us! Wine

SarniaCherie · 01/01/2014 20:11

Wine to you as well Kitty, plus an extra large Wine Wine for Glaikit, who sounds like she needs it. Smile

GlaikitInAPearTree · 01/01/2014 22:04

I needed it Boxing Day! but working tomorrow so I'll leave it in the bottle for the weekend!

Sides off cot take two, new PJs as a bribe and it only took 30 minutes to convince him. Cried for a minute or two and is now sound asleep! Fingers crossed!

Kittycatcat · 02/01/2014 08:13

Yay glaikit. How was the rest of the night?

We are going to do up the boys room for S's birthday in May. Big beds. Poss flexa. New furniture. Get rid of the humphrey's corner range as it's not fit for purpose now. Already looking at themes. Thinking nautical as we have a greeny blue carpet in there.

GlaikitInAPearTree · 05/01/2014 07:20

Three nights in and all is well. He still wakes up at 6 but that's an improvement on 5, so can't complain.

We kept Bs room as plain as possible when we did it before he was born. Cream and red, cream carpet (I clearly went mad whilst pregnant). Since then we added some bits, Cars wall stickers etc. but it's still quite plain.

We had some next vouchers so I bought his new bedding from there. single quilt, pillow and bedding for less that £50. I can't link, but it's the red bedding withs tarts on it.

The problem last time was he kept kicking his quilt off, so this time I have used a single quilt and put it on sideways with half of it under the mattress. So if he kicks it off through the night, he should be able to find to again.I think someone on here suggested that.

Think we are almost ready to tackle potty training. I have bought pants in preparation. A mum at the playgroup recommended the Gina Ford book (I tried to hide my horror), has anyone else used a book? Or should I just wing it? Wet end to wing most things, but they don't tend to have the possibility of poo being smeared on my walls! :o

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 05/01/2014 09:42

We just winged it. I dread to think what Gina has to say about it all!

RegainingUnconsciousness · 05/01/2014 09:44

Wung it here too! It was the summer though. Just took his bottoms off, scattered potties around liberally and stayed home for a fortnight.

He got it, then got much worse, and now is much better.

Good luck!

Kittycatcat · 05/01/2014 10:29

Excellent glaikit and I shall do that with the duvet.

We just had s in pants for the first day with several pairs to hand for accidents, I also took him shopping for them so he helped choose. Day 1 was accidents day two only one. That was it. Still sleeps in nappies.

GreenFirefly · 05/01/2014 15:56

I have the Gina Ford 'potty training in a week' book !ShockBlush One of my colleagues gave it to me along with 3 or 4 packs of pull-ups. I read it a few months ago and it all seemed to be pretty standard advice - potties upstairs and downstairs, straight to pants, no pull ups, be calm about accidents, use reward charts, etc. Maybe she's better with toddlers than babies?
Nursery want to start potty training in preparation for M going up to the pre-school room at Easter - made a start last week but she's not keen to wear anything but nappies and will sit on the potty for all of 10 seconds. She's also unbribable it would seem so I'm a bit Hmm about it all. I'm going to get a potty story book and see if that helps.

How was everyone's new year? - ours was the quietest ever - DH got a cold felt rubbish. I don't think he even had a drink on NYE.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 05/01/2014 16:46

F wouldn't sit on the potty long enough. We went through a stage of letting him watch funny cat videos on YouTube on a phone to get him to stay still long enough! I think it helped Grin

GlaikitFizzog · 06/01/2014 16:01

Daytime naps gone haywire since sides came off the cot. I've just left him to it. He is knackered and grumpy. I think he is still sitting on his bed where I left him, but heis crying.

Anyone else getting violent outbursts? I got a fairly chunky wooden train whacked across the back of my head earlier. Fuck it hurt.

RegainingUnconsciousness · 06/01/2014 16:56

Yep, F hits me when he's tired. I try to catch his hands before he gets there. We also get wailing and dramatic toy flinging. So far a rigid throwing = time out (crying or not) is keeping it fairly manageable. We have had to avoid balls and paper aeroplanes to stick to the No Throwing rule.

GlaikitFizzog · 06/01/2014 17:18

He got up, and stood at the stair gate shouting yooohoooo! Went up, picked him up, gave him a cuddle. Asked if he was sleepy, he said uh huh, I took that as yes, put him in bed again said sleep right and walked out. He is still sleeping! I should probably go make noises upstairs, but I really can't face him waking up grumpy. At least when dh gets home we can tag team!

The train attack was from behind! No warning. I was tiding away the cars because he was playing with trains, only he didn't want me to tidy! See being tidy is a bad thing.

Cyclebump · 06/01/2014 17:23

Hi all, been lurking a bit, but I went back to work in September and life has been somewhat stressful for various reasons.

So glad to see we're not the only ones with potty training issues. H is NOT interested and point blank refuses to wear pants :(

In their news, got a BFP yesterday. Looks like H is getting a sibling, is bizarre...
