We went to the pub for a sunny pint (of shandy) but didn't go until 6pm (when I normally start winding madam down for bed). Gave DD a feed there and she drifted off on the way home but have just given her a quick bath and am on a late final feed now. Hope I haven't lost the magical effect over the last few days for the sake of a selfish drink Shock We shall know in a few hours...

LaLaLeni · 30/06/2013 20:34

Oh god flooded kitchen? I'd be melting down big time.

Df has been here after a more disturbed night than usual, just too hot to bloody sleep! Today wasn't much better, a simple leisurely walk to a local event in the park for an hour and I was pouring with sweat. I also appear to be getting period number 2... Just on the day we go away. Exactly as it did last time weirdly.

I feel beyond shattered after DF's booming and relentless talking, DS couldn't nap through the endless overstimulation and so was grumpy and didn't want food.

I had one gin and tonic in the afternoon and found myself getting on a rant about why DF didn't rescue me from a violent ex! Jebus.

Time to relax Shock

SoYo · 30/06/2013 20:40

Just a relaxed day at home here and I actually managed to cook a lovely dinner and have a long, hot bath. That is a successful Sunday! Bedtime is less successful however, madam had a tired strop at 7.10 so we started the ritual and she went down only to wake 5mins later and have the worlds biggest meltdown for DH, she had completely lost it so he tried for 10mins then handed her to me when she magically stopped crying I actually felt quite bad for him, don't want to put him off helping but has lost all hint of sleepiness and now DH as had to go to a meeting (on a bloody Sunday, WTF).

plonko · 30/06/2013 21:42

Stormy thankfully DS doesn't have totally neglectful parents - I've ordered him some books off Amazon today.

Worse a flooded kitchen! Uh oh. I love a bit of crisis management though. One of my highlights at work was when our driver called to say the sliding door had fallen clean off our battered van. I pootled off in my teeny hatchback and managed to fit £2000 worth of champers in it, call roadside assistance and deliver the goods to a very understanding customer. I love thinking on my feet, but doubt I'd manage to cope well with a flooded kitchen and a baby! Glad your day improved though, a bit of sunshine does wonders for the mind.

We had a lovely walk into town. Dp seems to be a convert to wearing DS in the sling. I wonder if its anything to do with the admiring ladies fawning over him everywhere we go.

Leni I find my patience for entertaining family and friends to wear thin rather quickly these days. Hope you get a good evening. G&T sounds just the thing.

SoYo any further luck with bedtime?

worsestershiresauce · 30/06/2013 22:23

Leni, I am weirdly not phased by house disasters, probably because we have had so many of them since moving here. Old country houses love naive ex-Londoners and use us for their own warped entertainment. Or so it seems. Today's flood is minor, compared to the time part of the roof caved in on me in the middle of the night when DH was away... or even the time the police knocked the door at 2 am to say we had intruders. DH was away that time too. In fact come to think of it he has an uncanny ability to miss nearly all the fun as a bee swarm down the chimney was another little treat I faced alone. Today however he was handily on-hand to help fire (or even water) fight and the damage is not too bad. The loo took the worst of it and will probably need to be re-plastered, but the kitchen is largely unscathed.

Plonko disaster management can be fun can't it, especially with a baby. The tiddler loved every minute, and supervised the clean up from the safety of her bouncy chair. Added bonus the excitement wore her out. Tonight's settle was the easiest ever in the history of mini-worse's life. Bottle downed. Mouth clamped shut. Eyes closed. Asleep. Result!

For all those who grabbed a sneaky drink, good on you it is entirely possible I may have had a mouthful of pimms at the garden's thing we went to...

Good luck for the rest of the evening SoYo, and wishing you a quiet undisturbed night Leni

SoYo · 01/07/2013 01:36

After multiple fails and some more screaming she went down at around 9.15 and is up now for first feed. I've got very stingy eyes and hate any time before 2am as it usually adds a whole extra feed into the mix.

pudtat · 01/07/2013 04:57

Well, minipud had a big dream feed at 10.20, was reswaddled at 1.15 and has just woken up hungry. Happy with the extra sleep this entails but will be happier when supply regulates to cope with new routine!

Must come up with our plan for move out of Moses basket. Think will have to find a way to fit cot in as not sure I'm ready to leave him just yet. However, one froggy kick against the bottom and his face ends up planted against the top now which unsurprisingly tends to wake him up.

Hope your night wasn't too disturbed Soyo.

And you're a calmer woman than I Worse. Have had exactly what you describe on more than one occasion in more than one house, but never found it fun!

Ps - stormy, thanks for bouncer rec. grandma has purchased and now arrived as apparently I adored mine. Reckon head control will be up to it in a week or so. Quite ridiculously excited. Grin

SoYo · 01/07/2013 05:08

I'll now actually be quite glad if this is an extra feed rather than the last one! She's smiling and cooing at me in between sucks so I'm not holding out much hope but I desperately need another hour or so!

