So - dolbear, you said you were starting to get broody? Not me - I took my pram and a load of baby stuff to a local charity shop the other day (did get a bit sad when I handed over the pram though - the woman in the shop didn't help when she said "think of all those walks you did with that!"). Hope you are all doing ok.

Was it wallingford you went to MrsD? How long a drive is that from yours?

Chuffed · 01/06/2006 10:13

sorry for not clarifying you have hit the nail on the head, keeps legs warm without having so many layers to pull down. I will use them under skirts and with boots so that dd only has undies (eventually) to pull down and they will just look like stockings.
I have got a pair that ds will be OK with if he needs them. Haven't used them yet, they were just recommended to me from another couple of mums.

MrsDoolittle · 01/06/2006 10:22

Lunavix - I went to Wantage. They have a fantasticly big birth pool.
Wallingford is lovely too Smile

Chuffed · 05/06/2006 10:36

well we are officially, dry. dd's day nappies have been packed away for when ds fits them, have now gone almost a week with maybe 2 poo accidents (very minor). She was in a time out today and dh didn't put her potty in her room and she yelled that she needed to wee, and she had her pants round her ankles and was pulling out a 'care mat' to wee wee in so she didn't get it on the carpet. Grin
It was really sad packing the naps away, felt like my little girl is really a little girl now.
My nappy bin certainly fills up a lot slower now, only have to wash every second day now.

LucyJones · 05/06/2006 11:56

Well done Chuffed Smile That's so sweet of her when she was on time out!! We moved ds from his cot to a proper bed this weekend and so far, touch wood, no problems. He's got a bed rail and hasn't figured out that he can just shuffle down the bed and get out but I'm sure he will soon. I've just put him down for his nap so we'll see how that goes. I can see that it might be the end of the afternoon nap once he realises he can get out of the bed!!

MrsDoolittle · 05/06/2006 13:08

We're dry too Smile
I have to agree with you Chuffed, I felt a strange sadness as I put her in her close fitting in shorts today. No well padded bum anymore and I have quite a few nappies that I wouldn't put ds in, like pink ones! She has done so well now and seems to be growing up so quickly.
LucyJones - how long have you got to go now?

LucyJones · 05/06/2006 18:46

Hi MrsD - congrats on the ptty training too Smile Due date is 12th September so about 3 months to go!!

DD doesn't always nap now - the other day she just lay down in our tent in the garden and murmered to herself for a while. DS was reading and I got to sit on the patio and read too (heaven!)

Well done MrsD and Chuffed (and your dds!). I'm impressed you've managed the potty-training already given you've both got babies too.

Ds is still having an afternoon nap - straight after his lunch for anything btw 1 and 2 hours. He goes to bed at about 7pm and wakes up at about 7pm - long may it continue!! I'm always lookign forard to when he's in bed Blush and was thinking tonight that in a few months I'll still have the new baby up - eek!!

MrsDoolittle · 06/06/2006 19:01

I think that's why HD Smile Two sets of cloth nappies is an awful lot of washing!!! Dh and I wonder when we are going to fit our own washing in sometimes

tracyk · 06/06/2006 20:54

well ds pee'd in my friends summerhouse, on her decking, in his sandals in her hall and poo'd on her decking - all within 3 hours!

Chuffed · 07/06/2006 04:04

tracy lets just say I used bribery to start, what we call wine gums that are like really soft fruit jubes for a wee and a malteser for a poo. We are still on a star chart but bribery was good.
dd quite often not having a nap, am about to try to settle her for an hour or so now (3pm). She can't quite make it through though and goes into what we call meltdown just after dinner if she doesn't have a nap.
Agree about the washing MrsD but can't imagine having 2 in disposables there would be so much rubbish.
LJ very excited for you. My only recommendation would be to get a battery powered swing, fab for things like dinner time so the baby is safely swinging watching you and good for reflux as upright for those of us who got that second time around.

tracyk · 07/06/2006 09:52

so chuffed, did you time the sitting on toilet for pee and then offer sweetie? or did she do a wee for a sweetie whether it was time or not? iykwim. Can they produce a poo for a reward? as ds can sometimes have 1 poo a day or sometimes 5 a day! how do you time it to get them on the toilet?

MrsDoolittle · 07/06/2006 10:23

Chuffed have you looked at the NEW Bumgenius nappies. Very expensive at the moment, but they are great with ds.
I have a similar thing with dd, she needs a nap although quite often she doesn't think she does.

