The issue with feeding to sleep that I've found is partly that, due to teeth and solids, she doesn't always want to, and just gets increasingly cross at my boobs - and then I end up rocking her to sleep, which takes 15-20 minutes (if not longer, overnight) and hurts my back. Also, although it is definitely the quick/easy solution for overnight, when I'm doing night shifts, dh does not have boobs Grin I did miss my cuddles tonight with her though.

ChasingDaisy · 13/06/2013 21:35

NCSS is the No Cry Sleep Solution I believe

ChasingDaisy · 13/06/2013 21:36

And yep, I reckon that feeding to sleep as a bottle feeder is less restrictive than for boob feeders. I'd say he probably feeds to sleep for 50% of naps/bedtimes.

Clarella · 13/06/2013 21:38

chasing I completely agree. it's a beautiful thing.

then I get worried about when I'm at work in September and at parents eve late etc Sad

Clarella · 13/06/2013 21:42

yes ditto bplp. I got a sharp nipple nip today trying to get him to feed (and sleep cos I needed a rest)! (I deserved it, kept trying to get him to take it when he was clearly not interested. he'd already told me 3 times Grin )

yes no cry sleep solution.

izzybizzybuzzybees · 13/06/2013 21:52

fruit I ordered some dresses from Wallis and I'm keeping one. It's lovely on... At least I think so!

daisychain76 · 13/06/2013 21:56

Hello all, having a good week here. H has done a couple of 4 hour stretches and one out-of-the-blue 8 hour one sleepwise, so I reckon the NCSS works!!

At first I thought it was a bit obvious so, for example, it talks a lot about having a calm bedtime routine and I was convinced we had one, but then I realised that tho we have a fairly strict routine, 3 children getting changed and having a story on one bed is not calm! So we are staggering bedtimes for all 3 and I cannot believe how much calmer it is. The other thing (which I think stunt suggested as well) was having a little comforter for H to hold for nighttime feeds. It really does seem to calm him. Next step is to use the NCSS method for cutting down on feeds (basically feed while frantic sucking, when it slows down, unlatch and put finger on chin, if baby goes mad re-latch for about 40 to 60 seconds, then try again, then repeat. It does warn it's not a quick fix though, so I haven't got the energy at the moment.

Hope your little one gets well soon gt and that J has a good night izzy (on computer tonight and can't seen to find the star that makes things bold).

Pikz · 13/06/2013 22:06

I agree he's crazy, I couldn't run 100 metres. He did a similar run last year but not as many miles, something like 50 miles. A lot of participants do it in relay, so 2 people run 25 each or 4 run 12.5. Well he ran it faster than a lot of the relay teams Shock It makes me tired just thinking about it Grin

horseylady · 13/06/2013 22:17

kyz have to tried mixin fruit and veg? To make it sweeter? He might be more adventurous that way?

Ds had butternut squash, coconut milk and cinnamon seemed to go down well. Was sweet and creamy too! He has a yogurt every day. Plus I found he prefers porridge thicker.

chasing pleased your settled. O will be happier because you're not so stressed.

Good luck to those rtw!! I start in 6 weeks!!! How fast gas it gone?? Craziness!!

Evilwater · 13/06/2013 22:23

Just a quick post,
I'm thankful for N, my family, the quiche and my friends. n has been good again, as went into town and he is starting to hate shopping.

Off for a benfits check tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Clarella · 13/06/2013 22:25

ooo coconut milk sounds yummy! coconut oil supposed to be good too - anti fungal anti bacterial.

meant to say vq we're also on long term low level antibiotics here as well which doesn't/ didn't help our wind situation with the omeprazole. (he's farting as I type) going to start giving probiotics to help. biokult is ok for babies I think.

BigPigLittlePig · 13/06/2013 22:34

Pikz we had our honeymoon here It was vair naice indeed! Would highly recommend it - although it is one of the bigger islands, so if you wanted something super quiet and secluded, it may not be for you. It was wonderful though - beach bungalow opened onto the waves, open air bathroom with jacuzzi, 4 poster bed, champers & fruit hamper. Not jealous at all. Nope.