I'm off to a postnatal boot camp type exercise class this afternoon, terrifying!!! I'm so unfit, I can't begin to imagine the pain it's going to put me in.

worsestershiresauce · 01/07/2013 08:06

Oh I'm jealous SoYo. Let me know what they hit you with. My trainer (when I see him, which is rarely now the tiddler has to be factored in) won't let me do anything. It's v annoying. What I want to do is go for a 10km run. What he'll let me do is an hour of gently pansying around. What I'm actually capable of doing is (depressingly) nearer his idea of suitable than mine. Huge sigh.....

Small person has just woken, which goes down in the book as a pretty good night.

Enjoy the sunshine again today everyone. Any exciting plans for getting out and about?

vjhist85 · 01/07/2013 08:42

Morning all. Relatively good night here (compared to recent nights anyway!) up for the first time at 3.40, then 5.30 but brought her in with me, and didn't wake til 8! That hasn't happened for a long time, and consequently I feel a bit weird and headachy this morning!

Our fun day involves... 2 trips to the drs. One for me and the dreaded smear this morning, one for her to check out her permanently gammy eye this afternoon. Then back tomorrow for 4 month jabs, will be pleased to get those bad boys out of the way til she's a year.

Exam marking season is upon us. Somehow I've got to find a way to mark 100 gcse questions by tomorrow, and another 800 by the final deadline of next Wednesday. Not quite sure how I'm going to manage this...

StormyBrid · 01/07/2013 08:55

Nothing fun planned here today. A trip to the shops for birthday cards for the man and my dad, maybe a bath if I'm feeling decadent. Jabs on Wednesday though, and I need to book a smear too. Gotta love the internal scaffolding and the expanding dildo of torture.

StormyBrid · 01/07/2013 08:58

As for night wakings, we had 10.45, 2, and 6 - not bad at all. Normally such an early feed means we end up with three night feeds (6 was breakfast even though she went back down until 8). And she's discovered toes!

StormyBrid · 01/07/2013 11:50

Everyone's quiet this morning. Hope it's because you're all having baby fun, not meltdowns, poonamis and disasters.

We've just had the health visitor round with the scales. Twelve pounds six and a half ounces! We're back up to the twenty fifth centile and doing grand. Am ever so pleased, though vaguely wondering if she'll ever make it to a whole stone.

vjhist85 · 01/07/2013 12:25

I'm here stormy! Not out having a lovely time, but instead being a terrible mother by sticking dd in front of Wimbledon while I get on with marking gcses. Haven't even got time to take her upstairs to nap so have just let the gentle commentary and my bouncing lull her off in her bouncy chair.

Interesting conversation at the childrens centre whilst trying to get advice on whether I'll get her back on the boob. Clearly this hv hasn't had the NHS memo re: only promoting breastfeeding as she basically said (not in as many words) 'probably nothing will work now, I'd give up if I were you'. Not sure if to be grumpy or relieved by that!

If its any consolation, we've just hit 9th centile, not at 12lb yet, and the other day I met a baby who weighed more at birth than dd did at 15 weeks... How much formula is dd having now stormy? I can't get my head around what I'm meant to be doing, she has 5oz at a time and gobbles it all down, should I be giving more? Has them approx every 3-3.5 hrs, but with occasional boob feed as well and sometimes both if she'll let me.

Also ff ladies, when do you make your bottles up? Trying to get into a bit of a routine.

And how do you manage warm bottles when you're out and about?

Gah this is so bloody complicated! Roll on weaning!

StormyBrid · 01/07/2013 12:36

There's a couple from my antenatal group, their daughter's a couple of days older than mine. A few ounces heavier at birth, four pounds heavier at six weeks. I didn't ask her weight last time I bumped into them, it's a bit depressing.

If the bottle's being emptied every time offer larger bottles. Or maybe larger ones at alternate feeds to start with. We have just five bottles, so we sterilise and make milk twice a day. And we're naughty, we microwave them. Haven't solved the milk on the move issue but it's only ten weeks to weaning then it'll be less of an issue. For now, we go out just after one feed and ate home in time for the next one. Unless visiting my dad, then we take a bottle from the fridge and put it in my dad's when we get there.

I hear shouting... So much for my peaceful cig in the sunshine!

StormyBrid · 01/07/2013 12:39

Oh, and DD is usually on four ounces at the moment. Averaging twenty eight a day over the past couple of weeks.

Sorry for all the multiple posts; I need a better memory with this phone app thing!

Rainbowbabyhope · 01/07/2013 12:46

Hi all! Sounds like an eventful few days for us all! We went to a wedding 70 miles away on saturday. As DD hates the car we were dreading it a bit but turned out to be fine. DH and I both wore our slings and passed DD between us whenever she needed a nap. We did bedtime two hours later and DD did not notice! So all in all a good day.

