Jan 2013 Part 4: More noises, movements and more sleep?! Hmmmm

New thread!

I leave B during the night until he's making persistent noise - I don't usually wake up til then anyway! He's always wide awake; he's never done the dream feed thing. I tickle under his neck or blow gently on his face to keep him awake...

He's still in with us but will be going in his own room once his blackout blind arrives and we've given it a good Hoover. Probably in the next week or so.

B is still mostly in 0-3 clothes Shock. I've started putting him in 3-6 vests but his other things mostly look far too big on him still (he's 19weeks). Sainsburys stuff is bigger though, as is Asda.

Hubby has taken B out for a long walk so that I can get some of this marking done. Bailey seemed to think that 3 15min naps today was acceptable so he's been doing my head in and I've gotten absolutely nothing done. He's just point blank refused to sleep today.

bunty this is prob a daft question but do you have a fan? I have one on all night blowing cool air near cot. And she's in just a sleepsuit. And windows all open obv. If anything she's slept better, but that's prob cos mummy finally got rid of the swaddle Blush

Ah Ewan, bless him!

AppleCrumples · 14/07/2013 12:20

Oh the heat! Ivy slept in just a nappy last night.

Took dcs to park early today to avoid the heat now watching finding nemo.

Hope everyone having a good day :)

Lora1982 · 14/07/2013 12:59

Ooh last night I stayed at my mums (shes away n I was out at a 30th and cheaper taxis to my mums) apparently he behaved as good as gold. Well anyway it was his first night sleeping in a different room to me. He didnt give a crap :-D I checked he was breathing at half 1 then half 4. The prunes have made his poo smell vile. Can I just check what others are producing?? :-D I was expecting sloppy but brown poo but hes providing us with lumpy poos im hoping hes not dehydrated he doesnt seem bothered about drinking any more than he does.

Collapsed on the sofa with my hangover dp has buggered off back to bed which is slowly getting on my nerves

Lora1982 · 14/07/2013 18:54

He got up... at 6.

newtothenet · 14/07/2013 19:24

Hi all, another boiling hot night again here so we've got the fan on again. It makes a lovely breeze but I'm not sure the room is any cooler. How is everyone else coping? I don't like it when the gro-egg shows a frowny face!

I popped over the the development forum to discuss DD's sleep issues. I thought mumsnetters were supposed to have a bad reputation but everyone was so supportive and helpful and I feel much better about everything.

Lora1982 · 14/07/2013 19:55

I think the reputation is only because everyone says their honest opinion, so if theres a post where the op is clearly daft and deluded they will be told.

Twat features went back to bed at half 7!!! So I've had to power on through the day on my own with a hangover :-( clearly his is obviously more severe than mine. ate all the angel delight in revenge

Boob feeders are your babies feeding less in this heat? He doesnt seem to want anything and ive had to give him bottles to make sure he has liquid. A ll woman said its like us how we eat less on hot days, which I can understand but I don't want him to be liquidless

AppleCrumples · 14/07/2013 20:32

If anything Ivy is having more though tbf i worry in the heat and am probably offering more and she is a gannet :) Her feeds are shorter though so i think its more a drink than food IYSWIM. Have also been offering her sippy cup more (possibly explains this afternoons poosplosion)

Its currently seveal degrees too hot and with no ens in sight am now panicking about school hols. I don't think i can cope with all 4 in this heat for long!

happyhow · 14/07/2013 20:47

B has def fed less today. He's not really wanted his solids much either. I have been slightly more forgiving with the night feeds as I think he's just trying to catch up.

Off to my mum's tomo for a few days so it's been a quick turnaround for me and the washing machine today!

Dan probably fed once every 90 minutes for about 30secs each time today, but has refused everything foodwise except some banana at breakfast. I'm not bothered at all, he's taking what he wants and needs and he's healthy and happy. Thats all that matters.

Its not really that hot here though, we reached about 22° today.

octanegirl · 14/07/2013 21:26

Is anyone online? I've put LO in his big cot for the first time and he's rolled onto his tummy and sleeping face down. I'm now totally panicking! He couldn't roll over in the bedside cot as it was too narrow. Is it ok? Should I put him back in tiny cot?
I'm feeling especially anxious as my poor sister had a miscarriage today at 7 weeks. I feel so sad for her.

