Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

Happy birthday Birdies! Dan only started sitting unsupported last week, he's very wobbly though. Still mainly flails like a fish on his tummy while going backwards.

Pascha · 17/07/2013 16:26

well unsupported by 8 months

Pascha · 17/07/2013 16:27

Oh crap. That should say "Babies should sit...

Tugstonia · 17/07/2013 17:09

Happy birthday Birdies! Hope you're having a lovely day :)

Drove back from the seaside Monday night thinking it would be cooler and with the aircon blasting and poor little DD was still roasting hot and sweaty and screamed the whole way home :( It was hideous. It's a good 8 degrees hotter in London. Wish I'd stayed there a bit longer! Having said that the beach is no place for a baby.

Bunty My dd sounds like yours - will now only sleep in bed with me. Poor DP's back on the junior mattress on the floor... DD's room is stupidly hot and airless even with the window open so don't blame her for not wanting to go in her cot. Cot won't fit in our little room. DP ordered a fan on Amazon because everywhere locally has sold out but won't be delivered for a week Hmm.

BLW experts out there: I started DD on purees a couple of weeks ago (just one little pot a day) and all going well, she gobbles it up, but would like to move on to BLW, mostly because I imagine it'll be easier. She's not 6 months til the end of July but can sit up unsupported, so do you think it's ok for me to start now or should I wait til she's 6 months?

I've been feeling really quite bleak the last couple of weeks - just low and flat and lacking enthusiasm or smiles for anything (except DD). My mum asked me if it could be PND but I don't know - would I know about it if I had it? I don't know that I feel depressed per se, just a bit meh.

Sorry for v long and moany post and hope everyone's ok!

Tugstonia · 17/07/2013 17:13

Btw, I got one of these and think it's really helped DD with her sitting up

Birdies · 17/07/2013 17:57

Thanks everyone! And thanks for link pascha

tugs from what I've read, pnd is more common after 4 months so it could well be. Do you have a decent health visitor you could mention it to?

Birdies · 17/07/2013 17:58

Thanks for link tugs. Funnily enough I actually have that but used it for DD1 and haven't got it out again for X. You've inspired me to find it and give it a go!

Meringue33 · 17/07/2013 19:39

Sorry to hear that Tugs, sounds like defo worth a trip to GP

Weaning = serious mess! Fed up with clearing it all up twice a day Hmm

Currently trying to stop him eat the baby monitor :O

glorious · 17/07/2013 20:03

Happy birthday birdies Wine

Sorry you're not feeling quite yourself tugs . It could be PND or it could perhaps be the lack of sleep and down time. You could have a go at the screening questionnaire HVs use for PND here: psychology-tools.com/epds/. Obviously you should talk to a professional whatever the questionnaire says if you feel you need to but it could be a starting point?

On BLW I'm definitely not an expert as I haven't even started but from memory according to the book the signs your baby is ready are:

  • they can sit well in highchair or lap or unsupported
  • no tongue thrust reflex
  • able to pick up food and get it to their mouth.
lollipoppi · 18/07/2013 06:33

Happy belated birthday birdies!!
Hope you celebrated with a glass of vino or 2 Smile

DD isn't sitting at all she just falls forward, but lots of rolling and getting up on hands an knees.

DD is also an early waker, normally around 6 but this morning was 5.30am Hmm
Feel like I can't complain too much as to be fair she does sleep at night, now if I could just get ds1 to stay in bed and not get up 4-5 times a night then all would be well Smile

Tugs sorry to hear you've been feeling low, i agree that sleepless nights and no down time for yourself is possible, but if your unsure pop to your HV or GP Thanks

Hope all the babies are coping with this heat, DD is totally pissed off with it now!

BuntyCollocks · 18/07/2013 09:01

Happy belated birthday, birdies!

Definitely need to do something about this child's sleep. Was up for 2 hours last night, finally got her in her cot at 2, and then she was up again at 4 Hmm and in our bed.

She was such a good sleeper! daytime naps are fab. She did sleep better for the first portion of the night in our room - ie actually stayed asleep from 7:30 - midnight, but getting her back in after that first wakening is not happening. She used to be an up, feed, back down baby. I could cope with that. This is breaking me.

Lora1982 · 18/07/2013 09:48

Happy belated birthday.

Todays started rubbish. Its the works summer party and dp has gone, I was invited but its in knebworth so its too far to go cos im still boob feeding. :( boden parties are epic, free food, drink on tap alllllll day and night. Absolutly jealous. To make it worse I had to drop dp off at work and see everyone in their fancy dress :( all I have is two bottles of ginger beer. Tut.