In respect of sleeping arrangements I think DD will be cosleeping (in bedside cot or our bed as appropriate) till she is old enough to want to go in her own big girl bed. Both DH and I are happy with that because we all sleep so much better together all snuggled up (with appropriate safety precautions taken in respect of DD when she in our bed). No real reason here to put her into her own room until we are all ready. Not right for everyone but works for us!

DD has also started rolling from front to back! Took me completely by suprise as she she is generally a watcher and not a particularly physical baby. Amazing stuff!

worsestershiresauce · 01/07/2013 13:26

I'm around - and no disasters... yet... although there is always time...

VJ have you thought about using the ready mixed cartons for when you are out and about? They are 200ml so enough for one feed. If you shove one up your jumper for a while you can even by-pass the need to heat I may possibly have travelled much of the way to Devon sitting on milk cartons Hmm

Rainbow I bet dd really enjoyed the wedding. Mini-worse loves outings and sleeps like a log afterwards. Definite win-win. We also co-slept a lot in the early days, and I confess I miss it now. I snuck her back in the other morning for a snack and a cuddle.... and awwwww. It's so special isn't it Smile?

Way to go on the rolling!!! Nearly had one here but she got a bit distracted by the light on the ceiling and gave up half way. No commitment that lass Wink

Off out to enjoy the sunshine again. It's most odd, all this sun.

plonko · 01/07/2013 13:31

I just went to my parents office to get my old manager to sign ds's passport forms. While there my dad got on the warehouse scales and weighed DS. 18 pounds. EIGHT. TEEN. He's a long bugger, the waistbands on hos clothes are fine but we're down to 3 sleepsuits that fit lengthways now. And his feet as beginning to hang over the end of the car seat.
I didn't realise he was quite so heavy. He's gone from the 50th centile to the 91st, and I'm a bit worried! Stormy, Vj I think we should all swap.

DS has been having 7 ounces 5 times a day for the pas ten weeks. He sometimes finishes them all, and sometimes gives up halfway. I always offer 7, and tend to make them up last thing at night. If we're going out for more than an hour I put a bottle or two in a cool bag with some freezer blocks, and stop for a coffee so we can feed. Just ask for a jug of hot water to warm it up.

Vj your hv sounds a treat. Wow. Though perhaps she was trying to avoid prolonging the agony of trying and getting nowhere? Good luck with your marking.

We've got the last round of jabs on Wednesday. Quite looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet

somethingbeginningwith · 01/07/2013 13:51

rainbow we had our first roll on Saturday. From back to front the carried on to the back again. Very exciting times! Can't leave him alone now even for a few seconds!

I haven't had DS weighed for a couple of weeks but considering he was nearly 10lb at birth, I'm guessing he'll be in the late teens too! We'll find out on Wednesday!

Lazy day here. Bit of lunch with DM and now snuggling down on the sofa Smile the work I need to do can wait til later.

Eigmum · 01/07/2013 13:57

Hey stormy, we went to the health visitors too! 6.3kg or 13 pounds 9 ounces in old money! Been told not to stress as she is "tracking beautifully the 60 percentile" and is 64cm long so quite tall! Hv was funny as I haven't seen her at all before and I mentioned my want to move to ff feeding as going back to work and she was full of good ideas, support and encouragement that I had done great and dd would come to know harm etc. which I know but was nice to hear!

We are off to a wedding on Friday. Dd cane with me to get my hair coloured this am, work up for a feed with my foils on then coo'd at everyone. Going for perfect baby marks today as now asleep in buggy while I have a crepe and read all your news in a Wimbledon coffee shop!

worsestershiresauce · 01/07/2013 14:18

Eig I have this wonderful image of you as one of those uber groomed London yummy mummys with huge designer sunnys and an it bag Grin.

For anyone who might be wondering I look like a person who keeps dogs....

SoYo · 01/07/2013 16:13

Me too Wors, I'm also pretty sure that even if I didn't have DD with me you could pick me out as 'knackered mummy'. Eig sounds much more glam!

Bootcamp was brutal! I haven't exercised since getting pregnant & even before then I was more swimming & Pilates than circuits. It was jogging up & down hills with pram, up & down steps without, lunges, squats, burpees, triceps dips, sit ups, push ups & plank. I'm going to be in agony tomorrow & very nearly vomited. I had to treat myself to a coffee & breakfast & sit outside a cafe for 2hrs to recover from the horrors!

Since then I've popped to the supermarket & walked the dog & now DD & I are snuggling down on the sofa for some feeding & Wimbledon.

plonko · 01/07/2013 17:42

Oh my SoYo was that pramercise? If so I need to get involved! I thought it was a bunch of yummy mummies poncing about in a park, I didn't know it involved sweating! Must look into it, I'd like to shift this jelly belly!

Eig you sound very glamorous. I love crepes. And cafes. And food.

SoYo · 01/07/2013 18:00

It was indeed Plonko, and I can promise there was nothing yummy about me by the time we'd finished! I decided it was about time to claim my body back as mine!