FatimaLovesBread · 13/06/2013 22:42

Pikz BPLP has recommended the one I was going to recommend.
We were going to go here for our honeymoon, booked it and then changed our mind and went to Mexico instead. So not very helpful as I never found out just how nice it was

PurplePidjin · 13/06/2013 23:10

Happy birthday Kyz Thanks

Dp did 30 miles over the Giant's Causeway in 2011, and was planning to do London to Brighton in May this year. Gonna stick to regular marathons from now on though i think Wink

R has only just gone down, i was at work and he refused to settle for daddy and grandma despite a drive and a walk in the sling! Bloody hope he's knackered enough to sleep through Hmm Today I'm thankful i have vvvdp and a helpful family - i know my ILs would do the same if they were nearer.

I'm going to phone about a job tomorrow 0 hours contract supervising supervised contact visits, one of my youth work bosses suggested it. I'm shattered after working 3 evenings this week though so will probably say something stupid.

StuntNun · 13/06/2013 23:19

Seriously try not to worry Kyz. My DS1 and DS2 are both food refusers and getting stressed about it can actually make it a lot worse. My J sometimes wolfs food down and other times won't even open his mouth. He can't tell me he doesn't like it or he feels sick or he fancies brown mush instead of orange mush or it's too sour or he's not hungry or he's too distracted by the dog. All he can tell me is yes I want to eat that or no I don't. Having learned the hard way with my first two I will not be doing 'here comes the big aeroplane' or trying to sneak food in when he's not expecting it. I just keep offering a selection of mashed food and finger food and let him decide what he wants. Penelope Leach's advice is to look at young children's diets over the week rather than the day. So yesterday J ate porridge and bolognese, today he ate strawberries and rice cakes. Yes it's important to be aware of good nutrition but it's not vital that they get a balanced diet on a daily basis at this age. Please try not to fret, he isn't going to be only eating fromage frais age 5! When my DS1 was 18 months he would only eat peas and fromage frais. Now he likes to try new things, he may not like them but he has become quite adventurous sine he turned 10.

Thanks for sharing my r related enthusiasm all Smile.

Pass - those milk feed times are simillar to g's.

I usually give breakfast at 8ish, lunch at 12 to 12.30ish and dinner at 5.30ish. Sometimes though the general chaos means that doesn't quite work. O often end up skipping his breakfast if I'm in a real hurry to get up, but then even when he does have breakfast he usually just pulls a face and smears it everywhere so I don't think he's missing much. His best meal us usually the evening one.

Chasing - so glad you and o are settling well. You are a superstar.

Kyz - please stop beating yourself up so. It is ok for him to just eat yoghurts for now - as long as you keep offering other stuff too even though the wastage is soul destroying. Really - don't get worked up. And don't fret on milk volumes either - just trust him for a while. He will dirt himself out.

Today's tip for the future is that while it is not hard at all to make chocolate crispy cakes for a school fête, and it isn't even that hard to make chocolate crispy cakes with most toddlers except perhaps mine you have to be a crazy fool to try and make chocolate crispy cakes for a school fête with a toddler. Especially one that wants to put her hands in thr mixture but then doesn't want the mixture on her hands. And even more especially with a six month old looking on from the bumbo increasingly infuriated that he isn't allowed to join in. What was I thinking?

Bryzoan · 14/06/2013 00:26

So many typos. But mainly kyz - he will sort himself out not dirt himself out. Big hugs. It is hard. And believe it or not you are doing really well. X

LuisGarcia · 14/06/2013 00:41

Bry I've been trying and failing to make parsnip cakes with a toddler and bub for several days now. Aspirationally, I'm great. Really, I'm rubbish.

And your r enthusiasm is wonderful.

StuntNun · 14/06/2013 02:05

So skipping the dream feed does make a difference after all. Yawn.

Morning all! Trundling down the A1 now, Cornwall bound. Would be an hour further south by now, but DH declared a cheeseburger emergency and insisted we went somewhat out of our way to the 24hour McDonald's Shock He is gross. Had an arduous 24 hours getting everything ready (alone) so I haven't caught up yet with the Fred. Shall read now as I will be taking over the driving in four hours or so and then probably won't get a chance to read or post until the Cat-Squibbles go to sleep tonight Smile