Wuxiapian · 18/07/2013 15:43

Happy belated birthday, birdies! Sounds like you had a lovey one. Thanks for the congrats, also - everyone else, too!

Yep. 24 week old baby, pregnancy (and the crap-feelingness it entails) and constant ridiculous heat are not the best mix.

I've had to cull some of the baby groups and outdoor venturing altogether :(

Lostbobbles · 18/07/2013 16:01

Happy belated Birthday Birdies, good to hear you were spoilt on the present front WinkThanks

Re weaning, I have moved away from blw and doing a mix of spoon and finger foods. I just can't handle the gagging, it really freaks me out and i have this uncontrollable urge to whack her on the back i know im officially a freak then spend the whole meal on edge watching every chew and swallow. Trying my best to persevere on finger foods and try to offer something at every meal.

Tugs, sorry your feeling down, I would speak to the gp.

Instead of packing, I am getting my nails done Grin

Lora1982 · 18/07/2013 16:59

Wooo first non pushed aided roll over

lollipoppi · 18/07/2013 18:08

Wux sending my sympathies, that must be tough!
Being pregnant is a good excuse for lots of ice cream though Wink

Got DD weighed today she is 15.9 which means she has only put on 1lb in 6 weeks, thought it would have been more than that now were weaning!

AppleCrumples · 18/07/2013 21:17

Hey all melting here in the heat with my cranky hot dcs

lolli is dd on the move? That slowed all my older dcs weight down. Also milk is high calorie but if she is having less milk more solids i don't think its the same nunber of calories so it can slow them down. < i think anyway am no expert>. What did hv say?

Ivy not been weighed for months but she is clearly growing and happy so not bothered. Although i did weigh myself and then agsin.with Ivy and think.about 20lb (she is massive though as were all the rest at the same age)

lost i.do that too. She always has some toast or fruit/veg to chomp on.but i mash everything else down to spoon feed her.

lora woo on the rolling.

wux you are amazing! I.could not do what you are doing. Hope yoy are ok in this heat.

birdies happy birthday!

bunty could it be the heat? Ivy goes down ok in the evening but is now up at 5 for her normal.feed but refuses to settle down again. I try to ignore her as she is gen quite happy (just awake) but she is so noisy chattering to herself and her snuggly.

She is now grinding her teeth together at meal times Angry the sound hurts my teeth! Its horrible

she is sitting well now but still hasn't rolled all the way over!

newbie6 · 18/07/2013 21:20

Hi all,

Well we had the 6mth check today and all is fine :) he was 17lb 2 which explains my sore back but apparently he is just under 50th percentile for his weight!

Weaning is going ok but sticking to purée at the moment as too scared he'll choke on anything else. HV said purée fine for now until he can sit unsupported so hopefully won't be long now. Am going on a baby first aid course on Sat so looking forward to it and think it will make me feel more confident if god forbid he did choke......I'm such a worry wart!!

Hope everyone is doing okay and our wee ones are coping okay with the heat.

X

lollipoppi · 18/07/2013 21:48

Apple, she is rolling everywhere, so maybe thats something to do with it.
she has always been a little eater, even now she only takes 3-5oz per feed.

HV said she is fine and right on track
It's just so alien to me as DS1 was a reet bonker!!!

Eeeekkk on the teeth grinding! It's just given me shivers just thinking about it!!

happyhow · 19/07/2013 06:48

OMG!!!! B has just slept all night!!! Woohoo!!!! He was up about 3 playing but he barely made a sound so I left him and he's just woken up. I hope this continues.... (My boob is very achy though!)

He was a star on the drive back up from my mum's yesterday too.

This weekend is "Operation Get The House In Order". and we actually need to do it this time

OP posts:
lollipoppi · 19/07/2013 07:17

Yay!!! Well done B!!

Another 5.30am wake up, and up 4 times with DS1 - matchsticks please!

Lora1982 · 19/07/2013 08:35

Congratz happy :-D

Tugstonia · 19/07/2013 10:05

Thanks all for your support Thanks. Have made an appt with GP. Xx

Wuxiapian · 19/07/2013 11:13

:) happyhow! Long may it continue!

Bubs has slept through the last 2 nights after a few heat-induced horrendous ones. Long may that continue, too!

It's only just sinking in that I'll be doing the sleepless nights again in 7 months time. Yikes!

Pascha · 20/07/2013 18:11

More teeth, more tears and, because of early waking in this heat and crappy naps, early bedtime. He's dropping from tiredness at 5.30pm, just can't cope. Now he's upstairs with DH and I can hear him screaming and screaming Sad. He's been dosed, gelled, boobed, everything.

I have a stinking headache too.