Dottydot · 07/06/2006 16:36

Aarrggghhh - about an hour ago ds2 decided he wanted to have a go at using the toilet and is now in the front room WITH UNDERPANTS ON!!! Not my idea - I've been begging him to put a nappy on, but he seems to have decided it's time...! He's not actually done anything on the toilet yet (he's also adamant he won't use the potty - only the toilet like his brother), so dp and I are terrified he's going to destroy the settee!

Sigh. It's so different from ds1, who was 3 1/2 and then never had any accidents because he was so old!

I know it's wicked but I'm secretly hoping he'll be persuaded to put a nappy on in a bit - we're not ready for this..!

Dottydot · 07/06/2006 17:05

Well as predicted, it all went horribly wrong..! Ds2 came to me a few minutes ago saying "I've got water on my toe!". No idea that he'd just done a wee..! I know it's pathetic but I used it as an excuse to get a nappy back on him - he might be a chatterbox but he's got no idea what his bottom's doing! Smile

hewlettsdaughter · 07/06/2006 17:23

Well at least now you know Dot Grin.

MrsD I can see your motivation now!

dd3 has been nappyless quite a bit playing in the garden. I got out the potty just in case she wanted it. she has been having great fun filling it with water from a bucket and then washing her hands in it. I think we have a way to go here before we even start trying....

but she's dry at night, in her nappy. which bodes well for the night time training.

Dottydot · 07/06/2006 22:12

I didn't want to try it!! I think ds2 was very impressed with himself today because he and ds1 had their hair cut sat next to each other at the barbers - very cute - and then went to nursery to have their photo taken together. So he was thinking he was a v. big boy like his brother, and wanted to go on the toilet..! Good start I suppose - if only he'd realised he'd done a wee, instead of being surprised at the water on his toe! Grin

Chuffed · 08/06/2006 11:03

tracy we used rewards for going, she didn't go on demand, put potty in the lounge, shut all the doors to carpeted areas and prayed for the couch and told her that if she did a wee wee in the potty when she needed to go she would get the wine gum and if she did a poo she would get a malteser. A month or so ago she was a bit like your ds2 dot she was just suddenly wet. She is very aware of what wees and poos are and we have read the 'where's your potty book' and it just worked.

Not dry at night though :(, few leaks in day naps too but she is very happy to lie on her mat just in case.

hunkermunker · 08/06/2006 11:12

ROFL at water on his toe! How funny!

DS1 not ready I don't think - says "mess" in mournful tones when I change his nappy and bids me "find wee-wees!" when he's just weed in his nappy, but I get "noooooooooooo" when I ask if he wants to sit on the potty. But he's getting more interested in it all and always wants to see me change DS2 (will say "poo!" gleefully, even if the nappy's only wet and shakes his head and says "mess" in aforementioned mournful tones if it's dirty!).

Have a horrible feeling we have to put him in a bed v soon though - DS2 needs the cot as he's outgrowing the swinging crib. That'll be fun... Am going to get him some Thomas bedding or somesuch horror though and see how he goes.

Right, DS2 squeaks - must go and nork him Grin Not doing solids till he can feed himself again - am enjoying just bfeeding and not having to muck about with food - he's waking more at night now (four times last night - ohhh, I'm tired!) but does settle quite quickly.

hewlettsdaughter · 08/06/2006 20:57

Good to hear from you hunkermunker. It's good your ds can settle again after waking - I wish all of you with small ones peaceful nights soon!

Although I am not intensively potty-training dd, she does seem quite interested in pants ("pants!" - she can't say it without an exclamation mark being there). Not sure she's quite ready to grow up yet though (she is still bf).

OP posts:
fennel · 08/06/2006 21:05

HD did you bf your ds at this age or have you continued longer with dd?

we have packed the cot up and it's on its way to the tip. end of babyhood. though as DP's vasectomy, done over a year ago, still hasn't worked, we just have to hope it really is the end of babies for us Wink

Chuffed · 09/06/2006 04:58

Well we've gone backwards have had a few accidents and dd sometimes totally refuses to sit on potty or toilet when asked.
Am trying really hard to remain totally calm and not pull nappies back out. Angry
Was talking to some others at playcentre and the same thing has happened to them so I don't feel quite so alone.