Meringue33 · 14/07/2013 21:32

Hi Octane
That is exactly what my LO did the first time I put him in his cot about three weeks ago and what he has been happily doing ever since. He seems to prefer it that way. I couldn't sleep a wink the first three nights but after that have just had to get on with it, no choice!
Can he roll from front to back? Is his face turned so he has a clear airway? Do you have a good baby monitor?

octanegirl · 14/07/2013 21:41

Meringue I've only ever seen him roll front to back once. He's a pro at rolling back to front though. I've got an angel care sensor monitor but I'm still freaking out! He's got his face to the side right now but was face down earlier.

lollipoppi · 14/07/2013 22:41

New - maybe don't visit the AIBU section Grin

Octane - DD gets into all kinds of funny positions, but I normally find her on her front, after a few sleepless nights of turning her back I gave up and just let her be.
Sorry to hear your sisters sad news Hmm

newtothenet · 14/07/2013 23:10

lora - I'm a boob feeder too and we're definitely having less daytime feeds. I expected her to be more thirsty in this heat so keep trying to force feed her but she's not having it! She definitely makes up for it at night though!

Pascha · 15/07/2013 09:31

Dan is happy to roll about all over the place on the floor but he's never tried it in his cot. He likes to sleep on his back.

New of course we have a bad reputation - nest of vipers an' all that Wink. It just disguises the fact that we're all the same normal people you meet everyday in real life. Don't be afraid of the different boards. Go where you like on MN, post where you like, get stuck in to a juicy debate and have fun. Don't take anything personally and give as good as you get.

Thats what I do and I'm still standing...

(well, sitting)

CreepyCrawly · 15/07/2013 10:15

As soon as I put Nancy in her cot she rolls over. I went and bought a (lovely!) rug yesterday and she managed a double roll. Trying to keep her on the rug, and the dog off it is going to be a full time job I think!

I think the reputation this site has is totally wrong too. I've never laughed as much at a forum as I have here, and the support is wonderful.

Fingers crossed its a bit cooler here today. I looked out the window and saw grey sky and had a little sigh of relief!

CreepyCrawly · 15/07/2013 10:28

How horrible for your sister octane

Birdies · 15/07/2013 10:47

Your poor sister octane Re sleeping on his front - you really only have two choices - either let him as otherwise you'd spend all night turning him back over. Or, if you'd rather wait til he's more confident at rolling, could you put him back in his bedside cot but in his own room? I think that's what I would do anyway. X is in her pram cot (she preferred it to bednest!) and she can't roll in it as too narrow. I'm planning to move her to cot in her own room soon but will use pram again in there if needed. Although she's confident at front to back rolling, not the other way round. Sorry that's a bit of an essay isn't it!

Actually, I kind of feel sorry for them as I think sleeping on front must be so much more comfy. Does he sleep well on his back though?

octanegirl · 15/07/2013 12:09

Well he survived sleeping on his front so I guess I need to just calm down! I put him on his back and he goes to sleep but at some stage flips over. He was perfectly happy this morning, wide awake and propped up on his hands.

Birdies · 15/07/2013 12:31

The risk is also meant to be much less after 6 months. Don't know if that's to do with the rolling though.

creepy it feels even hotter here today than yesterday. I'm just staying indoors which is a bit sad - it's just way too hot for me!

mrsbugsywugsy · 15/07/2013 12:46

sorry about your sister octane.

dd is feeding a lot at the moment. she is having boob every couple of hours and solids twice a day. lora when I first started solids dd was doing little hard poos which made her uncomfortable. I gave her lots and lots of fruit, and lots of drinks of water, and now they are just a bit thicker than her old bf poos with identifiable bits of food so I can tell what she has actually eaten

mrsbugsywugsy · 15/07/2013 12:51

since dd will now only sleep in or bed Hmm, this weekend's diy project has been to take one side off her crib and attach it to our bed to see whether she will sleep there. if not dp will have to sleep in the crib instead Grin

Lora1982 · 15/07/2013 13:47

Ta bugsy that sounds about right then.

I agree on the rolling if and when he decides to do it I'll worry less when he sleeps like that.... or force him to sleep in the pram till he's four. Didnt we discuss something similar a while back and someone said to roll up something so they cant roll over?

newbie6 · 15/07/2013 21:11

Hi octane

Just a thought but could you put rolled up towels or something down the side of your cot so your LO can't roll over? Sounds like everything will be fine though but as I say, was just an idea. We have the angel monitor to and I love it, so reassuring! Sorry to hear about your sister.

X

octanegirl · 15/07/2013 21:36

I've had a thought. We could adapt farrowing crates for babies so they can't roll over or turn around when they sleep. As Loras said till they are at least 4. Or 14 ;)
